IPhone and Europe

Does anybody know if I can when I am in Europe, Get a sim card there and put it in my iPhone and use it? I know in Europe you can buy sim cards that have minutes on them.
Thanks

It is only possible with a jailbroken phone (which you shouldn't do because it will break ur agreement with apple) and a officially unlocked phone.
If u have an unlocked phone you could use a provider such as 02 and get a prepaid sim.

Can I use my iPhone in Europe and will it work as a hotspot for my iPad?

It didn't work for me during my February 2013 visit to Switzerland. The Personal Hotspot feature on my iPhone 4S works fine when I am in the US. Upon arrival in Switzerland, my phone connected to the Swisscom network. Phone calls, SMS, Web, and E-mail worked fine on the iPhone. Funny is the Personal Hotspot feature completely disappeared from the settings menu while there. It reappeared once I was back in the US.

Apple does not unlock iPhones. This is and always has been controlled by the cellular provider. Contact them to determine their unlocking policy and if you qualify.

You need an device (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) with iOS 5 if you want to use iCloud. Furthermore it is also not possible to open www.icloud.com with Safari on an iOS device.
But if you want to set up Mail on your device with iOS 4 then you can do it manually. Therefor follow these instructions for devices with iOS 4: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5330

  • HT1688 Traveling in Europe and iphone 5 has NO SERVICE.  I have had other iPhones and other cell phones in the past and never had this problem

I am traveling in Europe and for the first time in over 10 years I am not able to use my cell phone.  This is my third iPhone and I have never had any trouble in the past in connecting as soon as off the plane!!!!  I have tried everything to fix it.  Chatted with AT&T and couldn't help me either.  Resetted settings, network settings, turned off and rebooted at least ten times.  Removed Sim card and still NOTHING.  NO SERVICE and SEARCHING is all I can get.

Tracy, first you should restart the iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.  This process could solve some of your problems.  Also make sure you have the latest update, go into  our settings>general>software update.  On the wifi issue try restarting your router, if you are still having problems try resetting your network settings, go into your settings>general>reset then tap reset network settings.
The battery issues seems normal, the battery will not last 24 hours.

We have 4 Iphones and one Apple id (used for ITunes). Since upgrading to  IOS  6 on my phone, I now receive ALL the text messages destined to the others! What should I do to get back to "normal", without opting out of Imessages or FaceTime?

I'm afraid I may abuse of your generosity here, but I do have another question (that's the reason for the mistaken category of the post you answered). My daughter just arrived in her International Student residence in Europe yesterday, where internet's only available by Ethernet. She wishes to reverse-tether, from her PowerBook to her Iphone (because of the cost of using Internet on her phone over there). I found some instructions about Internet Sharing, in System Prefs, etc. "From: Ethernet, To: Airport" Enable Internet Sharing, and all...She did everything, by the book (or so, she thinks) but nothing shows on her Iphone Wi-Fi Settings when she tries to connect... I also read that it could be done with a Bluetooth PAN, but I got lost, as I tried to follow the instructions here at home, after pairing computer and Phone, with a "rude" message appearing on my phone telling me to "forget that device". Can you help?

Please, Need power adapter from an iPhone 5 Europe to charge it in canada?

You just need to get an adapter for the plug pins
No need for a voltage adapter, just look for 120/240 50/60Hz on the label and if you do see it you're set for North American power.

  • Iphone in europe

I want to travel with my iphone in Europe using only ipod and wifi features. I do not want to receive any bills from ATT for phone useage or data, what is the best way to prevent this other than not making phone calls. thank you joanlvh

Enable Airplane mode on your iPhone while there.
Beginning with firmware update 2.0, you are able to turn on wi-fi access only with Airplane mode enabled.

  • IPhone in Europe - working fine

My wife and I both got an iPhone and she landed in Paris today. She sent a text message right away (2am my time) and then called later. She surfs the web, too.
I called ATT to let them know she was travelling and it was no problem (long time customers). They said our rate was $1.29 / minute but could sign up for a better rate with a monthly charge.
She hasn't tried everything yet, but so far so good.
    Cheers,
    JB

I just spoke at length with an ATT international specialist to set up my iPhone as I travel internationally quite a bit. First, from a phone standpont, there is not much difference between the iPhone and any other ATT phone. There can be a significant difference with data though. Please note, although the iPhone has unlimited data usage in the U.S. that is definitely not true when operated internationally. Here's what I have found:
    1) ATT has a new $24.95/month supplemental international iPhone plan (over and above your normal iPhone plan) that includes favorable rates for international phone (similar to ATT World Traveler) roaming plus 20 Mb of data (on a monthly basis). Data charges above 20 Mb are about $.02/kb. This plan is only available on a one year contract basis.
    2) The above is a bit pricey so one can activate ATT World Traveler ($5.99/month) for intenational roaming and get that $1.29/min. rate for France down to $0.99/min. World Traveler can be started and stopped only for trips and is a non-contract add on.
    3) To make international calls from the U.S. ATT WorldConnect at $3.99 per month is a pretty good deal. the savings can be dramatic and can offer as much as a 10X reduction in rates. Remember you will still eat up your minutes unless you're calling on the nights or weekends. The WorldConnect rate for France is $0.09/min. to a landline phone there.
    4) No matter which plan you'll use your phone account needs to be "validated" for international operation. They have a group that does this and it takes about 10 minutes. It involves mostly a series of questions to verify that it is really you who is requesting international service (a fraud protection). Do not assume that you can just take your phone to Europe, or anywhere else outside the U.S. for that matter, and begin using your phone. Get it "validated" first.
    5) In my case, the $24.95/month for a year is not worth it as I travel to Europe only 3-4 times per year. I have elected to get ATT WorldConnect at $3.99/month as I do make calls to Europe. I will activate ATT World Traveler about a week before I travel and stop it when I return (for international roaming). SMS messaging will be billed at $0.50/message outgoing and free incoming (since my iPhone plan has 200 messages). Above 200 I will pay $0.15/message incoming. Data will be billed simply at about $0.02/Kb so the order of the day will simply be email with only the first couple of lines downloaded unless i reaaly have a message I must respond to or read in detail. My normal trips to Europe (2 weeks) will eat up about $15-$20 in email data charges (this was on T-Mobile which is similar to ATT in this regard).
When I go to "My Account" on the ATT web site I see under "Rate Plan and Features" and then "Added Features":
AT&TWldConnect $3.99 (International calling plan from the U.S.)
    EXPANDEDINTLROAM $0.00 (International validation)
I hope this clears things up.

  • IPhone and it's messaging capabilities

    Hi,
I've recently purchased an iPhone and am astounded by some of it's glaring ommisions.
I have read a lot of threads on this forum that say you should have done research etc, before you bought it, but why would I?
MMS - Don't ALL modern phones do this these days?
SMS - Don't ALL modern phones, even the £20 quid from Tesco ones have the ability to send texts to more than one person at a time? Also, EVERY mobile I've ever owned has had the ability to forward an SMS.
I know I'll probably get flamed for daring to say what has already been said. But if you bought a brand new Nokia for instance, would you check up to see if you can send/recieve an MMS? No, of course you wouldn't.
    Message was edited by: Grovers

If a recent purchase as in within the last week or so, you can return it.
In the U.S., an iPhone can be returned for credit within the first 14 days after the purchase date - less a 10% restocking fee if the packaging is opened - small price to pay for making assumptions and with such information readily available and if a new AT&T subscriber, the contract can be cancelled without penalty within the first 30 days or a different phone can be purchased or used.
To each his/her own and I understand this is much more popular in Europe but I don't use SMS very often and the times I've used MMS wasn't worth it. Sending a mediocre quality photo at best to be viewed on a small and usually not so great quality screen and the same for video capture with a 300KB or smaller message size limit? No thank you for me.

  • 2 iphone5s for us and europe?

I need to get new phones for my bosses who travel the world and currently have numerous separate phones.  For complex reasons, they don't want to have one device with everything on it for the world so I need to get the new iphones for the US while their other iphones (and ipads and airbooks) are all filled with European styled data (contacts etc).  I thus cannot use iCloud to sync the new phones, as this will either bring in the Euro content or it will wipe it out on their other existing Euro devices.
I am thinking (hoping) I can sync the new phones once to get the basic import of contacts, and then just not sync it with iCloud so the contacts in the US phones will remain styled as US , etc.  yes?   or can I keep the contacts syncing with iCloud and set the US iPhone to display them as US-styled on the US phone while still having their Euro iPhones display as Int'l dialing?  or will the iCloud syncing change the numbers display to be identical (ie. 011-44-xxx-xxxx vs +1 (44) xxx-xxxx)
    Mail:
I'm not sure exactly what to do about mail.  I am assuming that whether I sync it or just create the mail accounts on the iphone as stand alone, they will still end up with a zillion "unread" emails on the phones that they will have already read during the months they were ex-US.  If there's a work around this, please suggest.
I know logic dictates they should just have one iPhone and swap sim cards for the different territories, but I'm dealing with people who have been trained to keep all their devices separate and are "PC" based people (with PC IT people in Europe driving this train) who I am trying to segue into trusting Mac products.  Therefore right now, they want only a "US phone" which will remain in the US.
    Hope I'm making sense.
    Thanks!

For contacts, you can use iCloud to create groups, & then decide what group is visible on what phone:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2667
For mail, if Exchange or IMAP accounts(I suspect Exchange), mail will be kept in sync.

  • IPhone and Apple Support Abroad

    Hello all,
I have been having some problems using my iPhone, and I am considering going to an Apple store for recourse. There are, however, a few potential obstacles, and I want to make sure that I am in a situation where going to an Apple store would be a feasible option.
    The Problem
My iPhone 5, after long use, is now failing to charge. I have tried cleaning the charging port to no avail (I should note that I have exhausted most suggested methods, and I don't expect that I will be able to get the phone to begin working again on my own). As a result, my phone is dead and cannot be restored to life.
    Potential Obstacles
    Obtaining Service
My iPhone has seen better days. There is a small crack in the top right corner of the screen, and part of the screen is altogether missing. I do not want Apple to fix my screen, and I don't expect that the problems stem in any way from damage done to the external display of my phone. My phone likely can work, evidenced by the fact that when I hold the power button, the phone tells me that the battery is dead.
I consider this an obstacle because I may be denied service altogether for the damage to the phone. Any advice here would be appreciated.
    Location
I am a permanent resident of the United States, but I am studying abroad in Italy for the summer. I have access to an Apple store in Bologna, which would not be a great trek for me, but I am not sure whether they will be able to offer the same services.
Can Apple associates in the store there service a US Apple phone?
    Alternative Recourse
If for either of the above two reasons (or any others in addition), I cannot have my phone worked on in the Apple store nearby, I may purchase a new iPhone. In that case, I may want to buy one at the Apple store in Bologna.
    Potential Obstacle
I am on my family's Verizon Wireless plan, and I would be using my phone "upgrade" to purchase any new phone. As Verizon is not so active in Europe as it is in the United States, I'm wondering whether I would be able to perform such an upgrade at the Apple store.
Can I upgrade my phone at a European Apple store?
Thank you for your time, and feel free to ask for any more information. I appreciate your help.

Apple will not replace only the battery if the screen is broken.

You likely could get the iPhone replaced out of warranty ($269)

    No.
You would need to send it to a relative/friend in the US and have them take it to Apple for you.

You can purchase a new iPhone but it will not be connected to your current phone plan in any way.
You could have your family get a new iPhone on their plan where they live and send it to you.

  • IPhone and other service providers? (not at+t)

Does anyone know when iPhone is going to be released to non-AT+T service providers? Why did they sign an exclusive contract with them?
I would get an unlocked iPhone but I heard that you lose all data when updating if not on the AT+T plans. Is this true? I need to have Tmobile for their extensive European coverage, but really, really want an iPhone...

    1. Not at least until 2012/13 due to the 5 year exclusivity agreement between Apple & AT&T
    2. Because AT&T agreed to Apple's demands for control and revenue sharing. The other three networks were too greedy. Plus Verizon & Sprint have strikes against them because they don't use the world-wide GSM standard. You can't use their phones in Europe, for example.

If you want to use an iPhone in Europe, you can get a reasonable plan from AT&T, or possibly rent/buy an iPhone in Germany where T-Mobile IS the exclusive provider.
