Iphone cannot connect to server during restore process?

I am trying to restore my iphone 4s (bought off a friend but reset to original settings) from an old iphone 3g back up. I've been following this process:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109
and got up to step 4, but after I enter my icloud details (which are correct, I've triple checked!) and accepted the terms and conditions, the phone cant get passed this step as it "cannot connect to the server"? I currently have it attached to my mac book and there is full wifi.
help!

That message can be for a varitey of things, not limited to but including;
Failure to connect between the carrier's activation server and the Apple activation server.
Failure to connect between the Apple activation server and your internet source.
Failure to connect between the internet source (cable) and the WiFi router.
Failure to connect between the WiFi router and the device itself.
You choice is to either troubleshoot or wait it out.

  • IPhone cannot connect to server: I have one iPhone that has just been updated to 5.1.1 that now cannot receive email, other devices that have been updated continue to work!

We run a SBS 2003 Exhange box, however since an over-the-air update this particular handset has refused to recieve mail from Exchange (apparently Yahoo had issues too).
Authentication is fine, it will happily recognise the account if it is deleted and set up - once the user tries to recieve mail however it will annonce that the connection to the server failed.
We have several other devices on the same iOS version and others below which are working fine!
Mobile access is enabled along with all expected services with no errors being flagged in the event manager for this user - I'm not wondering what might be the cause! Something in his mail box that iOS 5.1.1 doesn't like?!
Short of a backup/restore of the device I'm can't see anything to help...

It would worth your asking in the Final Cut Pro X forum - someone else may have experienced the same problem.
I assume you have already trashed Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.dotmac... (several files beginning with this) and (same path) com.apple.idisk - though I suspect the problem lies rather with the individual programs which are trying to access something on the non-existent iDisk.

  • MacBook Pro, iPad IV and iPhone 4S Cannot Connect to Server

I have a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion 10.8.5, and an iPad IV, both less than three months old. I also have a pair of iPhone 4s's.
All of a sudden none of them can reliably connect to our AT&T Wireless home internet. There are particular websites we are blocked from viewing, notably any apple website, including apple.com, apple support, itunes, and App store, but also random ones like Wikipedia and others. We constantly get the "cannot connect to server" message. Yet other websites load right up with no problem.
Many  websites are seriously snarled up, particularly Ebay, which is a critical one for me to have quick access to. Ebay screens are scrambled and out of order, act like purchases are being made when they're not, and photos don't show. All we get is little blue questionmarks.
Multiple  PCs running on our home network work just fine, and we can get into any website with them. But ANY apple product is just stymied. We can turn off wifi on the phones, and get into websites with 3g, but as soon as the wife is turned back on, we're back to square one.
Nothing has changed on our network recently, although we did get a new router about three months ago after having consistent outages. I have noticed our wifi getting glitchier and slower as time goes by,  but again, it affects the Apple products, until it just went totally haywire last week.
My husband gets wifi at work just fine, and I am accessing wifi quickly and accurately on the MBP at this very moment on a museum network.
The issue seems to be the AT&T home network, and very specifically with the full line of Apple products.
Any clean and easy suggestions? I don't want to have to jump through hoops on four different products, and I now suspect it's something to do with AT&T?

    Pleeeeeeease. Somebody? Anybody?
I can't get into Facebook, or Ebay on my MacBook. Life is too short to weep and lose hair over computers. Surely there's a quick fix I just haven't thought of?

  • IPhone 5 won't let me set up yahoo mail it just says cannot connect to server

I've just set up my mother in laws new iPhone 5 and everything was fine until I tried to set up yahoo mail, i just got a message saying cannot connect to server, any ideas how to fix?
Also has signal issues compared to 4s.
    Thanks
    Zoomer.

When you set it up, under settings, Add Account but don't select "yahoo!" select "Other" instead and then set it up...

  • I have just added Facebook app. When trying to register it in Settings it won't accept password - says cannot connect to server. Working fine otherwise

Having just joined Facebook, I have added the App to my iPhone and iPad mini but the iPad mini is coming up with an error message when trying to log it in Settings. Seems to be stuck in loop "cannot connect to server"

You can't override it no matter what you do. The device has to connect to the server to complete the iOS update. You could try rebooting the iPad and see if that lets you connect to the server after it starts up.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that will not work, you can try connecting to iTunes on your computer and see if the activation will complete. Sometimes when thes activation issues arise, you end up having to restore the device again, but first things first. Reboot and see what happens.

  • TS1702 My iphone cannot connect to itunes

My iphone cannot connect to itunes store

    Hi
This problem has been plaguing me for weeks. All other solutions had no effect. Putting forward the date by two years then gave an error message in the app store that my username could not be verified by a secure server, please reset date and time. I then set the date and time back to auto and was then able to reconcet to updates as before. Thanks very much to whoever figured this out

  • Safari Cannot Connect with Server (mountain lion) on wifi

I Posted this under Mountain Lion as Safari had no connectivity issues for me when I got my mbp and it had lion installed and ran beautifully-
NOW my apple (s) run fine on mountain lion
    for a little bit,
and then I get "Safari Cannot Connect to Server"
Now during this frequent occurance the  APP store hangs and hangs as well.
    This is most annoying-
The only way to use my apple products after this happens is to restart them
and then they work until they go into sleep mode,
sometimes they screw up before that and then
    "Safari Cannot Connect to Server"
my Airport utility shows that it is scanning for  networks-
When I was right in the middle of buying something from amazon-- I had to go to my decrepit old windows xp connected up only for cox email to complete the transaction-
This is not acceptable. Since it occurs on both of my apple computers and only started when I installed mountain lion.
This has continually gotten worse to the point I must restart my laptop continually-
Apple better get the lead out of their butts and fix this glaring fault- or should I install another web browser?
which I am disinclined to do-
I spent a fortune on these apple products and I expect them to work properly- I went to apple because I was so sick of microsoft and its endless headaches and updates and freezes lol--
kind of funny if you think about it.

    Hi BSU1960,
I found the solution to my problem on a different forum.  Turns out for some reason the anti-virus software that I run was interferring with my browsers' connecting to the internet.  Once I disabled the web protion of the anti-virus my problem went away.
I have a question to Kaspersky Security, hopefully will find out what was the root cause.

  • Cannot connect to server on one email on 5s

My iphone 5s says "cannot connect to server" when I attempt to retrieve email on 1 of my email accounts

    Hi chiknfoot1,
If you are having issues with getting email from one of your email accounts, take a look at the article below to resolve most issues with the Mail app on your iPhone. Check the settings and make sure that you are connected to the right email servers. You may end up having to remove the email account and then add it back in.

    Hi:
If you connect to the network via an ethernet cable, did you install the ethernet driver for your PC?
Or if you connect to the network wirelessly, did you install the wireless driver?
If you have installed either driver, unfortunately, I do not know what you can do about that problem.

  • Photoshop Touch: Cannot connect to server

I have Photoshop Touch (version 1.7.5) installed on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (with the latest firmware). When I try to open files from my Creative Cloud, I get an error message that says: "Lost connection. Cannot connect to server". It's strange because I can see my folders, and the error message appears just after I click one of my folders to view it's containg files. I have tried to log off / log on and reboot the device, but it doesn't help. I can access my cloud files from a PC and I am sure the user name and password are correct. Does anyone know a way to fix this problem? Thanks in advance!:)

Sometimes the sign-in process goes kablooey for whatever reason. It can usually be remedied by tapping the options icon (the cogwheel out in the project selection user interface; upper right) > My Account. Sign in that way and you should be able to get everything going again. I just did it on my Google Nexus 7 2013 with no problems.
