Iphone backup / restoring!!

Hi guys,
wondering if someone could help.
My Iphone and a few others are all backed up to the same itunes account.
Is it possible for example, that if somebody else gets a new iphone device, they can restore my last backup (backup my iphone created) onto there new device? Or would it ask for the apple ID in which the backup was created? Or a passcode or something?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.

You can encrypt the backup which will force entry of the correct password before a restore. More information in iTunes: About iOS backups

Does anyone know how to restore your backup after the "restore iphone backup" option is gone, Without having to restore the phone again

Turn the iPhone off by holding the top key then sliding to OFF.
The Hold the Home KEY only while connecting to iTunes.
The iPhone will then need to be restored and you can choose from where to restore it from. It should pop up when you click restore with the option. If not then hold Control or Option on a Mac while you click Restore.

  • IPhone Backup / Restore questions

Maybe this has been covered here, but I am confused about backing up the data on my new iPhone -
    1) When iTunes says "backing up iPhone" before the sync . . . what is it backing up? Contacts? Music? Pictures? Applications?
    2) What does Restore do? It seems to indicate you will lose all of your data on the phone if you run restore.
    3) If I replace my phone . . . or Apple does at some point for a battery . . . will the Backup/Restore features in iTunes restore all of my contacts, music, pictures and applications to the new phone?
While most things with the iPhone seem pretty intuitive, this whole process has me confused.
    Dave

The backup that is created and maintained by iTunes stores data such as most iPhone settings, email account settings, SMS messages, notes created with the Notes application, recent calls, call favorites, data created and stored by 3rd party applications, and photos captured by your iPhone.
No need to backup iTunes content since your iTunes content remains on your computer and should be included with your computer's backup.
Regarding contact information and calendar events, the iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. The exception to this is with an Exchange account or MobileMe account, which provides for over the air syncing with this data.
With Vista, you can sync contact information and calendar events with Outlook 2003 or 2007, or Windows Contacts for contact information.
A Restore completely erases your iPhone followed by re-installing the current firmware version. After the current firmware version is re-installed, you are prompted to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup (which is the default selection), or as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
This must be followed by a sync with iTunes to re-transfer data not included with your iPhone's backup such as all iTunes content, 3rd party applications, contact information, calendar events, bookmarks, and photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone.

The restore didnt fix my problem.

  • Question on iphone backup & restoring on another persons itunes.

I backed up my iphone on my sisters computer with all her files like music, photos, movies, & so on, because I have to get a replacement for a damaged phone
My question now is, when i come to restore the new iphone will all my phones entire data and files like contacts, photos, music, apps and so on still show up jusy like they did on the old damaged phone?

A back up stores many things if you would like to know what it stores this link will tell you:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
Now whatever was on the iPhone when it backed up should return when restoring the back up of the old iPhone to the replacement.
In terms of content downloaded from the iTunes & App Store this content is saved to iTunes through a feature caled transfer Purchases. Now this can happen during a back up but might not have. If this content was tranferred to iTunes on your sisters PC then it should sync back to the iPhone after you restore from back up. If it does not sync back to the iPhone you can still redownload the content as all purchases paid/free are attached to the Apple ID the were downloaded with.

  • How to us iPhone backup file from Time Machine drive to restore iPhone

Stupidly, I deleted my primary account on my iPhone that contained my contacts and calendar. I don't currently subscribe to MobileMe. I took advantage of the free service when I bought my phone, but decided not to subscribe as I synch my iPhone to my computer and back up my computer using a hard drive connected with Time Machine. Unfortunately, when I stopped using MobileMe, a synch to my iTunes wiped out all my contact data in my Address Book on my computer and my calendar. Therefore, all my most current information was on my iPhone.
I went to the Apple store and was told that the iTunes backup file may be used to restore the contacts and calendar information on my iPhone. I synched my iPhone to iTunes and then did the iPhone restore to factory settings. Only then did I realize that the older, correct backup file was not an available option in the dropdown.
So, I'm trying to figure out how to pull an older iPhone backup file and then use it to restore the iPhone. The only thing is that when I go to Time Machine and look at an older Library --> Application Support --> Mobile Sync --> Backup folder, there's a whole bunch of .mdbackup files in there.
How do I select what I need? How do I get the iTunes protocol to run the restore on my iPhone using those files?

Select the folder that contains the .mdbackup files and use Get Info for the folder to check the date the backup was updated. I would forget about trying to extract individual .mdbackup files and transfer the entire folder to the same location on your computer's hard drive - with iTunes quit before doing so.
After doing so, this backup should be available to select when restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup.
If this is successful restoring contact info and calendar events on your iPhone, if the Address Book and iCal on your Mac is empty - it does not contain any data, before syncing your iPhone direct with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac, enter one unique contact in the Address Book, and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select.
Does Time Machine include a backup of your Address Book and iCal on your Mac? If so, it will be much easier and faster to restore the Address Book and iCal on your Mac from your Time Machine backup.

  • Can't restore individual iPhone backup file via Time Machine

    Hello,
I was hoping someone here might be able to assist me. I seem to have lost my iPhone backup file, but when I access the backup files in time capsule under user, in library under mobilesync, I can't even make it that far in time capsule, all I get to is a sparse image file of the username, is there a way I can access these files without a complete restore?
    Thanks!

If you mean you're using the Finder, that's not how to restore from Time Machine.

  • How can I restore an old iPhone backup from Time Machine?

    Hi there,
I lost my iPhone 4S but have a extra iPhone 4 (used for travel) that I would like to restore the 4S backup to.
The problem is that the backup of my 4S has somehow disappeared from itunes and the only one that shows up is the iPhone 4 backup even though they are set up as different devices with different names. I know that the backup for my 4S is included with my Time Machine backups (on external harddrive) but I can't find the files. Also very strange is that I don't have the folder "MobileSync" in /Library/Application Support/MobileSync on my computer. I can't find that folder anywhere.
My computer is less that 6 months old and I know that I have not deleted that folder or any other that are preinstalled.
I'm using OS X 10.9.4 and I don't want to restore my hole computer from Time Machine, just the files that hold my 4S backup.
Also note that I have not backed up everything from my 4S phone to iClould so that's not an option.
    I've tried everything including:
    - Restoring the settings on the iPhone 4 to factory settings and then connecting to itunes.
    - Deleting itunes and restoring it from Time Machine at a date that i knew had the original iphone backup.
Who ever can solve this for me deserves a gold medal. I'm truly desperate. I've searched all forums and haven't found a solution for this.
    Thanks.

    Correct.
You need to go to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/.
The ~ indicates your User folder not the top level /Library/ folder.
Click on the desktop, then hold Option and go to Finder menu Go and Library will be there (only when holding Option as it is hidden).

The iCloud backup includes most things except non-iTunes purchased but the iTunes backup does not include those either. For what iCloud includes see:

  • How do I backup/restore multiple IPhone on one computer

    Hi everyone
Need some help here. I work as a helpdesk and recently most of the IPhones are now due for upgrade. What is the best way to backup the data from old Iphone and restore to new Iphone for multiple users on one computer?  Basically everyone expects to hand me their old phone and new phone, and when they get the new phone back, the new phone will have the same data as it was on the old one.
I have done backup/restore just for myself before. Is there a easier way to do for multiple users on the same computer?
    Any input will be appreciated
    Thanks
    Charlie

First of all, thanks for quick reply.
How about backup to icloud and then restore from icloud?  I did not bring it up because I do not want the backup/restore to cripple to network.
I would normally ask the users to take their old phone and new phone to AT&T store or Apple store to get it done. But as I work in corp office, and all I dealt with are the CEO, CFO, etc. They want the upgrade process done and without them getting involved (I try to keep it that way to make them happy).
    any thoughts?

  • If I restored my new iPhone from iCloud backup, and I delete the old iPhone backup to make room on iCloud to back up my new phone, will it delete everything on the new phone?

If I restored my new iPhone from iCloud backup, and I delete the old iPhone backup to make room on iCloud to back up my new phone, will it delete everything on the new phone?

I have this exact same issue.  Replaced my iPhone 4s with the new iPhone 5s, setting up my new iPhone 5s to restore from iCloud.  This completed and now I am unable to delete my old iPhone 4s iCloud backup (consuming 15.1 GB of my 20GB allocation).  How can I delete it, so that I get my 15 GB back?  I am not going to invest in additional iCloud storage, because I will be 15 GB down from the off.

  • How do I recover my password for restoring an iPhone backup using itunes?

I used the "encrypt backup" password protection feature in iTunes for my iPhone when I set it up years ago.  I have a 3Gs, just downloaded and installed iOS5, and it's asking me for my password to restore the backup onto my iPhone with the new operating system only I forgot that specific password and there doesn't appear to be any "lost password" functionality.  Please note, this is different than the standard Apple ID username and password...this is specific to encrypting iPhone backups in iTunes...I have my Apple ID username and password.  Does anyone know if there is a way to recover or reset the password protected encrypt backup password so I can restore my latest backup and not have to start from scratch with everything...PLEASE?

    Hey Gremlin,
Can you let me know if Apple fix the issue? I lost a heap of pics from when my daughter was born (well technically I still have them, it's just that they're unintelligible garble).
Oh and if you're worried about iTunes deleting your backup, they're located in your home account (if you're using a Mac). Just go to:
    Macintosh HD/Users/<your_username>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/backup
Copy the files to another location and you should be right. I don't know how you get iTunes to recognise them if you put them back though, haven't tried that yet.
    Regards,
    Chris
PS. I've made a couple of posts about this, some of the info there may help. One thing though, I don't think the password is restricted to 4 digits as mentioned there. Can anyone confirm that?

  • IPhone 4s backup restoring on iPad 2?

I have a iPhone 4s,  I just purchased an iPad 2. Can I restore my iPhone backup to my iPad so I can play my games without losing any progress and have the sync between both devices?

I successfully restored the iPhone backup to the iPad but I did have a number of issues. But I was able to solve them
    1.  The iOS on the iPhone was 5.1. The iPad was stil 5.01 so I had to upgrade that before I could do anything
    2.  The iPhone was 64gb iPad 16gb. So the first few times it didn't take but it did on the third try. After the program data was transferred over. I had 8gb of "other data" before I even had any apps, music, or video on the iPad.  I figured out what apps were the ones that had all of their data on the iPad already without the app. I installed those apps and deleted the "other" data. Which gave me the use of the rest of the memory.
    3.  The photo albums would not delete off of the iPad but after switching the photo directory to sync and then deleting them. Everything was fine.
    4.  I had to disassociate the iPad with my computer for the app Documents to go. The computer got confused because the iPhone and iPad were the same device and it wouldn't work.
A few bumps but all of my application data and game setting and progress is right.
