IPhone & Aperture for photos?

Can the iPhone sync to photos in Aperture?

I'm not sure if anyone has responded to this or not but I noticed this when I first synced Aperture with my iPhone and saw that the versions I wanted didn't get copied.
What I'm doing now to get around this is to create album for the iPhone photos in Aperture. When you drag photos to the album it will sync the stack pick or master with the iPhone. But if you prefer it to sync a different photo in the stack then go up to the Stacks menu and select Set Album Pick for the selection you want. Then it will sync that Pick from the stack instead. Album Picks only affect that one album and does not affect your stacks in the main library or other albums. You can have different Album Picks for the same stack in different albums. There will be a check mark in the corner of the thumbnail if it is the album pick.
Hope that helps! I'm just glad I can use Aperture with the iPhone because I no longer use iPhoto.
All the best,
-Kevin
Me too - unfortunately it picks up the master files,
and not the latest versions (with all my edits).
That's fine, I guess, as long as you don't want to
sync with any post-processed files.

  • I'm using Aperture for photos on my Mac, I have near 450G of raw photos and I'm running short on space, what is the best option to imrpove proformance and increase space.?

I use Aperture on my Mac and have approx 450Gigs of raw files for my photos and growing. I'm running short on space and system is starting to slow down. What are the best ooptions to improve performance and increase space space.?

important to note that what you are talking about is not a backup
It is simple to ahve your iPhoto library on an external drive -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
And you can have multiple i{Photo libraries - one can be on your internal drive and other on an external drive  --  iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  is a very helpful tool for managing multiple libraries

  • Under iTunes Summary, it shows my iPhone capacity for photos double the size it should be

When I last synced, the space shown taken up by photos doubled.
It nows says I have 92 photos (7.7GB).  I had just synced about 10 minutes before and it showed then only 46 photos (3.82GB).  When I now check via file manager, it still shows  46 photos (3.82GB), and if I view the photos directly via iPhone camera roll.. it still indicates there is only 46 photos.
The things I had done just before was to upgrade the iPhone to the latest version, and then I had just ticked, then unticked the manually manage video & music on itunes.. so not sure if either of those actions casued the problem.
So what could have happend to make the photos take up twice the space.  I would like to get it back, as I am now running out of space!!
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

A re-sync of the device should clear up the issue.
If not, try reseting or restarting the device, these will not affect the data on the device.
I doubt any issue actually exists, it is more likely just a misreporting of the information from the device.

  • Aperture app for photos on iPhone instead of iPhoto app

I recently got Aperture and have been converting iPhoto pictures over to Aperture.
I have the iPhoto app (standard with the iPhone) with a few 100 pictures.
I thought that I could add an App for Aperture to the iPhone for the pictures but cannot find it in the app store in iTunes.
I have no problem continuing iPhoto as an app for the phone, but think it would be easier.
So the question is : is there an iPhone app for Aperture that allows the viewing of the photos thru the iPhone as can be done by the iPhoto app ?
    I have the iPhone 3, ISO 4
I am planning on getting the next generation iPhone (5 ?) if that is the issue then obviously I will wait and continue with iPhone.
    Greg

The Photos app on the iPhone is not specific to iPhoto. It will also show photos from Aperture.
Connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes and select it from the Devices list. Then click the Photos tab at the top. There's a popup menu "Sync photos from". This is where you decide whether you want photos from iPhoto or Aperture on your iPhone. Don't forget to sync if you change the setting.
Using this automatic syncing you can only have it sync to one application at a time. However, if you want photos from both, you can instead choose to sync from a folder using the same popup menu. Just export the photos you want on your phone from both iPhoto and Aperture into this folder. The upside is you have complete control over what gets synced. The downside is it is a totally manual process.

  • IPhone Videos and Photos not available for download

I've been using FCP X for a good while now, Aperture, and my iPhone. We're a good team for a serious hobbiest (<--is that even a word?).
I did this morning what I normally do about once a month. Hook up my iPhone 5s to my MBP, fire up FCPX, click import and...
no videos to download? My phone is now full of pictures and videos.
I verified "All clips" are selected and that the "hide imported clips" is UNselected. Should show all my iPhone video and photo content. Always has in the past. Instead, today, I get a total of 27 photos/videos combined. Truthfully, my iPhone indicates 48 videos and over 2,000 pics.
So, knowing my mac a bit, I fire up Image Capture. I'll force this booger to do a manual download to my desktop, then I'll upload to FCPX. Same 27 photo/video combo shows on Image capture.
I restart my computer and my phone. No change.
How is it I have a full phone (only 3gb left of room), jam packed with photos and video, yet I can only "see" 27 of them on my computer but all of them on my iPhone.
Why can't I seem to "see" them and have them available for download? This coincides with the most recent update (since I've performed a download).
Any ideas on how to get my videos off my phone? Aperture is still doing the iCloud skim over fine, so I have all my photos now in Aperture Photostream files.
    Thanks

    As a continuation...
I've done a few pics today and a couple of videos on my iPhone. They are not showing up on image capture or FCPX now. Nothing is showing up, it is as if I have a blank iPhone.
Any ideas how to get my iPhone and mac to play nice?
Pics still skimming over iCloud to Aperture though, which is good.

  • Can I make a new iTunes account for my iPhone without losing photos?

For the past four years, my sister and I have shared an iTunes account, as we were younger then and so liked roughly the same music.    In April 2014, I bought myself an iPhone 5s, and connected it to our usual, joined Apple ID.  Now though, we have very different tastes in music, and whenever one of us downloads songs they all get synced onto both of our phones.  For Christmas, I was given a laptop, and have been thinking about simply making my own iTunes Apple ID, to give myself a completely separate account.  What will happen to my existing songs and photos when I sync my phone to the new account?  I am willing to re-download all my songs as it would make it easier for me in the future, but I'm worried about losing all my photos as I don't have a camera and my phone has many photos that are important to me on it.  If I back up my phone on my old account, and then use it on my new account, what will happen to my photos and songs? Please help, many thanks in advance!

you can connect the iPhone to your mac and import those iPhone photos and videos to iPhoto assuming you have iPhoto. You can create a folder and export all those photos to the Finder. Keep safe somewhere.  Also keep the iPhoto library for safe keeping. When you restore your iPhone you can sync all those photos back to the iPhone. so you will lose nothing. Just remember when you export from iPhoto select jpeg for photos and original for videos taken with the iPhone.

  • HT201269 I am trying to save memory on my iPhone 4S/ ios6. Can I back up all photos to icloud and the external hard disk I normally use for photos? If I then delete photos from the iPhone do the get deleted on iCloud?

I am trying to save memory on my iPhone 4S/ ios6.
    1) Can I back up all photos to icloud and the external hard disk I normally use for photos? If I then delete photos from the iPhone do the get deleted on iCloud?
    2) Can I back up the newsstand to iCloud and save memory on the iPhone?
    3) Can I back up the bookshelf to icloud and save memory on the iPhone?

    1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
    2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • I received an Iphone 5 as a gift two days ago. The first thing I did was set up ICloud for photos. Itunes would not allow me to add songs to my new phone without restoring it, yet when I did this, it deleted all photos. And I cannot find them anywhere.

I received an Iphone 5 as a gift two days ago. The first thing I did was set up ICloud for photos. Itunes would not allow me to add songs to my new phone without restoring it, yet when I did this, it deleted all 129 photos of my graduation and friends from the past two days. And I cannot find them anywhere, photo stream, ICloud, nothing. Where can I get back my memories?

Were the photos taken by your new iPhone?  If so, did you not import them off your phone to your computer (as you would any other digital camera) before the restore?  If not, restoring wiped the data off the phone and your pictures are gone.
Sounds like a good time to (re)read the User Guide.

  • My iPhone 4s keeps showing more space being used for photos than i have - i have deleted cache folders, unselect and reselect in iTunes and nothing appears to work my iPhone still shows 6.5 gig use of photos when i only have the  camera roll listed

my iPhone 4s keeps showing more space being used for photos than i have -
i have deleted cache folders, unselect and reselect in iTunes I read one post
where they said keep syncing and in a couple days it would correct itself, that
hasnt happened.  I have see others have the same issue but no solution and nothing
appears to work my iPhone still shows 6.5 gig use of photos when i only have the camera roll listed

i thought the photo stream only holds 1000 i usuaaly take each month and save them to iphoto but if thats the my ipad should say the same amount and it doesnt - it shows 2.5 gig which is correct for iphoto.  and i havent ever had that much but if for some reason icloud has that much saved how do i delete and again if it does why doesnt ipad show that amount _ HELP!

  • How do I get the music back on my iPhone after manually deleting it from the device (to get space for photos/videos)?

How do I get the music back on my iPhone after manually deleting it from the device (to get space for photos/videos)?  I can sync with iTunes but it doesn't copy these songs back, even though they still appear in my iTunes library.  I can click on the Music link  under 'On My Device' in iTunes and the missing songs all appear to still be on the device, but they are not.  I normally delete using iTunes and do not have this issue.  This time I was out and needed more space to shoot photos and videos so I removed a lot of music from my phone through the Music App.

The songs I'm trying to reload on my phone are on my PC.  These we had loaded into iTunes.  I can remove them all from the library and then add them all back one by one I imagine.  The problem I'm having is that I removed them manually from the phone, they still appear in iTunes music library yet they won't sync.  I don't want to take the time to compare the phone to my library, remove from the library what's missing on the phone and then add them all back again.  64GB (mostly music) will take a while.

  • Photos app vs Aperture, for adepts?

    Hi guys,
Are all Aperture adjustment tools available to a semi-adept like myself who migrates to the Photos app? Can I adjust my images in Photos to the same level of precision and have as many options (and stay within the Apple universe), or do I have to look elsewhere, like Lightroom? I need high-end software.
I'm offered a Beta version, but not sure whether it's for me. BTW, I have just installed Yosemite and am keeping my fingers crossed.
    Thanks,
    Raphael

    Hi Raphael,
With the _coming_ demise of Aperture, users are either:
    - staying with Aperture for a bit: it works well; migrating the database is, _at best_, tricky, incomplete, and inefficient; Aperture will continue to work well under Yosemite for as long as you have a Mac running Yosemite, or
    - using another program/programs for the digital asset management and digital camera image editing that they used to do in Aperture.
Those who are moving are either:
    - putting only or mostly new/recent digital camera files into another program(s), and developing a workflow with the other program(s), or
    - porting all of their Originals, all of their adjusted Versions, and as much of the database as possible into another program.
The other programs that are most often mentioned as being useful to Aperture users are:
    - Adobe's Lightroom.  Functional overlap with Aperture is nearly 100%.  Widely used.  More support and resources than you can use.  Aperture users general don't like being constrained by a modal interface, and don't like the actual interface.
    - Capture One Pro.  Functions similar to Aperture.  Well-liked by those who use it.  Strong editing tools.  Less strong digital asset management tools.  Very much smaller installed user base.  Imho, a more Aperture-like experience than LR.
    - Apple Photos for OS X.  Properly understood as the successor program to iPhoto (it is _not_ a successor to Aperture).  The design emphasis is on ease of use.  Adequate editing tools.  Strong but non-customizable digital asset management tools.
All three feature non-destructive workflows (your digital camera files are never over-written).  All of them — like Aperture — store _the information needed to create new files_, rather than new files themselves.

If I am to switch, I would like to switch to a software that is elegantly thought out, that offers at least as much control as Aperture does, and that is widely supported and understood; and that has a forum like this one with competent people responding.
    An excellent list.  Imho:
    - LR is the least elegant of the three.
    - LR and C1Pro offer as much editing control as Aperture.  Neither offers as much digital asset management options/utility.
    - All are (or will be) well supported.  LR is much more used and discussed, and has many more supporting materials available, than any of the others.
    - This forum provided — not just my opinion, and something I'm proud of — a rare combination of quick response, high-quality content, and little chaff.  There are (afaik) good forums for both LR and for C1Pro.

  • Been using g iPhone 6 for few months, just backed up my iPhone 5, restored my pics etc onto 6 but all original photos have been deleted?

Been using g iPhone 6 for few months, just backed up my iPhone 5, restored my pics etc onto 6 but all original photos have been deleted, Is there a way I can get them back?

If you are backing up to your computer, check in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, if there is more than your recent iPhone 6 backup listed. If yes, transfer the photos from your phone to the computer first, then restore from the backup. After that, transfer the recovered photos again to your computer and sync all of the transferred pictures to your phone, using iTunes and the settings in the photo pane.

  • Changing Apple ID in iPhone for Photo Stream

How can I change my Apple ID in my iPhone for everything.. Not just for iTunes. When I use my iPhone anything related to Photo Stream it asks me with my old Apple ID. I've changed it and it worked for everything except for Photo stream

If the old ID ("user name") is an earlier version of your current ID, temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
