Iphone 6 water damage flickering screen

My iphone 6 vibrated off the edge of my counter when someone called me and into the dogs water dish on the ground below. It sat in the water for 45 minutes, until I noticed it. It was still turned on so I shut down all the apps and i turned it off immediately. Wiped down and took it to my nearest apple store where they took the phone apart and said it was covered in liquid and tried to sell me a new iphone6 for $299. I came home and let it sit in a bag of rice for 48 hours. I just took it out of the rice now and turned it on. To my joy everything seemed to be working as usual but the screen seemed to have a haze and cloudy appearance. Up pops my home screen and it is very hard to see the screen and it is flickering and flashing. I freaked out and turned the phone off and put it right back in the rice. Does anyone have any helpful tips on what I could possibly do if I let the phone sit in the rice for another 48 hours and I turn the phone on, and it still is flickering screen? Is the screen able to be fixed? Everything seemed to be working beautifully except that flashing, hazy screen. Any help/tips are GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance

Forty-eight hours is not really enough time to let it dry properly. Turning it own might have done more damage. It should be noted that, even if you leave the phone in rice for a week, there's no guarantee that it will ever work properly again. At this point, your best bet is to go back and get the out-of-warranty replacement.

  • IPhone 5 - Water Damage and Screen Damage

I dropped my iPhone 5 December 2013, managed to deal with it upto the end of January when I went to a party and accidentally knocked it into a drunken friends sick. I dried phone best I could as I had no rice nearby so just was a towel I used. The phone turned on and off okay however was tacky with buttons on the screen, it was bad calibration. The phone worked for 2 weeks then started having bad calibration issues again and then I got lines down the screen multicoloured so by this I'm assuming that it's water damaged. The screen is completely smashed and chipped on the rear corner and front corner. I'm just wondering if anyone knows a price it would be for a replacement at the Genius Bar (Liverpool, UK). All I get on emails, chat and phone is we'll look when you come in and after inspection the most it can be is £209 which I'm hoping I don't have to pay. I'm needing an approximate price not the maximum they charge for any inspection. Does anyone know the criteria for it to ever be £209 or anybody had this experience before? I have no idea what to take in with me money wise and no idea what they will have to do. Also regarding the SIM card, can that get damaged in anyway? And will my contract company (O2) send me a new one for free of charge if it's rusty broke or whatever?
My iPhone 5 is in warranty, I dropped it last year and paid £170 to get a replacement but apparently prices have changed. My warranty runs out the end of April 2014/beginning of June 2014.
    Thank you

"If Apple allows me to purchase a phone for the replacement fee, would they allow me to purchase the iphone 5 at the replacement fee price? "
    No.
"Or would I only be allowed to purchase the iphone 4s because it was the model I am replacing?"
    Yes.

    That was a mistake...
Find a competent repair shop. If you had not opened the phone, you could have gotten it replaced by Apple for $149. They won't touch it now.

  • Iphone water damaged and needs reset

I need to restore old iPhone before i send back to assurion.  It says i need to access the icloud to turn off "find my phone app." i can't access old phone through screen as it is water damaged.  is there a work around? i can plug into my mac and i have new phone.  they say they will charge me $300 if phone is not reset.

$149 US, adjust for your location. If the iPhone has been opened
(how else do you know about the broken connection?), Apple
may refuse to deal with you - but you lose nothing to try.

  • Information on iPhone Water Damage?

I have had my iPhone 3G for about 8 months now, and today my 2 year old brother dropped the phone in a glass of water when I wasn't looking. I'm not sure how long it was sitting there, but about an inch or so of the lower part of the iPhone (where the USB connector, mic, and speaker are located) was completely submerged. I am now getting a message saying that the iPhone is plugged into some device, and I am unable to navigate back to the home screen anymore. After I found that it wasn't functioning properly anymore, I immediately powered it off, and am leaving it for a couple of days in hopes that it will return to normal functionality once it has dried completely.
My question here is, if this results in permanent water damage, what can I do to replace my iPhone? It was a gift to me, and I certainly can't afford to buy a new one for $500 or whatever the price is now. Are there any options for me to replace the iPhone outside of going and buying a new one? I'm really freaking out about this, I cant go without a phone for too long, so any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

  • IPhone5 water damage and screen smash

Yesterday I was at a theme park and I dropped my iphone5 and it was smashed all over the screen (i know i'm an idiot) but this happens frequently now so i just make do with it and eventually get a new one. Then I went on a water ride and my iphone5 somehow  became water damaged. It just says to connect to itunes but when I do it says to restore the iphone5. When I try to restore it an error occours. Is there any way I can make my iphone work again? Or do I just get a replacement? And also, I havent synced my iphone since about two weeks ago, and i've taken quite a lot of photos, I'm guessing they will be wiped from my phone as well? I'm pretty sure the speaker on my phone is broke but I just want my phone for messages, photos etc

Make an appointment at the genius bar and get it replaced. $229. You're going to lose anything that wasn't already backed up.

  • Iphone water damage without coming in contact with water or moisture

Hello, I am long time apple fan/user. I bought an iphone 3 months ago. I really love this phone. I took very good care of the phone carrying it around like a baby making sure nothing happened to it. I upgraded to 3.0 and then a day later I upgraded to the new version of facebook. The update was taking a long time to load so I decided to cut the phone off and restart it. Once I cut the phone off, it would only come on and show the apple logo and cut back off. I took the phone to my local apple store. The guy at the store took the phone in back and return saying, the phone had water damage and the only option I had was to purchase a new phone.
At no time have I dropped this phone in water, left in bathroom during a shower, carried in my pocket (I have case for belt), left in extreme temperatures, transport from cold/cool climate to hot, etc. How is it that I have water damage?
After posting this dilemma on FB, I received several responses saying they had the same diagnosis for their iphone. Is there something that can be done to better equip these phones for the elements? Can a plastic cover be design to cover the port for the charger and insides ( like other phones have that snap into port)? Please give feedback. Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks,

Well I have a short story to tell. I had the exact problem with my 3G. I tried to download the latest 3.0 update and it did the Sync just fine but when it went to download the update the phone froze up and also locked up the computer. We tried to RESTORE the phone but all I ever got was a USB indicator and an iTunes logo on the screen. Finally I called Apple Support and they said to send in the phone or take it to an Apple Store to get it Restored. I choose to take it 40 miles to the Store and immediately they got out their little magnifier and looked in the ports and told me that the phone had been dropped in water---This phone has never been wet ! ---We asked for the manager and he had the same lame story that we had ruined the phone by getting it wet and the phone needed replaced but not under warranty as the warranty did not cover water damage. When I informed him that it was not water damaged and the problem occurred during a program update he basically called me a lier and said everybody tells them the same story. I asked the manager to at least try to reset the phone as I felt there was no water damage and he refused as he said it would ruin their computer. We called Apple support again and spent 2 hours on the phone as she had me remove and re-install iTunes and other settings to no avail and she told me to take the phone to an Apple store. A couple days later my girlfriend took the phone to an Apple store and sweet talked the Genius into RESTORING the phone without looking at the moisture indicators [both were pink] The phone restored perfectly and she was out the door in 15 minutes with a perfect working phone. We now are on record that we have an operational phone regardless of what color the moisture indicators are. This phone was a replacement for the original new one as it crapped out early after purchase and it probably had pink indicators when we got it. This is a great marketing scheme on Apples part to get current customers to purchase new phones and then use these same [faulty]phones for replacements for under warranty phones. This issue is rampid on the web it would behoove Apple to change their policy. At least they should install the indicators in a place that a sweat droplet will not trigger the indicators like other phones where they are in the battery compartment. I wasted way too much time on this issue and have placed an edict at my company not to purchase iphones anymore. i love the phone but do not have to live with Apples policy.

  • Water damage on screen

I spilled water on the screen and the LCD is damaged and I don't know how to fix it. Will it dry on its own?
    iBook G4

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Accidental damages are not covered by AppleCare, so you have to pay for the repair.
Liquid can damage the whole MacBook, and in the case of the MacBook Pro with Retina display, where everything is soldered except the flash storage, it's even worse. The repair will be expensive, so you may consider the option of getting a new MacBook instead of repairing the one you have now, because after the repair, if it can be repaired, it will be like a new MacBook. • Water damaged iPad; screen came on, charged 2%, now all is black

My daughter poured water into the plastic wrapping my brand new iPad came with (surprise! she can reach the water dispenser on the refridgerator now). I let it sit in a bag of rice for 7 days. The charging icon came on after about 10 minutes, then nothing. Black screen. Kept it plugged in anyway. Nothing. Took it into Apple, the guy checked for arcing, and saw none of that (he didn't open it, just used a flashlight to peer inside. It's now two weeks later. I have an appointment to take it in to Apple tonight but thought I'd try again. Plugged it into my PC at work, and got the charging icon. Let it sit 20 minutes. Got a 2% charge and the screen came on, just like new! Pressed the home button again 5 minutes later, nothing. Black screen. Has this happened to anyone else and come out with a happy ending? Any advice? This is my last ditch attempt before I shell out the $299 for a replacement. Thanks for any help!! This iPad was a Christmas gift from my mom, so I need to have it working or a new iPad by the time she comes over tonight . She bought it brand new Christmas 2013, so it's the latest model. I think it's an Air.

    Sounds like it's damaged.

  • IPhone Water Damage, Is the phone gone forever?

Hi, earlier today I had dropped my iphone 4 into the toilet (yes, stupid mistake)! However, I quickly took it out, and i am sure it was not in there for more than 3 seconds. Next, i quickly removed the case and began drying it with a towel. Then I removed the sim card, and tried turning off the phone. However, i was so nervous that i ended up resting the phone 3 times (the phone was able to turn on, but there appeared to be no sound coming out of it when i entered my security pass code even tho the phone was NOT on silent)  before i finally turned it off. I then got a hair dryer and resorted to drying the phone for about 30secs-1min. I then got a vacuum and tried to "suck" and water or moister that was left. Finally, i got a bowl of rice and fully submerged my iphone 4 in it. My question is how long should i leave it in rice? Are the damages temperary due to the water? Is it reverssible?  I really cant afford to replace it for a new iphone, help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Give it a few days to a week in a well ventilated place. I'm not a fan of the rice technique, but many are. Then try it. Unfortunately, trying to get it started when wet was not a good idea. At least you didn't try to charge it when moist.
    Good luck.

  • How to turn on an iphone 4s without power button and also got water damage

how to turn on an iphone 4s without power button and also got water damage?

Actually the rice is not very effective, you really want to use a desiccant. There are products out there that work really well, the silica gel is a much better alternative to rice. See our blog post about what to do next time this happens:

Yes, out of warranty replacement for the iPhone 4 is $149.

If my Iphone screen is cracked but it also has water damage will it be covered under applecare since i need the screen replaced?

Neither of those is covered by the standard one-year warranty.
If you purchased AppleCare+, you may be able to get it replaced for $79+ tax; otherwise, you will most likely be paying $269+ tax to replace the phone.

    hi
i have an iphone 4s and has not been a year yet no water damage but there is a white cloudy screen around the edges and will start going crazy with different colors and all someone please gel what is wrong with it?

I switched the usb port and did the whole recovery holding of the buttons ect... And it worked, the computer detected the phone and i was able to click restore. However, the computer says preparing iphone for restore and it is still doing the restarting thing where the apple fades away and then comes back like it is restarting. If i can somehow get past this i will be able to go back to factory settings and resolve my problem, but this is where i am stuck.
