[iPhone] App bundle compression after App Store submission observations

Hi,
My recently submitted, accepted and published game turned out to be 10.3MB on the App Store. This cheesed me off a bit since the bundle I uploaded was only 9.9MB and it was a stretch to bring it under the 10MB OTA download size limit!
After some more pruning I uploaded an updated version at 9.5MB, but it still shows up on iTunes as 10.3MB.
I've looked at the App Store IPA package and the additions are the iTunesArtwork file (70k), iTunesMetadata.plist (2k), files in the new SC_Info folder (12k) and the updated CodeResources file (9k). All this amounts to less than 100k extra, which was about what I expected, however, the rub is the application binary file. My binary is big at 2MB, but in the compressed zip file I uploaded it compresses to just under 700k. In the App Store IPA, it's only compressed to 1.4MB. The uncompressed file size has increased by 64 bytes, and the actual file data has changed considerable by the looks of it, causing the much less efficient compression.
Recompressing the App Store bundle with the Mac 'Compress' file option results in the same large size, so it's not a different compression technique used on the iTunes server. It must be a result of processing the binary file. Does anyone know what processing takes place? I assumed it would be just checks for API calls and such. I've attempted to look for differences in the binaries using 'otool', but I hit the limits of my knowledge here!
