IPhone cannot be recognized as Camera in Windows Explorer

I have Vista 64 SP2 and installed the latest iTune 8.2.1.6. iPhone can be recognized in iTune with no problem. However, since I would like to load the photos from iPhone to my computer, I found out that there is no "Digital Camera" device in the explorer as expected.
I tried to reinstalled iTune and it doesn't work. In the Device Manager, the iPhone is recognized under Universal Serial Bus controllers named "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver". I checked other places like under Portable Devices but it's not there.
Then I noticed that the only way for my PC to recognize iPhone as camera and hence I can view and download the photos is after I uninstall "Apple Mobile Device Support". Then the iPhone will be shown up under Portable Devices in Device Manager as "Apple iPhone" However, iTune will stop recognize the iPhone.
So, does anyone experience the same problem? This is basically either (1) iTune recognize iPhone or (2) Windows recognize iPhone, but not both at the same time. Please suggest any potential cause for this issue as I am running out of any idea...

To be more precies, after i uninstall Apple Mobile Device Service, I will get the following error when I plug in my iPhone: "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes". Of course I tried that and it fixed the iTunes issue, but then now the PC not recognized the iPhone as a camera...

I connect my iPhone 3GS to my laptop to sync and it is not recognized as a digital camera and cannot download my photos to back up.  Rebuilt my laptop in the mean time and it recognized the camera on the phone, but when downloading the photos, it crashes half way through.  Any ideas?

  • IPhone 3G not show as Camera in windows explorer, but iTunes works?!

Every time I connect my iPhone, I get the New Found Hardware wizard which always fails to setup my device properly. The device does not show up in My Computer as a camera like it is supposed to. However, iTunes opens and syncs just fine with it. When I go to my windows hardware device manager it shows up "iPhone" but with the yellow exclamation point indicating a problem.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and updating my chipset drivers (Nvidia nforce2). I have also tried uninstalling the iPhone device from the Hardware Device Manager window, then plugging the phone back in.
    Nothing seems to work.
    Any Ideas?

When you have pictures stored on you iPhone you'll get this message upon plugging it in to your computer. Windows is trying to access it like it would any other digital camera. Just ignore it and use iTunes.

  • IPhone 4 not recognized in iTunes for Windows 8.1

I am using Windows 8.1 and the computer recognizes the device but not iTunes. I have tried deleting and re-installing iTunes as well as the device manager, but neither solution has fixed my problem. Any help is appreciated!

To Helpware, THANK YOU for keeping me from throwing out my Iphone and buying something else!
I can confirm that this also works on the Iphone 3GS with Windows 8.1.
Note: just uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes did NOT work for me. As this answer says, you need to unistall the Apple Device Driver too.
    Thank you again!

  • My iphone is not recognized in itunes for windows

I have followed the directions from apple support.  Uninstalled & reinstalled itunes, everything the page said to do & my phone isn't recognized in iTunes and it comes up as unkown device in windows.  Any suggestions?

If you went through items 1-6 at the bottom of the article and they didn't help then try uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components by following this article exactly: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 (removing all components in the order specified).  (I know you mentioned that you uninstalled iTunes but I wasn't sure if you followed this article or not.  If not, try it again following this article.)

  • IPhone 4 not recognized by iTunes. Windows 7

    Hi all,
I have read all the forums, my iPhone 4 is just not being recognized in iTunes
I have tried reinstalling iTunes. Gone to device manager, reset mobile service, followed all the apple support pages.
I have updated to the new iTunes and my iPhone isn't even being recognized in device manager, however does charge when I plug it in.
How's anyone faced this before and has solutions? Not just having the same problem.
My only thinking is I am on the previous operating system (4.3.2) because I had battery problems (overheating, rapid drain) and don't want to risk it happening again- it just fixed itself somehow.
I have no idea how to get it to show in iTunes...

to keep tradition, i am going to be the only person replying to this thread.
this is because i have fixed the problem. i changed the cable. simple as that.
i had a read around  - if it is not showing in your on your computer in your devices, then it is your computer / operating system problem.
if it is showing, then it is an itunes problem .
i know that sounds simple, but it made me think about what was my computer doing wrong. my cable was from an old ipod - and must have just worn out.
hope that helps some people - took me half a day but i got there.

  • Iphone not being recognized by Itunes for Windows. 0xE8000001 Error

I am trying to upload some music on to my new IPhone, every time i connect my iphone, itunes does not recognize it. I have the latest version of ITunes 7.5.0.2. I reinstalled itunes several times, restarted Apple Mobile Device Service serveral times but still no luck. Please Advise.

I had the same exact error. I am from the US and don't have any jailbreak crudy on my phone.
I fixed the problem by resetting and erasing the phone; shutting down the Mac; Resetting NVRAM (boot->CMD-O-F, 'reset-nvram', 'shut-down'); Resetting PRAM (boot->CMD-P-R, hold until it starts booting); load up iTunes; restore iPhone backup.
Do you have to go through all these steps? I don't know. But this worked for me.

  • IPhone 4s not recognized as device by Windows XP

Pretty simple.  For some reason today when I plugged in my iPhone to my computer, the computer would declare it an Unknown Device and I was unable to install drivers for it or even indicate what the device was.
I have followed EVERY instruction from Apple and every forums I could come across.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything twice now.  I have made sure the Mobile Device Support was active and automatic.  I have done everything.  Still nothing.
    I am at wit's end.

  • IPod touch not recognized in iTunes or Windows Explorer

I have a 4th Generation iPod touch that I purchased in March 2011. It has been working perfectly until quite recently when it stopped getting recognized on my computer. It does charge when I plug it in, but it doesn't show up in iTunes or in My Computer. I don't think there's any problem with the cable because I have already tried with a few different ones and they don't work either.
I have tried everything Apple suggests and it still doesn't work. Also, I tried putting the device into Recovery Mode but again, it doesn't show up on the computer. Any suggestions?

  • IPhone shows up in iTunes but not Windows Explorer (after most recent iPhone update)

The phone shows up as a device in Devices and Printers, but not in the Device Manager...
Tried other suggestions, iPhone was unlocked when plugged in, restarted phone, uninstalled driver, restarted phone, etc.  Running Windows 7, but same issue on other versions as well, all since last iPhone update.  I did not have any prior issues with getting to my photos in Explorer!!!!!

    Thanks.
That's wonderful, so now we are forced to use iTunes (the most unintuitive piece of crap program ever), or use a Mac and Image Capture??
or put them into the Cloud for everyone to see?

  • What next when iphone is recognized as camera?

New iPhone recognized as an imaging device (camera). Tried updating driver is device manager, stopped and started the apple mobile device in adminstrative options, unloaded and reloaded the newest version of iTunes, changed USB port and cable, restarted the phone, restarted the computer, disabled anti-virus software....what next?

Your new iPhone IS an "imaging device (camera)" and Windows recognizes it as such. If you open Explorer, you see your iPhone and can open and view and transfer your pics/videos out of there. Indeed AFAIK it's the only way to get your Camera Roll to your PC--iTunes won't do it by itself.
So you can't, nor do you want, to keep Windows from recognizing it as a camera.
