IPhone activation server temporarily unavailable

I'm trying to install iPhone OS 3.0, it downloaded just fine but when it came time to install the install failed because "The iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable". I have been retrying the install process constantly but have had no luck, is anyone else experiencing this issue? Any tips on how to accomplish a successful install?

This is a server-side issue, so there really isn't anything you can do besides waiting. Currently, there are a lot of people attempting to perform the activation which requires a 'green light' from an Apple server, and this server seems to not meet the demand. It's a shame that Apple did not prepare for the OS 3.0 launch properly - they knew there will be a lot of iPhone customers trying to upgrade right away and still failed to set aside enough computing power to perform activations.

As you are running a beta you must be a developer. You will have to go to the Developer forums for help.
I suspect there is nothing wrong with the activation server; more likely you hacked the phone to get the beta. Now you are stuck.

IPhone activation server temporarily unavailable SOLUTION!

A lot of people, including me, were having this problem. I found a solution that wored for me! Here's what I did...
First, I pressed OK on the message about the iPhone activation server.
Second, I disconected my Internet Connection.
Third, I pressed Update on iTunes and it told me I needed Internet.
Fourth, I reconnected and pressed Update and it worked!

That's almost always because the phone was hacked to unlock it.
You can not get help for a hacked or jailbroken phone here.

Call AppleCare, give them the model and serial number of your iPhone and find out which cell carrier your iPhone is now locked to. Contact that cell carrier and see what their unlock policy is and whether you qualify.

My Iphone 5 updated to 7.0.2 and now it wants me to activate phone.
I tried to unlock, but it gave me the following message: The activation server is temporarily unavailable.
I tried to restore from itunes and it wouldnt let me as it said find phone had to be deactivated.

I received a notice this morining about a new iOS and I OK'd it for downloading. Now my phone is "inoperable" and the activation server is "temporarily unavailable" -- for the last 4 hours. Is this just too many people trying to activate new software at the same time or is something else going on?

Mosk likely because your phone was hacked to unlocking it. Updating has rendered it unable to activate.

4 possible causes of that message:
1] Activation server is actually down. Very rare occurrence, but it does happen.
When it does occur, down time is very short. Solution - try again.
2] Your firewall or antivirus are blocking the connection. Solution - temporarily
deactivate your firewall or antivirus until the update completes.
3] Computer being used for the activation has previously been used to jailbreak
an iOS device. Solution - use a computer that has not been used to jailbreak an
iOs device.
4] Your iPhone is jailbroken. Google may provide some direction. Be advised the jailbreak
may have made changes that will prevent the iPhone from successfully activating.

There are 3 possible causes for this message:
1] activation server is down. Very rare occurrence but does happen.

In scenario 1], retry the activation. If the server were down, it would be up in short order.

Generally, that means the phone has been jailbroken (hacked). You can try restoring it as new using iTunes. Beyond that, there's really nothing we can advise as jailbroken phones can't be supported on these forums.

If your phone was EVER hacked to unlock it, when you updated the hack was removed and it's now re-locked to its original carrier and will work only with a SIM card from that carrier..

Your antivirus or firewall may be blocking access to Apple's activation server at gs.apple.com.
If you have ever used your computer to hack or jailbreak any iOS device at any time in the past your network database on your computer is corrupted. Open the hosts file and delete any lines that contain gs.apple.com.

Windows: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
It is a hidden file, so you will have to set your file explorer to show hidden files.

This message usually indicates that your phone has been hacked/modified or jailbroken.
Was your phone ever locked to a different phone carrier? IF it was how did you unlock it?

That's usully symptomatic of a phone that was jailbroken or hacked to unlock it.
