IPhone as gift

I've been thinking of getting an iPhone for a friend for his Christmas present, but I wasn't sure if it was possible. He is on Cingular but probably on a different kind of plan. I was wondering if I can get an iPhone that he can activate on his own, or if I'm not allowed to buy a phone for someone else.
Any of you been in a similar situation?

Iphone requires a $30/month data plan and a two year service contract with AT&T ( Cingular was bought by AT&T some time ago and is AT&T now).
The iphone has required activation when you purchased it. I don't know if this has changed. You will probably have to call Apple or AT&T to find out if you can do this. It will still have to be activated with AT&T for two years and $30/month additional data plan. So, make sure that your friend is o.k with the higher bill and the two year contract.

Want to give iphone as gift to someone who has Verizon BBerry

A friend has a BlackBerry with her Verizon account and I would like to give her an iPhone as a Christmas present. How do I do that?

Are they eligible for an upgrade? If so, what you can do is go to VZW and buy a VZW giftcard for the amount of the iPhone you want to get them (you can do this even if they aren't eligible but you would have to give them the amount of an iPhone at full retail). I'm not sure if they will let you order one for your friend using their account if you aren't an authorized person on their account...since if you get it at the advertized 2 year agreement price they would have to agree to a new contract. You can always call or visit the local VZW store to see what other suggestions they have for you to achieve giving your friend an iPhone as a gift.

IPhone, iPod gift card--will work for iPad?

I thought I was buying a gift card for my wife to use to purchase apps for her iPad. The gift card says for iPhone and iPod. Will it work for iPad as well, or is there a specific iPad gift card that I need to get?

If these are Apple-issued cards, the designation of "iTunes Apps Gift Card" for any card that carries a monetary amount is marketing only. All those cards are actually good for any content in the iTunes Store, for any device.

I have an iphone 4s gifted from a friend but its sim locked in my country

Hi..i have recently been gifted a used iphone4s from a german friend of mine but it is currently locked in the German carrier and i can't use it in my country..(i live in Greece) ..How can i unlock it and be sure that will remain unlocked ?? I have searched and found some stores that can do this job for me but i dont realy trust to pay 50-70 euros for the unlock without having any gurantee of money refund if not working...any1 can help ???

Only the carrier the iPhone was sold as carrier locked with can officially unlock the iPhone or send the unlock request to Apple on the owner's behalf which is done with iTunes after receiving email notification the unlocking process is ready.
Your friend will probably need to help you with this.

Iphone USA gift

Hi i would like to know if it's possible for a friends of me to send me a gift from the apple store.
He told than he can send me a IPhone 5 from Usa to France (Unlock, without any contracts) where I live.
My friends live in Usa.

Sure, but the phone won't support LTE in Europe & your warranty will only be valid in the US. Sure you want to do that? If you purchase the phone in France, your warranty is EU wide & your phone will support LTE in Europe.

Sounds like the iPhone is not unlocked. What store exactly did the gifter
purchase the iPhone in? Does it say unlocked on the receipt?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=About=>Carrier?

Advice needed on buying iphone as gift

I went to apple store, they do not want to sell iphone to me unless I sign AT&T 2 years plan. I thought AT&T has locked the phone and users must subscribe in order to use it. Why Apple store still not allow me to buy?
Please advice, if I want to buy online iphone for my brother, do I or my brother have obligation to sign out AT&T plan?
One more advice needed, I found the shipment takes weeks, do I have option to arrange for self-collection?
My brother birthday is coming soon, I need above advice urgently.

Well that's not entirely true.
Apple Stores have been instructed not to sell you an iPhone if any of the following is true:
You state that you will not be signing up with AT&T.
You do not have an ID from a US state, also indicating you will not be activating with AT&T
You do not have a credit card
For example, I've seen US Apple Store managers refuse to sell iPhones to European residents because of the AT&T lock-in.

My iphone 5s fail to restore

With regret this is to acknowledge that I am one of your FEW unlucky iphone users who has been struggling with the device ever since he purchased it.
I have been a great admirer of apple and its products. However this time it is a very frustrating experience which forced me to write this long email.
Hope someone would read it and help me !!
I purchased my iphone 5s in Dec 2013, just a year back.
Below are the device details:

Using this device felt like it worth investing so much of my hard earned money. I used to admire my iphone and flaut infront of my friends and collegaue.
I still believe it worth it.
Not many months passed when I started getting blackout problem. The device used to crash all of a sudden in between using any app and I had to use power button to bring it back on again. Initially this used to occur rarely, so I used to ignore it. Later on, as few more months passed, this problem occurred more frequently. Then I thought of taking help from apple support. They recommended me to get rid of few gaming apps then your problem should be resolved. Being a game freak, this didn't sound a good option to me, after all playing games on iphone was a totally different experience. However, I obeyed as the executive suggested just to ensure my device is safe.
Few more months passed, without any games on my iphone , this problem occurred again. Now even while using any built-in apps, it started crashing.
On few occasions it almost embarrassed me. When my friends asked me to click few pics from my phone and it crashed. Sometimes it happened that after crash, when I tried to power on, it didn't turn on. This is when I started to freak out, I mean what the heck has happened to my iphone. It was really frustrating.
After making many calls to apple support with many ticket numbers (all the ticket numbers are mentioned at bottom of this mail), all they understood was that there is some problem with my data on the device now. So they suggested me to restore my iphone as a new device without any apps and data. I did that and it ran without any problem for few days. However, after few more days, my mobile network signal went off and it always showed in searching mode. I thought this might be a carrier problem so I went to Vodafone store and got a new SIM. But this didn't solve the problem. The same SIM worked fine on my wife's iphone (I gifter her iphone 5s on her birthday), however putting it back on my iphone the signal didn't come up and it always showed me in searching mode.
Another call to apple support, another ticket number and same suggestion to try and restore as new iphone. I followed as my lord said, but the problem didn't resolve. After couple of more restore attempt, my iphone is now refusing to take any more restore request It is talking in terms of error codes now. Sometimes it threw error code, 1, sometimes, 9, sometime 12.
I took my iphone to apple service center and they declared it to be a hardware problem. Adding more action to my iphone experience, they said since this was purchased from USA, this cannot fixed in India. This was a great setback as I have no plan in near time to visit USA.
I tried to reach out to my friends if anyone of them or their friends are flying to USA I can handover my iphone to him. However, no one tunred up and dropped a penny to my begging bowl.
I am losing all hopes now. The status of my iphone now is, with almost a year of struggle, it is now kept silently in my cupboard. I am back to using my old samsung handset still trying to figure out when will i be able to use my iphone again.
This email, I know it has stretched a bit, is my last hope to reach all those helping hands. Please help me get my iphone back. Please bring back my happy days back using my iphone.

Accepting gifted application from different store.

A friend of mine gifted me an application , his account is on UAE store while mine in US store.
However, whenever I try to redeem the gift, it says its valid in UAE store only.
So what’s the solution.
And why we can’t gift ppl. In different stores. I have friends and family in different countries and ofcourse they are using the relevant store. So why Apple doesn’t make anything easy for the customer!!!
BTW…IOS 8 is the worst update for iphone.

All gifts (including gift cards) are country-specific - they will only be able to be redeemed in the same country as they person who sent it. Why you can't gift to another country I don't think that Apple have said, but it's possibly due to the rights-holders not allowing it.
The person who sent it can try resending it to somebody else who is in the UAE : Resend iTunes Gifts.

Little Snitch and Pro Book 'gift'

I was gifted a reconditioned, like new by all appearances, pro book OS X.7
The device works very well, impressive speed etc. Only one time start up was frozen and I maneuvered by it with a Pram reset on start up. This happened the very first time I restarted it and I never gave it any thought since it cleared right up.
Now here's my question.
I am demoing LS. I note that in the mDNSR section, a local iphone is making a connection, I assume, with my laptop.
This iphone is owned by the gift giver.
What does this mean?
I do no syncing, and I never will own a cellphone, ever.
My thoughts are that the iphone is simply showing up because airport is being contacted by the iphone user. Not necessarily is the iphone talking to my pro book, or is it? I cannot fathom any reason for an iphone to be popping up on my LS display. It is almost always popping up when the iphone user/gift giver is nearing my bunker, home, etc.
Help, please. 2 days of my life trying to sort this out. This is my first apple community post. I dread the answer but must have one.

I am a noob. This is my only computer, no ipads etc. I just killed my 10 year old TV shaped apple, saving the plastic logo as Steve Jobs died, and affixed it to my grinder, on the lid.... I was having to prod the guts with a drumstick to start it, and one time I felt current crawl through the wood. In those days, I did suspect foul play, spyware, but the expired browser, 2 years gone, was only working because someone allowed it to work. I figured it was so old that no one would bother doing anything tricky, and I wouldn't have cared if the whole world did watch what I did or looked upon, unless, oddly, that it was the same person that gifted me the macbook. That would be very disconcerting. But I digress.
Snitch has never once asked if I want to allow or disallow anything. Mind you, it is a free demo.
I hardly understand code. I did remove two rules of the 54 (unallow mobileme) and saw the same iphone flash on for just a couple of moments in the LS mDNSR column. With 'allow mobileme', the iphone is there for many minutes at a time.
My problem is a bit wider than I worded it. I am suspecting I was given a loaded computer for monitoring purposes, but I am an adult, and not employed by the person who gave me the mac book.
In getting a possible answer to my initial query, I can start to figure out the extent of the real issue here. In other words, it may be hardwired. It may have undectectable software on it. As we know, spyware is commonplace because ~ well, just look at how it's advertised. Cheating spouses, *****, etc....
I am trying to see why xxx's iphone routinely shows up. Usually the colors are green in the two bar graphics, but I thought I saw red as well. In the apple 'activity monitor', red means outgoing, green means incoming. I am assuming the same code holds true for LS.

My iPhone 4 would not turn on. Restart is not working.

I had the iPhone (a gift, service paid for by my sister) for 3 weeks. Worked completely fine from the time it was activated. I recharged it daily. Then one day I was using the phone as the charge was getting low. I turned it off and plugged in the lightning cord to recharge. The next morning the phone would not turn on. All I could get was a low battery warning, then the screen went blank. Restting wouldn't get to the apple symbol on screen. Just 2 low battery symbols then blank. I checked the port for lint or obstructions. None. I used someone else's lightning cord for iPhone 4. Nothing. I tried recharging it on my computer. Nothing. I'd been extremely careful with it and never put in in my pants pocket. Extremely frustrating, since the nearest Apple Store is 2 very inconvenient bus routes away. I tried calling Apple but, frankly, got 2 Geniuses who were not helpful one of whom actually laughed at me b/c I had trouble finding the serial number. HELP! PLEASE!
