IPhone and Google

I just learned that we can sync Google contacts and calendar with our iPhone. I already have my Mac Address Book and Mac Calendar synced to my phone. But I have contacts and calendar on Google and I like much about their applications. Would I be duplicating, messing up, or crashing my iPhone if I attempt to sync it with the Google tidbits, too?
Thanks!

Hi Elaine,
The Google account would be added to the iPhone as an Exchange account, more information available here: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740
You shouldn't have to worry about duplicates.
+"Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is overwritten. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services."+ from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2480
You can also sync Address Book on your Mac with Google. Just set it up through the Address Book preferences window.

  • How can I sync "On My Mac" iCal calendars on Snow Leopard with iPhone and Google Calendar?

    Hi,
(I've done a lot of searching for a clear answer but without success.)
Can someone please advise how I can get the "On My Mac" calendars on iCal v4.0.4 (running under Snow Leopard 10.6.8) to sync with an iPhone and Google Calendars,  'over the air' (i.e. not via iTunes) and both ways (two-way syncing).
There was a great bit of software called Spanning Sync which did it all but it's now discontinued. I'm running Snow Leopard and do NOT want to upgrade to OS Lion.
I've tried the iCloud route but it just creates an extra set of "@me.com" calendars under the "On My Mac" calendars - it is not syncing the "On My Mac" calendars themselves (and I want to use the "On My MAc" calendars as the master dataset (the 'Truth database' to use an Apple term!).
... And the same happens when I try to sync my Google Calendars: another set of "@google.com" calendars appear.
Now instead of 2 calendars in iCal I have 6: 2 On My Mac calendars, 2 iCloud ones, and 2 Google ones. (This is not progress Apple!)
    Hope someone can advise.
    Many thanks.

Thanks Winston.  I'm aware that the 'on my mac' calendar doesn't get picked up by iCloud.  I'm wondering whether anyone can help with the best alternative solution for synchronisation of phone and Outlook.

  • IPhone and Google Calendar issue

I'm going mental trying to figure something out here and I hope that someone can help me.
My wife and I both have an iphone, and, gmail accounts and wanted to have a calendar used by both of us so we can update different reminders and events and have them sync over the air. easy enough. Right ?
I created my calender under gmail. Set it up on my iphone, and, all is working fine. If I create an event on the gmail calendar, it gets pushed to my phone, and, it happens the other way around also. perfect. that part is good.
Now, I get my wife's phone and set hers up to "subscribe" to my calendar. All seems to work fine, but, for some reason, she isn't getting pop-up alerts on her phone when an event happens.
If I update something on my calendar, and, she opens up my calendar on her iphone, she can see that there is a new event, but, it doesn't pop-up a reminder on her phone when it's time. It kinda defeats the purpose of this utility.
I made sure on her gmail page that she has pop-up reminders on. am I missing something?
I've been subscribing and unsubscribing to my calender (with her phone for hours now) trying to figure out what Im doing wrong, and Im about to go mad.
    Any ideas?

I got it figured out. Thanks for your quick and detailed help "Randy Fast"

  • Iphone and Google maps

Anyone notice there map is out of date? (at least in my area) i have tried to contact Google but unsuccessful. The map i have for my area is at least 4 years out of date due to many roads in my area not showing up on the phone but it does on the Google maps website. Is there a way to manually update it or link it to an updated map?
    Thank you in advance

And if not, why are they taking so long? I care about this, and not even telling people if they will be able to turn this off is worrying.
This is not a matter of whether or not it's a "big deal" or not, it is up to the individual to decide for themselves what they will and will not tolerate. Apple's continued silence is only making matters worse. They need to say SOMETHING.

    Android does the same thing.
    Have they said anything?
As far as I know, no one has said anything.
What do you want them to say?

  • How to create event on iPhone and have it sync with Google and Exchange?

How can you synchronize your Exchange calendar with your Google calendar? I have an Exchange account and Google Sync set up on my iPhone 4. However, when I create an event on my iPhone, I have to pick which calendar it goes in, and it shows up only in that calendar, not in both. How do I get the calendars to actually sync with each other?

Install the Google Sync plugin for Outlook on your computer, and sync the iPhone calendar to Google. Of course, this means that your computer must always be on.

Its a easy fix,it will take too much time to type out all of the steps,
Check your email account. see if they are their, You can then import them on your DAV card, The best thing to is add them to icoud then they will be safe.
Apple support can talk you through it.

  • ICal+iPhone Calendar+Google Calendar and mobile me

I have an iPhone 3g 2.1.... i am running the most recent version of Mac OSX and i have the newest iCal installed on my mac... My google calendar syncs with iCal through CalDAV. I also have Mobileme and it syncs with iCal. I want to be able to have a sync between iCal,Google Calendars and iPhone. I thought this would work with Mobileme. When i set up my calendar and google calendar it creates a different calendar.... I need the same calendar synced between all three..

I use nuevasync to sync my google calendar to my iphone. It is free and uses a microsoft exchange server format to automatically sync your phone calendar with your google calendar over the air.
IE: you don't have to sync your iphone with your computer. Instead, when you edit or add an event in your google calendar it will automatically update your iphone's calendar over the cell network, without you doing anything. Also, if you add or edit an event on your iphone's calendar, it will automatically update your google calendar as well. That way, you don't have to mess with ical. Just use google calendar and your iphone's calendar.
Since you've already got your iCal synching with your google calendar via CalDAV, your iCal will come along for the ride.
Thus, you can do all this for free, without mobileme, and without even having to plug your iphone into your computer to synch it.
Go to this website to check out Nuevasync. http://www.nuevasync.com/ You have to sign up for a free account, but it doesn't take long and they won't spam you or anything. Then go to "device setup instructions" and It will tell you how to set it up on your iphone. I've been using it for about 3 months now and it works great. (I don't work for them or anything, just love their service!)

I've considered using NuevaSync, but it looks like it will use my gmail contacts instead of address book? Is this true? I'd prefer to keep the address book.
Honestly, If I was able to edit calendars that I have synced with iCal from Google through CalDav(CalDev?) I'd be fine, (Right now iCal syncs with Google and my iPhone synce with iCal), but when I add an event on the iPhone, it doesn't allow me to edit any of the synced calendars. I can only edit a separate, unsynced calendar. Does anyone have any idea how to edit a synced calendar?
