Iphone app names
Is it possible to reserve app names at the app store before actually submitting the apps?
.. or do you just submit the name along with the app. Thanks in advance
If you 'stage' your app by doing a minimum 'add' before the binary is uploaded, that name cannot be re-used by anyone. Of course all it takes is a slight name variation to get around such a tactic.
You need to add a new app and upload at least the large 512 X 512 icon and main preview image. You are also expected to commit to a set of keywords and of course the app name, along with encryption declaration and rating. You will be expected to set the release date and pricing, etc. but those can be changed later.

How can i change the name on the phones in the find my iphone app

Change the device names in Settings –> General –> About –> Name on each device to what you want

if you have the 4s and you buy the iwork...later when you change your phone to 5 with the same app name and code the iwork still free to download into your new phone???
Yes as long as you use the same Apple ID for iTunes that you used to download the app originally.

IPhone Apps won't sync to iTunes.
I need all my apps to sync to my iTunes for a complete backup. All the new apps I've purchased on my phone in the last few months do not show up on the apps tab in iTunes. I've hit the Sync button as well as Transfer Purchases. Each time the apps are said to be "copying" in iTunes but never actually transfer or appear in the apps tab. They're in the preview on the right, just not in the list on the left.

I had the same trouble with the iPhone 3GS and had to re-download all my purchased apps when I upgraded to iPhone 4 because the backup I used to startup the 4 seemed to be incomplete.
It's as if iTunes won't update the backup file. It's stuck on a backup from a year or so ago.
Any ideas?I'm also having this issue. There is no media folder with any apps files in my iTunes folder on my PC and so i can see all the apps in my library but they are all gray and have a "!" next to the app name because iTunes (nor myself) can't locate them.

The iPhone "My Name here" could not be synced because the iPhone could not be found on the network. that is a pop up box in middle of screen that says that it does it like every time I go to sync the phone after i do app updates. I am getting very frustrated by this can someone please help. I have made 2 other discussion topics about this and no replies on them. Please if anyone can help I ask for help. This has occurred ever since the iOS 5.1 update and the iTunes 10.6.0 and still continues with the iTunes 10.6.1 update just yesterday and perhaps even worse now. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN. I have looked through my network settings etc and everything looks good here on my side.

just as long as you can sign into your icloud using the findmyphone application then it will be registered under your name.

Hello, someone stole my sons IPhone today in his gym class. I have the "find my iphone app" on my phone BUT he is not a listed device. I went into his itunes account and downloaded the "find my iphone app" app under his account. When I try to log into "find my iphone" under his name on my device I get an error msg involving icloud......he is MUCH better at this stuff then I am BUT he is in school and now I need to figure out how to use the "find my iphone app". PLEASE HELP
It doesn't matter whick account you use to download the app.
You have to sign into the app (or iCloud.com from a web browser on your computer) with his Apple ID & password.
Find My iPhone will only work if it was enabled in the iCloud settings on the device and it was powered on with a connection to the internet -

Can the Find iPhone app find devices that aren't mine?
So my MacBook Pro was stolen a couple weeks ago out of my rental car while I was in Seattle, WA. I had iCloud on it synced with my iPhone, but never used it or saved anything to it. Someone told me that I could find my stolen computer though iCloud, but when I read up on it it I was under the impression it would only track other devices from a computer, not the other way around. Anywho, I bought a brand new MacBook Pro today and setup iCloud on it. i then downloaded the Find iPhone app for my phone and two MacBook Pros appeared as my devices. My brand new one named "Jeff's MacBook Pro", and the other under somone elses name. A location was given for mine and I was able to lock it and send messages from my phone. The other one could not be located and the messages are still pending to be sent. Is it possible that my MacBook Pro appeared since I still have it registered under my name on apple.com or could this just be someone elses?

Some macs will continue to be tracked even after Find my phone has been disabled, but it has to be turned on first

How do I put a space in my App Name? Portal App Loader won't let me!
When I Put a space in my product name (Example: 'Cool App'), it builds just fine and shows up on my DEV iphone with the space.
However, when I try to release it that way to Apple, the Application Loader in Portal complains that no spaces are allowed. I tried to just rename my file, but that didn't seem to work. So I was forced to release it as 'CoolApp'
I know I have seen users out there with spaces in their app names, just wondering if there are various settings in my Project settings I need to update.So, if I set my PRODUCT NAME in the project properties to "Cool App", then should I manually change the following settings in my Info.plist to delete the space:
Bundle display name: currently set at ${PRODUCT_NAME}
Bundle indentifier: currently set at ${com.companyname.${PRODUCT_NAME:identifier}
Bundle name: currently set at ${PRODUCT_NAME}
Based on what you said, then my product name is automatically being set with spaces when copied to the Bundle display name, identifier and bundle name, which is probably causing the error I suppose. -
Anyone can share the sales figures of your Apps? How many copy can you sell per day? You don't need to tell the App name and the category, just the sales figures is okay.
Since I heard that most of the Apps only get < 10 sales per day, and most of them are selling $0.99 per copy, so this seems to be not so profitable. I started to think that should I invest even more time and money onto this game. Yes, I am not considering this as a hobby, I want to develop a rather professional app, right now I am worrying about it.

I have 5 For Sale iPhone apps in the AppStore. Now my apps are more expensive than 0.99 cents but its because they have a limited audience. For example my one application EventGhost has a very limited customer base. It has to be someone who owns an iPod touch or an iPhone AND uses EventGhost on their PC. That narrows you down pretty quickly. So you can't charge 99 cents for something you think only about 300-500 people are going to download because its just not worth your time to make 300$ USD. So you have to charge according to your customer base.
Of my 5 in production apps I am seeing about 20 sales a day. So that's about 4 copies per app per day, but not really. Some days I sell 0 copies of 3 apps but 10 copies of 2 apps and some days I sell 1 of this, 2 of that 6 of that etc. But overall its about 20 total a day.

IPhone app that allows cable transfer of files and viewer feature
Hi Guys,
Now I'm really getting desperate...
Does anyone know of an app that allows you to transfer files to your iPhone via the USB cable and has a partner iphone app that allows you to view the files.
I'm looking specifically for PDF and Html viewer.
I can't use the WiFi and can't download using 3G...too expensive.
I've tried a few apps thus far but they allow you transfer files to locations that the iphone apps cannot access.

NeelanThere used to be an app that did this called "FileAid". The app was free, but to use it you need to purchase an app called "DiscAid" from the developer. It allowed for file transfers between iPhone and computer using a USB cable or wifi. Recently, the app was changed AT APPLE'S REQUEST to eliminate the USB functionality. Why? I have no clue, other than having this feature took away from Apple's MobileMe file transfer functionality. I did NOT accept the upgrade. Below is an email I received from the developer.
What really irks me is that I paid for the DiscAid app. By removing this functionality, Apple has ripped me off. Fortunately, the developer has more integrity than Apple has.
"As a DiskAid user, you might be using FileAid to view files on your device.
If this is your case you are maybe aware already: we had to upgrade FileAid 1.4 to 1.5 and we changed the name to FileApp, incidentally.
The USB connectivity within FileApp was removed and we did not want that: it was not our choice but the consequence of a decision taken by Apple, nor did we wanted to have to rush to release it.
Besides, all iPhone Apps supporting the USB file transfer will be affected by that.
We were very upset about Apple's decision not to let our users enjoy the simplicity and efficiency of USB file transfer, but we had no choice as you can imagine. We are very sorry about that.
DiskAid (USB transfer tool) is still perfectly functional for file storing and iPhone/iPod Touch filesystem access but FileApp won't let you view your files on the device.
It is probably pretty uncommon, but we would like you NOT to UPGRADE to FileApp in the App Store automatically, but to read the following carefully before:
Why Should you Upgrade:
If you have a jailbreak on your device
If you are a FileAid user only using WiFi connection for transferring files - WiFi connectivity issue fixed
Why You Should NOT Upgrade:
If you are using FileAid on a device without jailbreak in conjunction with DiskAid - USB no longer supported
If you have upgraded on your iPhone by mistake (or you missed the upgrade information notice prior upgrading on your iPhone) you have the ability to downgrade to FileAid if you haven't upgraded within iTunes on your desktop and you haven't performed a sync!
To do so:
1 - Check that you have FileAid in your iPhone apps within iTunes on your computer
2 - Delete the FileApp app from your iPhone (or iPod Touch)
3 - Select FileAid within the app tab in iTunes and press sync
If a message appears warning that you have a more recent version of this app on the device, accept: it will install FileAid instead of FileApp
If you have upgraded to FileApp directly in iTunes on your computer, delete it before sync (if applicable) and the FileAid app will be copied back onto iTunes at next sync.
It is a real issue for us, as the ability to browse files transferred via USB within our iPhone app FileAid was a great feature within the DiskAid program we will sure suffer from that - but we won't let our loyal customers take the blame.
We would naturally refund users that claim for, even beyond our refund policy (up to 60 days).
Also if you had a good time while the trick lasted, or if you feel any sympathy for us and you think that your purchase could subsidize the development and maintenance of the free version of the FileAid/FileApp and you do not request a refund, we would thank you in advance for your support!" -

i Have iphone5,itouch and ipad2 under my name but my id for the said gadget is my previous IF which is unable now cos i forgot the password so i decided to buy and create a new id.. But when i tried to open the find my iphone app its asking for icloud id which is already unable.

What you mean by 'buy and create a new id', it's free to create iTunes accounts. But until you've logged out of your existing account, you won't be able to log into a new account. -

I went to the app store via my phone and noticed something a little different today compared to a few days ago, and am wondering if Apple made a change
I went to download a free app that I previously had on my phone, but had removed.
I went to get the app this way on my iPhone
App Store>Search> then I typed in the name of the app> Then selected it
In the past (and I mean lake 3-4 days ago) when I would go to get an app that I had previously, when the app would come up instaed of saying Free or some $ price, it woul just say install.
BUT TODAY I notice that since it is an app I had before it does not say install but instead shows that little cloud thing. I do not use iCloud
THIS is the change I mean. Because 2 days ago the same app I went to reinstall said install and did NOT have this cloud thingy.
And I am not talking about restoring apps via update>purchase
SO AGAIN MY QUESTION IS in the last day or two, DID THE iPhone APP Store change how they show previously installed app?
I went to the local apple store and asked if there was a chaneg in the last 2 days, and they had no freaking ideaI do know that in the past if I tried to get previously downloaded apps in the following method:
App Store>Updates>Purchased
The previously purchased but currently deleted app would have the clould thing. But not as I said if I went this route
App Store>Search> then I typed in the name of the app> Then selected it
So that makes me wonder did the app store change thing so that previously downloaded but deleted apps would appear the same way with the little cloud thing?
