IPhone Bluetooth tether to Bluetooth router for a wifi hot spot

Ok I want to use my iPhone as a WiFi hot spot for Internet access for my laptop and my iPad. My laptop and iPad have WiFi capability. So can I Just get a bluetooth WiFi router, pair it to my iPhone for a WiFi hot spot for laptop and iPad?

Even if there were such a thing as a Bluetooth ➔ WiFi router (I've never seen or heard of one), and you have tethering enabled on your phone and cellular plan, I don't believe it would work, depending on the Bluetooth profile supported by the router. The only type of Bluetooth file transfer profile supported by iPhones is a direct tethering connection to the end device. Unless the router appears that way to the phone, it won't work.
If you have an iPhone 4, WiFi hotspot will be supported directly from the phone with the 4.3 update.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

Sir I have iPhone 5 and I updated ISo 6 and personal hot spot is missing

When you enable the 'Personal Hotspot' then any device that connects to that device is being tethered to your iPhone 5.
Some carriers see this as a special service that they charge extra money for, so they disable on your phone unless your are paying them extra.

If you are intending using your hot spot to download movies for the Apple TV, you'll very quickly eat through your data allowance.

How do I set up a wifi hot spot in my house just for me?

You can't use the wifi card to do both connect to a wifi network and then use the wifi card as a wifi hotspot. You'll need to connect the mac by ethernet and then you can set the wifi card as a hotspot.

  • WIFI hot spot for customers

I want to allow customers who enter my business internet access (like a WIFI hot spot), but I don't want them to have access to my entire network of many PC's and Macs. I only want them to be able to access the internet without passwords, but not allow them to connect to computers on the network.
Is there a way to setup Airport Extreme so this can be done?
    Vincent Pickeral

One way to set that up is to purchase a Firewall with an optional interface. One product I have used for this kind of application is the Watchguard Firebox Edge X5.
Basically... You would plug the WAN interface in to your DSL or Cable modem, and your work or protected network (Macs, PC's, Credit Card verification etc) in to the Ethernet ports. Your Wireless Access point would plug in to the optional interface, which is on a separate network.
This can be a bit complicated to set up, and this particular FW is a bit more expensive that the standard home unit, (about $350). It's about the only way I know of to separate your Airport network, and protect your business data, using a typical DSL or Cable circuit.
There may be other brands out there... this is just the one I am familiar with.

  • We traded our home internet service for a Sprint Hot Spot.  The hot spot does not have an ethernet port to connect through.  Can we connect our time capsule to the wireless hot spot?

Hello, we switched our home internet service from an ethernet modem to a wireless hot spot.
Do you know if there is a way to connect our time capsule to the hot spot?
Everything I read only suggests connecting through an ethernet cable.  I'm hoping there is a way to do this.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!!!

No you can't join a wireless hotspot with a Time Capsule directly via it's 'join' option (tried and failed - well to be exact it kinda works but the Time Capsule's ethernet ports no longer work).
What you can do is buy an airport express and use it's 'join' option to connect to the iPhone's hotspot. Then you connect the airport express via ethernet to the time capsule (in bridge-mode).
You can then connect your computers to the time capsule via ethernet or use it's wireless function to set up wireless network (with a different name to that of the hotspot) that your wifi stuff can connect to.

I am not able to connect iphone 4s to windows 7 32 bit OS via bluetooth

My iPhone can't be used as microwave to heat my food!  Gosh durn it Apple!!!
I find that comment/attitude absurd. People expect un-stated features all the time. It's called advancement/innovation. It's got nothing to do with what the manufacturer advertised it could/couldn't do at some point in time.
Of course, I am not talking cooking, I am talking Bluetooth transfers!
If a feature is useful/desirable and reasonable we should expect a manufacturer to implement it. If not, that manufacturer is falling behind, and we go and buy somewhere else.
I'm with Bri Guy. This is a feature my Nokia 'feature phone' had years ago. Lame that we are going backwards.
In the early days, Apple stuff 'just worked'. Those days are gone, and Apple functionality looks a lot like their competitors these days (often behind even), just with a bit more gloss and shine. Whoopee.
My next phone sure ain't an iPhone.

IMHO, you can't go wrong with an [_*airport extreme*_|http://www.apple.com/airportextreme>.
if you want to save some $$$, consider getting a [refurbished_|http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macaccessories?mco=MTkyMTQ5NDU] unit.

  • Why Do I Have to PAY MORE MONEY?!?!?!?!? For The "Mobile  Hot Spot"??

If I am ALREADY paying for an UNLIMITED access plan, why are they trying to extort more money from me?? Does it REALLY matter what device the data is being transferred to (Incredible/laptop)?? I guess UNLIMITED really DOES have it's LIMITS....  Is there a crrier that provides for this service free of charge or INCLUDES IT in their UNLIMITED plan?!?!?!?

T-Mobile doesn't allow tethering it's within the ToS you sign when you go with them.  Carriers in Europe also charges for tethering.  You want to add more devices to use up bandwidth you gotta pay for it.  Internet bandwidth isn't free, but the content is.
Virgin Mobile: This is what you have to add to your mobile web plan if you want to tether.  This does not include mobile web for your mobile device. You can tether with your devices just like T-Mobile, but if you get caught THEY have the right to terminate your contract or service and charge you the ETF.
    Broadband2Go
    Broadband2Go Plans
You may purchase a Broadband2Go data plan necessary to access the Internet from your laptop personal computer in the following data allocations ("Broadband2Go Plans"):
    $10.00 for 100 megabytes ("MB")
$40.00 per month for unlimited mobile Internet (but not unlimited downloaded content)
When you purchase the $10.00 Broadband2Go Plan, your data usage will be deducted from the available data allocation. Unused data expire 10 days from the date the Broadband2Go Plan was activated on your account. If you use your allocation of data before the end of the data expiration date, you must purchase an additional Broadband2Go Plan to use the Broadband2Go service.
With the $40.00 Broadband2Go Plan, your monthly charge is due on the monthly payment date of your $40.00 Broadband2Go Plan. Your monthly payment date is based on the day of the month that you activate your $40.00 BroadBand2Go Plan, switch from another Broadband2Go Plan to the $40.00 Broadband2Go Plan, or restart the $40.00 Broadband2Go Plan. If you do not pay your monthly charge on your payment date, you will no longer have access to the Broadband2Go service, regardless of the balance in your account. When you next pay your monthly charge, you will receive the data allocation associated with that monthly plan. If you fail to pay your monthly charge when due, your payment date will be reset based on the day you successfully pay your monthly charge.
Most carriers will give you unlimited, but if you hit a certain point they'll throttle you down, but you still can use the internet.  To even use 5G's a month is very hard to do unless you stream a lot of content.

  • I upgraded my iPhone software yesterday and now I am getting personal hot spot. Can any body tell me why this and how to solve this problem.

I up graded my iPhone software yesterday and now I am not getting personal hotspot. Can any one help?

Did you check for a carrier settings update?
Copied from iOS: System requirements for Personal Hotspot
To confirm that your iPhone or iPad Wi-Fi + 4G can share its cellular data connection using Personal Hotspot, tapSettings > General > Network > Personal Hotspot.
If you don't see this option and your carrier supports this feature, check for a carrier settings update. If you still cannot enable this feature, contact your carrier for additional information.

  • IPod touch 3.0 password saving for wifi hot spot logins

Like most of you, i'm loving the new password saving feature in the new 3.0 software update. However, when I login to a wireless hotspot using the new login feature, there is no option to save my password like when I log in to other sites. Have any of you exprienced the same thing? I have enabled autofill and like I said it saves my passwords for other sites.

Is this an open WiFi site, i.e. non-secured? The touch will remember secure networks and network log ins anyway - it always has except when 1) the network is unnamed; and 2) the network is using WPA/WPA2 enterprise encryption.
