IPhone and now iTouch not automatically connecting

I just purchased the iPhone 3GS and tried to connect it to my MacBook and it doesn't automatically connect. I first thought it was the USB cord but I tried the cord from my iTouch which recently worked. That didn't work either so I tried to connect my iTouch and now that doesn't connect either. The cord works in my charger, but not to my computer. Why?

Try reinstalling iTunes (just download and run the installer, no need to delete anything first). If that fails, remove and reinstall AMDS:

If you want to solve your problems, unjailbreak. And don't do it again, because jailbreaking causes problems as you read about in that article. You can try Recovery Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

The iTunes logo on the phone means that it is in what's called recovery mode. Take a look at this article to find out more about recovery mode, and how to fix it:

I did an update to my wife's iPhone and now it won't connect through the 3G. It says you are not connected to a cellular data service

I Updated my wife's iPhone the other to the new operating system. It asked me first to use iCloud backup so I did. After the update was complete my wife can use wifi but when we try the 3G it says you are not connected to a cellular data service.
IT shows Bell as the provider but we seem to have lost something during this update.

Check Settings>General>Cellular and make sure Cellular Data is set to On. If it is, try putting it in Airplane mode for 15 seconds, then turn Airplane mode off again. If it persists, give you carrier a call to confirm that it's properly activated with them and that your data plan is properly provisioned.

I deleted my original apple id and made a new one with my new email address.
I updated my phone with the info but now cannot update any apps on my phone and I cannot download any new apps?

Ok...that kind of makes sense to me. I logged out and logged back in and am trying to update the apps that were downloaded under the old name.
Why is it not allowing me to download any new apps though under the new name?

If you have done the smart thing and backed up before your software upgrade then you have nothing to worry about.
If you didn't, well, that's a mistake you will hopefully learn from.

Sorry your post doesnt make sense. Do you mean you bought an iPhone from Apple directly?
Also you say it was free which seems to me it was a replacement.
It looks like the iPhone is more than likely locked to a carrier which would mean you need to contact the carrier to unlock the phone so that you can use any other carriers sim in the phone.

Occasionally my macbook, iphone, and ipad would not be connected to the internet at the same time. However, when they can connect, all three are connected at the same time. It is not my internet because my room mates computers are connected to the internet the whole time without any problems. When I can't connect, I can still see the network name on th wifi network search. However, when I click connect, the only message that pops up is can not join network.

Typically this indicates a device that has been hacked to be unlocked or jailbroken.

FYI: Damage like that is not covered by warranty, & all Apple will offer you is an out of warranty replacement...cost, in the US, for an iPhone 4, is US $149.

Have you tried resetting your phone (hold the power and home buttons down together until the silver apple appears)?

Then I'm at a loss. Mine has switched automatically from the start, favoring Wi-Fi, any of its registered networks, whenever available. Only thing I can think of is trying a Force Restart and see if that clears things up: hold down Home and Sleep till the screen goes black and a white Apple logo pops up. Release and allow it to restart.
May be similar, when I got the i5 about 16 months ago, the local carrier was starting to roll out 4G service. The phone would regularly lose all carrier connection, voice and data. Haphazardly would reconnect when it felt like it afterwards. Initially did the Off/On dance to speed things up, but discovered that using Airplane Mode would do the same without the lengthier power cycle. After awhile, the carrier 'fessed they were having capacity issues and later the problem went away. So yours too may also be a carrier issue.
