Iphone Auto-Shut Down and Won't Restart

Help! I charged my iphone last night to 100%; streamed 5 minutes of radio and my phone shut itself off and won't turn back on; I've tried the sleep/on/off button on the top, the home button on the bottom, and I've tried plugging it in. I'm not in a location where I have access to my original computer with itunes to restore the iphone to the last back-up; is there anything I can do????
Thanks!

hi im new here.. apparently the problem keeps on repeating after turn back on. is there any other solution?

My iPhone 4 shut down and won't turn on again. I tried charging it and do it again...When i charge it , it opens the " Connect to iTunes" , when i switch to the computer to connect it , it doesn't work... It starts to the apple screen , and then just shuts down again. I tried holding the home and sleep/wake button at the same time..I tried everything. What should i do?

Your iPhone is going back and forth between recovery mode and powering on which is really strange.
Have you tried a hardware reset while its connected to your computer? This will force it back into recovery mode so that you can restore it. If restoring and setting up as new doesn't help, go ahead and take it to an Apple Store for a replacement

  • My computer randomly shuts down and won't restart.

My computer randomly shut down and would not restart. I took it to an apple store and they fixed it by running something through the disk utility. I was told to run something else (it had to do with what the computer does when it shuts down as I don't shut mine down a lot). It had been running when the guy showed me it at the upper right corner and said "initializing" but I did not remember what it was called when I got home and it was no longer open. Any one have a similar problem where this was suggested and remembers what is it called?

    Try a SMC reset.

  • G5 shuts down and won't restart when set to sleep

Twice in a row this has happened to me. I press the power button on the back of my G5 for the required duration to tell the computer to "sleep" and sleep it does - for a few minutes. Then next thing I know it has shut down and become totally unresponsive and no amount or combination of unplugging and repluging the AC supply and/or holding down the power button for up to a minute can force it to respond in any way nor restart.
The solution is to disconnect everything; remove the back of the G5 and press the reset button on the logic board - but sometimes the comuter will just randomly restart all on its own when powered up with its back off.
Can anyone suggest what might be going on here and whether it is a software or a hardware issue.

    Hi, Michael.
This sounds like hardware to me. Here's my list of general troubleshooting steps specific to the iMac G5 (you may have already seen #3, but it's included as it's part of my standard list):
    1. The first thing I would suggest is ruling out potential hardware problems. Run the Apple Hardware Test that came with the computer. Instructions for doing so will be found in the hardcopy manual that accompanied your computer.
    2. Check the diagnostic LEDs, a feature of your iMac G5. See "About the iMac G5 diagnostic LEDs."
    3. If your iMac G5 will not turn on, see "iMac G5: Troubleshooting when your computer won't turn on."
    4. See also the new iMac G5 Support site.
    5. Check the iMac G5 Discussions for similar reports from other users.
    6. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified. In your situation, I'd consider it a long shot, but it will determine if there are any issues with some "common troublemakers."
    7. If the computer is either under warranty or covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, don't hesitate to take advantage of your warranty and contact AppleCare.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone 5 shut down and won't turn back on

My phones screen turned a blue/greenish color and shut down and will not turn back on :(

I'm having the same issue with my iPhone5.  It just started yesterday afternoon.  The "hard reset" as you suggested worked once.  However, it shut down again only one hour later.  It didn't turn on (even with the hard reset) for three hours when the hard reset worked again.  I hooked it up to iTunes and restored my phone and thought that it would fix the issue.  But after being on for about two hours, my screen got vertical lines then turned green and shut off again.  I haven't been able to turn it back on no matter what I do all night and all day today.
It doesn't matter that the phone is plugged in or have 100% battery power.  It just won't turn on again.
I have an appointment at my local Apple Genuis Bar, but I'm not sure what they can do as I'm not sure if this is a software or a hardware issue.

  • HT1430 New iPhone 4 shut down and wouldn't restart.

I have a relatively new iPhone, still under the 90 day warranty. Today it just stopped responding. The screen went dark and I couldn't turn it on. I was able to reset it, but was I wondering why it shut down and wouldn't turn back on. Is this a common iPhone issue, or should I have a tech check it over before my warranty expires in two weeks?

  • 800Mhz g3 12" ibook  shuts down and won't restart

I have a 12" ibook that started shutting down on its own then that stopped but now at random i'll shut it down and it won't restart. I reset the PMU with no change. If i let it sit for about a week or two it will turn back on and run fine for a while again. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to check?
    Thanks

It is not unusual for an iBook with the known _logic board problem_ to start up from time to time, but not reliably.
It sounds as though that is probably the problem.
After leaving it sit overnight, does squeezing the case to the left of the trackpad allow you to start up and work for a bit as long as you keep the pressure on it there? If so, you may want to consider trying the shim fix suggested by John Sawyer in the Apple Discussions iBook G3 (Dual USB) Displays Forum:
[Y]ou can often fix this yourself by removing the iBook's bottom housing, and placing a shim of any sort, about 1mm to 1.5mm thick, onto the raised square on the bottom shield. I use a Scotch mounting square--you can get them in hardware stores and many grocery stores. When you reinstall the bottom case, it will press against this shim, which will press against the graphics chip, and may allow the chip to come into better contact with the logic board.
    John Sawyer
    CJS Macintosh Repair
Instructions for removing the lower case:
    iFixit.com
If the shim fix doesn't work (or you're leery of trying it), DT&T Services in Fremont, California offers one of the cheapest repairs I've found. They have a six-month warranty on the repair.
Once you get it fixed, try never to pick it up by the left front corner alone. The theory is that picking it up by the left front corner alone can contribute to logic board failure when the case flexes, causing the graphics chip to come loose from the logic board. If you're picking it up in your left hand (as I often do mine), pick it up in the center under the trackpad.
If you can afford it, the money may be better spent by putting it toward a new (or used) MacBook. I really love mine. It is a spectacular upgrade over the iBook G3, provided that you don't need OS 9 for anything.
Good luck with whatever course of action you decide upon.

  • EMac shut down and won't restart

    Hello,
I came in today to find my eMac (1.25 GHz G4 )shut down. It will not restart. I have replaced the battery, pushed the PMU button, pulled and reinserted the memory. It was working great at 10 last night, not aware of any power surges etc. in the area, the other computers in the same room are fine. I also left it unplugged for an hour and tried it in different sockets that I know are working.
Of course it is just out of warranty- any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Don

    Don,
Sorry that your board appears fried. You mentioned the other computers in the same room are fine; that's not unheard off, as power line surges can do things that aren't described in any first-year EE textbooks. You may need to check the other computers before further problems come up; more specificaly, check the surge protectors in use with the computers and other electronic devices throughout your place. Commom low-cost surge protectors are MOSFET-based devices, which are cheap and easy to design. Unfortunately, MOSFET surge protectors have a nasty design drawback that the protecton ability degrades over time and with each exposure to a line surge. They're essentiall one-shot devices as far as protection goes. Eventually, they will lose all effective protection, even through status LEDs will continue to report all is well. (It's actually recommended that MOSFET surge protectors be replaced every three years or so regardless of any known surge exposure, although I don't know of anyone who actually follows that advice.)
That could explain why the eMac fried but other computers in the room didn't; the eMac's surge protector (or even just the particular outlet it was connected to on a shared surge protector) just happened to be a little more degraded.
You may want to preemetively replace the surge protectors you've been using in at least the room the computers are in if not the entire house (how expensive is your television?). Most Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) systems that I've seen have decent designs (e.g., APC). The lab were I work uses Tripp-Lite Isobar surge protectors as the standard; they're not cheap, but they're effective and will outlast your computers --- those types stay in use for years, decades even, around here, which seems like a good idea to the people around here who know far far more than I do about the subject.

  • IMac Shuts Down and Won't Restart for ANYTHING!

I'm unsure if this is the right place, but our iMac just crashed for the second time. Here are some details:
    1. It's happened before, but it was easily corrected when we switched power outlets. And even then the old outlet worked afterwards.
    2. I've looked all over for help, but all I keep seeing is reports of the same thing - which is highly annoying.
    3. I've tried all the soulutions I've seen:
~Shut down for 20 seconds, remove power cord, plug back in, turn on (didn't work), hold D.
~Take out RAM modules and put back in
I got a response from the latter "solution", but it didn't go past the start up whir, but not the start up sound.
It's not turning on for anything, what the heck do I do now?!

This is the formal procedure for doing an SMC reset (disconnecting from power and reconnecting)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
so be sure you followed it precisely, instead of just unplugging it. Also, while doing this procedure, you should disconnect ALL cables. If you have been using a crowded or old power strip, connect it directly to the wall outlet, at least initially for this test. Power it up with nothing connected except for the power cord. If it starts up properly, connect just your keyboard/mouse and use it that way for a while. If the iMac is working properly at this point, you should also reset PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If all is well, add you peripheral devices back, one at a time if possible. If the problem recurs at some point, note which device was added last. USB and FireWire devices can become defective, or otherwise interfere with sleep, wake, startup, and shutdown.
If the problem still occurs, even after the SMC reset when you power up with nothing connected (except the power cord) or when you are using it with ONLY your keyboard/mouse connected, you should have it looked at by a technician at an Apple Store or Apple-certified repair shop. If you got it January 2009, it is still under the one-year warranty.

  • Macbook Pro shut down and won't restart

    Hi all
My Macbook Pro is just over one year old so now out of warranty. It just shut down without warning a few weeks ago (nothing strange happened, no water spillage or anything like that) and wouldn't turn back on. When I attached the charger to it there was no little light (either green or orange) and would just do nothing at all. I took it to an authorized Apple technicians (I live in Dubai) and they reset the motherboard and it was working fine. Last week it did exactly the same thing and shut down again and wouldn't turn back on. They're now saying they may need to replace the whole motherboard which is going to cost me a fair bit.
I'm quite annoyed as it is my first Macbook Pro and everybody told me how they never have problems etc etc. Any other suggestions as to what might be the issue or do I just need to shell out for the motherboard? I'd read online that the battery could be the issue but they're saying they tried a new battery in another customer's machine and it didn't work so are replacing the motherboard.
    Thanks,
    Lauren

  • My brand new 5s shuts down and won't restart. Then later it spontaneously restarts. Anyone else having this issue? Ready to go with a different phone completely!

This is the second time since I got my new 5s that when I wake up it isn't on and not charged. I cannot get it to turn on. The last time it did this was about a week ago and it spontaneously turned on later in the day with minimal charge. What is going on? I do not have anytime to run back to the AT&T store to get a new phone and I am reading that this may be a software issue. Anyone frustrated with their 5s?

  • HT3964 What if  a mac pro spontaneously shuts down and won't restart

Mac pro 2012. Happily working then stops. All attached powered devices like hard drives remain on. Not due to dodgy ac power because it's behind a 2kv ups with constant sine wave output. The ups looks like its barely ticking over.
Reset the pmu according to instructions but it remains dead. Tried other house circuits, new ac adaptor lead etc. it's like a fuse has gone, though I doubt such a thing exists.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA
    Tim

Sudden power-down can be caused by processor overheating, but that generally shuts off the fans and drives all at once.
You may be describing a sudden graphics card failure, possibly due to overheating. Make sure some warm air is still coming out the fan port on the back of the card, if so equipped.
In most parts of the world, you can remove the side door with the Mac Pro 65 lb tower still running, and check whether fans are all running.
CAUTION: In the EU, the European commission has determined that you are too stupid not to put your finger in the fans, and the Mac Pro is so dangerous it cannot be sold in the EU until a new model is released. So this advice is not to be used in Europe.
Also, be certain that any bananas you buy are not too strongly curved -- those are illegal in Europe. Unfortunately, you will be forced to fend for yourself when using refillable Olive Oil bottles in restaurants -- they were unable to develop a consensus to ban them outright for the good of the public. So please, be extremely careful!

  • When battery is empty my iphone 3GS shuts down and won't turn on for a day!

Hi, I desperately need your help!
When the battery on my iphone runs out, the device, naturally, turns off. But even though I plug it into my charger - nothing happens; the screen is blank and stays like that for some hours, even a day long. I then, of course, try everything - plug it into different sockets, laptop, try taking out the sim card - anything - just to wake it up somehow, but it doesn't react. Then miraculosly, it starts charging as usual - never on its own, but only when I re-plug it! And then it's as if nothing happened!
Has anyone had this problem? Is there a reasonable explanation or should I reclaim my iphone?
    Thanxxx!

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
    1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
    If no change, continue:
    2. Restore your phone from a backup, note: if the problem is related to corrupt data, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
    If no change, continue:
    3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store.

Can anyone please help, i can't turn my phone on, it was working ok now it's off and i can't turn it back on, the battery is not dead so it's not that

You're welcome.  "At least 10 seconds"....
"Why" - all computers can freeze due to corrupted data or instructions.  Jailbroken phones are much more susceptible, and sometimes don't respond to resetting...
FYI, if you have to do this again, and instead of the Apple logo you see a Dick Cheney logo, put the phone down ASAP and exit the building in a rapid but orderly fashion..
