IPhone address book and Skype

Hi all,
Can anyone help please?
I use Skype on iphone for sending and receiving "normal" (ie landline and mobile) calls - as I don't have any network reception at home.
However, I can't find anyway to import contacts into skype such that it recognises numbers that are calling me...! When people are calling me it just comes through as a phone number, even though that person's phone number is on my phone. Very annoying, and seems quite stupid.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I did. I also posted this question to the Skype forum (http://forum.skype.com/index.php?s=95ff3f58ce7a5ddd87885c38d63295d4&showtopic=31 7341&pid=1439681&st=0&#entry1439681) and was redirected back to the Apple forum (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9169756).
This solution seems to have worked but I did have to do a little cleanup...

  • HT4489 How can I synchronize contacts between Apple Address Book/iPhone address book and Outlook (I'm on Mac OX10.7.4 and using Office 2011)?

I appear to have done what I should to move to iCloud on my Mac, MacbookAir, iPhone and iPad.  Using Outlook 2011 on the iMac and unable to sync contacts between Outlook and my Apple Address Book and iPhone over the cloud.  I gather lots of people have the same problem but some appear to have solved it... any ideas?
Also, in some sync, I managed to duplicate the entries on the Address Book on my Mac, whereas the iCloud Address Book is ok.  How can I replace the Address Book on my computer with the one on iCloud?
    Thank You for any help!

Hi Lucy, I had the same problem with Outlook data sync. Once you've enabled iCloud all your contacts are moved to iCloud and are no longer stored on Mac, that's why Outlook cannot reach them - there is simply nothing to reach as data physically stored in cloud.
I use SyncMate to solve this problem. This app allows connecting and syncing numerous devices and accounts with your Mac and they have recently added iCloud into this list (here the page where they describe sync with iCloud http://www.sync-mac.com/cloud-sync.html ).
This is how I established sync of my Outlook data with iCloud via this app.
    1. SyncMate syncs only that data which is located on your Mac so you will need to move your contacts back to Address Book on mac from iCloud and disable iCloud for contacts (in order they were stored on Mac, not in iCloud).
    2. You install SyncMate and add iCloud as a new connection (depending on data you want to sync you need to choose "Cloud contacts" or "Cloud calendars" connection in SyncMate wizard and log into your iCloud via SyncMate). Once you've done this, you can sync data on Mac with iCloud via SyncMate.
    3. I may assume that automatic sync option is enabled in Outlook preferences (as previously your contacts on Mac were synced with Outlook). If no - please, enable it (got to Outlook preferences).
    4. Once all this done, data will be automatically synced betwen Outlook and iCloud (latter via SyncMate). The trick of SyncMate is that data is physically located on your Mac (thus ensuring it will be synced with other devices and accounts SyncMate supports, as I said before, SyncMate works with data which is located on Mac), but you still can have it in iCloud (sync will be performed via SyncMate, no need to enable iCloud itself).
    5. And of course, you will be able to sync your iPhone contacts with your Mac (SyncMate supports sync with iPhones also). These contacts will be also synced to Outlook.

  • 2nd Laptop causing Syncing Problem between iPhone, Address Book, and Google

I sync my iPhone with my Macbook Pro at home, which allows me to sync my Address Book with Google. However, since buying a Macbook Air and syncing everything via MobileMe, I no longer can sync with Google. I think I could solve this problem with syncing my iPhone with my Macbook Air, but I don't want to (all my media is on the Pro).
Since Address Book isn't allowing my to sync with Google, several problems have manifested:
    • iChat no longer shows any of my friends (if I try to manually add them they simply show as "off-line" even when they're not).
    • Google Chat no longer shows any of my friends
AIM still works fine in iChat, so this is definitely a Google-Address Book problem.

Never received help, so I gave up.

  • Address Book and Skype

I added a telephone number of a friend in Address Book (didn't add the email). Now when I open Skype, that phone number appears there on the list of friends (but one of the options, if I open up the choices, is 'Add to list' which means it is not on the proper list). How can I avoid having phone numbers pop up automatically in Skype? As a test, I deleted it from Address Book, rebooted the computer, but the phone number is still there in Skype.

If the number is still in Skype, then Skype has a cache of recently added numbers that needs to be cleared of that number. It can't get something from Address Book that isn't there.
How can I avoid having phone numbers pop up automatically in Skype?
I would check the documentation for Skype, or ask their support people, since it's not an Apple product.

  • Iphone Sync deleted all contacts on google, Mac Address Book and Itunes

I have my phone synced to my google contacts. I did a sync trying to sync itunes, google and my address book and now everything has been deleted. I created a back up a month ago but when I do a restore from back up, it still does not give me my contacts, some how it is still syncing to google which is now blank. It's weird because the restore even gives me texts and photos I had on the back up date but it won't give me the contacts. I have tried changing the settings on the phone so it won't sync to google, I even changed my password on google hoping this would stop teh sync & allow the backup to show my contacts. I have tried using an iphoen extractor as well but since my phone is not jailbroken I am unable to use the file. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Sorry, should have given more info-I have an iphone 3G, MacBook Pro, operating system is MAC OS X.
Iphone syncs to google contacts but last sync deleted all of them (google & address book). I do have a back up which I know has all the contacts but when I do the restore, it still is syncing to google so I still don't have any contacts. How do I get my contacts from the backup & prevent the iphone from over riding the back up & syncing to google?

  • Problems synching iPhone 3Gs with Address Book and Calender

I have an iPhone 3Gs and have begun to notice that information is not being synched between Calender and the phone and Address Book and the phone. I now also have duplicate contacts for all contacts that were in my orginal iPhone before I upgraded. I suspect it has something to do with mobileme (which I don't subscribe to) and I have tried all the various synch options in iTunes. I know people have been having the problem and have solved theirs with the help of mobileme. How can I solve it without subscribing?

Yes I have a similar problem.
I lost all my contacts (today 23rd Mat 2011) on my 3G iPhone and the Address Book on my Mac Pro also.
The contacts in my MS Outlook were intact  I run Outlook:Mac 2011.
They have only just fixed the issue with the Calendar in this version 2 weeks ago an MS issue.
I plugged in the iPhone last night to charge and synch and this morming the phone had no contacts and I had lost all the address Book I had some  group headings  (greyed out)
It's almost like a plot to get Outlook users frustrated and make them switch but, Outlook is too good.
Outlook:mac 2011 contacts does not synch with Mac address book

  • I have lost all my address book and iCal content on my MacBook Pro. How do I restore from my iPhone?

I have lost all my address book and iCal content on my MacBook Pro. How do I restore from my iPhone? I tried synchronising my iPhone to the MacPro but then lost all the content on the iPhone. I managed to get it back using the restore. This means the only content I have for Address Book and iCal sits on my iPhone!

Put one unique entry in both iCal & Address Book on your Mac. These entries can be fake, that doesn't matter, just make sure Address Book & iCal are not empty. Then when you select to sync contacts & calendars on the Info pane in iTunes, you'll get a merge or replace prompt. Select merge.

Did you create these notes in the iPad notes App ... I assume?
This support article will explain how you can restore from a backup - which is what you have to do in order to have any chance of recovering your note.
How to backup and restore from a backup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
But you have to remember, that you will lose any of the notes that you have taken since the date of the last backup. If you synced your iPad last week, then you will lose a whole week of current notes - or whatever notes you have created since your last backup. When you restore from a backup - you restore everything in that backup onto the iPad - that was on the iPad on the time and date of the backup.
If you backup every day, then all of your notes should be recoverable from the backup - except for any notes that you took since you last backed up. There is no foolproof way to recover everything once you start taking more notes or creating new documents or whatever that you do in an app unless you are syncing those notes with iCloud and backing up all of the time or unless the app is set to sync with iCloud as you work on the files - like in Pages, Numbers or Keynote - Apple's iWorks apps.
If you decide to restore from an iTunes backup you should turn off at sync before you try restoring because iTunes will want to backup your iPad right away when you plug it in and you will lose your old or last backup.

  • Address book and iPhone sync... two issues

    Hi,
I have two problems. The first is that every time I add, edit or delete contacts on my iPhone, the changes are never reflected on my computer no matter how many times I sync. This has not always been the case but I am unsure how long this has been going on as it is not easily noticed due to the fact that I have over 1500 contacts.
I decided to bite the bullet and allow my address book on the computer to wipe my iPhone contacts. When I did I ended up with 1513 cards on my address book and only 1510 cards on my iPhone!
How is this possible? Is anyone else suffering from the fact that the iPhone does not update the computers address book?

The most plausible explanation is that you have 3 contacts on your computer that have corrupted data and could not be transferred. In addition, ANY corrupted records on the computer prevent a normal sync from happening.
You need to find the bad records. One way to do this is to create a new group in Address Book, and put some of the contacts in this group. Then sync the group to the iPhone. If it works, continue adding more until it stops syncing. You then know the set with the bad data. One neat trick is called "binary search". Add half you contacts to the group. If it works, the problem is in the other half, so swap the halves. If it doesn't work, move half of the contacts OUT of the group and try again. Follow this process, halving each time to keep bad contacts in the group until you have located them.

  • HT204150 Hi, I made a mistake by allowing facebook to download all my contacts in my address book. Now i need to clean my address book and keep only my original contacts. If i do it on my macbook, will it reflect on my iphone?

Hi, I made a mistake by allowing facebook to download all my contacts in my address book. Now i need to clean my address book and keep only my original contacts. If i do it on my macbook, will it reflect on my iphone? Or will my iphone redownload all the contacts i deleted when i connect it to my macbook or through the cloud?
when working with icloud, is there a primary device (macbok, ipad...) on which if the changes are made, they reflect on all other devices?

I see.  If you are syncing contacts with iCloud on both your Mac and your iPhone, deleting a contact from either device will delete them from icloud.com and all other devices.
What's really going on with iCloud is that your contacts actually reside on the iCloud server.  Your Mac and iPhone are merely reading the current contact list as it exists on the server.  When you delete a contact (or make any other change) on either device, you are making these changes on the server.  As a result, all other devices "syncing" contacts with the same iCloud account will read this change.  When you log onto icloud.com, you are viewing the server from your browser.

  • IPhone email, Mail and Address Book (and MobileMe)

    Hi All.
Can someone please explain to me how Mail is able to use the Address Book contacts - if in fact it does use the Address Book contacts - on my laptop and my desktop?
I am currently on Thunderbird but have other software that I am told syncs to Address Book. This would make my life easier. I am thinking about converting to Mail instead of Thunderbird (to cut out one step in the "food chain" but I want to be sure I am making the right move and understand what I am doing.
Also, can anyone explain to me what my iPhone email is accessing when it tries to do an autocomplete?
Do the "Contacts" on my iPhone sync up to Address Book in any way via MobileMe??
Thanks for help on any of that...
    Jon

    Hi Daiya.
I can't tell you how much help this is.
Yes, iPhone Contacts sync to Address Book, via either iTunes sync or MobileMe.
This is sort of funny isn't it? That they are called Contacts on the iPhone and Address Book on MobileMe and on my laptop?
I believe the iPhone autocomplete checks both your Contacts AND any recently used addresses--there's no built-in method to clear the recently used addresses, as far as I know.
This is true for both MobileMe mail, GMail and for my website based email ([email protected]), yes?
You might also check out Postbox--from what I understand, it's built on Thunderbird, but it says it talks to the Mac Address Book and other parts of OS X.
    Thanks!
Integration with OS X features does seem to be Thunderbird's weak spot--I actually use MS Entourage, which has reasonable integration, much better than Thunderbird. I'd say it's not so much that you need to cut out a step in the food chain as that Thunderbird just doesn't participate in the OS X food chain.
Hi. Thanks. I'm planning on getting CardScan (where I handle Business Cards) synced up with Address Book. I can do this and it would be really simple I am told.
The question is now where do I go from there.
I have not read up on PostBox yet but I am starting to think that I need to perfect my Address Book in Thunderbird and export it to Address Book. Then I can start handling email in Mail.
If I do this, my thought is that my business cards will be synced with Address Book, Address Book will be synced with Mail (on my laptop and my desktop) and Address Book will be synced with my iPhone Contacts (where I compose email).
    How does that sound??!!
    Long time goal over here...

  • HT4993 transfer my address book and photos from my nokia to my iPhone?

transfer my address book and photos from my nokia to my iPhone?

You need to transfer the contacts and photos from the Nokia to your Mac (via Bluetooth or USB cable), import the contacts into Address Book and the photos into iPhoto and then sync them to the iPhone via iTunes.

  • Syncing iPhone to iCal and Address Book and vice versa do not work

I am a 6 year Mac user and a 1 1/2 year iPhone user. What I am about to tell you should have been addressed long ago. When I sync my iPhone to my iMac only the applications and music sync. Neither data from the iCal or Address Book sync either way. I used to be able to sync appointments from my original iPhone to iCal, but my 3G phone does not sync at all. Could you tell me where to turn or what to do. I think I need to fix it.
And, how do I change the calendars on the iPhoen. All events are on the same calendar and I can't figure out how to specify a calendar for an event. You would think I would know this by now, but I don't......Thanks so much

If you have selected the Address Book and iCal under the Info tab for your iPhone 3G sync preferences to sync contact info and calendars with and this is not working, try resetting the sync history on your Mac, which is done via iSync preferences with the iSync application located in your Applications folder.
Quit iTunes, the Address Book, and iCal first. Launch iSync and to to iSync preferences. After selecting reset sync history, restart your Mac and try syncing this data again.
When creating a new calendar event, there is a selection for which calendar you want to place the new event in if you have multiple calendars.
If you have multiple calendars, you can select the calendar you want to create the new event in. After launching Calendar, there is a Calendars selection at the top to view all calendars. You can select a calendar to view all entries for that calendar only and for entering a new event for that calendar. Or select All Calendars to view the events for all calendars. When creating a new event with All Calendars selected, you can choose which calendar with the new event entry.
