Iphone Blacking out and needing to be reset

My phone has been playing up for months, it will black out as if i have turned it off but havent. i then have to reset the phone this can happen up to 5 times a day if not more but sometime less. i can also plug it into power and this will bring the screen back on. when this happens it often takes a picture of the screen. i have restored the phone many times and also took it back to the shop and they sent it back saying nothing was wrong with it. but the problem is still happening it is quite annoying and just recently the music has been playing up, it will just stop especially if i have it play threw an ipod dock speaker thing. i have been trying to restore it again to maybe fix the problem but when i click retore it goes to do it but then brings the update to upload but i have the latest update. should i just take it back again? or could it be something else? does anyone else have this problem? any help would be great =)

I have had a similar issue and found out that it is simple fix (was for me). On the iPhone there are proximity sensors to the left of ear mike (where you listen) it senses if your ear is close to the phone and blacks the screen out so you don't activate any other buttons when putting the phone to your ear..... the leather case or protective sleeve that I was using, was covering those sensors and thus stopping the screen from coming back on. The problem seemed intermittent, then permanent... once I removed the case, it became an instant fix. You cant see exactly where the sensors are unless you tilt the phone and look at it at an angle in natural light (the sunlight) you'll see two "dots" under the screen close to the ear piece.... try using the phone without case?

    Hi Cyprus11,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone is shutting down unexpectedly, I recommend going through these troubleshooting steps:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Best,

  • Can somebody please help? My new iPad (3) has been blacking out and restarting every min...

Ok so before i went on a vacation, i switched off my iPad that's left with 24% battery.
2 days later, i switched it on and the screen just freezes. So i pressed the home and lock button together and reset it.
After this, for every min i used, the iPad just black out and restarted on its own.
It probably restarted for more than 100 times already and i can't restore it or whatever since its just keep disconnecting from my iTunes.
I shut it down, reset it, close all the apps, none help.
Does anybody know a solution to this?
    Please help.
    Thanks a million

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • My Macbook "blacks out" and then turns back on?

There are times when my MacBook will "turn off" or "black out" and then after a few seconds, it would just turn on again with all the applications I was opening opened up already. Please help? This has happened 3 times now. :/

Looks like you have a 2010 Macbook. Are you running 10..6 Snow Leopard? Things to check. Go to system preferences/energy saver/ schedule and make sure nothing is checked. Also uncheck put hard drive to sleep. Do a pram reset/Command/Option?P/R and hold power button down for three chimes. You could also reset SMC. Hold down the Command?Option?Shift while holding down the power button for about 10 second. You should be able to access the apple hardware test by starting up and holding down the D or Option D on startup. Run the test. If not and you have the install disks you can run it from there by inserting it and doing the same thing. Use disk utilities in the utilities folder to repair disk permissions and verify your hard drive.  If it needs repair ,you'll need to use the install disk to do it under utilities at the top of the screen. If you have a newer operating system ,Then the only way to do this is through the restore partition by starting up and holding down the option or option r.You could look in your library system fold logs and see if you see anything under crach report that says thermal. Let me know.

my iphone blanked out and will not cut on i tried holding the power button and the home button any advice?

    Hey there mello12,
It sounds like you are not able to turn on your phone. You should use these steps in the following article to help resolve it, or setup service if needed:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • My ipod screen blacked out and wont let me see anything but it will play music

my ipod screen blacked out and wont let me see anything but it will play music. how can i fix it or cani get a new one?

    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
If not under warranty, Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price:

  • Screen blacking out and freezing when phone is charging

I have noticed sometimes my phone is blacking out and the only way to get the screen to come back up is to remove my battery. It happens about 2 or 3 times a day. Also, when charging my phone I will press an app or phone number and it goes to a completely different app or contact. Does anyone know how to fix this?

ive had an issue similar to this. my music worked for about a month then kept freezing on me. it wouldnt go back to the main screen or anything in the music player the screen just went black and my phone completely froze. however a hard reset worked for me. when you have an issue like this that can be resolved any other way this fixes it however i would use it as a last resort as a factory direct reset erases everything even backed up information on your sd card because everything is reset to the way when you first bought it out of the store. if you think this will work for you here is the quickest and easiet way i have found to do it:
    turn droid 2 off
open keyboard and press x while holding the power button
    device will power on
keep holding until a yello triangle appears
press the magnifying glass on your keyboard
use the volume button to select wipe data/ factory reset
    use camera key to confirm
    tap wipe data/factory reset
    then ok
    highlight reboot system now
    then ok

  • My screen blacks out and computer starts up again due to an error. Anyone any suggestions what could case this?

My screen blacks out and computer starts up again due to an error. Anyone any suggestions what could case this?

    Hello nattygrimm,
I was looking into the issue you are describing and found a great resource to try and fix the issue without having to re install the OS. It is an article called Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199.
    I recommend starting here:
The first and easiest test to try is to see if the issue affects a different user account on your Mac. Each user account has customized preferences and other items stored in its home directory. You'll first need to create an additional user if one does not already exist (follow steps a-h below). Then, log out of the current user and test the issue in the new user account.
If this resolves the issue, there may be an issue with a file in the home directory of the original user account.
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Accounts (or choose Users if using Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier).
Click "+" (or click New User if using Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier).
Give the new user a name and short name.
Mac OS X v10.3 or earlier only: Click the Password tab, and give the user a password.
Mac OS X v10.3 or earlier only: Click Security.
Select the checkbox for "Allow user to administer this computer". This makes the user account an administrator.
Click OK, or quit System Preferences.
Work your way down the article as needed.
    All the best,
    Sterling
