IPhone battery discharges even when turned off since iOS 5.1.1

Since updating to iOS 5.1.1 I have had battery problems, discharging at around 4% per hour even when not used. Turning off every concieveable service and reloaded iOS as a new device unfortunately has not solved the problem. I have resorted to leaving the phone plugged in all of the time and recently started to turn it off overnight. To my surprise, the phone continues to discharge when turned off! I couldn't find this problem when I searched (apologies if I didn't search hard enougth!)

I have been waiting for months for the next iOS to see if it would rectify my battery drain problem but I continued to have the battery discharge problem after installing iOS6 .
My Home button has been playing up with random no responses and random double clicks, so I replaced the home button hoping that may also address the battery drain issue - no joy.
Then I had a look to see if I had added any Apps when the problem first appeared at the time of upgrading to iOS5.1.1. (You can view Apps by date in iTunes on the iPhone Apps tab.)
It turns out that on about the same day as the iOS 5.1.1 update I also added the Lifesize ClearSea video conferencing App. Today I disabled the App in iTunes (unchecked it) and resynced the iPhone. I believe this removes the App from the phone whilst leaving it in my iTunes so I can add it back easily. For the first time in months my phone is now cold rather than luke warm.
Superficially at least it seems that ClearSea has been running in the background, even when manually quitted and even when the iPhone was powered OFF! I will report back in a few days to confirm this was the culprit.
Five months with a phone that barely lasts a day has been a real pain...

  • 3gs fast battery discharge even when powered off

I have a 3gs (not jailbroken) which discharges the battery really quickly to the point where it cannot be recharged.  It discharges the battery to the point where it won't take a charge, even if fully powered off.  I have replaced the battery twice and upgraded to ios 5, setup as a new phone. Still nothing.  I am out of ideas, is there anyone who can assist please?
    Not under warranty
    Using latest version of itunes

Any number of things could have gone wrong. Dirt or some conductive material could have fallen into the phone and be shorting something out. Any number of components could have been damaged in such a way as to cause a short.
Apple offers a reasonably priced battery replacement program for iPhones. That would have been the best route to take. Since it's been opened, I doubt you'd be able to go that route now.
It's also possible that the battery you got is NOT up to the specs it was supposedly rated for.

Do you place the ipod in the dock during the night? I did this once and the other day the battery was almost empty because it kept on playing after it rested in the dock.

  • Satellite P855-10G runs out of battery even when turned off

    Hi everyone,
I have bought the Toshiba Satellite P855-10G, but im terrified because he runs out of battery even when turned off..
Anyone knows how can i solve the issue?
    Best regards,
    Igor Tarelho

    Hi
Access the BIOS and turn OFF the options like: Waking up on LAN and Keyboard.
In Toshiba HW Setup I recommend disabling the USB Sleep and Charge function as well
Both enabled options might allow discharging the battery even if the unit is OFF

  • Should iphone 4 receive messages when turned off and display them when switched back on

should iphone 4 receive messages when turned off and display them when switched back on

It's up to the cellular carrier, but I believe most (if not all) will enqueue the messages when your iPhone is off.
So generally speaking, a few minutes after you turn your iPhone on, your messages should display.  Similarly, your voicemails would arrive.

  • My new iPhone 4S loses battery life even when switched off?

Purchased a new iPhone just last week.
I drained the battery completely and then full cycle charged it. Disabled Siri, location, apps, notifications etc.
So far I have been very conservative with my iPhone making phone calls and texts only.
Just started to notice these past 3 days that i lose 2-3% of battery life even when my iPhone is switched off..
    How is this even possible?
Any help or advice on how i can solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro battery discharge even when the charger is plugged in?

I've been having a myriad of problems with my MacBook Pro's battery. The main problem is that when in use, the battery steadily discharges often at a very quick rate even when I have the charger plugged in, the only way I can get it to recharge is to close the lid or turn the computer off, however, it has recently started to take a very long time to recharge (I left it for 12 hours and it charged from 0% to 60%). I also noticed that while off, the charger light occassionaly goes green and then back to orange every few minutes. When I manage to get the battery up to 100% charge, it usually stays at 'Charged' for around 5 or 10 minutes and then it just comes up with 'Calculating...' as it slowly discharges, it also occassionaly claims that it is recharging and that it will take around 6 to 8 hours but it only charges about 1% of the battery and switches to 'Not charging'. Also, sometimes the charger light wont come on when it is plugged in and the Mac refuses to acknowledge it is plugged in for some time.
I took it to the Apple Store a few months ago and one of the Geniuses reset the System Management controller and did a quick hardware test which seemed to fix it but the problems returned soon after, I cannot enter the hardware test screen and subsequent attempts to reset the SMC have done nothing, he also tested the charger and tried it with another charger but it did not help.  Hope you guys can help me as I am completely stumped by this and its beginning to annoy me as my Mac is becoming almost unusable.

  • Bug that allows match to use cellular data even when turned off in settings?

Earlier today, I mysteriously incurred overage charges on my phone bill because 200MB of data was used while I was on my bicycle. My phone was in my bag. Before I left, I had tried to download an album to my phone from iTunes match cloud storage. It would not download, so I left. Cellular data was turned off in iTunes match settings. Has anyone encountered Match overriding that setting? All cellular data settings for the app store were off and I was not running any GPS function.

I have the exact same problem!
I'm using the iPhone 5 now under Carrier M1 Singapore 13.0 and I have noted that over a period of 2 weeks, my cellular data usage has been about 2.7GB on an average. Since I know my bill has been capped at 3GB, I have since switched off my cellular data.
However, when I switched it on for a few days after using it for awhile, my cellular usage jumped by 1.2GB in just 1 day! And I used it as I would on an average day (like during an average day in the 2 weeks)!
I understand that there have been reports of a bug that have caused this problem in the US.

    http://www.iphonehacks.com/2012/10/iphone-5-cellular-data-usage-over-wifi-bug-on -other-carriers.html
But I'm hoping that there's a solution for those living in Singapore? Do I seek the help from my carrier as well? But if it's a problem with the phone, then my carrier definitely would not help, right?

  • Ipod Dies overnight EVEN WHEN TURNED OFF

    Background info:
The Ipod after fully charging can last around 8-9 hours of USE (straight music playing) so the battery seems to me like it is fine as it holds a nice long charge of use.
BUT when I turn it off fully charged as I go to sleep, it will be dead in the morning. Its like it uses the same amount of battery whether its playing music or turned off. Now I know its supposed to be using some battery because the pod is not fully 'off' but clearly it should not be dying at the same rate it is playing.
I have done the 5 Rs to no avail. I thought I had found the problem from an alarm I had set because on a different forum people said that can drain battery along with calender alarms. Made sure I had none of these turned on even tried the 5 Rs again and after all of this still no go.
Is the only explanation that my battery is dead? Then why does it hold such a long charge? And I would hate to buy a battery replacement only to find out that it is something else. It ***** because my warranty is long expired and I cant even post at the apple forums (unless I am just dumb and cant find the 'New Thread' button.
But does anyone have any solutions? It is REALLY bugging me.

Do you place the ipod in the dock during the night? I did this once and the other day the battery was almost empty because it kept on playing after it rested in the dock.

  • Ken Burns effect remains even when turned off

I'm having huge problems viewing slideshows with iPhoto 5. I cannot get the Ken Burns effect off, even when it is not selected, and when I select a small number of photos to show, and click view slideshow, the music starts, but only the first photo appears. Has anyone else seen these problems? I've tried replacing the iPhoto preferences, but that did not help. Thanks.

Thank you for responding. I guess I did not pay strict attention to turning off the Ken Burns effict in both places. One other thing that made it peculiar was that the first slide would display and then it would wait for several seconds before showing the next slide even though I had set it to display each slide for only 2 seconds. I'm wondering why that was? Could Spotlight have been indexing the drive and slowing things down? It seems OK now. Also, strangely still, when I click on the red X to close the window of iPhoto, then entire application quits. The whole thing is acting quirky. Comments most welcome. Thanks again.

  • Mini fan runs even when turned off

Yesterday the fan started running loudly (seemingly top speed) and it won't stop even when the computer is turned off (only way to kill it is to pull the power cord). The vents on the bottom have a bit of fuzz on them, but nothing outrageous. Other than working on the motherboard (which I'm not capable of doing), what can I try? I did reset PRAM...nothing changed.
    Thanks!

Is the power/sleep light on or off when the Mini is "off" but the fan is running?
If the light is "on" in some fashion, can you start the Mini by pressing the Menu button of your Apple Remote once?
If you can't do this, I fear you have a logic board problem similar to the one first diagnosed by brisbanebazza:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9524465#9524465
Unless you know someone who can do electronics soldering, generally the fix for this would be to replace the logic board, which is usually too expensive to be economical in my opinion.
BTW, no harm in gently vacuuming the fuzz out of the vents, with the Mini closed up, not open.
After you vacuum, you might also try something wacky: try running the mini upside down for a short period of time.

  • Windows 8 Requires a Password on Wakeup even when turned off

I have turned off "Require password after wakeup" everywhere I could find.
I've disabled it in regular power settings (clickable link on the left) and for the current power scheme I'm using.
Still whenever I open the lid on my laptop and my computer wakes up, it keeps asking me for a password.
    Is this a known bug?
I thought it might be because I was using a Windows Live account, but it still occurs with my local account.
Windows + Q doesn't open Power Options for me, it goes to the app screen.
I have no "Troubleshooting" options available to me.
Mind you that I'm running the RTM version because our company is a Microsoft partner and this version has been made available to us, so the options you mention may be missing or in other places.
Okay, let's continue with what I've tried. I've disabled the "Require password on wakeup" setting in Group Policies, but the problem persists. When I go to the regular power options it shows "some settings can't be changed due to restrictions
on the computer" so I know the GPOs are working.
The comboboxes for battery and plugged in both show NO for the "require password" option. I've also used the User Account troubleshooting tool from the Release Preview and it shows no problems with my account.
So it seems to me there has been an unfortunate change in the RTM if this problem doesn't occur in the Release Preview.
Maybe it's time to submit a bug, but I don't know how, I would just like this to be fixed.

    Hi,
I tested on my computer that is running Windows 8, but I havenot encountered the same issue.  Could you please test the following thing.
    1. Disable Require Password after wake up in Power Options.
    2. Manually make the computer into Sleep Mode by the Power options in Charm bar rahter than close the lid.
    3. Wake up the computer and check whether the issue persists.

  • Mac Pro Power Supply making noise (even when turned off)

    Hi everyone,
My Mac Pro Early 2008 (Dual quad core 2,8) began to make noise a while ago and it drives me mad.
The sound is (100% sure) coming from the Power Supply. The sound is not mechanical, but electrical, like an oscillator crackle sort of.
First I thought it was the PSU itself, so I had it replaced with a new one, but that did not change the situation.
The (new) PSU makes excactly the same noise, even when my computer is turned off (but still connected to the power socket in the wall).
I've eliminated all possible factors that could create an interference (other electrical devices).  I even completely switched off the power of my office, except for one power socket; the one I used to test the Mac.  As soon as I connected the Mac, as soon the noise came back. So, it's got to be inside the Mac.
So my question is: if it's not the PSU, nor the power of my office, what could it be?
PS: I've tried a UPS too... but that did not change a bit.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

Do you have any suggestions? is it safe to find a program to regulate the fan of the power supply down or can this damage the system?
