IPhone 6P on iOS8.1.2 text notifications while on a call hangs the screen sensor
This is an iPhone 6 Plus that had iOS 8.1.1 when I got it, upgraded to iOS 8.1.2 the next day.
If I'm on a call, phone to my ear so screen is off, and a notification chimes in the screen lights up while it's still to my ear, the display sometimes gets laggy or hangs completely while other times acting normal but won't go off, and it never times out to go back to responding to the sensor until I'm done with the call and the other person disconnects. When this happens, sometimes the display is active while the phone is still to my ear, randomly pressing stuff, and other times it gets really laggy or totally unresponsive while staying "lit up".
Besides being frustrating in a dark room, I basically lose control of the phone until the call is ended which is really frustrating when someone else calls while I'm on the phone or I need to look something up for the person I'm talking to and I can't switch to speaker mode, etc, etc.
I'm sure I could probably turn off notifications but that's not the point.
If I could have it not do the notifications while I'm on a call as a work-around for this problem, that would be helpful for now.
I really don't want to reset and start all over with all of my settings if it can be avoided.
Thoughts, suggestions, solutions?
My problem is that it's extremely impractical to silence my phone everytime I get a call. Especially since I have an otterbox and my switch is covered by a sturdy flap.
As advanced as the iPhone is, you'd think it would have a basic feature like this. Especially after their sixth model.

There are two places where vibrations can be set.
One is the Settings > Sounds
The other area is Settings > Notifications
If you have an app set to Alert, it may have a vibration set for it.

I tried the press the circle button and the top button but the screen only turned white?
Try the following:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order -

Go to Settings>Notifications and turn alerts/sounds on for the app(s) in question. Not all apps have all options.

No, sounds like when you dropped it an cracked the screen it may have also damaged the logic board or the repair person damaged a cable.

You must have had find my iPhone on, or it was locked by your phone carrier.
Call your our cell carrier first.
then log on to a computer to iCloud to erase your iPhone.
NOW... You will be able to setup with a backup. -

Once electronics get wet, the best thing to do is turn it off and put it in silica gels packs or uncooked rice for a minimum of 72hrs. Only then should the user attempt to power the device on. -

My iphone stopped working. I can only see a thing white line on the screen and the screen does not respond at all although turning the phone on vibrate makes it vibrate. The screen has been cracked for some time but has worked fine until today.

The iPhone has a proximity sensor located on the top of the phone near the earphone speaker that is supposed to automatically turn off the screen when it is close to your face while on a call, to prevent that very thing from happening. If your phone isn't doing that, try cleaning your screen. Also, if you put a screen protector on your phone made for a different model it may lack the cut-out that is supposed to keep it from blocking the sensor. Try removing your screen protector to see if that helps. If it does, get another screen protector.
