Iphone and computer died at the same time, my hard drive on the computer is ok, i did a external connection of my hard drive to my laptop, my iphone was backed up on itunes on the computer which are on the hard drive, how do i extract contacts and other files from the hard drive thanks
If the old drive is not accessible then, no, you will not be able to access all your files on it. In this case you may need to look at the following:

If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

I have an Ipod touch with about 900 songs on it, i used to connect with my old pc until it recently broke. i have just bought a new pc and was wondering how i could get my music from my ipod to my new computer! the only thing i need is music , no videos or anything. does anyone know how i can do this for free? not very good with computers by the way!

Our old computer has died. Repair guy is able to retrieve files from hard drive. My kids have an ipod nano and ipod touch. How do we get the new computer set up and get all of the songs/apps/movies onto the new computer? Should I ask repair guy to look for specific file on hard drive or will itunes get info from their ipods when they plug in?

I am trying to make a pdf of a file and I need to get the file size to be no bigger than 10MB. Even when I save it, the image quality at minimum the file size is 10.9 MB. What is the best way to do this
@Barbara – What purpose is that PDF for? Print? Web?
If web purpose, you could convert CMYK images to sRGB. That would reduce the file size as well.
A final resort to bring down file size is:
1. Print to PostScript
2. Distill to PDF
That would bring file size down even more. About 20%, depending on the images and other contents you are using, compared with the Acrobat Pro method. If you like you could send me a personal message, so we could exchange mail addresses. I could test for you. Just provide the highres PDF without any downsampling and transparency intact. Best provide a PDF/X-4.
I will place the PDF in InDesign, print to PostScript, distill to PDF.

Now make ur server educated using some commands.

On the Mac Air launch iTunes. Then connect either the iPad or iPhone.
Select the iPad or iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window in the source list.
Then select Apps from the menu on the right.
If you don't see the apps listed there, from your iTunes menu bar (top of your screen), click Store > Authorize This Computer.

I have two ext HDD intended to ensure I don't lose my photos( iPhoto 08). I disconnected my HDD temporarily when relocating.
I then synced my iphone and iPhoto it seems has rebuilt the library from the old copy of the library (2011. I have Time Machine but I can't restore the last 3y photos as I guess Time machine does not back up the other HDD.
Any chance of finding my treasured photos somebody?Sounds like you have another iPhoto library someplace - under no conditions would iPhoto revert a library to an older one - you just need to find and open the correct one
Depress and hold the option key, launch iPhoto and use the resulting select library to look st the libraries you have

Why can't I open and retrieve my files from iPhoto and my Address Book after importing the files from my Power Mac G5 to my new Mac Pro? I get a warning that says the new OS on my Pro doesn't open files from a Power Mac. Any idea how I can fix this?
For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys. Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it. It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process. It sounds like you may have purchased a CreatePDF subscription through safari, using our web interface. If this is the case, the good news is that subscription will also work with the (free) Adobe Reader. Simply install the Reader from the App Store:

Once installed, you can then use "Open In" from another app like Mail to open the Word document in Adobe Reader. Reader will show the word doc, but it will also show you a message pointing to the "convert" button (A document with an arrow through it in the toolbar). Pressing this button should prompt you to sign into Acrobat.com. Use the same account you used to purchase your subscription and Reader will upload the word document for conversion, placing it in the Acrobat.com and Outbox section of the Reader. iMac, just had repaired new Harddrive erase deverything,wheres my iPhoto n all those apps, i know the gone from hard drive but i thought they would transfer from my phone? HELP ?
Those Apps would not transfer from your iPhone because the iPhone apps are iOS 5 based and the iMac apps are OSX based. They are not the same Apps. You will need to transfer the OSX based apps over from your external hardware backup you have kept up, Or you can reinstall the OSX based apps from their original DVD's.

No chance without special tools/knowledge. There are companies that can do it, unless you use multiple format or rewrite data with special erase ustility or unless you have done low level format.

Computer died, need to get sync on different computer
my piece of crap laptop finally died and it had all my music on it. The other computers we have both are synced with other ipods. How do I get my music on another itunes without giving an ipod their music, getting theirs, or completly erasing my own?
1). Create a Windows user account for yourself on another computer, this will give you a new blank iTunes library of your own to work from. Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
