IPhone and .mac mail sync

I had to do a restore on my phone. I used to be able to have the phone NOT sync my message status and deleted messages update my .mac account. Now that I have done the restore. When I delete one on my iPhone it deletes right away on the Mac mail program. I don't remember what I did or didn't do so it would work that way before the restore.
Could someone help me with this please?
Thanks,
G B III

You're welcome.
With your iPhone connected, do you have your .Mac or MobileMe account selected below email accounts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences for the email account settings to be transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process?
If so, your .Mac or MobileMe account settings from the Mail.app on your Mac were transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, which created the account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's mail client.
If yes and you want to access your .Mac or MobileMe account as a POP account with the iPhone's mail client, you need to deselect this below email accounts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences. Follow this by deleting the account with the iPhone's mail client and manually recreate the account as a POP account. You need to select "Other" when creating the account. After entering what is required on the first screen, on the next screen you will select POP as the account type entering the required settings to access the account as a POP account with the iPhone's mail client.
After the account is recreated with the iPhone's mail client, be sure to check the account settings for removing messages from the server when downloaded. You want to select Never for removing messages from the server when downloaded by the iPhone's mail client, or any new messages received and downloaded by the iPhone's mail client will be removed from the server when downloaded and the new messages received by the iPhone's mail client will not be available when checking the account with the Mail.app on your Mac.
IMO, it is better to access the account as an IMAP account with both.

  • Downloading of emails via webmail, iPhone and Mac Mail

I currently access emails from my ISP via three avenues. I use webmail when I'm in the office, iPhone on the go and Mac Mail at home. However, I will end up seeing the same emails three times. Even after deleting unwanted emails from my webmail, they will still appear in iPhone and Mac Mail when I access emails and vice versa. Has this anything to do with the POP or IMAP settings? I have set my ISP email on iPhone and Mac Mail under POP. I have ever tried to change the POP to IMAP with same results.
    Any advice? Thanks.

I am having the same issue.

  • How do I get mail on my iPhone and Mac to sync automatically, so e.g. messages read on one appear read on both?

    Hello!
I use Gmail, and with either Google Sync or with a standard account set up, I'm not able to get my iPhone and MacBook Pro to sync mail automatically, so I end up having to read and delete emails twice.
There must be an easy way around that, that I'm stupidly unable to find, right?
    Thanks!

If you created as an Exchange account on the iPhone (not IMAP or POP) and you have Push on it should all work smoothly; Reading a message on either client should mark the other read (it does on mine). Try deleting the account from the phone, rebooting the phone (to clear out old settings), then go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar, add an account and tap Microsoft Exchange and add the account back.
There is a fundamental difference between BB and iPhone that you should be aware of; on the BB you do not sync directly with Exchange; you sync with the RIM server which then syncs with your Exchange server. The iPhone syncs directly with Exchange using Microsoft's ActiveSync protocol. So in some ways they will behave differently. But ActiveSync should manage marking messages as read correctly.

  • Cannot download blueyonder emails to both iPhone and Mac Mail

Up until very recently I was receiving blueyonder emails on both my Mac Mail app on my MacBook and on my iPhone.
Now the emails will only download to the device it hits first. So, if I receive emails on my iPhone overnight, they wont be received on my MacBook/Mac Mail app when I switch it on and vice versa.
It's a blueyonder (virgin media) email account using POP3.
Macbook is running Mac OS X 10.5.8
    Iphone 3G running 3.1.2
Any ideas what to do to receive the emails on both devices?

Hi I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. They have posted a solution on their website it's just hard to find!
All you have to do is in your phone mail settings you have to add "recent:" before your username (I've put it before address and description as well just incase)
    so for example:
    recent:[email protected]
here is the info from the website
How do I download mail to multiple POP email programs?
Important information for customers who download Virgin Media Mail using several email programs or on different computers or devices
To access your messages with multiple POP email programs, use recent mode in every client to make sure that all messages are made available, rather than only to the first client to access new mail. Recent mode fetches the last 30 days of mail, regardless of whether it's been sent to another POP client already.
To enable Recent mode, replace '[email protected]' in the Username field of your POP client settings with 'recent:[email protected]' and ensure that the Leave messages on server option in your POP client is enabled.
POP Download settings - keeping copies in your webmail inbox when you download messages to Outlook or other programs
By default, when messages are downloaded by Outlook Express or other email programs, Virgin Media Mail is set to keep Virgin Media Mail's copy in the Inbox. This means that we keep a copy in your webmail inbox so it can be accessed online via webmail, or by other email programs on different computers or mobile devices.
If you want to change this, you can go to Forwarding & POP/IMAP within Settings, and next to When messages are accessed with POP select one of these options in the drop-list:
    - archive Virgin Media Mail's copy
    - delete Virgin Media Mail's copy
If you chose to keep or archive Virgin Media Mail's copy, these messages will eventually fill up your mail quota, but remember that with Virgin Media Mail you do have lots of space.
Please note that some email programs may be set to delete your messages when they are downloaded, but the setting within Virgin Media Mail will override the options set in your email program.

  • Confliction errors with iPhone and Mac Mail

I am having constant issues with the iPhone causing my Mac Mail to dislay "The POP server *** rejected the password for user *******" dialog box when the iPhone and/or any of my computers try to pick up mail at the same time on the same accounts. The password and user name are correct. Has anyone found a setting to enable multiple computers and iPhone to collect mail from the same accounts without issue? Does this same issue happen with Entourage?

A POP account is not designed to be accessed by multiple email clients at the same time and the email client used makes no difference in this regard at the incoming mail server for the account.
This is usually not a problem with an IMAP account. I don't have this problem with my .Mac account - the Mail.app on my PB runs 24/7 checking my email accounts for new messages every 15 minutes. Since using the iPhone to access my .Mac account and a business POP account, the POP account on my PB is taken offline but not my .Mac account. I've accessed my .Mac account with both at the same time with no problems.
If you are unable to switch to an IMAP account, you will need to turn off having the POP account checked for new messages automatically by the Mail.app.

It goes to the mail setup screeen (yahoo, gmail, .mac, ect screen). Is this something I am doing or is there a way to stop this. • Use of Notes with iphone and Mac Mail

I create notes on my iphone 4.
They appear in my Mac Mail, Mac OS X 10.7.5
When I move the note from my inbox to a folder, it disappears.
    Any suggestions?

To get what you appear to want, you need to upgrade to 10.8 where notes is a separate application. If you decide to upgrade here is a list of supported computers:

  • IPhone and Mac Mail Issue

I recently got an iPhone 4 and I have had a Mac for a while. I love Apple's mail app and use it daily! I ran into a problem with my new iPhone though, the email accounts wouldn't "sync". I realize that this is because they are POP3 accounts. Does anyone have a step by step directions to import that email into a gmail, but have it act like the gmail wasn't there? (AKA It would import messages from Windstream thru gmail to my phone, and when I reply it goes back thru my windstream email. It would also "sync" the email account with the one of my Mac.) Thanks in advance!

Check the "Import your email and contacts from your old address" section of this "about gmail" article:

  • IPhone and Yahoo mail sync

    Hey everyone,
I'm just wondering if anyone is having this problem or knows an answer.
When you read, delete, move your email from Yahoo, does it update on your iPhone?
I swear mine used to update the iPhone almost immediately whenever a change was made on Yahoo but ever since Push email was broken and fixed, it doesn't update my iPhone any more. I have manually update my mailbox on the iPhone to get the update. Thanks

I'm having the same problem with my iPhone not knowing that I've read my mail on my Mac. Used to work perfectly but not anymore. My mail is "pushing" and I'm receiving them immediately on my iPhone, but the phone's not updating when I've read the mail on my Mac.

  • Using folders in Mail app on iPhone - Synching iPhone and Mac Mail app

I have a hotmail account and my iMac is set up to recieve that mail to the Mail app. In the Mail app I have organized all the emails I have recieved into different folders but I would like those same folders to show up on my iPhone so that when an email comes in I can drag it to the appropriate folder and it will be in that folder on my iPhone as well as on my iMac. Also if I delete a email on my iPhone I would like it to delete in my Mail app on my iMac.
Is this possible? if so, how do I do it?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

New emails should automatically get pushed onto your device; however if you have read your emails on a different computer or device it will still show as unread on your iphone.
follow the following steps make sure that they are right:
    Settings
    Mail Contacts Calendar
    Fetch new Data
    Ensure that “Push” is on
Ensure that “Every 15 Minutes” is selected
    Go down to advanced
Select the accounts outstanding and change them to “Push”

  • ICloud contacts on iPhone and Gmail not syncing to Mac

A friend has an iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1) and a Mac Book Pro (OSX Lion). He wanted the contacts from his Gmail account to appear on his iPhone. This was easy enough - I just added his Gmail account to his iPhone under Mail, Contacts Calendars.
The problem - we want all of these contacts to sync with his Mac. Both if the iPhone and Mac have iCloud enabled with the same account. Accounts are set to sync. However, the only contacts appearing on him Mac are the ones that were already there. It's not syncing all accounts from his iPhone.
    Any suggestions?

iCloud won't sync Gmail contacts, it will only sync iCloud contacts.  If he wants to use Gmail for contacts, he should add his Gmail account to his Mac too.  If all of the contacts on his phone are not appearing on his Mac after doing this, then some of them must not belong to the Gmail account and would need to be added to his Gmail contacts.
If he wants to use iCloud to sync his Gmail contacts instead, he can copy all of his contacts to iCloud as follows:
Go to Settings>iCloud on the phone, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup.  (If you have more than 500 contacts to transfer you will need the “Pro” version.)  Use the app to back up the remaining contacts on your phone (from Gmail and any other non-iCloud accounts) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars…tap Gmail and any other non-iCloud accounts and turn off contacts syncing with these accounts (otherwise you will see duplicate contacts on your device).
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the other accounts back to your device, and to iCloud.

  • Best e-mail server to use with iPhone and Mac?

I've always used hotmail as my e-mail server.  Recently, I've started using the Mail app on my MacBook Pro instead.  I really hate that the mail on my iPhone and the mail on my Mac do not sync with one another.  Any suggestions??

should I forward any emails I would like to keep to my gmail account or is there a faster way of doing this?

  • Upon syncing my iPhone and mac all of my ical and iPhone calendar events have duplicated. how can i fix this and avoid it in the future?

upon syncing my iPhone and mac all of my ical and iPhone calendar events have duplicated. how can i fix this and avoid it in the future?

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you backup your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427)?
--- If you don't regularly backup your computer, now is the time to start.
    4. Do you backup your iPhone (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766)?
Check the calendar list on the left hand side of iCal.  Is it that the individual events are duplicated or is it just that you have the same calendar listed more than once?  If its that you have more than 1 copy of each calendar, you can delete one of the duplicate calendars to eliminate the duplicates.
If you find that it is the individual events that are duplicated then there are 2 options:
    1. Restore your computer iCal database or iPhone from a backup made before the duplication occurred.
    2. Use a duplication removal program (or do it by hand) to remove the duplicates: http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icaldupedeleter/
If you have a backup made before the duplication occurred, reply back with what kind of backup you have and I'll suggest how to recover the calendars.
To avoid this issue in the future:
Keep regular backups.  They are your best defense against data anomalies which are a fact of life in computers (although hopefully rare).
Keep your computer and iPhone software fully up to date (Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update).
Make sure the date and time on your computer and iPhone are correct before you sync the two devices.
Make sure the cable connections between the two is solid and that the cable shows no signs of physical damage.
    Hope that information helps.

Wow, you didn't make a backup of your files first?
You shoudl have come here first for help before doing that.

All I can say is make sure you have the same account name on the computer like before, even if you have to create a new user under System Preferences>accounts, then log into your itunes account with that and try to reverse sync from the iPhone like you would normally.
Apple doesn't expect one to go backwards, so they are not all that friendly, you may have to ask around on MacRumors for third party software that can reverse sync from iOS devices.
    Good luck
