Iphone blank screen during call

I have developed a problem with my iphone over the last few weeks. When I make a phone call the screen blanks out as expected during the call however if I take the phone away from ear to end the call/use keypad etc the screen will not come back? Is anyone lse is experienceing this issue? is there a way to fix it?

Remove the case from your iphone and see if that resolves the issue.
Your case is likely blocking the sensor.

    Hi ausrius517,
Sorry to hear you are having a problem with your device.
Have you tried performing the following resets to see if it will solve your issue:
Soft Reset - this will not delete and data off your device.
Enter *#7780# into your phone's keypad and when prompted, enter 12345 (default code)
If there are not too much data on your device and you have made a backup, you can go for the hard reset option below.
Hard Reset - this will wipe all data off your device, so a backup is recommeded before doing this.
Enter *#7370# into your phone's keypad and when prompted, enter 12345 (default code)

  • Iphone 3g blank screen during calls

I bought a 3g last week to replace an original iphone that had stopped working. Everything seemed to work on the new phone except that during calls the screen would go blank and I could not get it back by holding it away from my ear, hitting the Home button, or anything else except the on/off button at the top, which ended the call. I was on the phone with apple tech support for several hours, trying all sorts of things that didn't solve the problem.
Then my grandson came home and looked at my phone. He surmised that the case, which I had transferred from my original iphone, was blocking the sensors. This turned out to be correct. If I push the phone slightly out of the case when on a call, the screen works just fine.
I decided to post this in case some one else runs into the same problem.

As soon as you said that the screen didn't come on, my first question was going to be are you using the original iPhone case? The proximity sensors on the 3G are positioned a little differently than the original phone.

  • Lumia 800 constant blank screen during calls

    hi guys,
    I have a nokia lumia 800,
when im on a call the screen stays blank so i cant access any of the in call options? i dont have a screen protector on the phone, i have run the diagnostics app and the the proximity sensor is responding fine!!! so it leads me to think its a software issue? is this a common problem or am i doing something wrong?
    hope you can help.
    daniel

The screen gets turned off during a phone call when the proximity sensor is covered. This is done to avoid accidental touch screen actions when you are in a call.
If the screen gets turned off immediately when dialing a number or receiving a call, check that your phone does not have any object which may cause detection. There are various non-Nokia original screen protectors sold in the market which cover the proximity sensor causing blank screen issues during calls.
You can take the following steps to check the issue. If the screen keeps turned off, the protector may not be of the right size and will block the sensor on the upper part of the front side. Then either remove the protector or cut off the plastic from the blocking area.
Make or receive a call with the phone.
Once the phone is in a call place your hand 1cm above the screen and display will turn off.
Remove your hand and display shall turn back on.
Repeat the test steps 1,2,3 for 3 times to verify the proximity sensor function.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Lumia 930 blank screen during call

My Lumia 930 screen goes blank during all calls. Iti is black whether the phone is next to my ear or not. In practice I cannot end a call or do anything else cause the screen keyboard is not available.
My son has a Lumia 920 which had very much the same problem but it was somehow fixed when the device was at Nokia service last year because of some camera problems. No idea still about the root cause of that case either.
Any idea how to fix my blank screen problem?

I have the exact same issue with my brand new Lumia 930 - the screen goes black (a bit randomly) when talking on the phone. I used a trick decribed in a post with the same issue on a 920, which is to firmly wipe just above the N in Nokia in the top right corner on the phone (where the sensors are) which helps. However, it is not really fixing the problem.
Is there anybody knowing another solution but to return the phone, which feels a bit cumbersome to say the least?
    Thanks,
    Erik

  • Returning to home screen during call

Hey all, my 8330 curve always just used to stay on the connected screen while in a call which allowed me to see my call time and be able to switch speaker phone on and off, etc. Now though, for some reason, it will switch back to the home screen during calls. I cannot tell if I am even in a call, let alone see how long i've been talking or turn on speaker phone.
Any ideas how I can keep it from returning to the home screen during calls?
    Thanks

I've had the same problem and asked AT&T to assist in one of their store fronts and was told that my phone was out of warranty.  BB support was of no help, stating that they had no idea what I was  talking about.

  • [Dell E5510] Blank screen during and after boot

    Hello,
I performed system update some time ago (2 or 3 weeks) and left my computer unused. Today I tried to power on it and I was very surprised, because I didn't see anything on screen during boot and after it. I rebooted computer in fallback mode (I also added "i915.modeset=0" to kernel init args), and I saw command line. Then I updated whole system and rebooted it again - no luck again blank screen during boot and after.
I rebooted it one more time, but with default kernel (I disabled KMS again via GRUB command line) and I saw systemd output during boot. I teems, that all services were started successfully, because all messages were prefixed with "OK". Then I cloud only use command line, because Gnome 3 was not running under seventh console.
Any idea what is going one here?

  • How to blank screen during music usage with Apple TV.

How do a select a blank screen as a screen saver when listening to music. I would like to save energy and minimize tv screen usage.  I don't want to show pictures or anything. My screen is currently on all day as I listen to music. Any adjustments with my Samsung tv during Apple TV stops Apple TV. I have an Apple TV 3.

Like I said, the Tv would need to be on unless connected via optical, that is not software related. Not a lot of energy would be saved by having a blank screen. The majority do use the screensaver to showcase their pictures and there wouldn't be a lot of call for having a blank screen.

  • Touch Screen during call

It would be nice to lock the screen during a call preventing unnecessary muting and disconnecting of calls. At least redesign the keypad to have the MUTE button on the right side so the chin doesn't touch the mute button during a call.

    roaminggnome wrote:
This is indeed a feature of the iphone. If your does not work, then make sure that you do not have a case on it that may be blocking the sensor.
If the case were blocking the sensor, it would still turn the screen off, but it would do it as soon as the call started, rather than waiting for the iPhone to be brought up to his/her cheek. I only know this because I was using an original iPhone case for a week or so after I got the iPhone 3G, and the sensors are in different positions on the two devices, so cases for the original may not work with the 3G if they cover the top portion of the screen near the ear speaker in any way.

  • IPhone 5s - Microphone During Calls

I received my new iPhone 5s today and have encountered an issue. When in the phone app, no one is able to hear me during calls. If I switch to speaker mode however, my voice will be picked up. I've also tested with Siri, and my voice is being picked up there without issue. There was also no issue with my voice being detected in Facetime. As far as I can tell this issue only exists during phone calls without the speaker on.
    - I've upgraded to the latest version of iOS hoping that might resolve it, but no luck.
    - Also, I've tried turning off the noise cancelation feature, but again with no luck.
Has anyone encountered this issue before? What steps would you recommend for resolving this?
    Thanks!

  • Black screen during call

Usually the iphone's screen goes black when you have it up to your ear, then comes back on when you pull it away. Unfortunately, mine sometimes stays black, and am unable to hang up the call or do anything. Tried taking it back to AT&T but they won't take it back. Any advice?

    Hi sbga420,
Doi you have a protective case on the iPhone that could be covering up the proximity sensor? If there is a case on the iPhone, try testing the iPhone without the case.

  • Auto off of screen during call.

My Lumia 520 screen doesn't get off automatically when handset is put on ear during call.
many times the speaker gets switched on or call get ended by accidental touch of cheek during calls.

Try a soft reset by holding both the power and volume down buttons pressed until the phone vibrates and restarts. If that doesn't help, take it to a Nokia care point to have the proximity sensor checked and repaired. You can find the one nearest to you by clicking on the Support link at the bottom of the page.

  • Why is my iPhone 5s vibrating during calls

Whenever I am on my iPhone 5s, on a call or listening to VM, it starts vibrating off and on.  I've seen this question before, so I know it's an issue for the 5s, but the last thread I saw had the worst response ever by JudySings.... Something about check a different apple support community.

    Jonathan,
Does this only happen while you a plugged in? If so look at your battery icon, you will probably notice that it is grey. If you wiggle the chord you will see that it goes to green and the lightening bolt appears.  When the lightening bolt appears the tone it vibration happens.  The reason it happens randomly when you don't wiggle it is because it's getting that connection on its own.
My iPhone 5s just started doing this today.  While the phone is unplugged from the USB cable. Attempt a reset on your phone by holding down the power button on the top and the home button on the front together for about 3-5 seconds, the phone should automatically power cycle.  In addition attempt to charge with a different chord.  If you have a case on your phone that has the flap to cover the charging port when it is unplugged, rove the case to make sure that flap isn't pressing on the charger.  Those are the steps that I am following right now. My battery icon is still grey do I continue to search for the next steps.  If I find more I will post it here.  I hope some of that helps.

  • T400 blank screen during games

I have a t400 with windows xp and 3gb of ram (an original 1gb stick and a 2gb that I added)
I have had my t400 with this configuration for two years, and a few days ago I started having a problem similar to the blank screen on resume I've read about here, except it happens while playing memory-intensive games (civ4, half life 2, cod2 have all exhibited this behavior)
The screen goes completely blank (no backlight) after only 5-10 minutes in the game, and the only way to get out of it is a hard restart. I have tried all kinds of Fn combinations and tried using an external display. I've updated my bios, display drivers, and power manager drivers. I disabled switchable graphics in the bios, and the problem still occurs with discrete graphics. I haven't tried using internal graphics, but that's not an ideal solution.
A couple of the times this has happened, I have gotten a 'windows experienced a serious error' window on starting back up.The crash dump always looks like this.
On Thu 6/10/2010 7:17:42 AM your computer crashed
This was likely caused by the following module: ati2cqag.dll

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

yes, this would explain the error.
Hum, you probably need to send the laptop in for service.

  • [MOOT] UEFI USB Install (from 201306 image) - blank screen during boot

I am trying to install Arch Linux on a Lenovo ThinkPad T431s.
I created a bootable UEFI USB disk image following the instructions on the wiki.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UE … B_from_ISO
Attempting to boot from this image I get to a screen that looks like:
Arch Linux archiso x86_64 UEFI USB
    UEFI Shell x86_64 v1
    UEFI Shell x86_64 v2
After selecting the first option, I get a blank screen.
This appears to be the same (or very similar) to the following issues:
    [1] https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151599
    [2] https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=158530
    As suggested by
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_Guide#Preparation
I tried appending a number of things to the initrd line
    nomodeset
    video=SVIDEO-1:d
    i915.modeset=0
with no success (the blank screen was exactly the same).
Some posts in thread [2] indicated that booting in legacy bios mode worked.  I created a new disk image (again following the wiki instructions: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … ion_Media) and was able to confirm that I could successfully boot from this other image after switching into legacy mode.
In thread [1], there was the suggestion to go into a UEFI shell and try a command like
    Shell > fs0:
    FS0:\ > cd \arch\boot\x86_64
    FS0:\arch\boot\x86_64\ > vmlinuz archisobasedir=arch archisolabel=ARCH_201306 initrd=\arch\boot\x86_64\archiso.img
which I did.  After pressing enter nothing happened (the screen did not go blank, all the text remained, no messages appeared).
Eventually in that same thread, a workaround was suggested in this post.  I have not tried this because I was unable to understand what exactly was being done, both because of the terse nature of the post and the fact that the referenced article is not in a language which I read (and google translate did not make it clear enough).  I was unable to evaluate whether that was a sensible thing to do.
    Now, finally, the questions
Firstly, does anyone have any suggestions about how to solve or troubleshoot my blank screen issue?
If not, does anyone have an opinion about which of the workarounds (switching into legacy mode or the one that I don't quite understand yet) would be better?  I am not planning to dual boot the system, so I do not need to use UEFI to be win8 friendly, etc.

Neri, did you get any further with this? I just got my own Thinkpad Yoga and am facing the same problems. Everything works fine in legacy Boot but the screen stays black on UEFI boot regardless of the known workarounds.
might it help to first install using legacy boot and later on convert to UEFI?
Not really with Arch directly anyways. What you can do is:
    1. Use Fedora 20 USB to boot the sucker up
    2. Use Archlinux-bootstrap install (download expand etc)
    3. Use refind as the bootmanager seems to solve the dual boot issues
ATM i'm fighting a mkinitcpio segfault. But that is after the installation was basically successful.  It would be nice if we can find a way to fix the install medium ...
    EDIT:
All sorted out. Unfortunately you'll have to bypass the Archlinux Install medium and resort to the fedora 20 installer. I used the XFCE4
    version for a smaller download.
Here are the basic steps for a Dual-Boot setup:
In windows (Disk Management) truncate your C: Drive.  I ended up making basically what will became /dev/sda4 smaller and didn't not
touch any partition or free space before that. Here's the final Layout:
    /dev/sda:
        empty space
    1. recovery partition
    2. ESP
    3. reserved
    4. windows
    5. Linux Root
    6. Linux home
    7. Swap
The installation happened from within Fedora Live using an Archlinux Boot strap image according to the Wiki for installing from an
existing Linux and the Wiki Installation Guide.  I mounted /dev/sda2 (aka. the existing ESP partition) as /boot and installed refind
according to the wiki. Please note, when you install Arch through the archlinux bootstrap method make sure you  pacman -S archlinux-keyring
in the bootstrap chroot first before you run the pacstrap command - it will accelerate the process tremendously!
