IPhone and iPad2-different carriers

I want to upgrade my phone to an IPhone through my current carrier, which is Verizon. However, my iPad2 3G is AT&T. If I get an iPhone, will I be able to "tether" my iPhone to my iPad for Internet service? Do both devices' carriers have to match?

It does not matter what service the iPad has as you are using the iPhone's network when tethering. You will need to talk to your carrier about the plan.

Just turn on iMessage... Settings > Messsages > iMessage > On
Note that iMessage uses data (very small amount) so you need a cellular data (3G/4G) or wifi connection for iMessagae to work. Also, in the Messages app, iMessages are blue and standard text messages are green.

I have an iMac, and iPhone. I've had my Apple ID for a few years.
My wife got an iPhone 4S a few months back and the salesperson at Verizon set her Apple ID the same as mine, but gave her a different password. I don't know if this was ok, but that is what happened.
So, yesterday, we both upgraded to IOS6 and I had no problem logging in to my iPhone with my Apple ID. When my wife went to log in, she was told that she was entering the wrong password. We entered the password over and over again and still was wrong.
The question is... can two people share the same Apple ID on two different iPhones and maintain different passwords? (I have the feeling her iPhone is thinking that since it's my Apple ID, it wants my password.)
If not, can I still set up a new Apple ID for her even through she's had the iPhone for a few months?

You shold follow your feelings, its probably right most of the time.
You can have 5 different devices hucked upp to one Apple ID. What I have done is that my wife and I have one Apple ID, when I bye a new app on my phone, She gets it to. Thats nice.
You can allways set upp a new Apple ID for your wife.

Syncing with new computer
1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

If you backed up your iphone to icloud, then there's a chance that doing a restore might bring back your photos. I say "chance" because many users have tried that (assuming they had photos turned in for backups in settings), but ended up not getting back any photos. If that happens, then they are gone.
Remember, you should have been syncing photos all along to a computer for archiving. Don't trust the pictures to an icloud backup.

If you are syncing your iPad calendar with a supported program on your computer using iTunes you can use iTunes to sync it to your phone too. Otherwise, if you are running iOS 5 or higher on your iPad you can sync your calendar to your phone using iCloud.

Decide which device will be changing accounts. On that device, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll that you want to keep on the device, save them to the camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The device(s) that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iDevice. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, to delete any data that you don't want in each account (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa) you will have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete it.

Only if officially unlocked, which only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize. Be aware, most carriers will not authorize official unlocking unless you were a customer that used the phone on their network. Best to stay away from carrier locked iPhones if your intent is to use the phone with a different carrier.

I upgraded to ver. 10.4 and now my pc freezes when trying to back up my iphone and ipad2

Since upgrading itunes to 10.4.3 I am unable to upgrade my software on my iphone 3GS and ipad2. As itunes first backs up these devices, it gets to Step 1 and then freezes. I am running Win 7 and had no problems with the previous versions of itunes.
Has anyone else run into this problem?

I am having the same issue. I just got a iPad2 and Sync'd it to my PC on Monday worked fine.... I added photo and then went back and changed the directory structure to organize them and now upon optimizing them it freezes and I get a windows error tell me the fail module is QuickTiime. I uninstalled the Apple of products and reinstall them and I still get the same issue. Everything worked fine before I Sync'd the iPad.....

Ichat not working on pro but working on iphone and ipad2

Hi, just as my subject matter says: All of a sudden my macbook pro will not send nor does it receive ichat.
When I try sending it tells me that it could not send message retry or cancel, when I click on the persons name it tells me that they are not a registered ichat user. I am getting ichat through my iphone and my ipad2, just not the pro.
Any suggestions??

The App is called Messages in Mountain Lion.
It can do the new iMessages Apple Messaging service method which is compatible with the iOS devices version also called Messages.
As long as the iOS devices and the iMessage account on the Mac are using the same Apple ID then the iMessages sent from any device should be shown on the others.
The Person's Name pulled from the Blue icon > Contacts list should also indicated which parts of their info is their iMessage info (iPhone Numbers and Apple IDs or listed email aliases)
I would try using the Sign Out button in Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts (iMessages account)
and then re-add the Apple ID.

Having an iphone and 2 different ipods on same itunes, syncing iphone

Is there anyway that there can be 2 itunes programs on 1 computer? The reason i ask, is that its a pain to sync the iphone after syncing an ipod. To sync the ipod you just select everything in the library. With the iphone's lesser memory you have to select, basically, one song at a time. This is a huge pain to do with nearly 6000 songs. Having 2 itunes programs that maintain to seperate library lists but used only 1 library would make syning much more painless. If there is a current way of doing this could someone let me know. Thanks.

My first suggestion would be that you read the users guides for both iTunes and the iPhone and/or search help for "playlists". You can easily make custom playlists for each device that you synch to the same copy of iTunes. The online video tutorials on iPhone support will also show you how to do this.
When your iPod, or iPhone, are connected to the computer, click on that "device" in the left hand column and you can select what you want synched from the "options" at the bottom of the page, and from any of the "tabbed" categories noted at the top of the window.
My kids synch two iPods, and two iPhones, to iTunes on one computer. They each have separate playlists for their individual iPods, as well as their individual iPhones. Another benefit of this arrangement is that they freely "share" their music, videos, and podcasts with each other (of course...it's really MY music as I paid for all of it.)

The thing is, there is music, movies, that I would like to have on both devices, but I want to keep iphone apps and ipad apps separate. In addition, I don't want to sync my music with ipad. I would like to be able to do this also but, i'm not sure how to set my iPad to manually sync for one thing and also, when I connect my iPad to my new (recently purchased,first time,new to this) iMac it only gives me the option to either set up as 'new' or 'restore to my recent iPhone back up'. I just want them to be separate. How can I fix this please?
