IPhone can't make it past apple logo, continually reboots

My iphone 3gs froze tonight while watching a youtube video. After nothing else was responsive I held down the home and sleep buttons to do a reset.
Now it won't boot up at all. The apple logo displays for a few seconds but then the screen flashes off and a few seconds later the apple logo appears again. This process repeats indefinitely.
Next I held down the home and sleep buttons longer to try and restore it. The itunes and USB plug logo came up. But when I plug it into my computer and hit restore in itunes while preparing to restore it starts the turning off problem again (the computer makes the USB unplugged sound a few times) and I eventually get the unknown error #9.
Any idea how to fix this?

A lot of forums I've read said to put it into dfu mode or "connect to iTunes" to restore b
You want it in recovery mode, not DFU, which is used for hacking or on already hacked phones

  • Iphone won't turn on past apple logo, can't restore. HELP

All of a sudden tonight, my iphone 4s restarted, but it only got to the apple logo screen, then restarted again.  It was doing that repeatedly every 10 seconds or so for the last few hours.  The only thing I could do was turn it off completely but only if it wasn't plugged in.  If I plugged it into a power source it kept restarting and I couldn't even turn it off.  But turning it off didn't do anything anyway because when I turned it on again it just continued doing the same restart cycle.  I tried a reset, which had no effect at all.  I tried to do a complete restore using itunes, several times.  It starts to restore but then I get a message "The iphone (iphone) could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (9)."  I made sure itunes and OS X were up to date, restarted my computer, and tried again a few times with the same failed result.  And now the phone doesn't continually loop through the apple logo.  Instead, after the apple logo, it shows the connect-to-itunes screen (in order to do a restore, but like I said, that doesn't work) and stays on that screen for a minute until it turns off.  (But again, if I leave it plugged in, it doesn't stay off.  It keeps turning back on and it stays at the connect-to-itunes screen until I turn it off.)
So I don't know what options I have left.  As far as I can tell, I have a brick that lights up with an apple logo or itunes logo.
One thing that did happen earlier today that could be related: I tried to update my iphone (I believe I have 7.0.4 and it was updating to 7.0.6?) but something weird happened during the update (can't remember exactly) and I ended up having to restart my phone without it finishing the update.  It wouldn't let me update after that, which I didn't really care about, so I just left it with the ios version I had.  Then later in the evening this happened.
One other small thing to note (probably insignificant)-- When the phone kept going through the apple logo loop, right before the screen went black and it restarted, the apple logo would grow dim and there was sometimes a horizontal line across the screen, then it went to black.
If anybody has any ideas, please help!  It would be much appreciated.  I don't want to have to buy a new phone so soon.  Apple products are supposed to have a long life span!  And I've never jailbroken it or done anything out of the ordinary.

  • Iphone 3G won't boot past apple logo - not typical case that I've searched and read about

I am attempting to fix an Iphone 3G for a friend.  Before the phone stopped working, they said the battery life was getting worse progressively until the point that they had to turn down the brightness and have it plugged in often.  The phone was jailbroken and unlocked for use on Tmobile.  I don't know what firmware it's on nor how it was jailbroken, just that they said it worked fine for 3 years.  When this problem first occurred, my friend was able to get the phone into recover mode, but it would shut down after several seconds even when plugged into a computer or power source.
Currently, the phone will not boot past the apple logo.  It powers up, goes to the apple logo, and powers down 20 or so seconds later.  The spinning gear never appears.  I can not get the phone to boot into recovery nor DFU mode.   The computer doesn't recognize it or even acknowledge when it is plugged in, so irecover that some people use to solve their recovery loop mode i won't work either.  I have the luxury of having a functional iphone 3g that I used to swap parts to narrow down the culprit.
    Steps taken:
    replaced battery
swapped usb connector on bottom of phone
swapped lcd assembly in case it was the home button
took the motherboard out and placed it in the working phone, and it still doesn't boot past the apple logo
I'm out of ideas at this point.  Thanks for anything you guys (and gals) can think of.

I See a lot of those on my bench. The cause is the charge IC is burned out usually by a non Apple cable. The only way to get it to fully boot is to put a fresh charged battery in. Once a new fully charged battery is in it will continue to work fine including charging. But if you ever power off the device or it turns off due to dead battery it will not boot up on its own And you will need to swap batteries again.

  • IPhone will not turn on past Apple logo...help

I recently restored my iPhone 3G and it died during the restore to factory settings. I let it charge overnight and then tried to power it on and it comes to the Apple logo on the screen for 10 seconds and then just shuts off again. I tried to connected to computer and still the same outcome. The computer does not even know its there. iTunes and everything else works fine because i hooked my 3GS up and it knows its there. What do i do next, take it to apple? Please help

Try to force it into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the USB cord. Press and hold the home button while plugging in the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • My iphone will not stop showing the apple logo and rebooting

How can i get my iphone 5 to stop rebooting and actually show my screen. All it does is show the apple logo and then its goes away and the screen stays on but shows nothing. I can triple click to invert colors but that only makes the black screen white. My lock button does not work either so i cannot hard reset

It appears you have a hardware failure. Certainly the lock button has failed. Without that button you cannot reset which is the first thing to try in cases like yours. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • 4s apple logo continuous reboot

I have an iphone 4s i woke up a few weeks ago to the iphone not starting up, it wouldn't go past the apple logo, i was able to put it in recovery mode(connect to itunes), so i put it in recovery mode and did a restore which made me download the new firmware since i was running on the one that came with my 4S,
When it was nearly done i received a error message about iphone pairing record was missing, so i started all over and did the restore again. However now my phone keeps going to apple logo, rebooting, loading bar, apple logo, rebooting, im unable to shut it off therefore im unable to get into the DFU mode.
How can I get out of this loop? the only thing i can get into is the USB recovery mode which i can connect to itunes, otherwise i cannot turn the phone off, or even access the slider bar, or use power buttons to turn it off, it's on and juss loading over and over. doing the restore all from scratch doesn't help.

cant quite remember which JB,, it was a fairly newly released one when I got the phone back Feb 6th. I think it may have been absinthe. It was jailbroken using the firmware that came with the phone.
Today I forced the phone into DFU mode by replacing files using a method I found online, and tried to restore through that but no success, still self rebooting on apple logo even after DFU mode restore and recovery restore.
Everything installed and restored fine in itunes, it did the final reboot step, but soon as it got to this step and shut off to turn back on to (load properly) like it's suppose to do after a restore, it started doing the the phone Disconnected, reconnected and keep rebooting with the apple logo flashing on and off
Should the phone be clean with original software now so i can bring into my carrier for warranty?

  • IPhone won't reboot past Apple logo.

iPhone 4 won't reboot past Apple logo. It will not show up in iTunes to perform a restore. I can't even get it to turn off. Help?

Reset phone - press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo reappears.
If that doesn't work, try recovery:
    1. Update to latest iTunes (10.3.1)
    2. Connect phone to a USB port directly on the computer
    3. Press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears, then continue pressing the home button alone until iTunes detects the phone in Recovery mode.
    4. Follow the prompts to restore.

  • IPhone 5 won't reboot past Apple logo. It will not show up in iTunes to perform a restore.

iPhone 5 won't reboot past Apple logo. It will not show up in iTunes to perform a restore. After the logo appears the phone will get switched of by its own. I updated my phone 2 days before.

The iPhone can only be serviced in the country where it has been bought, and it can't be shipped internationally to Apple Support, you'll or somebody else have to bring it personally. If you registered the phone with your Apple ID, you might not need the receipt, Apple Support should have your data.
Did you try to set it back to factory settings without using any backup afterwards?

  • My Iphone 4S keeps flashing between the Apple logo, blank screen and sign in.  It will not let me sign in, nor can I power it off.  Help!

My Iphone 4S keeps flashing between the Apple logo, blank screen and sign on screen.  It will not let me sign on or power off.  It started about 20 mins ago.  One of my friends started having the same issue at the same time.  How can I fix this?

    Hi Bucky16,
If you haven't already done so, you may want to reset the iPhone:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If the above does not resolve your issue, the next best step will be to restore your iPhone using a computer with iTunes:

    Thanks,

Did you try to remove the ipsw firmware file and restore, to make iTunes download a new copy from Apple?
    Those files are located here:
Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw)
iTunes uses "ipsw" files to restore your iPod or iPhone. If those files are unusable, then try deleting them, renaming them, or moving the file to a different directory. This will cause iTunes to download a new copy of the IPSW. When a restore issue is specific to a user, it is likely due to an unusable .ipsw file. If removing the .ipsw file does not resolve a user-specific restore issue, then the issue is caused by other user-specific security software settings or iTunes preferences. Creating a new user will also cause new .ipsw restore files to be downloaded in the new user. You can find the ".ipsw" files in these locations:
    Mac OS X
    iPhone
    ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
    iPad
    ~/Library/iTunes/iPad Software Updates
    iPod touch
    ~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates
Note: The tilde "~" represents your Home directory.
    Windows 7 and Vista
    iPhone
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
    iPad
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPad Software Updates
    iPod touch
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
