Iphone cannot charge / sync to MBP

My iphone 3G cannot charge or sync to MBP's usb ports (both of them). This was working fine yesterday, but today, I cannot seem to get it working.
What I have tried
- connected iphone to my imac, works!
- used the same sync cord to connect to the imac, so the issue is not that cord
- tried to use another sync cord to connect to MBP, no luck.
- connected iphone directly to an AC charger using same sync cord, works!
I think the issue is with my MBP. (system or hardware, I don't know). The system profiler recognizes the iphone plugged into the USB. Also, when the iphone is turned off, and then I plug it into the USB, it starts the phone, but doesn't charge or sync.
Should I wipe clean and restore system software?
Is this a hardware issue?

  • The iPhone cannot be synced. iTunes crashing.

There seems to be a whole “bunch of stuff” going on with my iMac 21” i3, and I just wanted to check in to see if anyone had experienced anything similar or had any advice.
First, when syncing my iPhone 4 last week I got this message:
"The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."
iTunes at the same time was freezing up, so I forced quit (silly perhaps).
When I restarted iTunes I got this:
“iTunes Library does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file.  iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed the file to "iTunes Library(Damaged)"
Some research some frustration and some time got my iTunes back up and running.
I was still getting the "The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." When attempting to sync by iPhone.
Finally I found a fix that worked online (not syncing photos!).
So that should be the end of the story.
But since then iTunes has been running SLLLLOOOOOWW, as has my system as a whole.
    Then last night:
"The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."
    Followed by:
“iTunes Library does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file.  iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed the file to "iTunes Library(Damaged)"
    So something be wack!
The only thing I could think of is I got an email from Apple telling me they needed to replace my hard drive free of charge as they were found to be faulty.
I’ve booked in with the Apple Store to have the drive replaced. But could it be the problem? Or do I have something else happening here.

  • The IPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to. THis appears after everything has synced but Photos. If you delete all the photos, the IPhone syncs fine.

So heres my problem... If I try to sync my iPhone or IPad to our computer I get an error that reads "The IPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." The error comes at the start of syncing the photos. I have removed the photos from my iPhone it syncs fine, so the problem has to be with the photo library, RIGHT? The problem is iI have never had this issue before. I have my iTunes and iPhoto on a external hard drive and this has been fine in the past, but now i can not even view my photos on my iTV... ANY HELP???

Since you noticed this problem, have you shut down (powered off) and restarted your iMac?
iPhoto does the syncing for photos.  Are you able to run iPhoto manually (start it up from the Dock) and access your photo library?

  • "The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."  Any clue what that is due to.  Everything but photos seem to sync fine.

when syncing, I get an error message stating: "The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."  Any clue what that is due to.  Everything but photos seem to sync fine.

I had the same problem when trying to sync my new ilPhone 4s and a fairly new iPad 2. I couldn't find anything in the forum about it. So, since my 4s was new, I called support and luckily I got a CSR with some knowledge. He at first thought it would be tough to fix but after thinking a minute he found the fix. The fix is:
Click on finder, Go, Home, Pictures, then click on iPod photo cache and drag it to trash. Now try syncing again. It worked on both of mine. No problems since.

  • "The iPhone cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found."

I have been having this problems since I got my iphone last year. Early on the phone would sync after 2-3 tries but as of the last 2-3 months I have been only able to sync it 2-3 times even after trying all the solutions presented by the troubleshooting and reading forum posts that seem to have a similar or near similar problem.
The first message I get after having the phone sync is
"The iPhone cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found."
After itunes attempts to sync again I get a different message that says
"The iPhone cannot be synced. An error occurred while writing to the device."

I had the same problem and fixed it.
"The iPhone cannot be synced. An error occurred while writing to the device."
I think it is caused by downloading too many apps, or large apps, and then when syncing over USB it doesn't recognise the iPhone and you get "The iPhone cannot be synced. An error occurred while writing to the device."
    To fix this:
    1. Ensure iTunes is closed & iPhone is disconnected but keep USB cable connected to iPhone
    2. hold down CTRL + SHIFT on your keyboard
    3. connect USB cable to PC and wait. If iTunes doesn't start for a minute then start it (keeping hold of CTRL + SHIFT)
    4. if it wont let you start iTunes or all your icons are selected then release CTRL + SHIFT
    5. when iTunes starts it may ask you about safe mode or something similar, say yes
    6. Your iPhone should list as a device as normal, click sync.
It will then start the sync as normal and you may find it will transfer only one or two apps and you may get the dreaded error message again as I did. However, persist with the above steps and eventually it sync'd all my apps with no error message. Because I have only just done this I haven't downloaded any more apps so it might be a frequent thing but better than the error message.

  • The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read or written to.

+The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read or written to.+
That's the message I get when I sync my iPhone now after flawless syncing since the second day they came on sale. I restarted, I repaired permissions. The iPhone is only half full. I have tried a couple of different usb to iPhone chords. After trouble shooting I have found that if I don't sync iPhoto it syncs everything else just fine. I have deleted the iPhoto prefs. I have reinstalled iLife. I have reinstalled iTunes and deleted the iTunes prefs. I have gotten a brand new iPhone from the Apple store. I have backed up and deleted every photo in iPhoto and it still gets the error message.
    Starting to get frustrated.

Unfortunately, I'm an Outlook junkie, and I need to sync my iPhone (1st Gen) with Outlook. I had no problems under XP. I even synced my device to Vista Business running out of Boot Camp and via Fusion.
When I upgraded to Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 (freshly installed) my iPhone refused to sync anything but my Contacts, Calendar, and Bookmarks. It didn't matter whether I was running under Fusion or natively via Boot Camp -- I would get a variety of errors, but mostly "the disk could not be read or written to" wtih the occassional "unknown error" thrown in to make my life even more miserable.
It would occasionally sync an audio or video file, but 99 times out of 100 it would die in the middle of the sync, trash something on the phone, and force me to restore it.
Restoration, though, was not possible under Windows. I would try repeatedly to restore the phone from Vista, with no success. In fact, I tried to install the updated 2.0 firmware last week, which "bricked" the phone for about 4 hours. The only way that I could restore the device was under OS X. Naturally, the error returned the first time I tried to sync on Windows again.
I was almost to the point of declaring the iPhone toasted, smashing the overpriced little trinket that's caused me so much agony into iPieces and then dropping it into an envelope and mailing it to Steve J. with a letter stating that a $600.00+ "revoltionary internet device" shouldn't croak 1 year after purchase.
    <RANT>
I mean think about it -- getting bent over on pricing 2 months after purchase, Apple releasing a 3G version barely one year later (and for significantly lower price than the original) and having to sign a 2 year contract with the baby Satan that is AT&T isn't exactly what I would call a GOOD experience. Not to mention the activation fiasco, etc.
    </RANT>
At any rate, all the Windows jokes aside, I believe I've finally solved my problem and it may help the others having this same problem on dual-core or hyperthreading processors.
With iTunes running, go to the Task Manager, select the Processes tab and find the iTunes processes (AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe, iTunes.exe, and iTunesHelper.exe). Right-click on each and select "Set Affinity..." from the context menu.
In the "Processor Affinity" dialog, you should see both CPU 0 and CPU 1 checked, which is the default. UN-CHECK CPU 1, so that only CPU 0 is checked, then click "OK".
You may need to retstart iTunes and/or the services, but I didn't need to do that (and technically, you shouldn't have to do that).
Try your sync again. I'm syncing flawlessly again after that little tweak. Perhaps this is something odd about iTunes under Windows on multi-core or hyperthreading processors (read: race condition or something similar)?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will continue to work, otherwise I go the smash-and-mail-to-Steve route.

  • ITunes suddenly mentions that my iPhone cannot be synced because it needs 6.55 additional GB, although my phone still has 2 GB free of space. How can I fix this?

iTunes suddenly mentions that my iPhone cannot be synced because it needs 6.55 additional GB, although my phone still has 2 GB free of space. How can I fix this?
iCloud is off on both my phone and my computer.

It is saying that the iPod does not have enough free storage to sync all the items yu have selected to sync to the iPod. You need 2.48 GB more free on the iPod. You need either to select less to sync or delete some content form the iPod.

  • I'm getting an error that says "The iPhone "------" cannot be synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." Everything will sync but the music. I am an administrator and all the files are organized. How do I sync my phone?

I cannot sync my iTunes library or any playlists to my iPhone due to a message that reads "The iPhone "-----" cannot be synced. You do not have enough access priviledges for this operation. I also have music on my iPhone that will not sync to my iTunes library. Any way to sync the two together?

I hope this helps.    Not the easiest fix, but I suspect it will solve the problem.

  • "Iphone cannot be synced. Disk not found/cant be read or written to"

I get these messages when I try to sync: "The iphone cannot be synced. The disk could not be found." AND "The iphone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."
It's synced twice out of about 50 tries. Windows XP Pro. Virus/Firewall disabled. Autoplay disabled. All other USB devices disconnected. ITunes reinstalled.
    Any ideas?

Update: Ok, I have been playing around with this for quite some time now and have come to a few conclusions.
First, it appears that this is being caused (at least for me) by corrupt files in my iTunes library. My iPod (30 GB, 5G) syncs with my complete library but my iPhone only syncs with 1 playlist. So I completely wiped all music from my iPhone and started to re-sync one album at a time (extremely time-consuming). I got through the letters 'A' and 'B' ok but when I got to the 'C's, boom, error message.
At this point, I opened the playlist in iTunes and deleted the last album I dragged into it. Then I disconnected my iPhone, re-connected it and did another sync, thereby deleting that last album off the iPhone. Then I added the next album and re-synced again and everything went smoothly. So now I am up to the letter 'G' but this process is painstakingly slow.
Now obviously it was most likely only one song in each of these "bad" albums that was corrupt but I didn't want to go song-by-song just yet.
Based on the fact that I used CopyTrans to rescue my library off my iPod after a hard drive crash, my first assumption is that this process somehow corrupted several files while loading them back into my newly installed version of iTunes. The only thing I can't figure out is, if this is actually the case, why have I not had the same problem syncing my iPod. It has been syncing perfectly, both before and after the hard drive crash/recovery?
What I need to find is a way to identify ALL of the corrupt files (if this is in fact what is causing the problem) quicker than copying to the playlist then syncing to the iPhone. Does anyone know of any software out there that can be used for this purpose? It doesn't have to be free either as, like CopyTrans, I don't mind paying for something that works. Of course, the jury is still out on that one.!

  • Iphone cannot be synced because it cannot be written to or read from

PLEASE help!!  I have 2 iPhones (hubby and mine) and an original iPad.  EVERYTIME I try to sync
I get almost done and then an error that says "iPhone cannot be synced because it cannot be read from or written to".
I've uninstalled itunes and reinstalled.  I've restored a back up.  I've even done a full restore on the phone
NOW I have nothing on the phone and it still won't sync.  Anyone have any idea what to do??
    THANKS SO MUCH

Did a health check on my Drive D:  Issues were found and repaired. Disabled Kaspersky and tried a sync with iTunes (Success). Re-enable Kaspersky and iTunes is still working.  Interesting in that I thought my iTunes only involved Drive C:  What led me to problems with Drive D: were indications that there was a problem with Adobe cache for Adobe Bridge.  I also purged that cache. In looking at my nightly backup there was also an indication there had been some intermittent issues of not being able to read the disk.
Bottom line...  all is working again and need to continue to monitor the health of my second hard drive.

The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. is preventing my iPhone from syncing. How do I fix it? I have changed permissions until blue in the face. What is going on? Why is this so hard? I just want to sync my phone.
A little background. My iTunes library is in a shared folder. My Aperture library is on a .DMG in the shared folder with "ignore permissions on this volume" checked. I have added myself with read and write privileges to everything that I can find. What gives? Thanks in advance.

PC, windows7, iphone4, updated iphone (5.0.1) and itunes (10.5.2.11) software. Started getting "iphone cannot be synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation" message.
Solution I found that worked: Uncheck "Sync photos from Iphone" in Itunes / Devices / Photos tab.

  • Lost my contacts and calendar since update and statesThe iPhone cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 1 MB required).e

I lost my contacts and calendar, and photos since the iOS update and and it states that my iPhone cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 1 MB required).   Also it shows that I am over capacity on my Capacity ruler but how do I unload some of that stuff so that I can increase my capacity and perhaps get this synching to work again.
    So frustrating!!

On your iPhone go to settings>general>about and next to "Available" if you dont have much space then you will need to delete stuff on the phone to make room to take photos by deleting stuff on the phone.
In terms of syncing change what you are syncing and decide what you would really want and not want on your phone which would make what is syncing to the phone smaller.

  • I plug my iphone 5s into my macbook pro, itunes says: The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1723).

Every time I plug my iPhone 5s (32 GB) into my macbook pro, iTunes says: The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1723). And none of my recently bought songs or my ringtones will transfer to my iPhone. I have iOS 8.1.2. I have only had this iPhone for about a month and a half. A week ago when I plugged it in it would say something along the lines of " This iPhone cannot be synced because the Photo library is not set up. Please try again later." What does that even mean? And now it is saying that it can't sync because of an unknown error. Well, how do I fix this? I have not yet downloaded the Yosemite update because it got horrible reviews and everyone I've talked to said their computer has gotten extra slow because of it so I was wondering if I need to download Yosemite so my iPhone will sync. I have tried turning my computer on and off, quitting and reopening iTunes, restarting my iPhone, and nothing has worked. I would really like to be able to transfer my music and ringtones etc. onto my phone.
    Thanks you!

You have told us you have iOS 8.1.2, and a non-current version of OS X   Do you also have an old iTunes?  Current is 12.0.1.  I'm quite certain iTunes 12 is required to sync with iOS 8.
The current iPhoto version is 9.6.  You are probably behind there as well, and that likely caused the first "photo ..." error.  As you may know, iOS is changing its approach to managing photos in iOS 8, so I would imagine it would be important to be current with this application.
