Iphone Battery Issues...worse?

Hi all..love my Iphone like many of us. But now it's getting to be a pain here. There's an increasing amount of instances where I pick my Iphone up from it's cradle before going to work, let it sit on the desk next to me for my 8 hour shift of dispatching, and by the end of my shift, my Iphone is dead. AT MOST, I quickly check email about twice with it. Now, any phone out on the market I've heard of has standby times of at least 100-200+ hours. I can't even get 8?

There can be many things that contribute to poor battery life on the iPhone. Here are several things to consider:
- Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi consumes power even if you are not using its features to connect to a network. You can turn it off to save power. Go to Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi.
- Bluetooth: Likewise, you can turn off Bluetooth to maximize battery life, as it also consumes power when not in use. Go to Settings > General > Bluetooth.
- Auto-Brightness: Turning on Auto-Brightness allows the brightness to adjust based on current lighting conditions. Go to Settings > Brightness.
- Equalizer: Adding EQs to playback uses more of your processor, since they aren’t encoded in the song. Turn EQ off if you don’t use it. If, however, you’ve added EQ to tracks in iTunes, you’ll need to set EQ to “flat” in order to have the effect of “off,” because iPhone keeps your iTunes settings intact. Go to Settings > iPod > EQ.
- Restrictive or Heat-Retentive Cases: Charging the iPhone while in certain carrying cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity.
- iPhone is Not Locked: You should lock their iPhone when not in use. To lock the iPhone, press the Sleep/Wake button.
- iPhone Software Out-of-Date: Always make sure the iPhone has the latest software from Apple, as engineers may find new ways to optimize battery performance. Using iTunes 7.3 or later, you can update their iPhone with the latest software. To update the iPhone software, connect the iPhone to the computer, then select iPhone in the Source pane. In the Summary tab, click “Check for Update” to see if there’s a new version of the iPhone software available. Click Update to install the latest version.
- iPhone is Outside Preferred Temperature Zone: The iPhone works best from 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C), and should be stored in environments of -4° to 113° F. (-20° to 45° C). Keeping the iPhone as near room temperature as possible (72° F or 22° C) is ideal.
- iPhone is Not Near a Mobile Phone Tower: For some folks who live in fringe network areas, the battery has to work harder to maintain a connection to cell towers. There really isn't a resolution to this (unless the you moves closer to a cell tower), but you can at least you know that this may be contributing to reduced battery life.

  • Iphone battery issue - should i go to apple or live with it?

    All
Having recently just said that I was not having troubles with my iPhone I've hit a problem actually that is a bit frustrating, and I'm wondering if its worth going to apple with this problem, and if so should I do anything before hand, Im based in the UK....
The battery has been fluctuating between brilliant and non-existant. I always run it way down, then charge it fully at every charge. However for example, yesterday I charged it fully. Used the ipod function for an hour in the day then when I got home I received a phone call. The phone call lasted 20 minutes, however I then got a 10% warning. I left to phone battery to die completely and it still hadn't this morning. About 10am it did die so I put it on charge. Its now 1.30 and when I went to look at how much the battery had charged, it was still red, so seemingly had received no charge. I then ejected it and put it back in and now its charging pretty quickly.
The problem is when it first did this about a month back I thought it just need resetting to reset the battery indicator. However its happening pretty much all the time, and no matter how many resets I do I get similar issues.
The worrying thing is every no and then it works really well, i.e. I charge it and without much use manage to get 3 days out of it.
Does this sound like an issue, its a bit annoying and if so should I pop in and see if I can get a replacement from apple?

The problem has not been specifically with either.
I charge with a MacBook Pro at home...
    A windows PC at work
Power brick when not near either.
In this instance, Im on my MacBook but the MacBook does not sleep (I have sleep turned off and the power turned on for the mac) the only thing that does come on is the screensaver so I imagine its probably not that.
As I say it was in for a few hours while I worked on it today, went to check the phone and noticed it had not charged. However its now been in about 10 minutes and seems about 75% charged, almost as though it did charge earlier, but it decided not to realise.
Then the second issue is that many times it will be around 80% charged at a guess. Used for an hour to listen to one album at work, then take one phone call lasting about 20 minutes and it was drained to within 10% and a warning was displayed. It seems to be the phone call that drained it. I must admit I don't use the phone that much for phone calls, I send a lot more text messages and use the ipod. I use about 100 minutes a month in total on phone calls.

  • Iphone battery issue.

These past few days my iPhone starting draining the battery very fast. It has heated up several times as well. I thought that maybe there was a stuck process but after restarting the phone 3 times the problem is still there. Any thoughts on what I can do? I have not sync the phone since Nov, not sure if that will solve any issues.

Update: I think I resolved the problem, you may not need to do the same as I did but wouldn't hurt. 1. I first deep cycled the battery twice which is basically draining the battery till the phone turns off and then letting the phone cool for about 15 min. 2. charge phone back up letting the phone charge 20 min past when it is fully charge. or you can download a  charging app that trickle charges the battery for you. In my opinion either way will work. After I cycled through two discharges and full charges I then re-sync my iPhone with Itunes. (I did this because sometimes when you delete apps there could still be a running process or a stuck process). I have tested my phone now with much better results. I don't know if this will work for everyone but its worth a try. Even if you do not buy the app, at least try this. I have read through a lot of material on li-ion batteries and it seems that although they are not supposed to build any kind of memory, it seems they do need to be conditioned at least once every month. Hope this helps.
Also a side note: I have been reading that IPhone's have been heating up really fast. This has happened to me also. This is usually caused by a hooked process or a background service that has either crashed and the OS keeps restarting it or it just fails to close down all the way. (I work next to a few Unix/Linux programmers). The best way to avoid over heating and causing further damage to your battery as heat does degrade your battery, is to turn the phone off and the let the phone cool for about 10 min. This can be very annoying and although I understand that nothing is perfect, but this is an issue that should be resolved by apple as a lot of people are possibly burning out batteries way before there life time due to software bugs that continue to exist in the new OS 5.0.1

  • IPhone battery issue - exchange calendar sync the primary suspect

I previously posted about very poor battery life and how a full re-install and reset seemed to fix the issue. The battery life was great for a week or so then I tried to go from my calendar on .me to my calendar on exchange. Then the issues re-appeared.
I am 99.9% sure that calendar sync via exchange is the issue. I am not sure if it's a funky server setting that my company has or what. It seems to work fine for others in the company however my e-mail account at work is relatively old compared to theirs. I am also on a Mac using Entourage. I made sure push was turned off and only fetch every hour. Still the same issue.
Again there is no battery drain when synching via iCal/.me. This kind of defeats the purpose of push calendar for me because I need to synch Entourage with iCal then iCal with .me. This means I need to be on my company network to sync. So the only time my calendar syncs is when I have my laptop on the company network.
The reason I'm writing is in hopes that someone from apple reads this and posts a fix. The CPU gets noticeably hot when exchange calendar sync is on so I know something is up. If you have any more info on this please let me know. I am also going to try the apple store tomorrow. Maybe it's a defective phone BUT since it works for everything except Exchange cal sync I am thinking it is some server/client polling issue.

I KNOW THIS IS lONG, BUT PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT.
OK - After about 5 hours of troubleshooting I have FIGURED out why my battery was lasting only 3.5 hours. I hope this helps.
    1. completely wiped the phone away and brought it back with push disabled. EVERYTHING FINE
    2. I enabled push waited 1 hour. EVERYTHING FINE
    3. I enabled mail push syncing. EVERYTHING FINE
    4. I enabled contacts push syncing. EVERYTHING FINE
    5. I enabled calendar and BAM battery starting spinning in overdrive. The calendar was the issue.
    6. I disabled push and to my surprise it did not get better, only after a reboot did the batter return to normal. OK - so I have narrowed it down to the calendar.
    7. I am using Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2003.
    8. I took a bold step and archived my entire calendar to a pst file so it left nothing in the calendar.
    9. Again to my surprise the battery started draining immediately when i enabled the calendar again. On a hunch I checked the properties of the calendar and it said there was a few kb left. I could not do anything to find these.
    10. I logged into Outlook web access (http://exchangeservername/exchange - if enabled) and did a search on the calendar and it found two orphan calendar entires. I deleted them.
    11. I enabled calendar syncing again and it went perfect. I then copied back all of my calendar entires from the archive pst to the calendar and luckily no problem.
The push service must have not known how to process these two entires and was just chocking on it. For the last two weeks I have been getting 12-14 hours from a charge with 3-5 hours of use. Farb better then the 3.5 hours with no usage. I hope this helps!!

  • Iphone Battery issues

is any one else having issues with the battery draining quickly ?? losing about 1% every 3-5 mins

    NSesta1687 wrote:
I had this very issue...Charged the phone and within 5 minutes it was down by 2 percent.   Talk on it and it was down a lot more...So I did some reading on the Apple forums and they suggest that you cycle the battery, which is let it drain to 0 or close to, and then charge it up to 100 percent to calibrate the battery and condition it.
I did that twice and have just texted for 15 minutes and hasn't budged from 100 percent, whereas before it would have been down to 95 percent...Give that a try.   They say it helps and from the looks of it it has.
I did that as well, I drained the battery right when I got the phone.

  • Downloaded OS 5.01, battery issue WORSE

I used to charge my phone every 3 days!  It's only 3-4 months OLD!  Really?  I now have to do it daily and barely make it throug a 12 hours shift before it dies...that's on text and email only...no web surf, no FB, no music!  Are youworking to fix this apple?  I miss my Blackberry everyone told me to ditch for this!
    Thank you!

I have just noticed my Iphone 4S battery is draining pretty fast since Jan 19. Before this, phone might go 3 days before needing recharge. Nothing really changed other than some app updates, and I just deleted all the apps that updated. Can't figure this out. Losing 10% of battery power every hour. Anyone else got this surprise power usage?

  • Low iPhone Battery Issue

Had posted this on the iPhone 3G board also.
With the battery drain I'm getting during the day, has anyone tried out any of the extra battery alternatives? Kensington Battery Pack, Richard Solo or the 2500mAH Xpower1?
It's frustrating running out of juice by the end of the day.

They don't sell every single product approved for use with the iPhone in the Apple stores. There are plenty of products out there for extending your battery life, but it really comes down to how much extra battery life you want, and how you want it to work. There are ones out there that are external cases with an additional battery in it to offer you double the life, there are ones that just plug into the bottom, there are half case ones. Mophie and Griffin are two of the manufacturers that come to mind that have good products and sell external iPhone batteries.

  • IPhone Battery Fix ---  Update 5.1.0 Works !!!  Steps to fix your Battery

This was my post on another area but I accidently marked it as a question, so someone told me I shouldn't have marked it as a question so it could have helped more people...so here it is,  I hope it helps you too.
*** THIS WILL FIX YOUR iPhone BATTERY ISSUE !!!!!! BUT YOU HAVE TO TAKE THESE STEPS EXACTLY AS I MENTION THEM AND IN THE ORDER STATED. SOME OF THESE MAY SEEM REDUNDANT BUT PLEASE BE PATIENT AND FOLLOW THEM AND YOU WILL HAVE YOUR iPhone BACK THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
I AM UNDER THE OPINION THAT THE REASON WHY WE HAVE NOT HEARD MORE OUT OF APPLE IS THAT THEY KNOW THE UPDATE WORKS BUT PEOPLE ARE NOT GOING THROUGHT THE PROPER STEPS FOR THE UPDATE TO TAKE CORRECTLY. I TOO WAS DISAPPOINTED AND STARTED HAVING MY DOUBTS ABOUT APPLE , ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS WAS MY FIRST iPhone.
***GIVE THIS A TRY BEFORE YOU GIVE UP ON THEM COMPLETELY IT WILL HELP***
    HERE WE GO…
ALLOW YOURSELF ABOUT 1 ½ TO 2 HOURS TIME TO INVEST IN THIS PROCESS BUT IT’S WORTH IT
    Hello Again,
Well…in my last post right after I did the 5.1.0 update to my iPhone 4s I remarked about how it worked and it was doing great. Not long after that (the next day at work) I noticed that the battery life was better or seemed to be but it wasn’t quite what I thought it should be. So as I am “OCD” and do not mind doing some trial and error on my phone (I mean what do we have to lose at this point right????) Here are my findings and there is a significant increase in the battery life. Just for good measure even after I discovered the difference in mine I took my wife’s 4s and performed the exact same steps to hers and she is back to the way the 4s is supposed to be, and the way it was in the beginning when we first purchased them!! (might I say she was a little reluctant to let me have my will with hers since doing the 5.0.1 update was all my doings anyway and took our phones from us so to speak, but being a good wife she trusted me one last time ;-)
THE PROCESS AS I DID IT:
OPEN ICloud AND IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY DONE SO DO A BACK UP, THIS STEP IS SOLELY TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU WILL HAVE YOUR CONTACTS AFTER YOU ARE FINISHED WITH THIS WHOLE PROCESS. WE WILL NOT BE RESTORING FROM iCloud SO THIS STEP IS NOT FOR A RESTORE PURPOSE.
AFTER YOU HAVE BACKED UP TO iCloud
OPEN YOUR SETTINGS ICON AND ONE CATEGORY AT A TIME STARTING WITH THE AIRPLANE MODE AND START GOING DOWN THE LIST, GO INTO EACH ONE AND MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IN THAT TAB AND SUB-TABS IN TURNED OFF. **EVERYTHING**
O.K. AFTER YOU HAVE TURNED EVERYTHING OFF GO INTO SETTINGS AGAIN AND COMPLETELY DELETE ALL OF YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNTS AND YOUR iCloud ACCOUNT. IT’S O.K. YOUR iCloud ACCOUNT IS NOT REALLY DELETED YOU ARE JUST DELETEING IT FROM YOUR PHONE. WE WILL BE PUTTING IT BACK ON LATER.
LEAVE ALL APPS ON YOUR PHONE THAT YOU THINK OR KNOW THAT YOU WANT AND DELETE ANY THAT YOU THINK YOU DO NOT WANT.
NEXT STEP IS CONNECTING TO iTunes BUT…NOW YOU HAVE TO BE QUICK AND AT THIS POINT AND STOP THE SYNC PROCESS BY CLICKING ON THE CIRCLE WITH AN “X” IN IT AT THE TOP MIDDLE OF SCREEN WHERE IS READS WHAT STEP IN THE SYNC PROCESS IT IS IN. DO NOT LET YOUR PHONE SYNC JUST YET OR YOU WILL UNDO EVERYTHING YOU JUST DID MANUALLY WITH YOUR PHONE.
IN THE LEFT COLUMN IN iTunes YOU WILL SEE YOUR iPhone’s NAME RIGHT CLICK ON IT (WINDOWS) OR TWO FINGER TAP (MAC) AND CHOOSE “BACKUP” AGAIN YOU MAY THINK A LOT OF THIS IS REDUNDANT AND YOU COMPUTER GURU’S OUT THERE MAY KNOW A BETTER WAY BUT THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME (REPEATADLY) AND SO FOR THE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT MAY NOT KNOW OR ARE FRUSTRATED THE UPDATE ISN’T WORKING THIS IS MEANT TO HELP WHOEVER IS ABOUT TO GIVE UP ON THERE PHONE.
AFTER YOU HAVE BACKED YOU PHONE UP IN iTunes (WHICH WE DID JUST FOR SAFE MEASURE) CLICK ON “SUMMARY” AND CHOOSE THE “DOWNLOAD & UPDATE”, THIS WILL TAKE ABOUT 40 MINS.
O.K. NOW AFTER YOUR PHONE HAS DOWNLOADED AND UPDATED, YOU MAY BE AT A POINT TO WHERE YOU ARE CHOOSING WHAT TO LET RUN ON YOUR PHONE LIKE “SIRI, LOCATION SERVICES, iCloud, ETC.” CHOOSE “NO” FOR ALL OF THEM SO NOT LET ANYTHING START TO RUN ON YOUR PHONE. NOW AT THE STEP OF SETTING UP iCloud OR iTunes CHOOSE SKIP OR IF IT WON’T LET YOU SKIP CHOOSE “SET UP WITH iTunes” AND LET YOUR PHONE CONNECT TO iTunes. (REMEMBER DO NOT LET YOUR PHONE SYNC AT THIS POINT EITHER…STOP IT !!
NOW AT THIS POINT YOU ARE GOING TO DO PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING BUT AS YOU WILL SEE IT WILL BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT.
AGAIN CHOOSE THE “SUMMARY” TAB AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN YOU WILL SEE “UPDATE” OR “RESTORE”, THIS TIME YOU ARE GOING TO CHOOSE “RESTORE”! IT’S O.K. PUSH IT, DON’T BE SCARED…EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT. LOL
NOW THIS PART IS CRITICAL…AFTER YOU CLICK “RESTORE” THE NEXT SCREEN YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING AT (AND I DON’T REMEMBER IS IT PROCEEDS WITH THE RESTORE OR IF YOU HAVE ONE MORE OPTIONS SCREEN) IS EITHER ONE THAT ASKS IF YOU WANT TO RESTORE TO LIKE NEW FACTORY SETTINGS OR HAS A TEXT BOX TO CHOOSE THE PHONE NAME…EITHER WAY…YOU WANT TO CHOOSE RESTORE PHONE TO FACTORY SETTING (LIKE NEW) THEN WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING AT A SCREEN THAT READS “iPhone Name” AND IS HIGHLIGHTED CHOOSE THE NAME YOU WANT YOU PHONE TO BE. THEN RIGHT BELOW THAT IS A FEW “CHECK BOXES” UN-SELECT THE ONE THAT READS SYNC AND RESTORE TO A BACK-UP. YOU DO NOT WANT TO RESTORE TO A BACK-UP !!!!
NOW ONCE THE RESTORE PROCESS HAS FINISHED AND YOUR PHONE HAS RE-BOOTED YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING AT A SCREEN THAT ASKS YOU TO CHOOSE YOUR COUNTRY, AGAIN GO THROUGH ALL THE STEPS AND AGAIN DO NOT CHOOSE YES TO ANY OF THE OPTIONS LIKE SIRI OR LOCATION SERVICES OR iCloud. CHOOSE NO TO ALL. IT MAY NOT LET YOU CONTINUE PAST THE iTunes ACCOUNT PART IF NOT GO AHEAD AND ENTER IN YOUR iTunes INFO I.E. EMAIL & PASSORD.
NOW YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING AT A PHONE THAT LOOKS AS PLAIN AS THE DAY YOU BOUGHT IT !!!! EXCITING HUH?...J/K THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT. NOW WHAT I DID AT THIS POINT IS A HARD RESTART WHERE YOU HOLD THE “HOME” BUTTON AND THE “LOCK SCREEN” BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME LET THE PHONE BLACK OUT AND KEEP HOLDING THEM UNTIL YOU SEE THE APPLE ICON, NOW LET GO OF THEM BOTH.
AFTER THAT DO A SOFT RESET THIS IS WHEN YOU HOLD JUST THE “LOCK SCREEN” BUTTON UNTIL THE “POWER OFF” SLIDER APPEARS AT THE TOP, WHEN IT DOES GO AHEAD AND SLIDE IT TO TURN YOU PHONE OFF.
AFTER A MOMENT TURN YOU PHONE BACK ON
AFTER PHONE BOOTS UP GO INTO "SETTINGS" AND CHOOSE RESET ALL SETTINGS AND LET IT CYCLE THROUGH AGAIN.
NOW AFTER PHONE POWERS BACK UP, PLUG IT INTO YOUR COMPUTER AND OPEN iTunes, AGAIN STOP THE SYNC PROCESS !!!!!
O.K. NOW STILL IN iTunes CHOOSE THE “APPS” TAB AND LOOK AND MAKE SURE YOU WANT THE APPS THAT ARE THERE AND WAITING TO BE SYNCD IF YOU DO NOT WANT THEM ALL UN-CHECK THE ONES THAT YOU DON’T WANT. THIS MAY BE A GOOD TIME TO BE “CHOOSY” AND NOT PUT A BUNCH OF JUNK ON YOUR PHONE THAT MAY NOT LET YOU KNOW IF THE UPDATE “TOOK” SO TO SPEAK.
AFTER CHOOSING APPS YOU WANT GO AHEAD AND CHECK THE SYNC BOX AND CLICK SYNC AT THE BOTTOM.
AFTER YOU HAVE YOUR APPS ON YOUR PHONE YOU CAN GO TO “SETTINGS” AND GO TO THE iCloud TAB AND ENTER IN YOUR iCloud ACCOUNT SIGN IN INFO. ONCE YOU DO THAT TURN OFF THE THINGS YOU DON’T WANT IT TO BACK UP. MATTER OF FACT I TURNED EVERYTHING OFF AND THE ONLY ONE THAT I LET “KEEP INFORMATION ON PHONE” WAS CONTACTS. (REMEMBER EARLIER WHEN WE WHERE HERE AND I MENTIONED WE WOULD COME BACK TO THIS LATER? WELL HERE WE ARE…ONLY FOR CONTACTS)
AFTER SYNCING CONTACTS (AND GIVE IT A FEW MINUTES TO DOWNLOAD THEM ALL) I CHOSE TO DELETED MY iCloud ACCOUNT AND KEEP CONTACTS INFO ON PHONE. (YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT BUT IT MAY RUN IN THE BACKGROUND ALL THE TIME AND MESS YOUR UPDATE UP) USE AT OWN RISK
NOW GO BACK INTO YOUR SETTINGS AND SET EVERYTHING UP LIKE YOU WANT IT LIKE YOUR SOUNDS ETC., I KEEP AUTOMATIC BRIGHTNESS OFF AND SET IT ABOUT 1/3 THE WAY UP, ON YOUR EMAILS I SET MINE UP NOT TO “PUSH” I WANTED TO BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD ANY NEW EMAILS WHEN I ACTUALLY OPEN MY EMAIL APP.
WELL THERE YOU GO…I HOPE IT HELPS YOU GET YOU PHONE BACK (AND YOUR LIFE) LOL
HOPEFULLY THIS WILL HELP YOU, AGAIN I FEEL THAT THIS IS WHY WE HAVEN’T HEARD MORE FROM APPLE, THEY KNOW IT WORKS, IT’S JUST DO-IT-YOURSELF USERS LIKE US THAT DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO DO-IT-OURSELVES THE CORRECT WAY.
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND PATIENCE !!
I WILL TRY TO ATTACH SOME PICTURES TO SHOW MY USAGE AND BATTERY LIFE FROM 1:00 AM FRIDAY TO ABOUT 8:00 AM MONDAY MORNING !!!

  • IOS 5.0.1 - Made my iPhone 4S battery performance worse!

I upgraded my iphone 4S to the 5.0.1 release today. However, I've noticed that my battery life has actually gotten worse since I upgrade. For example, I've been home for approximately 30 minutes and my battery has gone down in 8%. In the 30 minutes, I had a 30 second phone call and sent 3 text messages. I am connected to our wi-fi (which is a strong connection) and I have re-started my phone.
Please let me know if anyone else is having any issues!?!!?
Apple - Can you please fix the iphone 4s battery issues? I might as well go get a 4g android phone if the battery life remains this poor.

Hmmm. It actually worked for me. My phone was loosing 5%/hr on standby in iOS 5.0 with everything enabled, location services, etc. 5.0.1 decreased that to 1%/hr.
    Background Processes:
I also killed all the background procs. All the procs that are running in the backgraound are restarted in the background even after a reboot. Is this a feature? It seems to me a reboot of the iPhone should kill all background procs and they should only be restarted again opon manually selecting the application. When I first checked the background procs by double clicking the home button, there were 50 or so running. Everything that I had started since buying the iPhone was a background process. This is possibly the difference between users. If some users have procs running in the background that aren't actuallly sleeping, but are chewing up cpu cycles and battery... there ya go. It all depends on the app, who wrote it, and how well it behaves. I for one obtained better battery life by killing these procs.

  • IOS 5.1 and iPhone 4S - battery issues resolved?

Has the 5.1 update resolved your battery issues or created any new ones?
I just updated mine, and had to rush out the door so I couldn't test properly- I couldn't reset all settings to factory or recharge the phone to 100% but as is, so far no improvement at all. I wouldn't say I have the issue as bad as some others as my 4S lasts about the same as my windows phone (HD 7 - amazing phone if anyone wants a second phone or a change from ios, Android ***** so hard it hurts) and my old 3GS used to get after i updated it to 4.1 which was really bad, except I don't get so much "phantom drain" as that did. I do know that it could be much better as when I've reset my settings to factory before I've got a much better life span (what I'd expect from a smartphone) for a day or so before getting the bad battery again.
Any news, tips or findings? How has ios5.1 affected your 4S or previous model iPhone?

  • Semi-Scientific Test on iPhone 4S Battery Issue w/two iPhone 4Ss

    All,
My wife and I ordered identical 16 GB iPhone 4Ss. They were set up the same way. From the very start, I could tell that her battery was outperforming mine.
After a day of turning off and on various settings, from Location Services, to Siri, to iTunes settings, etc. I still noticed a huge gap in stand-by performance. I was losing 1% per 10 minutes, her phone was not.
Today, we had similiar usage with similar network characteristics (WiFi, decent 3G coverage) starting from a full charge (100%). After 8 hours, her phone still had 52% remaining. Mine died on the way home from work.
So tonight, I performed a test. I plugged both phones up and allowed them to fully charge to 100%. While plugged up, I ensured each setting on the phone were identical, including the number of Exchange accounts, brightness level, etc. At 9pm CDT, I unplugged them. My phone took a long time to get from 99% to 100%, her phone didn't. Mine also went to 99% upon unplug, her's didn't.
Neither phone was used at all, stayed completely in stand-by mode. At 10:15pm CDT, ...her phone remains at 100%. Mine is now at 92%. That's roughly 1% every 10 minutes on my phone, same thing I saw earlier in the day.
I think this, for me at least, confirms the diverse results folks are seeing. Some folks are seeing major battery issues, some are seeing better battery life over other iOS devices. It just so happens in our house, we have one of each. Why would two identical phones behave so differently? I've exahusted all possible options on my phone, including the recently posted attempt at deleting e-mail accounts and resetting network settings.
Does Apple recommend that I do a restore on my phone? I am trying to do so, but I am having issues re-downloading iOS 5. If I still see the same battery drain, I believe I will take this into the Genius bar.
I do believe it's time that Apple address this battery issue. I for one, based on experience, believe it's real, and could be a manufacturing defect. I don't know how else to explain two identical phones having vastly different stand-by results if my restore fails to fix the issue.

After spending 2 days troubleshooting I have found my battery drain culprit. When I turn my wifi on it coninuously disconnects and reconnects to my network. This was draining my battery about 1% every 4 minutes. I went through all the turn this stuff off, reset network settings, setup phone as new, helped some but still had the issue. This morning I set mine and my wife's up the same, she went to work and was playing music on the way in. Still had 100% after 40 minutes. I was at home with wifi on and dropped to 90%.
I charged my battery back up, turned wifi off and now after an hour still have 100%. This is with siri on, icloud on, notifications on, etc.
Can anyone else confirn this is an issue for them. I am trying to determine if it is hardware or software related.
    Thanks

  • IPhone 4S update to iOS 5.1 singal and battery issues

    Hi,
I was on 5.0.1 and had no issues at all loved the phone and my battery life. Eversince I updated to 5.1 my phone signal is awful, 2 bars when I had 5 before, constantly floating, calls drop for no reason. Yesterday nobody was able to reach me until I restarted my phone. Switched phone on in the morning yesterday and I get no service for around 30 minutes, after restarting 3 times it finally found network.
On o2 got my iphone from Apple unlocked.
As to battery life I can loose around 10-20 % in 2-3 hours not doing anything just in stand by, my battery issues were solved with 5.0.1 but started again with 5.1
What is apple doing? it is to say the least frustrating as ****. Fix one thing then break another, or break 2 while fixing them. It ****** me off.
I tried to restore my phone 7 times already set up as new and still no improvement.
One more interesting issue is when you go to your purchases in App store, and click dowload and app dissapears and then reappears on home screen few minutes later once it is done downloading.
Anyone else with this kind of a issue?

    Honestly guys,
It is either apple is blinded by their immense success which will not last if they keep going the direction they going. They should have more time to test their products thouroughly before they put their production line on overdrive. Company this size ignoring issues like that.
I think new Ipad will have problems as well, it seems this line up 4S and new ipad is kind of transition point to a newer devices and were made just to get something out on the market. Using same CPUs same formfactor.
My problem is I payed a fortune for it and it doesnt perform, I dont pay 600 pounds for a phone because I want to have issues with it. What they are doing is plainly ignoring these problems. Battery issue been going on since the release of the phone, going to be a year soon.
Microsoft and Apple changing places, look like microsoft going the right direction now with Widnows 8 and mobiles where as apple comes up with something like Lion which I hated and now Mountain Lion which plainly is running out of ideas and starting to implement some features from iOS, these are completely different devices. They do not need to be the same, they werent created for the same purprose.
I was on apples side all along but they are blinded by their pride in leading this revolution that they choose to ignore these issues. Relying on peoples stupidity to show off things like ipad 3 is 4x faster than tegra 3 where as in real results it came out 15% faster.
Apple get his fixed before it is too late. Scared to buy your products now!!! Good thing I didnt get iPad looking at overheating issues it is having, and also not charging from cable while in use but draining battery. No thanks
