Can I retreive data from my iPhone 4 hard drive without the sim?

There is no hard drive in an iPhone, it is all solid state memory. If the phone is working you can always copy content from it. If it is not you will need to restore and activate it, and that requires a SIM card.

  • My iMac OS 10.7.5 will not connect iphone or flash drives via USB.

    Hello,
My iMac (Late 2009) with an OS 10.7.5 will not recognize my iPhone 4S or any flash drives when connected to any USB port on the back of the iMac.
I have reset the PRAM many times and reset the SMC once.
    I have repaired disk permissions.
I have run Disk Warroir repair.
Fixed other issues, but not the USB connectivity.
The USB ports will recognize my printer, a powered USB hub, and external HD. It does not show in my System Profiler as seen here. One bit of hope was when I first reset the PRAM and connected my iPhone to the back USB port my iPhone made several connecting sounds in a row, but failed to actually show up in iTunes or iPhoto or anywhere. My iPhone and flash drives do connect via USB on my Powerbook. So it seems to be some problem with my iMac USB drives.
    Anything else to try?

  • Iphone with HK Drive play 1

Does anyone know or have they tried the iphone with the Drive and play 1. Is it acceptable voltage to charge the iphone while using it? I am thinking about getting one for ease of use while in the car. I have done several searches on the internet and have found mixed results. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

If you copy the library files across to the new machine and make sure the external drive has the same drive letter on the new machine then you should be able to sync as if nothing has changed.
Personally I prefer to try to arrange things so that entire library is on the external drive, i.e. an iTunes library folder containg the iTunes Media folder. As long as things are set out this way the library is portable and it doesn't matter if the drive letter changes, but making a split library portable again is sometimes a little tricky.

  • My USB ports will not recognize any devices, iPhone or external drives. Keyboard and printer work, any suggestions?

My USB ports will not recognize any devices, iPhone or external drives. Keyboard and printer work, any suggestions?

I'd start by looking in system profiler.
the blue Apple icon > About this Mac > More info...
goto the hardware section. Scroll down and click on  USB
See what happens when you have the device plugged in & not plugged in.
Move keyboard & mouse around to verify that ports work. Plug device in a port that worked with keyboar or mouse.  Keyboard usb ports are rather low power.
Perhaps device is taking too much power.  Are devices power or unpowered?  Try connecting devices to a usb hub.
    Which mac do you have?
    What iMac do you have?

  • Itunes/Iphone/Ipod device driver issues - tried everything. Still not working.

After hours and hours of research, I'm completely stuck. Here's the basic problem.
When I plug in my Iphone to my laptop, windows pulls up a little window that says installing device driver software. After several minutes, the process fails and a message comes up that says windows found drivers for my device, but encountered an error and wasn't able to install them. In the device manager, the iphone is listed as an "other device" with a yellow triangle/exclamation point. Itunes never recognizes the device.
When I plug in my ipod nano 4th generation, the exact same thing happens, except it's listed in the device manager as an ipod. (same yellow triangle though.)
Up until today, both of these devices have been working properly, syncing without trouble. The iphone synced wirelessly and the ipod every time I plugged it in. I can't figure out what on earth happened to my laptop today that messed things up.
It's also worth noting that I have another older ipod nano... second generation, I think, that plugs in and is recognized immediately, works perfectly.
Here is what I've done so far:
    1. I worked through every single troubleshooting guide that Apple has to offer. No change.
    2. I did a complete clean install of itunes and all additional components, rebooted and reinstalled. No change.
    3. I uninstalled/re-installed usb controllers in the device manager. No change.
    4. reset both the phone and the ipod. No change.
    5. I've tried various cables. No change.
    6. I've run system checks and repair utilities for windows vista.
    7. I've used selective start up to see if another program is interfering. I've stood on my head and counted to one hundred. I've only said seventeen swear words.
At this point I've done so much searching and troubleshooting, I can't imagine how anything is going to fix this issue. So this is my last hope. Please oh please be smart enough to tell me what to do...

Not sure if this is significant, but in a weird turn of events, when I tried plugging the ipod in this morning, the little message that pops up to install device driver software actually told me the drivers were installed successfully. However, in the device manager, it still says the drivers are NOT installed properly, the little yellow triangle is still there and the ipod still isn't registering in itunes, or my computer. So. Not really any improvement, but a different symptom none the less?
    I'm desperate, guys. Someone help?

  • How to play home movies on TV via Iphone and NAS Drive?

I have a problem playing transferred home movies on a flat screen tv through the “TV Out” feature of my Iphone 4.
    Brief History:
I have captured about a TB worth of various home movie videos from VHS tape to my PC hard drive in AVI format using AVS Video Recorder. I used AVS Video Converter to convert the AVI movie files to M4V files, to play these movies on my IPhone. I then copied these M4V video files to a Western Digital “My Book Live” NAS Drive which allows me to view any video using my Iphone, via a WD app, without using Iphone internal memory. This works so far.
The problem is that I thought I could show these videos to family members through their big screen TV at their house, and by hooking my Iphone to their tv’s audio/video inputs, via cables, using TV Out and access the videos from my NAS Drive as I could when using the Iphone alone. However, the home movies do not play on the TV! After a conversation with Apple Techs I was told that using the Iphone’s “TV Out” feature to view video onto a TV, via the Iphone , only works for video that is stored on the internal memory of the Iphone itself, not for accessing 3rd party drives as my NAS.
I was told that there are ways around this like:
    -    Syncing certain videos to the Iphone (to save storage space) and viewing them on TV via “TV OUT”
    -    Getting an IPad (bigger screen then Iphone) and accessing the videos through the Apple Cloud
    -    Using Apple TV and accessing movies via the cloud (which means I would have to bring and hook-up Apple TV to the receiving TV). Not sure about this method.
    -    Something about Airplay and mirrioring???
So my question is: Is there any way to access my NAS drive (which has all videos stored) and play those videos on another household’s TV, for many people to comfortably view at once, via my Iphone? Or, is there another method?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a playlist called shows that has a few TV shows, movies, and podcasts. I also have the latest versions of iTunies and Apple TV. The playlist doesn't show up anywhere on the Apple TV.
    Where should it be?
the playlist option will show next to where "genre" is only if the playlist contains the appropriate content for the section that you are in.
for example i have a playlist that contains all episodes of a season of King Of Queens. the playlist shows in the "my tv shows" section, but does not in "my movies", as the playlist only contains tv shows.
might be an idea not to mix content in playlists, as you won't be able to play mixed content from a playlist anyway.

  • Hard drive crashed...  How to sync Iphone with New Drive?

My hard drive crashed on my Macbook, I installed a new drive... How to I sync my Iphone without loosing applications, photos, pix, movies and contacts?

You should have a back-up of important info/music/pix/etc on an external source fro this very reason.
The iphone is not a storage device.
Assuming you don't back-up your info:
I think you can re-download Apps from the same itunes account.
Itunes purchased music can be transferred with iphone attached - in itunes click File>Transfer Purchases.
Pix can be e-mailed to yourself one at a time. The photos are optimized for viewing on iphone and will be of much lower quality than the original.
If you enter at least one contact and calendar entry in your computer, before syncing, you will get the option to merge.
The pic and music sync is one-way, computer to iphone.
Unless you can find a 3rd party app that you can trust, the rest is lost.
This would be a good time to begin backing up your important info.

  • Windows 8 and iPhone 5 USB Driver

I upgraded my iPhone to version 5 and Windows 8 does not recognize the device. Any ideas how to fix this? I was able to connect my iPhone 4 successfully before on Windows 8. Any ideas what driver I need to download to get my iPhone 5 working on Windows 8. When I do a search automatically for drivers, it returns nothing.

    carlamich:
Step 1: Install the latest version of iTunes on Windows 8 (using compatibility mode). Windows 8 gives you that option for compatibility mode:
    Right click itunes installer.
Cick run in compatibility mode windows 7. If it has no issues, itunes will be installed for windows 8 or it will fail.
    (reboot your machine)
Step 2: Stopped all apple services
Open a command prompt and type:
    net stop "Apple Mobile Device"
    net stop "Bonjour Service"
net stop "iPod Service" (find all Apple services or just use the GUI Services under control panel)
Step 3: Unstalled the unknown USB driver
For this, you need to go to Device Manager and uninstall unknown USB drivers.
Don't be scared, if Windows does not understand that driver, free up the space for a driver that actually works when you plug in your cable:
(please tell me you know how to get to device drivers)
Step 4: Start up all services and fire up iTunes 11 without my phone plugged in. (nothing plugged in / bare startup mode)
    net start "Apple Mobile Device"
    net start "Bonjour Service"
net start "iPod Service" (find all Apple services or just use the GUI Services under control panel)
Step 5: Plug your iPhone5 and let the USB manager do its thing and iTunes immediately will recognized it.
Step 6: Give me some credit becuase I typed all this stuff for you?

  • Itunes will not sync library to iPhone from hard drive

Have transferred Itunes library to an external hard drive to free up space on Windows XP. Library is recognised in file, but now will not sync when iphone is plugged in.

Welcome, barber....if you give more detail perhaps someone will have an idea. Are you getting any error message?

  • Using iPhone as USB drive and/or USB sync options?

I'm afraid I know the answer to this already, but is there anyway to connect an iPhone by USB to mount it on the desktop? Or, options to allow software to sync between iPhone and Mac desktop version of apps by USB rather than requiring both to be on the same wifi netwok?

Actually, I think it does. However, it appears there is no way to access these files within the iPhone itself. So, my next question will be about any document/file reader for the iPhone that can access any folder on the iPhone itself rather than just the apps predefined folder (ie; AirSharing which is great, but requires wifi and only accesses it's own folder). Not sure if Apple prevents this due to the "sandboxing" of apps. Also, seems the application you mention actually creates it's folder within the media folder of the iPhone... that's not a "no no" per Apple? It's strange there is a way to create folders which can't be viewed by any app on the iPhone or folders by iPhone apps that can only be viewed by that application. Seems very disjointed compared to a desktop OSX drive... perhaps to be expected given that it's a young platform (the iPhone, that is). Any suggestions on a way to mount via USB, then view on the iPhone?

  • Viewing iphone as a drive on Mac

When I connect my iphone or ipad to my PC computer, I can view them both as drives through Windows Explorer. When I do the same to my Mac Mini, I cannot find a way to view them as drives. Is there a way to view these two items as drives on a Mac? I'd like to be able to access the files on the devices without having to download them to the computer.
    Thank you.

    No.
The iPad and iPhone does not present a USB disk interface to computers.
While I do not have a Windows system, I suspect that all you are seeing is the media library (pictures, music, videos, ...), not the entire iPad or iPhone storage.  And I'm thinking this is via special software that makes the media library API's look like a mounted file system.  The iPhone/iPad does not do that directly.
If I guessed wrong about what storage Windows is showing you, please correct my misunderstanding.
"iTunes", "iPhoto", and the "Image Capture" apps (plus 3rd party photo apps) can access the iPad and iPhone.  "Preview" -> File -> Import, can get things from your iPhone/iPad photo library.
In doing some Google research, I found iExplorer for the Mac <http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/download-ie3-mac.php> that effectively does the same thing as iTunes, iPhoto, Image Capture, Preview more or less.  I'm sure there are other utilities similar to iExplorer available.

  • TS1538 windows xp not recognizing iphone - apple usb driver not in list

I have followed all the troubleshooting steps in TS1538.  I have uninstalled everything associated with apple and reinstalled the latest version of itunes at least 10 times.  I have tried and tried and tried to figure out how to get the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver to show up in the device manager list with no luck.  Everything else appears to be as it should according to all the troubleshooting steps with the exception that the USB driver will not show up in the list.  I've tried taking a screenshot and getting the computer to recognize it as a camera without luck.  I've tried using a different apple iphone, and ipad and an ipod with no luck.  I've taken my phone and cable to another computer and it works perfectly.  There is something preventing itunes from installing the usb driver on my computer.  This is my work computer that I need to sync with to keep my contacts and appointments synced.  Please help!!!  I have disabled everything I can including software, antivirus and all peripherals without any luck.  I am running winXP service pack 3 and itunes v. 10.7.0.21.
This has worked great for the last 2 years and then stopped working about 3 weeks ago and I have been trying to fix it off and on since then.  Any and all help is appreciated.  It started when I was trying to get my sons locked iphone 3G to sync with my computer and it wouldn't show up.  That was the last thing to sync with this computer and nothing has worked since.  I am confident that I've eliminated all the variables that I could.
Thank you for you time and effort.
    Chad

Maybe a Microsoft Update broke the driver? Or an update to your security software? Have you rebooted your computer? Have you tried disabling your antivirus and firewall? Have you tried removing and reinstalling iTunes?
