  • For iOS the ipad version shows the folio that has been published, but the iPhone app is not.

I am responsible for handling the apps and not at all involved with or know how the folio creation process works.
When I build the app for iOS the iPad version shows the folio that has been published, but the iPhone app is not showing the folio.
Is this something related to the build process or how the folio was created?
The folio also shows up in the Android app (at least the phone I have tested with).
    Thanks,

"Android and iOS viewers have different requirements for displaying folios. Any folio size you create can appear in an Android viewer. The articles are scaled and letterboxed as needed. However, on the iPad, the viewer displays only folios with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The iPhone viewer displays only folios with a 3:2 or 16:9 (1136x640) aspect ratio."

  • I have created an iPhone app using xCode and am now ready to publish it. Do I have to sign up to the $99/yr program in order to get a certificate?

I have created an iPhone app using xCode and am now ready to publish it. Do I have to sign up to the $99/yr program in order to get a certificate? I keep getting the error message: CodeSign Error: code signing is required...although the app tests fine on the simulator. Does this mean that I need to pay the $99 to create the app or do you only need to pay if you want it published on iTunes?
Any advice will be gratefully received.

  • Trying to create first iPhone app, use Interface Builder or Xcode first?

I'm trying to create my first iPhone App, do I start with Interface Builder or Xcode first? And how do I link the two together?

It's not really that simple -- you'll be working with both. Interface Builder is used to design the GUI (graphical user interface, which consists of the windows and buttons and text fields and so forth, the parts of the application that your user interacts with). Xcode, on the other hand, is used to write the code that tells that GUI what it's supposed to do, and how to do it. So, to answer your question as best I can -- generally, I would imagine you would want to start by creating the basic form of your GUI in Interface Builder and then start coding where appropriate in Xcode, then you'll move back and forth between the two (Xcode and Interface Builder) as needed.
If you're new to programming and want to start with iPhone apps, I recommend picking up a book on the topic (Apress publishing has a book called "Beginning iPhone 3 Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK" that is a good one, and don't forget to take advantage of Apple's iOS Dev Center, which has lots of good documentation on most any topic that will be helpful in supplementing the information in the book you buy -- click [here|http://developer.apple.com/iphone/index.action] to go there).
Keep in mind, however, that trying to learn to program iPhone apps will be difficult (to say the least) if you don't already know Objective-C, and the Apress book I recommended above will not be easy to follow without understanding Objective-C first. Objective-C an object-oriented extension of C, and it is the programming language that is used to develop iOS apps (apps for the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad). I would definitely recommend learning Objective-C on the Mac before jumping in to iPhone development in specific. Apress has another book called "Learn Objective-C on the Mac" that I would recommend for this.
Furthermore, since Objective-C is an extension of C, you won't have an easy time learning it without a prior understanding of the C programming language. Again, Apress has a book for this, called "Learn C on the Mac."
Put simply, learning to program for the iPhone is not something that comes overnight -- it's a step-by-step process that takes patience, and you have to be willing to go through these steps if you want to learn to program properly for the iPhone.
Step 1 -- learn the C programming language
Step 2 -- learn the Objective-C programming language
Step 3 -- apply your knowledge to developing for iOS (iPhone's operating system) with the Cocoa Touch framework
Anyways, that's just my advice -- I definitely recommend taking the time to do it right and not jumping straight into the deep end, but in the end only you know what works best for you. Also, like I said, I definitely think investing in a book on the subject is worth the time and money, so let me know if you want any other recommendations for books beyond the ones listed above.
Hope this was helpful to you, and best of luck with your journey toward programming for iOS.

  • IPhone App Crystal Reports Parameters

    Hi,
Is there a way to publish Crystal Reports with parameters on the iPhone App.  I can only publish reports with no parameters.  If I try to publish one with parameters, it fails to display.

  • IPhone app suspended on screen lock

If this is the wrong forum for such a question, please let me know!
I've developed an iPhone app with Flash CS5 that polls certain things every few seconds. It's working as expected, except when the iPhone screen locks (by itself due to inactivity, not when a user presses the lock hardware button on the top of the phone).
Other applications I've seen are able to continue their polling or activity after the screen is locked, but mine appears to stop completely until the screen is unlocked. It resumes correctly after the screen is unlocked.
What do I need to do (either in the Actionscript or perhaps a publish setting?) to allow the app to keep polling when the screen is locked?

And so what happens when you actually connect your phone to your computer via USB like the logo indicates?

  • Captivate 5.5 to Android and/or iPhone App

Can someone please tell me of any tutorials about how to get an App to Android/iPhone via Captivate 5.5? I don't know the first thing about apps, at the moment, but often use Captivate to make nice applications etc. I would essentially like to know how can I design something in Captivate and then transform it into an app which I can then advertise as such for Android/iPhone users to download.
    Your help is much appreciated!
    Paul.

By coincidence I just saw a post on this in the LinkedIn Captivate forum:
    http://www.linkedin.com/groupAnswers?viewQuestionAndAnswers=&discussionID=59420012&gid=683 507&readyToAnswer=true&trk=disc_comment
Michael Hinze has started a discussion: Deploying Captivate demos on Android Devices
"After the recent discussion about converting Captivate demos to iPad/iPhone apps, I wondered if it is possible to deploy Captivate demos on Android devices as well. Android-powered phones and tablets are rapidly becoming more popular. After some research and testing, I succeeded in installing a Captivate demo on my Samsung Galaxy II Android phone. The conversion process is not very intuitive and required the use of Adobe’s AIR application (included with Flash CS5 and 5.5), but does allow you to convert a Captivate file to an Android app. The basic steps of the conversion are as follows: 1. Publish your Captivate project as a .swf file 2. Create a self-signed certificate (the easiest way to do this is through the AIR for Android settings screen in Flash CS 5.5) 3. Create the required XML-based manifest file that includes application description and permissions 4. From a command line, run the ‘adt’ command (see Flash CS5 help files for details) to compile the swf file into an Android app (.apk) 5. From a command line, run the ‘adb’ command (see Flash CS5 help files for details) to install the app package on your Android device. This is yet another option to re-use Captivate demos!"

  • IPhone app on an iPad unresponsive

I've developed an iPhone app using Air for iOS 3.2 which is nearing completion.
Even though it's just for iPhone, Apple's rules state that it must also work on an iPad - will display small in the centre of the screen with the "2x" button at the lower right of screen.
    The problem:
In Air for iOS settings, if I have Full screen UNCHECKED, then when it launches on an iPad there is no response to touch events at all. That is until such time as the "2x" button is used, at which point it begins to work as normal.
If I re-publish the same app with the Full screen option checked, then when launched on an iPad it behaves as expected.
Problem is I don't want it to be full screen on the iPhone - I want the iPhone's menu bar to be present.
I've checked with two other apps I'm developing, and this behaviour appears to be the case in all of them.
I've also switched to Air for iOS 3.4 but this behaviour remains.
Seems like a bug to me - or am I missing something?
    Any help much appreciated.
    David

    Hi Pranali
    Thanks for your followup.
I've been playing further and there's another crucial fact I failed to mention in my original post...
The problem does not arise if Aspect Ration is set to "Portrait".
    In the general settings:
Aspect ratio is set to "Landscape"
Both "Full screen" and "Auto orientation" are unchecked
Essentially, I have deconstructed my project until there is nothing left except for one Simple Button on the screen that does nothing but change state when touched and does a trace when in a debug session.
Can I assume that your app was Portrait?

  • Creating an iPhone app in DPS app builder?

I'm trying to create a test Iphone (Newstand) app before publishing but when I go to 'create app' in Indesign the DPS app builder loads up but doesn't give me the option to create an Iphone app, just a Ipad one?
I've noticed my version of the DPS app builder is on single edition but I have a developers licence now so I assumed that would have changed?
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
    best regards
    Spencer

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for the info.
So basically I can't create any Iphone apps with what looks like the single edition I have.
I'm trying to create some apps for the Newstand so I've already created a Ipad version but was also hopeing to have a Iphone version too
It says you can create unlimited Ipad apps with the single edition but would that include multiple editions of a magazine rather than an update of an existing one?

  • Trouble getting approval on iPhone app

We recently submitted our first iPhone app for Apple approval but it has been rejected for a couple of reasons.
The app is optimized for iPhone - built in DPS to iPhone screen size. But as DPS requires iPhone app viewers to also be compatible with the iPad, that's throwing up some issues.
Firstly, when viewed on the iPad, no folio appears for download. That is the first reason for rejection.
The second reason for rejection is the meta data description. We labelled the app as being for iPhone, but as the viewer can be downloaded to the iPad, Apple don't want us to label it exclusively for iPhone.
Is there a simple solution to this? Is there a way of using the x2 feature on the iPad so that the iPhone version can be viewed on there, or is there an even simpler solution that will help to get approval on this?
    Many thanks

Currently an iPhone only app cannot be built with DPS. Therefore, if you are targeting an iphone, you need to also target iPad too. Meaning you need to publish two version of the same folio/issue as rendition, one for the iPad and another for the iphone.
As said, iPhone only app is currently not possible with DPS, your app description(meta data) should talk about the ipad and iphone comaptibility in genral and not just iPhone.
    No, 2x is not possible

Download Xcode, learn Objective-C, practice endlessly, purchase Apple Dev status, then publish your work.
