Iphone about light sensor

Iphone light sensor design mobile phone has some defects, such as mobile phone but from bright place back to when the shadows light sensor can't make timely adjust, cause when in the shade is still bright screen, or from dark turn to bright light environment when might not make timely adjust. Hope engineering and technical personnel can through the future software update or hardware transformations make the light sensor become more downy, timely.

I noticed that too. Very cool, particularly when you're on the phone and need to keep entering in numbers rather than get a real live person on the other end.

As i'm sitting in my room with the light off..I was looking at the screen of my iPhone 5 and noticed a very dim red glow coming from the light sensor but it only comes on when the screen is on..Is this something I should worry about?

    Nope.

  • Will iPhone 4s cases restrict new light sensors?

While looking for cases for the new iPhone 4s, i was wondering if it would be best to purchase a bumper case and not one that covers the back.
When looking at the keynote, the new sensor was described as "Backside illuminated".  It looked like the sensor was located in the back of the iPhone and would be blocked by all cases that cover the back.  Has anyone else noticed this, or seen any comments on it?

I don't think the ambient light sensor has anything to do with the camera. The ambient light sensor is in the same place on the iPhone 4S as the iPhone 4.  It is on the front, right above the ear receiver.  My only concern about cases is the camera lens looks bigger on the iPhone 4S.

In the same location as on the white model, just to the left of the front facing camera.

I recently had my cracked iPhone 4 screen fixed, the lady who did it told me my light sensor was broken.. How can I get a new one installed?? i noticed there was something wrong when I talk on the phone it will mute, hold or speaker the calls. It's very annoying how can I fix the light sensor

Was your cracked screen fixed by an Authorized Apple Service Provider?  I may be wrong, but I didn't think they fixed such things.
Regardless of who fixed it, and whether it was an authorized repair or not, I recommend bringing it back to the agency that fixed it in the first place.  But note if the repairing agency is not authorized by Apple, you may not want to spend much more money on repairs there for this unit.

I just bought a new iPhone 5 today and the Ambient light sensor is not working. What can i do?

Ambient light sensors are not always perfect in their function. To test, go into darkened room, with screen OFF, Locked, tap Home button. Look at screen it should be normal for use in darkened room, turn on bright lights, the screen should brighten to help compensate. If your iPhone does not do this, then Restore iPhone with current iTunes on your computer. See if better. If still problem, make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

  • Iphone 6 proximity sensor not working any more

    Dear apple users,
A few weeks ago i dropped my iphone 6 and my screen broke, so I decided to fix it. I ordered a screen online and changed it. Every thing seemed to be fine until i tried to call somebody, because my screen didn't turn off when calling, yet my light sensor did work. So I took it apart again and again and again but it didn't change anything. I went online and read on some forum that you had to tape it off in order to keep light from getting into the sensor. So i tried but also this didn't work. I really don't know what to do now, does anyone know how to fix this problem? By the way, I should just have brought it to apple, but I thought this would be a lot mor expensive and take a lot more time. But after all I should have never done this
    With kind regards,
    Joost Bun

Sorry, but as you already wrote, you should have never done this, and Apple will not service the phone anymore after you have opened the phone.
Your only chance would be finding a 3rd party repair service that can fix that for you. And we can't help you either, due to the Terms of Use in these discussions.
    Good Luck anyway.

  • IPhone Liquid Submersion Sensor and Dead Pixels

Today I went down to my carrier HQ. (Singtel, Singapore).
I went to spoke to the person at the iPhone servicing counter.
He told me that my iPhone Liquid Submersion Sensor has been triggered and it's now out of warranty.
And my purpose is there, to have my iPhone exchange as my home button is getting unresponsive at times.
And he told me that this is under Apple policy. When I purchase the phone, the salesperson didn't even told me about the policy and I wasn't aware of that.
So the main point is my iPhone Liquid Submersion Sensor and I didn't even drop it into any liquid, I don't know why but it's just unfair for me as an end user.
Question here, will playing apps like Ocarina activate the iPhone LSS? Only my bottom LSS is triggered, the top one isn't.
Also to recall, at the point when I'm buying my iPhone 3G last year, out of the box there is already a dead pixel and the person refuse to change a new set for me.
I'm in need of an iPhone urgently, anybody can tell me what to do?

Ocarina could trigger the water sensor since you could spit into the dock connector while blowing into the mic.

  • Where is the light sensor located?

I looked in the Users Guide, but the diagram does not show where the light sensor is located.
    Does anyone know?
    Thanks

It seems to be left of the ear speaker slit. If you are worried about covering it with your case, my case leaves about a 3/16th of an inch space from the left end of the opening and it works just fine.

  • Faulty Ambient Light Sensor?

I have Auto-Brightness On, yet I have to manually reduce the Brightness at night. If I cover the Ambiant Light Sensor, shouldn't I be able to notice some reduction in brightness? I've never noticed any change in brightness at all, unless I've manually adjusted it.

If you are concerned about it, yes.   I find that the brightness changes are so subtle that they are very hard to notice.  If you find yourself in an extreme dark situation you will likely need to adjust it manually anyway.

  • Iphone 4 light stays on

my iphone 4 light stays on even if the phone is switched off...... what do i do?

I've now got the same problem. I was just using my phone then after finishing what I was doing noticed my iphone camera light was on. Tried everything. Went through all the settings. Turning the phone off. A restore, and still not fixed.
The light stayed on all through the restore!
I've also found that the camera does indeed turn off if I was to slightly bend the phone.
The light being on also makes the phone overheat. I got a message on the phone soon after this happened that the iphone was overheating...
If there is a fix for this without having to go to an apple store i'd like to hear it as the closest apple store is about 3 hours away...
Would the telco (Vodafone AU) replace the phone if I take it in to them?

  • Light sensor not working during calls

My iPhone 4 has been working fine since May, until recently...when my light sensor wasn`t working really well, when i am on a phone call, the screen doesn`t turn off even though i place the phone just beside my ears and this is very annoying as my ears will touch the loud speaker button and i have to turn it off frequently during a call...but the sensor works fine for the screen brightness as for auto brightness, i have only dropped my phone once, never been jailbroken before..i have also restored my phone, reset all settings in the phone but none of them helped, is there any alternative way to solve this annoying problem?

The sensor you refer to is a proximity sensor (not a light sensor) and is not sensitive to light.  It is sensitive to an object close by, i.e. your ear, face or a case.  This can be tested by playing a voicemail and placing your finger to the left of the earpice... the screen should go dark.
Try removing your case.  If still a problem, it will likely be covered under warranty.

  • The light sensor works weird...

    here is my situation:
    - every workday morning when I turn on macbook in my office, screen brightness and keyboard brightness are set to max by default after booting
    - every night when I turn on macbook in my bedroom (lights is off so the room is dark), screen brightness set to lower than half and no keyboard brightness...
I really don't understand why it does so... is there anything wrong with my light sensor?

this is what i came in conclusion with my macbook's light sensor
well first of all id ont know about the light keyboard since i dont have one, but about your brightness in your screen i think it works this way:
When you are in a bright enviroment your sensor reacts and puts the brightness to max power, because the screen is really reflective, this happens so that even though your screen reflects alot, you can still see it.
When you are in a dark enviroment your sensor reacts and puts the brightness to the minimum so that your eyes dont take the damage of watching a bright light in a dark place.
i think it works that way, hope that helped

  • M640 ambient light sensor not working

The ambient light sensor on my M640-BT2N23 laptop is apparently not functioning, if it exists at all (the laptop's specs say it's there.) Whether I'm looking at the screen in a dark room or a brightly-lit room, the display intensity does not seem to change at all to compensate.
When I check Windows 7's Location and Other Sensors control panel, it says that no sensors are installed.
    1) Does my computer include the ambient light sensor?
    2) If so, is there a way to activate it?
    3) If so, is it worth the effort?
    Michael

In the iPad, open the Settings app and drag the brightness slider to 50%.  While 'Brightness and Wallpaper' still open, go to a bright source of light (window, lamp, etc.) and see if it changes; now go to a dark room and see if the button starts to slide to the left (very slowly; really, now it's very slow).  Put the iPad to sleep (Still on brightness and wallpaper) and then wake it up again and see if the position of the slidebar changes.  Remember that now the ALS behavior has changed and now it works like in OS X.
If you don't see any changes, then it would be time to consider a restore of the iOS via iTunes:

    Hope it helps.
Again, sorry about the grammar hehe
