Does anyone know when the iPhone will be available in Europe?

No other information is available at this time. I am sure they are busy trying to work out contracts with carriers in all the countries as we speak. Don't be surprised to see DeutscheTelefon/T-Mobile get the lions share.

If your phone is carrier locked, to use in Europe...as a phone & for data...would be extremely expensive. You'd have to get International Provisioning activated for your account, then pick a plan & pay through the nose. What many folks do is put their phones in Airplane mode, turn WiFi on & use available WiFi for their phone's data needs(although there are not nearly as many free WiFi spots in Europe as there are say in the US). If you want to make calls, you can either purchase a local phone with a pre-paid sim(they are cheap & readily available) or you could still get International Provisioning activated for your account, but turn cellular data off in settings on your phone. That way you could make/receive calls & SMS's but not incur hefty data charges.

A contract-free phone is not the same thing as an unlocked phone.
If you purchase it through a carrier, it will very likely be locked to that carrier.
In the US, Apple stores, and only Apple stores, sell unlocked phones. The same may hold true in Canada.
Also keep in mind that warranty service will only be available in the country where you purchased the phone (Canada) and you will have to either send it to a friend/family member to get it repaired or make the trip yourself. Apple will not accept a shipment from outside the country of purchase.
Finally, while an iPhone from one country will generally work anywhere in the world, you may find that you do not get 4G speeds/full compatibility with a network outside of the country of purchase.

My experience with their custome service has generally been good and the answers generally accurate. I know that they did change the requirement that phone roam on CDMA, if available. Apple added a switch to turn that off in 5.1. I don't know if that counts as "changing their story" or simply deciding it made for fewer unhappy customers.
The nice man in Global Support gave me a couple of disclaimers (only one unlock per number per year and Verizon would not be responsible for any customer/technical support while I was using a different SIM). The whole process was quick and painless.

It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
To answer your questions,
1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.

It works, but there's limitations from what I've seen. Certain portal functions don't work well in general outside of internet explorer, and same goes for WAD objects. I haven't seen any acknowledgement of what does and doesn't work, but it's worth playing around with.
In our scenario, I can tell you that we can launch reports via an internal Google Site, pass credentials via single sign-on, and render web reports on the iphone. Drop down menus don't work properly, color condisitons don't show up (same in Firefox), but lots of things do function properly.

I am connected so I ran diagnostics which verifies my Network Interface but Internet Connection Failed as did secure link to Itunes store.
In addition whenever I go into Itunes after a few seconds my AOL home page keeps popping up.
As you see my ISP is AOL and my connection is through a Netgear wifi router.
Please advise appropriate action

Research kit is a development platform for app developers, it is not an iOS app. It is open source and available worldwide from GitHub. It does require XCode 6.3 and the iOS SDK version 8.
Health Apps developed using Research Kit will be under the control of whomever develops a given app. App developers control the distribution of their individual apps.

You need to use the credentials for the iCloud account that was used to turn on the Find my iPhone service.
If you can't remember yours, you can recover it here: https://iforgot.apple.com/appleid
If you've been walking around for 2 years with someone else's account set up for Find my iphone, then you'll have to get hold of that individual. If you can't, there is no way to bypass activation lock.

If they are in photos view then they are in an event unless you have a corrupted library
How are you"merging" the photos?
most common issue is either bad sort (view menu ==> sort events) or bad camera dates
select one and show event to see the event

What does it take to use an iphone 5 in Europe?

I live in the US and am going to Italy in a few weeks (just for 10 days or so) and I have just purchased an Iphone 5 with a data plan (not interrnational plan). I was told once in Italy it would work if I go under 1. general settings 2. hit roaming on next screem 3. For International CDMA turn on. I understand calls are very expensive once the international roaming is turned and I only plan to 2 or 3 calls of an emergency nature. The phone will be turned off the rest of the time I am in Europe.
So will this work?

To the best of my knowledge, there are no CDMA carriers at all in Europe.
If you have an unlocked iPhone 5 or a Verizon iPhone 5 (the SIM slot is unlocked on the Verizon iPhone 5) you can just pick up a local SIM when you arrive in Italy and put it in the phone. There are companies that sell special plans and SIM cards for travellers that often include data and a U.S. phone number that your friends back home can call and be routed through to you, and some even include free or low cost calling to the U.S.
You can also ask your carrier about what international plans they have available for you to use while travelling.
