Iphone and another device

Question

Hi All,
So for reasons I dont want to bore you all with I need a to use both a Droid X and I also want to get an Iphone 4.
Now my question is how easy is it to activate one device from another. So for example on my commute on the bus I would use the Iphone but towards the end of the journey I want to put the Iphone away and activate the Droid X for the rest of the day at work.
Is this possible? If so how would I do it?  I think it is, and I also think if one of my devices was something like an Thunderbolt that the LTE would cause extra complications.  But for an Iphone 4 and Droid can I seemlessly day to day switch between devices (obviously moving my number as I switch)?

I have been trying to do the same thing myself, no success though
It should be as easy as shutting off the currently activated/programmed phone, turning on the phone you want to switch to, dialing *228 option 1, entering in your phone number and last 4 digits of your SSN (or account holder's SSN if you are a dependant/secondary line), then it should reprogram the phone and transfer your number, then do the same thing with the other phone to switch back
That said, I have noticed some issues with that procedure personally, so it isn't completely foolproof
In my experience, after dialing *228 option 1, then typing in the number and SSN for my number/account, it tells me it's going to program the phone, immediately followed by a message saying "the phone cannot be programmed" or something similar, then hangs up, all Verizon reps I talk to say it should transfer just fine and I shouldn't be having that issue
In my case, I only use my old Droid phone for navigation and some apps, so I just decided to tether it with my iPhone and forget about switching

There are many reasons why someone would want to switch back and forth between an iPhone and Droid
While the iPhone and Droid are similar, there are major differences, the Droid (in my experience) has a superior navigation/GPS app and hardware compared to anything for the iPhone, and has apps and widgets that you can only dream the iPhone getting, yet the Android OS, while wonderful as it may be, has some major flaws, most of them being that you can't close out of apps, causing, among other things, app/OS crashing, lagging/freezing, and most importantly, battery issues (the main reason I switched to the iPhone), and being I had the Eris, if I remember right, the last available update was Eclair, so I have no hopes of seeing Froyo, Gingerbread, etc.
By having both, you get the best of both worlds, then you can just switch back and forth depending on what you want/need to do at that particular time without having to get 2 numbers/lines
The OP may have his own valid reasons for switching between the two, there are enough differences to require both
