IPhone and iTunes on a new computer....

Ok, so i just got the Dell XPS M1330... and im transfering my stuff form my old XPS M140, How do i transfer my iTunes stuff to my new notebook? I already downloaded iTunes on the new notebook.... what do i do from here to get everything the way is was on my new notebook. Will i lose my information (contacts, music, phone number, basically everything that is already synced on my iPhone) if i sync it to my new notebook? will it automatically trasfer all the info from my iPhone to my new notebook..... what will happen? I m scared of loosing data or havign to do everything all over again!!!

D3UC3,
When you sync the information from the Info tab (contacts and calendar). Since it will be the first sync you will be asked if you want to merge or replace the data. If you choose replace you can choose whether to replace data on the iPhone or on the computer.
iTunes can transfer the purchased iTunes Store content from the iPhone if you authorize the new computer for your iTunes Store account. Other music, video, podcasts, etc won't be transferred.
If you have file sharing setup between the two machines, it might be preferable to just copy the iTunes folder in My Documents\My Music\ to the new computer. It will bring over your playlists, songs, and ratings.
Hope this helps,
Nathan C.

  • HT1386 i have gone through several pc units over time and when i try to sync up my iphone and ipad to my new computer is says it can not sync because i have the devices registered on too many computers. How do i fix that?

I have had several computers in recent years and when i try to sync my iphone and ipad to my new computer, it says it cant because the devices are registered on too many computers. I only need them synced up to two computers - how do i fix this?

In iTunes, under the "Store" menu, you can select "Deauthorize this computer". That will remove that computer from your iTunes account and free up a spot for the new computer.
If you have already sold or wiped your previous computers, you can log into your iTunes account from the Store menu in iTunes by selecting "View My Account xxxx@xxxx". Once you are logged in, about 1/4 the way down the page it will tell you that you have "xx computers are authorized......". Beside that you have the option to deauthorize all of the connected devices. That is the only option, you will have to deauthorize all and then set up the ones you want to use.
I think 10 is the maximum number of devices that can sync to one iTunes account.

  • I have a new computer and want to sync my Iphone and Ipad2 to the new computer, is there an easy way to do this?

I have a new computer and want to sync my Iphone and Ipad2 to the new computer (PC) instead of the old one, is there an easy way to do this?

    Syncing with new computer
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

  • I am trying to sync my iphone with itunes on a new computer, but  over 3 quarters of my music is missing.

I am trying to sync my iphone with itunes on a new computer, but over 3 quarters of my music is missing. It seems that only the songs downloaded on itunes in the last 6 - 9 months have transferred. How can I get the rest of it to sync?

You have posted to the iTunes Match forum, which your question does not appear to be related to. You will probably get better help by posting in the Using iPhone forum.

  • Reloading ipod and itunes on a new computer

I am trying to reload ipod and itunes on a new computer I recently bought. Because of disc management issues, I had these on an external drive (assigned the letter "F") on my old system. The letter "F" is assigned to a disc drive on my new computer. Every time I try to load ipod or itunes, the installer sequence tells me there is no available memory on drive F of the new machine (true enough), but will not let me re assign to a new drive.
suggestions on how to resolve this?
    many thanks. Bill

  • My iTunes got deleted off a (no longer working) computer. Is there a way I can transfer all content from my iPhone onto iTunes on a new computer? I want to update my phone, but do not want to lose any music off it when syncing it.

My iTunes got deleted off a (no longer working) computer. I have lost all music & data that was on this original itunes. Is there a way I can transfer all content from my iPhone (music & photos) onto iTunes on a new computer? I want to update my iphone (3GS), but do not want to lose any music off it when syncing it. Help please!!

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under iTunes>Preferences(under the edit menu if using Windows)>Devices in itunes.
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book & iCal or Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, DO NOT SYNC at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

  • Why can't I transfer music from my iphone to itunes on a new computer

I just installed itunes on a new computer but it will not let me transfer the songs on my iphone. I have already authorized the computer but it keeps asking me to do so.
    Thanks

You should transfer your library from your old computer to the new one.
If that is not possible then you should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Syncing iphone to itunes on a new computer

My laptop was stolen and I have a new one - which of course is not allowing me to sync my music library to.from my iphone
Is there any way deauthorize the previous computer that the phone is synced to.?  I know how to deauthorize the computer and authorize a new computer for purchased items.  But I need to figure out how to get my iphone to transfer to this new computer

The iPhone and iTunes are designed to sync music only one way, from the computer to the iPhone. If you are trying to copy music from the iPhone to the computer, it won't. If you have authorized the computer in iTunes with your Apple ID, you can transfer any purchases made with iTunes to the new computer. If you have a backup of your iTunes music library, you can copy that to the new computer.
You have found that if you connect the iPhone to the computer an attempt to sync, it is warning you that you will lose all data currently on the phone and replace it with what is on the computer. If you backup the phone before trying to sync, it will help, but you would not be able to sync data that is not contained in the backup. You will need to sync your calendar/contacts to a supported application on the computer before attempting to sync the phone. You can get those to move over from the phone if you put in a unique calendar appointment and contact that does not exist on the phone. It will then generate a "merge" prompt to merge the contacts on the computer and iPhone to merge. Otherwise, the new computer becomes the one you sync with once you sync it the first time.

  • Is it OK to copy and paste Aperture and iTunes libraries to new computer?

Well, yes, you can copy them over.  It's probably easier to use Migration Assistant though, as a lot depends on how the machines are connected, etc.

How can i transfer all my stuff to i tunes in my new computer?
(will all stuff be removed in my iphone if i just sync it with the new downloaded i tunes?)

No, as long as the iTunes ID you use is the same one as on your iPhone and your old computer.
But it goes without saying you should make a backup first.

  • Syncing iPhone onto iTunes on a New Computer

My old computer recently crashed and on the new one it obviously has none of my music etc. So im trying to allow my iPhone 4 to 'Manually manage music and videos' but when I click apply it says I must sync it, but this would loose all of my music and videos from my iPhone as there are no songs on iTunes? How can I either allow 'Manually manage music and videos' without it wiping my iPhone or sync my iPhone to my iTunes?
    Thanks,
    Tom.

The music/vid sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception being itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use this to put everything on the new computer.
If for some reason you have failed to do this ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from the iphone. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases

  • How to Backup iphone and restore onto a new computer?

I am currentely using a PC, on which my iphone is currentely backedup on. But i have recentely just purchased a MacBook Pro, how do I backup my iphone on my PC then restore it on my new MacBook?
Would be great if anyone could help!

Move your iTunes library & other data...contacts, calendars, photos, etc. from your PC to your MacBook Pro. Then, authorize iTunes on your Mac: iTunes>Store>Authorize this Computer. Under iTunes>Preferences>Devices, disable auto-sync. Connect your phone, right-click in the left device pane, select "Backup". When finished, right-click again & select "Restore from Backup". Select the backup you just made. When finished, sync your iTunes content back to your phone. You should be good to go.
Read here about copying your iTunes library & other data:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
If you don't want to do this yourself, make an appointment at an Apple store...bring both PC & Mac...the genius bar will do this for you.
