IPhone battery is weird and phone won't turn on.

Hello, I'm having some problems with my new iphone (4s) and I need some assissstance. I recently received a new iphone via insurance (My old iphone broke) and it wont turn back on. I first noticed a problem started when I plugged it in to charge the battery life went down instead of up. I disregarded this because people said it needed to "calibrate itself" and to "let it die on it's own" so i let it die, I immediatly regret that descion. Now, with constant charging throughout the night it still shows no sign of life. I've tried everything i can think of like: Plugging into computer, plugging into wall, holding power button, holding HOME + POWER button, holding power +home + letting go of power button but still holding home button. I'm lost! what can I do? Should I have it taken in? Also, it's worth mentioning that itunes won't recognize it either, meaning it doesnt even think anything is plugged in.
Thanks a mil,

Hello Snorrris1234,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on.  You have taken some really good steps already, and I found an article with additional steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below (you can skip the steps you have already taken):
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • I dropped my iphone 4 on concrete and it won't turn on

About an hour ago, i dropped my iPhone on the cement and it won't turn on. I tried restarting it, but that didn't work. Right now it is on the charger. What do I do?

Take it to Apple and get an out of warranty replacement. Be prepared to pay for it.

  • I was in the middle of updating my iphone 4 (? version 10.1) when an error message appeared. Screen now frozen with apple logo, empty bar below and phone won't turn on or off

I have a frozen screen (black with the apple logo & an empty bar below) following an error message that appeared during an update of version 10.1 on my iphone 4.
I am not able to turn off the phone (or on!) Any ideas?

The iPod Touch kept trying to reboot yesterday but would only show the Apple logo screen then shut off - it finally drained the battery overnight I am guessing. Connected to USB the battery charging icon flashes.
Took it back to Best Buy, but they wouldn't touch it or replace it since it's under warranty.
To any potential buyers - beware. My best advice is to look somewhere besides Apple. Every Mac user I know has had to return a Mac, laptop, etc. Really poor quality control, and the retailers agree (Geek Squad told me they have had the same experience with Apple products).

  • Clock is frozen and phone won't turn on

I have a BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8200 Series.
I bought it about 4 weeks ago (probably mid-May) through Amazon.com.
    TMobile is the service provider.
Last week WiFi stopped working.  I was unable to check the WiFi box on the Connections page.  I went to TMobile and they said they had seen this before on this phone.  They removed the battery, put back in the battery, and then the WiFi box could be checked.  Presumably the latest version of the software was sent to the phone at that time.
Last night, I plugged my phone in to the wall for charging.  Now (11:30am PT), I've unplugged my phone.  The front display shows the battery is fully charged, WiFi is connected, and I have messages.  The front clock display has been stuck at Wed 17th 7:50am for at least an hour.  When I open the phone, it does not power on.  I've pushed and held the RED button and the GREEN button several times.  Nothing works to turn the phone on.  It's frozen.
The online technical support has nothing to offer on the keyword "frozen" or "won't turn on."  Can anyone here offer advice?
Presumably this phone is covered under warranty.  Can I exchange it for one that actually works?!

I'm not capable of installing or deleting apps.
No clue as to the version #.  The most recent s/w was downloaded last week when I went to the TMobile store about the WiFi problem.
Do you not find it ridiculous that the phone has to be re-booted this frequently?

  • My iPhone died while charging and it won't turn back on

My iPhone 4 died while in the middle of charging. I had it charging on my speakers and when i left it, it was on 30% and charging. I came back an hour later and the screen was black and it would not turn on. I've tried holding the power and home button and tried plugging it into the wall to charge it instead of the speakers. If it matters, I recently updated it to iOS6.

I am having the same issue.  I am currently in the process of trying to downgrade back to iOS5 until they can fix the issues.  There seem to be a multitude of issues with this latest upgrade.  I did find out earlier that unplugging your phone and holding the top button and home button at the same timne works BUT it must be unplugged AND you have to hold it a long time (almost 2 minutes for mine) and sometimes it takes multiple times for it to catch.  I was almost in tears and it finally worked.
I am restoring the phone to the oldest iCloud restoration date allowed (unfortunately only 2 days ago) but hopefully that was before I upgraded.  I don't remember when I did it .  Hopefully this works.

  • I turned iPhone automatic backup off and it won't turn back on.

Ok. So I previously turned off automated backups on iphone. I didn't know there was a gui option to do this so I typed in the terminal command.
defaults write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
This worked. Yet, for some reason, I can't get the opposite command to work (replacing "true" with "false") and I no longer have the right click contextual menu in itunes to manually backup.
Frankly,  a little scary to not be able to backup because I mess with the phone a lot.
PS Any solutions? I haven't recieved any errors through itunes, it is just a lack of options.

You have to get rid of the key AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled.
    Paste this in the Terminal:
    defaults delete com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled

My 5S just started doing this on Thursday: every fraction of a second or so it oscillates between connecting and disconnecting with the charger (USB or wall, doesn't matter). Since it's still under the limited warrantee, I took it to the local Mac dealer (I live in a small town w/out an Apple store) and they shipped it off. I'm waiting now for the replacement--telephonless, too!
What concerns me is that many people seem to be having this issue.
You were right to be suspicious of the Apple store employees. Once they replicated the behavior that you experienced, they should have immediatly offered to exchange your phone. Anything else, in my opinion, is unacceptable. As long as your phone is still doing it, I'd go back, ask for the manager and tell them to exchange your phone.

  • HT4623 just updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, now my phone won't turn back on. The apple logo comes on and sits then shuts off. I have held down the home button and on/off switch several times to reset, but same problem persists.

Place iPhone on Wall Charger for at least 10 minutes. Then keep on charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, this can take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons while on charger. If still problem, open iTunes 10.7 on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, then click Restore button of iTunes. If still problem, try DFU Mode Restore, here are the steps. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. DFU Mode can be difficult to enter sometimes, just keep trying. DFU Mode is a black, blank screen with iTunes saying Recovery Mode. If still problem and there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution.

  • My iphone 4 was acting up so i turned the fully charged phone off and it won't turn back on

my iphone 4 was acting up like th escreen wouldnt respond to my tough or the home button
so i turned the iphone off and the battery was around 95% so i know its not becuase its dead
and it won't turn back on
the screen did she the apple logo like it was about to power on but then it went black and hasent done anything since
i have plugged it in to my ocmputer and the wall charger and have had no luck
    any help??

Plug it in to power for at least 15 minutes.
The, try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • I am using iphone 4s its under warranty , phone got automatically turn off even if has 50% battery and not get on until i connect to charger . if i go to service center will they change my phone ? and will i have to pay anything if its battery issue ???/

Take it in and see what the technicians say is wrong and then how they want to handle the iPhone.  If the iPhone has a problem covered by the warranty then you should have no problems.

  • Updated my iPhone 5s to 7.0.6 and the phone won't turn back on.

Phone won't turn on after Apple update 7.0.6. Any ideas of the problem and solution?

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained here:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
