IPhone can be shut down with screen locked and passcode set

Having Passcode Lock on, I can power off the iPhone when the screen is locked. Is this intended or is it a bug? It can be problematic to use Find My iPhone if someone steals somebody's iPhone and shuts it down.

The iPhone of my wife is stolen last week and didn't had a always online data plan. So there was in some way nothing we could do. For that reason I shut down the simcard and via icloud.com sent a message to the iphone and placed it in restore mode.
In this case the poweroff passcode requirement didnt had any use but it would be very much of use when someone has an always online connection. That way if it gets stolen its traceable as long as the battery lasts. Letting the iPhone reset itself after 10 false attempts to login is stupid. That way its not even traceable anymore.
As far as I know with iOS7 there will be a apple id login required before you can restore the iphone! I don't know what will hebben if the home and powerbutton will be used at the same time... But it makes it a little harder to steal a phone and sell it.
Also, if the iphone can be connected to an apple ID you could do a lot more, for instance:
Mark the iphone as stolen. When the phone is in some way restored, the imei number is marked in a database and the iphone will be traced through wifi or 3g without the new owner knowing. If you want you can send messages or shut it down. You can only mark a phone as stolen if it is connected to your apple ID. So if you sell the phone, you want to restore it, restoring it requires a login with your apple id, after it has been restored the iphone is "free of apple id" and cant be marked as stolen. When somebody, the new owner, connects it with his apple id, its his iphone.

My iPhone with 40 or so percent randomly shuts down with iOS 7 and 6. Often with the camera app stating the phone is out of battery.  Moments later I turn it back on and the same battery life still appears.  It sometimes happens over and over until I leave it alone for a while (still not charging), and then it works.

I think you might get a new phone instead of repairing it as it takes time and you said the repairing center is far from your living place

  • My iPhone 4 keeps shutting down with high battery percentage?

I have an iPhone 4 that I just received in September/October due to issues I was having with the screen.  It has recently begun to freeze, shut down and come back on, and ultimately shutting down around 36% battery life.  I can plug it into the charger and it will immediately turn back on, usually at the same percentage as when it shut off.  Only last night it shut down at 36/37% and when I plugged it in it came on at 25%.  I've done resets but nothing seems to be helping.  Any other suggestions?

This is often due to fautly battery. Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple Store for free quick battery diagnostic testing.

  • My iPhone shuts down with certain apps and says dead Batt. with plenty left. Now it wont turn on after starting up and turning off many times

I got my Dads old iPhone 3GS for Christmas and reset it to its factory settings. It had this problem with my Dad to, thats why he got a new phone. It was claiming that the battery was dead when I opened certain apps eventhough it had plenty of battery, It made me charge it and then said it was plenty charged. Why? That happened multiple times. That's what happened to my Dad as well. This however, is me only. O.K. so, the other day, it did it's battery dead shutdown thing, so I plugged it in, but it kept starting up, then shutting down again, starting up, and shutting down again. Now I've left it on the charger for about a days, it's not on the charger now, and it won't turn on. Help!!!!!!

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • My iphone 5 is shutting down with 30% battery remaining

My iphone keep shutting down with approx. 30% battery remaining, sometime 18%, I have to plug it to turn it on again, it is very frustrating. I did reset the phone and it still doing it.   PLEASE HELP!

Sounds like a definite hardware problem. You should still be in warranty, so head over to an Apple Genius Bar and they will either repair or replace it. A replacement will be much more likely, and it's free (if in warranty).
    Good luck!

  • Satellite L40 won't shut down with power connected, and won't go in standby

Hi everybody. I hope someone can help me. Basically, there are two problems: one with shutting the laptop (Satellite L40-17U (Vista 32-bit Home Premium SP1) ) down when the power is connected, and one with closing the lid and putting it to sleep.
    1. Since a few weeks, it suddenly doesn't want to shut down, whenever the power is connected. When it is on battery, it will shut down. When the power is connected and I try shutting it down, it seems like it shuts down (all activity ceases and the LEDs go off) for about 1 or 2 seconds, and then it goes back on.
    2. When I close the lid (all settings in Vista are set to put the laptop in 'sleep' status when the lid is closed) the laptop goes into a state from which it can only be recovered by shutting it down by pressing the on/off button for about 10 seconds to completely shut it down. When closing the lid, only the battery LED keeps blinking orange (the way it should be), but apparently the laptop keeps consuming power, because when I reboot it later (first having to shut it down as described above) the battery tends to be quite a emptier than it was before rebooting it (like going from 100% to 65% in 30 minutes, while being in 'sleep' state). Also, when I open the lid, the other LEDs do go on again (green), but nothing happens.
After rebooting by first pressing the on/off button for 10 seconds to shut it down, I frequently get a message that Windows could not be started, and have to run System Repair.
I've just done a completely clean installation with the product recovery CD (didn't install SP1 yet), upgraded the BIOS to v1.90, but the problem remains.
I'm afraid my only option will be to bring it away for a warranty repair, but knowing that these repairs can take weeks, I'd prefer to try a solution anyone here could recommend me first. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks,

    Hi guys
Never had such issue on my notebook but regarding to another users here in the forum the BIOS might help to solve such strange notebook behavior
To be honest the shut down issue is not known to me I noticed an standby issue on my notebook but the BIOS update helped.
Therefore I recommend updating the BIOS firstly.
If the issue will still appear, then the ASP should take a look into the notebook.
    Good luck

  • Mac mini shutting down with screen(s) running commands/code?

My mac mini started shutting down while in use. It then runs commands or code very quickly over screen after screen. Have to restart. Keeps happening. Can you help?

    Hi and welcome.
Could you give us a bit more history about your Mini and what lead or leads up to this?
Do you have a G4 Mini (2 usb ports), CoreDuo/Core2Duo Intel Mini (4 usb ports), or a 2009 Intel Mini (5 usb ports)?
What version of OSX are you running? (Apple Menu > About this Mac)

Connect the iPod to the computer you normally use it with (the first one that the iPod synced with) and open iTunes. Then disconnect the iPod from the computer and it should no longer be locked.
If that doesn't work, you'll need to restore it.
See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.

  • HT4061 can we shut down each screen after we use it

Before updating to iOS 7 I could double click the home button, press on the opened app and delete it , so that it is not running  at the background. Is there any such facility in iOS 7?

When you double click on the home button all open apps now show as large thumbnails.  If you want to close an app swipe it up.  Swiping sideways shows all the apps currently open.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPhone 6 audio stops playing with auto lock and when earphones pulled out

When playing an mp3 through Dropbox on my iPhone 6, by audio has been freezing when the phone goes into auto lock. It never used to do this, and I don't think I've changed any settings.
I tried playing music through iTunes to see if it was a dropbox issue. The same thing happens. It also happens if I"m listening through the earphones and I pull the earphones out of the phone. The audio just turns off. iTunes is still open, but it stops playing.
Does anyone know if this is an iPhone 6 thing?

    Thanks Meg,
    glad to know it's normal.
So my problem remains with the audio freezing when the phone goes into auto lock then. This didn't used to happen.
    cheers,

No, that shouldn't happen. Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the apple appears?

  • Macbook - Shuts down with low battery and doesn't go to sleep

I have a Black MacBook 2.16 core duo and have been dealing with this same issue for about 6 months.
At first, the MB (macbook) worked perfectly. battery would get to 5% or so, warn me then go to sleep, then write a safe sleep image, then shutdown. I would turn it back on and it would restore the image to where I left off.
After about 2 months this stopped working properly. When running solely off the battery, the MB would get to about 20% and just shutdown. ppbbbbllltt!
I've spent endless hours on the phone with people in the Phillipines and sitting at Genius Bars. I've gone through all the things mentioned in Apple's support thread: calibrated the battery, reset PRAM, reset SMC / PMU, updated the battery uupdater to 1.1 then 1.2 (I think that 1.3 is only for MB Pros)
I'm on my THIRD BATTERY..it's happening again...at least with the first 2 it worked for a couple of months. With this battery, it bombed out on the first cycle that I went through.
Is this the logic board or the motherboard or something else??
Any other ideas on what to try?
Is this a hardware issue (IE motherboard, logic board...) ?
Is this a software issue (IE - OSX) ?
Is it a firware issue (IE - battery firware) ?
    I'm at a loss....

If it's your third battery you need to have Apple look at the computer itself. As you know now switching batteries is not fixing it. I would guess it is in the power control circuit which is on the motherboard. You need to call and get it checked out.
