Iphone back ups

Hi, when I back up my iphone (4S iOS7) to my mac, presumably it only backs up the actual data on the phone at that time (ie not any of the deleted files that may still reside on the disk), and this back up file overwrites the previous back up file, is this correct?
I assume that this then means that if I was trying to recover any deleted texts etc, that if I have backed up since deleting the information from the phone, the texts etc won't be in the back up either.
I've also upgraded from iOS6 to iOS7 since the text, and may have done a factory reset at some point too, so is there anyway of retrieving the data, as I understand that when you upgrade/reset the data on the phones disk is also overwritten.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for that - sim card now in and all details safe. Next question - on the General, Settings, Phone page my number is showing the phone number that came with the phone even though my carrier has tranferred my old number to the new sim card - any ideas how to change it?

  • How do I move my iPhone back ups to a new computer which is already using iTunes for a different device?

I have backed up my children's iDevices to my work computer. Now that my wife has a new computer, she wants to be able to manage their devices from home. Of course, she is already using her computer to manage her iPhone.
Is there a way to move my iTunes library files to my wife's computer so that it will recognize both her iPhone as well as our children's iDevides, without losing any data, playlists, etc.?
    TIA

No. You cannot join the two libraries. She can make a copy of your iTunes library on her computer, then switch libraries when opening iTunes if she needs to handle the other devices. Note that everything you have downloaded for your kids on your computer are connected to your Apple ID. Your wife cannot transfer anything to her Apple ID.
Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.

  • HT1766 how do i combine 2 iphone back ups into one, i had an iphone 4 and now have a 5s but need to back up the 4 contect into the 5s

I has an iphone4 that i last backed up in July. I got a new 5s when i activated the 5s i forgort to first update the Iphone4. I went back and updadted the iphone 4. Now how do I get that info over to the iphone 5s.

You cannot combine backups. You can only use one or the other. Your first problem is the fact that you had not backed up the phone since July. When did you get the 5s? When you activated the 5s, did you set it up as new or did you restore from the old iPhone 4 backup? Did you set the 5s up as new and begin using it and you want to keep the data on the 5s and add the data from the 4? If that is the case, it cannot be done. When you restore from a backup, you wipe all the data off the device and take it back to the date of the backup. All newer data is erased.
Maybe I'm confused, but what are you saying that you "went back and updated the iPhone 4"?

  • Can I extract photos and/or contacts from iPhone back-ups?

My daughter backed up her iphone to my MacBook in May as Krista's iPhone. In June she dropped & broke her iphone, I backed it up again but the back-up displayed Unknown 12/31/00. She purchased another original iPhone I activated it & used the Krista's iPhone from May.
I tried to use the Unknown back-up but failed it said "either corrupted or older firmware."
She lost 100+ iPhone photo's & recent business contacts.
My question is - I can see the Unknown back-up is there any software that will allow me to extract the photos or contacts --
    Thanks artwhitt

I don't think it is backing up that stuff...mine is only 86 MB although I have 11gb worth on it...
I think you have to back up all content separately...the backup is ?just settings?
I forget to back up pics I take on the phone so I have iphoto open automatically when I connect it to the computer...I still have to import manually though.
Contacts...I think you may be able to. But don't know how.

  • Is there a way to find old ( iPhone) back ups from iTunes

    where are they stored (mac)

    You're welcome.
    FYI:
iTunes only keeps ONE normal backup, per device. It's actually an incremental backup, in that only data that has changed is actually backed up. Any other backups listed would be backups from restore points. These backups are time/date stamped and are not overwritten.

  • Can i merge two iPhone back ups?

I updated my iphone 4 to IOS5 and my adress book got deleted, can merge the newest backup that has all my notes and apps to my older backup that has my contact list? or how can I transfer my address book to my mac? i'm having a hard time doing this please help, step by step

Got it. You can match the dates of the other two (from iTunes > Preferences > Devices tab) with the modified dates of the folders within the Backups folder in the above location. Hopefully, you can recover the missing one from an external HDD backup/Time Machine, etc.
Note that iTunes only maintains one backup of each device - if a sync is cancelled during the backup, for example, that backup is corrupted and will not show up as available when performing a Restore.

  • Ipad - Iphone back ups

Hello, I want to know how to make my security copies for ipad/ iphone on another hard disk different from C: because these backups gets the disk completely full and deteriorating pc performance. Thank you

There is no supported way in iTunes to move the location of the device backups.
You can physically move the files.
From what I've seen posted on these forums, attempts to link to a directory on another drive results in no backups.
Move your library if you need space or acquire a large hard drive.

  • IPhone back ups in computer

When I bought my iPhone months ago I loaded my music in it thru iTunes, and never synched again. Then I have kept using it and now I have a whole lot of information, mostly in my calendar and my contacts areas, that I haven't syncronized with the computer. If I syncronize my iPhone for example with an empty Oulook 2003, will this move my iPhone information to Outlook, or will my iPhone info be lost and replaced by the Outlook's emptiness instead? HELP!!

did you sync the iPhone with iTunes before you merged everything with outlook
if so restore from backup and everything will be there or if you synced the iPhone at some point when you had all your contacts you can restore from backup and you'll have you contacts but i don't know if you will still have your most recent calendar events

  • Recover pictures from corrupted, encrypted iPhone back up

    Hi,
I have an issue with trying to get the pictures from the Camera Roll off my last Iphone 4 back up, prior to upgrading to the Iphone 4S.
I backed up to iTunes prior to changing phones.  Stupidly I encrypted it not realising the consequences of this later down the line.
I am now trying to utilise the back up by putting it on the 4S but iTunes goes so far and then states that the back up is corrupt or not compatable with the phone.  I then tried to put the back up onto my old IPhone 4S and it did not work either.
Aware that there are a number of products out there on the market that will be able to delve into the Iphone back ups stored on an Imac, I have not come across one of these that is able to to this to an encrypted back up.
         I have a few questions:
Is it worth trying to put the back up on the Iphone 4 that I took it off as this is now my girlfirends phone and I will have to convince her to give it back to me?
Is there anyway of repairing the back up?
Is there a product that will allow me to get into an encrypted back up?
What I am running is as follows.
Imac OSX Lion with latested update and updated Iphoto, Itunes.
    Iphone 4S - IOS 5
    Help much appreciated.

No, sorry.  Unless they are saved or backed up somewhere else, they are gone.  Did you use iCloud backup?  If so, the camera roll pics should be in that iCloud backup.

  • Can I have multiple iPhones with unique back ups using one icloud account?

    Hello forum users,
Can I have multiple iPhones with unique back ups using one icloud account?
I would like to back up and restore 4 different iPhones, 1 iPad, a MacBook and 1 MacBook Pro using the same single iCloud account.
If so, how is this done?
    Many thanks

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address).  While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud.  You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

  • I lost my iphone in the water I bought a new one 4S now I have 2 back ups in Icloud, the one for the new Iphne and the old Iphone where I have the most info I need. How I can download my old backup?

I lost my iphone in the water I bought a new one 4S now I have 2 back ups in Icloud, the one for the new Iphne and the old Iphone where I have the most info I need. How I can download my old backup?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You cannot download a backup from iCloud, the only way to access it is to restore to the backup with your new phone, which you should have done when you first connected it. If you restore now, you will lose all the new information you have added to your new phone.

The phone can receive calls (not answer) & the pictures & messages can be seen but the touch screen doesn't work to unlock the phone or select anything. We want to save/transfer pictures, contacts, and music to the replacement phone.

Try backing it up to your computer with iTunes.  Connect it to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of the phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now.  Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer you apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library.

  • Can the iPhone 6 save 2 iCloud back-ups?

I changed my phone recently. The 2 phones are using different accounts for iCloud. Can the iPhone 6 keep the 2 back-ups at the same time without erasing the content of any of them? If so, how to?

if you phone arrived damaged you should have notified the seller immediately by phone.
if the phone did not arrive damaged, the you damaged it.  Dropping the phone is not the only way.
