IPhone automatically starts backing up, then iTunes crashes

Hi,
Every time I plug my iPhone into the computer, it states: You have apps and what not purchased on your iPhone that are not on your computer. Do you want to transfer them from your phone to your computer?
I always say no, and I have made sure that nothing is set to automatically sync when I plug in my iPhone (yes, I have checked that the apps are not set to sync). Anyways, I will say "don't transfer" and then it goes ahead and says "syncing iphone" and then it says "backing up iphone"... every single time I plug it in. Then, it will say it is backing up my voice memos, and it always gets stuck there and then iTunes on my computer locks up and has to be forced to quit (it was locked up for about 5 hours today). I can't update my iPhone, i can't change the content on there... it just immediately screws up like this. It's getting very frustrating.
Any help is appreciated.
Now, on a side note, I am not sure if this is causing anything to happen, but both my wife and I use the same computer to manage our iPhones on iTunes. I have an iTunes account, and she has an iTunes account. So, sometimes I notice that when I buy apps on my iPhone, it says that I am buying them under her account, and sometimes it says it is buying them under my account. I am guessing that whoever is logged into iTunes at the time I plug my phone in, my phone will automatically set itself to that account. Is that correct? Anyways, I think iTunes is saying that whatever apps that are on my phone that are not from the account that iTunes is currently logged in to, it wants to correct that and sync iTunes with my phone and make sure the same apps are on the computer as on my phone. Ahhrrrggg!
Please help!

As a start, create a new windows user account, log in, set up your iTunes account. Make sure that autosync is deactivated and back up manually by right clicking on your device and choosing "backup".
Do the same with "transfer purchases" to copy your apps and media to the new iTunes library.
If you made it that far without problems, set up at least one contact and event on your computer, to make sure contacts and events are merged after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
Restore the rest of the data from your manual backup and you should have no more problems separating your purchases and apps.
See what's included in the backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
I have come across some threads where users had problems transferring voice mail files during the backup made prior to a sync. They had to delete them to be able to complete the backup.

I have an iphone and it is obviously registered to my itunes so i have all my apps and music on it and my sister just got the new ipod touch and wants my apps and music and so i went to register it to my itunes to sync my music and apps to it just before her birthday but itunes crashed on one of the stages (the final stage i think) of registartion and so i had to close itunes and start it up again but it didnt give me the steps to register the ipod again and now when i connect it i go onto the ipod button and it is just blank with ipod written in the middle with no autofill buttons or sync buttons or any automatic fills and i cant drag music onto it either. Is there anything i can do?

    - You need to restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and start anew.  Is the restore button visable in iTunes?  If it is they restore the iPod.
    - If it is not visible try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - If the restore button is still not visable, try placing the iPod in recovry mode.  See:

  • I started backing up my iTunes library on DVDs

I started to back up my iTunes library on DVDs some time ago but ran out of DVDs.  I now have a new supply in but I can't access the back up option under file/library - it doesn't appear at all.  All I get access to is organise library, export library, export list.  Could this be because I stopped half-way through?  Can anybody tell me how to continue with my back up please?  Thanks a lot.

No it's because they made a change in the way you back up your Library. I haven't been able to get an answer as to how we are suppose to do it in the 10.4 version. If anyone knows how please share the information as it is really getting frustrating.

  • IPhone won't back up to iTunes

I had trouble on an old laptop when backing up my iPhone to iTunes, suddenly out of the blue it wouldn't work.  I tried all the suggestions, deleting old backups, uninstalling all apple products and reinstalling and still it was always hit and miss whether it would work or not.  Anyway cut to today I have bought a new laptop, installed iTunes connected my iPhone and it backed up. At last I thought.  Now just tried to backup again and it won't do it. Comes up with the iTunes can't back up this iPhone to your computer. Aargh. Please any ideas as I am desperate.  I need a backup of my phone before something goes wrong and I lose it all!

Here are Apple steps to this problem.

Some users post that you must remove the backup from both iTunes and the backup system folder.

  • Songs play for 2 seconds, then iTunes crashes

After updating to 7.7, iTunes suddenly doesn't like any of the songs in my music library. I can play a song for only two seconds before iTunes crashes. I CAN play song samples from the ITunes store just fine. Any ideas?

Since downloading the video from iTunes Music store my songs downloaded from Nusic Store will no longer play either. It prompts my to enter my password (which I have checked and changed) but they still will not play

  • HT201412 App starts to load then immediately crashes before opening.

I have an iPod Touch 3G.  When I try to load Facebook from either the app or Sarfari, it immediately crashes.  Also about a week ago, my photos were no longer availale through Facebook.  I can't up grade to a new version of Facebook as I don't have the proper opertion system.  Does anyone know what's happening?

    See:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    Restore to factory settings/new iPod
It appears you really have a 2G iPod. those can only go to iOS 4.2.1
    CAUTION
Before you restore the iPod make sure that your iTunes library has the version of apps that are presently installed on your iPod. Many apps have been update and the update apps are not compatible with the 2G iPod. I would do that by deleting the apps from your iTunes library and then transfer them to iTunes. See:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
Delete all apps that are on your iPod from your iPod and then transfer then from the iPod to the computer by:

You might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...
