IPhone and Store Security Systems

Lately my phone has been setting off the security system (the shoplifting sensors at the entrance and exits)at many stores. Has anybody else been experiencing this problem and is there any known reason for this?

I wish the tags used in the store I used to work in were that light! We had giant ugly plastic things... anywho, it's not likely that something like that would physically be in the iPhone, as that would require the iPhone to be opened at the point of sale to remove said device, thus voiding the warranty before the end user's even paid for the thing. Good point though...
I know that these systems can sometimes be overly sensitive, or in some cases, if merchandise on the sales floor is displayed too near the sensors, they can be set off from the opposite, non-door-guarding sides. That's a real pain when customers are walking in and out.

  • IPhone 3GS and Store Security Alarms..

i've noticed that ONLY when I carry my iPhone 3GS I will set off the store alarm when entering or leaving a store.. I thought I was crazy, but i've done the test.. and ONLY when I walk through the door with the iPhone does it set off the alarm. without it im fine, and no problems... i'm starting to feel like a criminal every time I enter/leave a store and get pulled aside.. anyone else having this problem with their iPhone 3GS? i'm assuming it is because of the magnet inside the iphone's compass, but not sure if mine is an isolated case or not.. anyone else? or am I alone with this issue?

I received my new 3GS from Orange in the UK 5 days ago and went Christmas shopping yesterday - the phone set off the security alarms in three different stores. We ascertained it was the phone at the last store, where the store assistant took it through security herself. I've spoken to Apple 2nd level support today and they say this is a very rare but not unknown occurrence and will offer a swap-out if required.
Before confirming that this is what I'd like I agreed to do some more 'testing' at a fourth store today. The problem happens in all modes of operation: wi-fi on/off, bluetooth on/off, 3G on/off, Location services on/off. The only time it didn't trigger the alarm was with airplane mode set to ON. As this mode effectively kills all communication services I was not surprised at this.
Apple acknowledge that I shouldn't have to use such a workaround and should be able to enjoy all features of the phone, hence the offer to swap-out, which it looks like I will now be taking up (although I have given Apple 2nd tier support '3 days grace' to liaise further with their engineers).
If the replacement suffers from the same problem then there is clearly something more fundamental than a rogue phone, and I'll report back here.

  • Iphone (and Ipod) security option.

Although the look and feel of those nice objects is raising the perfection, may I suggest that a little hole could be made in the metallic part in order to optionnally screw a safety accessory to keep the phone in hand/in the pocket with a chain or attached to a necklace. If you remember the old Ericsson T39M, you have the figure!
What do you think? Could'nt it be useful to avoid some theft of this very tempting object?!
    regards,
    Claude

Are you suggesting that users drill a hole in their hand in order to chain the iPhone to it?
As much as no one wants to loose their iPhone, I don't think that chaining it to a hole in one's hand is the best solution.

Try appleid.apple.com and try changing your password. Worked for me.

  • How do I port forward or open a port on the Airport time capsule to hook p a security system?

I have an airport time capsule and a security system.  The installer doesn't know anything about using routers etc, especially on a mac.  They say I have to port forward or open a port specifically of this device.  I have very few skills when doing this IT type.  Is this hard to do?  Can I do it myself?  He wants to get an IT guy out?  $55 an hour, how long would it take?  Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

    The method is here.
AirPort - Port Mapping Basics using AirPort Utility v6.x
If you need to get someone in, it depends.. The TC can be recalcitrant.. due to your setup of it following the apple guides.. and it depends on the security system and how simple that is.
There are multiple issues.. for example how do you find your IP address from the web when you have dynamic IP from your ISP.
Do you intend to setup dynamic DNS? Can the camera /dvr system handle Dynamic DNS?
I recommend you read very carefully the instructions for what has been installed.. because merely opening the port is only a small part of the issues involved in remote access to the security system.

  • Amcrest security systems.  Iphone6 will not link using pnp. Iphone 4 and 5 both work. Whats the difference?

i have an Amcrest security system. It has a live view feature using PNP. I have successfully connected with an Iphone 4&5 no problems.  NOT THE IPHONE6, THE LATEST AND GREATEST. What is the freaking difference?

Have you ever tried to get an answer from them? Why would I need to contact them, their stuff works as it should with the Iphone 4 & 5.  Apple changed something.  I will email them tomorrow and see what they say.  Hopefully they are not like apple and I won't have to make an appointment to see them three days from now in their one store in a city of 1 million people.

  • HT203163 I am not able to access to iphone updates/store; as secure link to itunes store failed. I tried to turn firewall off, reinstall itunes and other troubleshoot options but none of them works.....

I am not able to access to iphone updates/store; it displays the message under diagnostics 'secure link to itunes store failed'.
I tried to turn firewall off, reinstall itunes and other troubleshoot options but none of them works......
    Please help.

Update:  I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure?

  • After updating my iPhone 4s to iOS 6.1, Verification Failed: An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made. My wifi connection works; the icon is present at the top left. But Internet won't connect, be it Safari, App Store

  • How come the same apps that are available for my iPhone and my iPad are not the same as the apps in the app store on my mac

I want some of the same apps available on my iphone and ipad2 to be available on my macbook pro app store and to be able to link them through icloud. Is this not possible? If not, why not?

The Mac uses Mac OS X and iDevices use iOS. These are two different operating systems and the apps must be written for each operating system specifically, even when the apps go by the same name, such as the iWork apps, they are two ifferent versions of the same app for the two different platforms.
So, as an example, Safari has been written for three different operating systems, Mac OS X, iOS and Windows. And the Safari apps, as similar as they are visually, are not interchangeable for the different platforms.

  • Can not open iCloud on MBP? Want to PhotoShare. Set up in iPhone.   Go to System Preferences, click on iCloud, get the message "move to iCloud", sign in, click on open iCloud", sign in again, and get only FindmyPhone?

Set up in iPhone.   Go to System Preferences, click on iCloud, get the message "move to iCloud", sign in, click on open iCloud", sign in again, and get only FindmyPhone? Thus, when I go to Iphoto to set up photo sharing, it says I have to have icloud account-go to sys preferences--then i go through the loop again?  Suggestions?

You're not going to be able to: you can't merge accounts or transfer iTunes purchases from one Apple ID to another: but there is no problem about using two IDs.
Use your ex-MobileMe email address (which is also an Apple ID) for iCloud for syncing email, contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and PhotoStream.
Use your other Apple ID as before for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match.
There's no conflict about doing this, and you won't even notice as Keychain will log you in with the correct ID in each case. It's also better security not to have your iTunes login also your email address, given the number of complaints about hacked iTunes accounts.
