IPhone Audio Output Weird

Hi,
I'm having problems with my iPod in my iPhone. The problem seems to be that when i plug in my earphones, The audio output is wierd. All I can hear is sometimes the background music and very faintly the person singing. I have tried everything for Hard Resetting my Phone and ReSyncing my music into my iPhone but it did not work, another wierd thing is it seems to play fine when the music is playing through the speakers on the bottom.
Thank You.

Have you tried to increase the volume with the headset plugged in? The volume control works separately for speakers and headset.
"When you’re on the phone or listening to songs, movies, or other media, the buttons
on the side of iPhone adjust the audio volume. Otherwise, the buttons control the
volume for the ringer, alerts, and other sound effects. "
Otherwise I would check the Settings->iPod->Volume Limit.

  • IPhone Audio Output vs. MacBook Pro

I've been the owner of the Apple In-Ear Headphones for a while now, and have experienced an improvement in the sound quality between the in-ear and standard iPhone headphones.
However, I've recently been using the same in-ear headphones with my MacBook Pro, and noticed a significant difference in the quality, depth, and volume of the sound. When playing the same songs on my MBP, the headphones are capable of much louder volumes, much clearer audio, and are much bassier than when using my iPhone 3G S, yet the audio tracks are identical.
Is there any specific reason why my iPhone isn't capable of matching up to the quality of my MBP?
    Many thanks

I wanted to chime in after my latest show-down between my iPhone 5 vs. iPad 3 vs. MacBook Pro 2010.  My medium of choice is vinyl for hi-fi listening, but otherwise I prefer Spotify @ 320kbits.
I plugged them into my hi-fi system: rega brio-r amp, wharfedale diamond 10.1 speakers, standard [decent quality] 3.5mm to RCA cord to plug in each device.  No DAC in my setup. No cable splitting-- all directly plugged in.
I used the latest Arcade Fire album, Reflektor, 320kbits from Spotify.  I think the album has enough dynamic range to make it a good test subject.  I started the test on track 2, that song in particular having a lot of dynamism.
    The breakdown:
Iphone5 and iPad3 both sounded identical.  Everything sounded good on first pass until I plugged in the MacBook Pro.  The MacBook revealed an enormous difference in better audio quality!  The MacBook output crystal clear highs and the lows also had a "thump" that the iPhone/ipad did not have.  That difference right there showed that the MacBook is simply capable of handling a higher spectrum of sound.  With a higher spectrum, and the ability to differentiate the highs, mids, and lows helped give the sound much more dimension.
    Bottom line:
I wish I could turn back the clock on all those hours I spent listening to my iPhone.  Without a doubt, the MacBook Pro has a much higher quality audio output.  I think this is attributed to the fact that the MacBook actually has a SOUNDCARD while the iPhone/ipad both have like integrated circuit boards.  It's the dedicated soundcard on the MacBook that gives it its advantage.
To break it down to hi-fi thinking, when a stereo has separate modular components that are dedicated to doing 1 thing well, there is a better opportunity for higher quality sound.  That would be in comparison to an "all-in-one" unit that crams a lot of electronics into a single "stereo" system.  Generally, the overall quality of the "all-in-one" will be hampered by what are basically the limitations of engineering and production; each new component/feature they cram on the same circuit board compromises the overall integrity of the whole.  What I'm trying to say is that the MacBook is more like a modular setup with dedicated components, and the iPhone/ipad are the "all-in-one".

Is there a way to make the output of my iphone audio be mono instead of stereo? Does anyone know of any applications I could buy that might accomplish that?

  • IPhone Audio Output Problem

I got a pair of blue tooth headphones, but when I pair it up with my iPhone (1G) it doesn't play any songs, I can hear them coming out of my iphones speakers, but not the headphones....
I fiddled around with my phone and discovered that the Voice Memo app has an 'audio device' button at the top left, which allows me to listen to my voice memo's through the headphones.
So I'm asking if the 'iPod' app/icon has one too and where? Or if there's some option in the 'Settings' app.
    Please help, and thanks

There is no setting. The original iPhone does not support the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile, a Bluetooth profile that allows for the wireless transmission of stereo audio from an A2DP source (typically a phone or computer) to an A2DP receiver (a set of Bluetooth headphones or stereo system).

  • Iphone audio sounding weird

Hi this is my first post so I will be as descriptive as possible. So my Iphone 5 will play songs fine throught the speakers but the problem is with headphones. When a song is playing and i plug my headphones in i get audio in one ear and it is very staticy and distorted. The only fix to this is to turn mono audio on then off again. After that it plays fine but then when i unplug and plug my headphones in it starts again. Any help would be appreciayed. I feel that it is something in settings but I really dont know.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps...  Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes.

  • Selecting audio output from iPhone - bluetooth or dock?

    Hi
I have a problem selecting audio output on my iPhone 3GS with my incar system
    Set up:
Dension ipod dock connected direct to CD changer port on Radio
    Bury Bluetooth hands free device.(CC9060)
My preferred option is to have the Dension play my audio.
However when I turn on the iPod function on the iPhone, the audio defaults to the Bury hands free system and tried to stream the audio via bluetooth which the phone cannot do.
On the bottom right of the screen on the iPhone, I see a speaker icon - I click on this and I get the option to select the iPod Dock or the CC 9060 (Which is the Bury Hands free)
I can select the iPod dock and teh audio plays fine, however, how to I force the iPhone to always use the iPod dock and not the Bury hands free.
From what I can tell, its not the Bury which is forcing teh choice - its the iPhone, but I cannot see anywhere where there is an option to choice the iPod dock as the default audio device.
    Any one have any ideas?
    Thanks
    Glenn

    Found a quite probable fix.
I've took my dock station under big lens and noticed a stuck contact -- they are supposed to be somewhat movable. So I pick a real small screwdriver and unstuck the contact.
    Issue is apparently gone.

  • Trying to use my iPhone 3GS as audio output

This might sound a little convoluted, but here it goes.
I'm trying to get some use for my iPhone 3GS, and i though i might be able to connect it to an audio system and stream music from my Mac library to it. If i use iTunes, ideally, i could use my iPhone 5S to control iTunes, and therefore, control the music that's being output through the 3GS.
Is this even possible? Using my iPhone 3GS as audio output from a Mac, preferabily using iTunes instead of 3rd party app?
    Thanks!

$25 is a little steep.... Since i'm trying to make this as cheap as possible (I guess for a little more than that, i can buy a used Airport Express and save me the trouble)

  • IPhone 4 USB Audio output?

I'd like to know when/if the iPhone 4 will offer USB audio output (digitally). I'd like to use a USB DAC without having to pay ~$600 for a Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo. I'm not asking for power, as my DAC has its own battery. Is it about money for licensing? The CLAS works...why not a FiiO E17 via the iPad CCK? Android has USB host capability...
    Sean

Speculation and rumors are forbidden by the terms of service. The phone doesn't support it. Apple has made no announcement of such a feature or the intent to implement such a feature. Your question can not be answered. There are plenty of cheap docking speakers, alarm clocks, etc. that use audio out from the dock. It's not a matter of money. The system you refer to is expensive because the manufacturer feels they can charge that much and get away with it.

  • My iPhone only outputs audio on the left channel.

Randomly and without changing any settings, my iPhone has started only outputting the left channel of stereo audio, i.e. when I play a song on it I only hear it through the left channel. I've tried different sets of headphones, same story. Also it has stopped responding to volume changes via the inline remote - play/pause still works....
    What could be wrong??

I am getting audio output from only my left earbud. However, the volume control mounted on the right channel cable is functioning fine. I plugged in another set of earbuds and they seem to work fine.
Can anybody help? Or do I have to visit the Apple store for a replacement of earbuds?

  • Weird stereo phasing effect on audio output

Not really sure where to post this, so this board will have to do. This just started recently out of the blue. It's especially noticeable on headphones: the stereo signal seems to very rapidly shift phase between the left and right speakers. I'm getting it both with my desktop speakers (which are connected directly to the iMac's audio output) and my Behringer USB d/a converter. Everything's OK in mono but it becomes very annoying in stereo.
    Cary

    Hi Cary
Sounds like your Output Jack (Headphone Jack) is worn or loose from to much plugging and unplugging! You might try using a 3.5mm Extension cable or splitter, like the ones shown in the links below. If that doesn't help then you need to take the iMac in for service and have the Jack replaced!

  • Audio Output Selection in 3rd Party Media Apps

In all 3rd party media apps that I have, including Netflix and Pandora, among others, I do not have that box/arrow button that allows me to choose which audio output to use.
I normally have my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) connected to a pico projector, and paired with a set of bluetooth headphones.
Depending on the order I plug the projector in, or pair the headphones, I can get the audio to play through the right channel, but it is very finicky. If there are any interruptions (call, text, ect) or if Ieave the app, and come back, it defaults to the serial connection, and tries to play the audio through the project.
Is the lack of the audio channel selection button on the iOS side or the app side?
    Thanks!

You should be able to reset the default app in application settings, then it'll ask again, but I don't remember how >_>

  • Satellite laptop: connecting video out to projector causes hum in (headset) audio output

Our church connects video output from the laptop to a projection system and audio out (via headset jack) to a sound board mono channel (line in).  Stereo to mono adapter.  We get a significant hum in the audio whenever the video cable is plugged in.  Doesn't matter whether the attached projection equipment is on or off, it's all about plugging the video cable into the laptop.  Unplug the video cable and the hum disappears.  Obviously we have tried all sorts of things to isolate the problem but it all comes back to plugging in that video cable.  We made sure there were no nearby power supplies or other equipment that might throw out interference.  Has anyone ever encountered this problem and  have any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Using a Satellite PSBY1U laptop.  Video out is not HDMI but the other (VGA?) connector.  We are connecting audio out from the headset jack direct to a mixer channel.  No microphone is connected to the laptop.  We looked at every sound and video-related menu we could find and could not see any settings that would seem to be relevant to the problem (we changed lots of settings anyway and nothing helped).  Naturally we played with audio volumes, different auto cables, etc.  Bottom line is we get clean audio until we plug the video cable into the laptop, then we get a very prominent hum from the audio output.  Video cable goes straight to a projector, doesn't matter whether the projector is turned on or off.  The audio and video cables are never closer than four inches from each other.  It's weird.

  • Noise on audio output when using the power adapter

I'm a musician and use my mid-2007 MBP 15" in my live rig. When I use the power adapter, I hear a buzz, sometimes accompanied by a slightly louder buzz that cycles on & off about 1x/second. There are a few weird things going on here:
    1. The buzz does not happen all the time. That leads me to think it may be noise in the AC line that the adapter is plugged into.
    2. The noise is heard when I use both the built-in audio output AND an external USB audio interface.
In any case, when I disconnect the power adapter and run my MBP on battery, the noise goes away completely. I can probably do this on most gigs, but I'm a little nervous since I run a FW drive, an external USB audio interface, and my midi keyboard (powered by USB) so I am putting a little heavier than usual load on the MBP's battery.
As I said, this may be a noisy AC line. Another guess is that it's the PMU inducing noise into the audio circuitry. I'm hoping a simple AC line filter can help me but I thought I would ask here first in case anyone else has dealt with this. TIA for any help!

I had a similar problem and fixed it with a $5 universal travel adapter. Yours might be different but here's my situation. Try it for little cost and see if it works.
I'm also a muso with an iMac running external KRK speakers via USB Mbox2. Previously I had a Macbook Pro and the same audio problem. I've been putting up with a very low volume, high pitch noise until now. I simply plugged the Mac power cord into a universal travel adapter which then goes into the wall. For Aussie users there is an adapter on ebay that will allow a 3 pin Aussie plug to go into female side and has a two pin Aussie male on the other. For US users you can probably get the same although there is a 59c product that will do the trick called a ground lift adapter. Applecare actually agreed this was the best fix and confirmed there would be no problems with power supply or Mac performance. What a gem ! God knows I've looked into all kinds of alternatives that could have cost hundreds instead of $5.
