Iphone audio is stuck on "headphones"

after using earphones last week (i've used same earphones many times b4 w/o prblms)
my iphone audio got stuck on "headphones" mode, forcing me to listen to all my calls in spkr phone mode. Have tried rebooting...no luck.
Anyone experienced this audio lock b4 ? Any idea how to rectify ???

Try inserting and removing the earbuds several times in a row. If this doesn't work, have you checked inside the earbuds port for any lint or foreign material? It doesn't take much.

  • IPhone audio out stuck on 'headphones'

When I make a phone call, or recieve one, I do not hear any audio coming from the normal top speaker on the phone.  The person on the other end can hear me.  When i adjust the volume I see that it says 'headphones' on the screen, as though I have some plugged in.  I dont.
I encounter the same problem across the ipod, youtube etc, not just the phone app.
When I do plug in headphones, I can hear everything normaly with no problem.
I have restarted, and hard reset the device several times.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

The phone did not recognize that you unplugged the headphones. While the phone is active insert and remove the headphone plug a couple of times. this will usually fix it. If it doesn't there is dirt or moisture in the headphone jack, or the jack is broken.

  • My iphone 6 is stuck on headphones mode.

I hadn't used the headphones before this happened. I've tried cleaning out the jack with a match (it looks very clean) and plugging the headphones in and out several times whilst watching a video. Neither worked.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I Had this issue for the first time the other day...
I have an iPhone 5s and I don't think I've even used the headphone jack on this particular phone, because it's a replacement phone for a previous phone where the sleep wake button wouldn't work.  The other day I could not hear any phone calls and less I put it on speakerphone or I put in a headphone set.  I first did a hard reset on my phone, then I rebooted it and it went away it hasn't return sense but, people are now complaining that they cannot hear me when I'm talking not on speakerphone.   Three people have now told me that it sounds like I'm going in and out of the tunnel, and it's intermittent.   My call either sounds completely clear or it sounds like I'm in a tunnel.  Got to tell you it's a little bit annoying, and it makes me not want to upgrade to the next iPhone even though I'm eligible.  This is my third iPhone five because all the iPhones I've had so far in the five series had problems that required insurance claims. And of course when you have a cell phone provider and you do an insurance claim, they send you a refurbished phone

  • Dropped My iPhone in water Stuck in Headphone mode

Last night around 11pm, I was getting up off the toilet, and my phone fell out of my pocket and into the toilet. I didn't think I instantly scooped it out of the toilet, popped off the case for the phone, dried it off with some paper towels, shut it off and threw it in Rice.
This morning around 7am, I turned it on. Turned on just fine, didn't think anything of it. Got into my car, plugged her into the Aux port, played music just fine.
However when I unplugged it, no sound was coming from the phone. I plugged headphones into it and sound came out, pulled them out and nothing.
my "Ringtone works just phone when I receive a call playing through the speakers, but when I go to pick it up, I hear nothing. I have to plug my headphones in in order to head them.
    iPhone 6 plus 128GB.
    Things I've Tried:
-Plugging the Headphone Jack in and out (7-10 times)
    - Blowing into the Headphone Jack
    -Sucking the headphone jack
-Poking the headphone jack with a paper clip.

I did mention the phone was in an Otterbox case correct?
Where exactly did you mention it

  • My phone is stuck in headphone mode and nothing is working!  Help!

My IPhone 4S is stuck in headphone mode.  I have tried everything from putting my phone in rice overnight, blowing and sucking air in the headphone jack, and hard resetting it but nothing is working!  Please help!!

    Hello manhay,
The following article provides some additional troubleshooting that can help restore audio to your iPhone's speaker.
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

  • HT201401 I phone 4 Is stuck in headphone mode

My iPhone 4 is stuck in headphone mode

I searched this problem for a while and saw queries about 'can't hear ringtone'  or  ' sound controls don't work'.
I thought the threads about 'stuck in headphone' sounded close to my problem. I recalled an earlier post to do with ipods ages ago and gave it a try...  blow hard into the 3mm headphone jack hole.
ok. sounds "wrong" I know, but it worked. instantly all the sounds came back.  I wonder if there might be a mechanical switch in there that doesn't reset when you withdraw the headphone.
    call me crazy.
like Galileo said.. "and yet.. still it moved..."
    cheers

  • Phone gets "stuck" on headphones

Since I upgraded to 2.1 (or whatever it is) my iPhone keeps getting stuck on headphones. I cannot use the phone unless I plug in the headphones. I have tried everything on the website including plugging and unplugging, turning off blue tooth and restarting, cleaning out the jack. This has tyo be a software problem. If I go to sounds and select a ring tone the headphones problem goes away and the ring tone plays through the speaker. However within a minute or two, the same problem comes back.

My sound also keeps fading away into a distorted mess. There is definitely a software sound problem. Sometimes I can do multiple resets and the sound will come back - for awhile. Then it fades away and distorts again.

  • Phone stuck in headphone mode

My daughter's iphone 4 is stuck in headphone mode.  we can hear her ringtone, but her text tone, email tone, any alert tone is unable to be heard.  I have plugged in the headphones and taken them out several times and i've also blown into where the headphones go and it hasn't fixed the problem so I tried rebooting it twice and still can't get it to get out of the headphone mode

Try inserting and removing the headphone jack again, multiple times.  If that doesn't fix it, you may have a hardware problem with the headphone sensor, which will require a trip to the Apple store for evaluation.
Edit: be sure to make an appointment before going.

  • IPhone audio stuck on "headphones"

My audio output is stuck on headphones - whenever I try to change volume up and down the display says "ringer (headphones)"
Speaker works fine, but when I pull out my headphones I don't get any sound from the listener above the screen.
I saw where there were suggestions to re-insert & remove headphones multiple times - tried that with no luck.
Is there no way to control audio output from within the iPhone software?

mine got wet and started to act that way but after many hours in rice it went away
many others report that the headset detector can get stuck and inserting and removing a headset will fix it

  • IPhone 5s stuck in headphone mode

So when I tried to listen to some music at lunch today there and wasn't any sound coming from the speakers. I found out the phone was stuck in headphone mode. I've tried everything; from Q tips to blowing air into the audio jack but nothing seems to work. When listening to music the sound is much louder in my right ear than the left and I can hear crackling and barely noticeable static (tested with two pairs of headphones). What should I do, should I take it to a Genius Stand and pay a ridiculous amount to get it fixed or wait it out and hope it fixes itself.

    Hello Toronto 61,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
There are still some troubleshooting steps to go through before it's isolated to being a hardware issue.  The troubleshooting steps can be found in the following article:
