Iphone causes windows XP to crash

Whenever I plug my Iphone into the USB, I get an instant reboot.
Itunes 9.0.2.25
Windows XP pro SP3
If I uninstall Itunes, the phone is recognized by Windows and no crashes occur. With Itunes installed, as soon as I plug in my Iphone...the computer reboots.
This is a fresh xp install, all drivers are up to date.
I ran the diagnostics on Itunes, and of course..I can't plug in my Iphone to check connectivity. As soon as I do, it causes a reboot.
Ran Apple Software update and nothing else is available for download.

Any photos in your camera roll on the phone? More importantly, any that were emailed to you or downloaded through safari? If so, try deleting them.
Also, read through this article to verify that the iphone driver/service are installed properly:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
Also, I don't use windows, so don't know exactly what image capture program is used in XP, but try making sure that whatever program that is is set to do nothing when a camera is attached.

  • IPhone causes Windows XP to crash when connected

Connecting the usb adapter from the PC to the iPhone causes a blue screen of death (BSOD).
Originally, I connected the iPhone to my Dell XPS m1210 and iTunes 7.3 to activate. Activation was seamless. It immediately recognized the iPhone and didn't cause any problems.
After activation, I disconnected the iPhone. When I reconnected it (literally plugged in the cable), my Dell started to recognize the device. Then it went directly to a BSOD. The BSOD doesn't contain the name of any file. Microsoft error reporting says the file is corrupted, so it can't analyze the problem. The problem happens again and again.
Since then, I have restarted my computer a few times, reinstalled iTunes twice, updated my usb drivers, all without any success.
Has anyone else experienced the problem? Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Let's try getting a minidump to the Apple Engineers for a look.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
Generate the crash, collect the minidump, and send it as an attachment to this email address

  • Ejecting iphone causes Windows Explorer to crash

    Hi Guys
After I've synced my iphone in itunes when I eject or remove the iphone from the dock Windows Explorer always "crashes", well it restarts and windows says there has been a problem.
I've got the latest updates for both iphone and itunes. i had the same problem with vista as well (I know I know!).
Any ideas about how to prevent it? Its not terminal just a bit of a pain.
    Thanks in advance

I don't think that this is an iPhone issue. My wife uses Vista and a 3GS and doesn't have the same problem so my guess is that it's a PC config issue.

  • IPhone causes Windows XP to crash when connected: This is the solution...

I've the solution to the problem....!!!
This message is in response to a problem reported originally by swinglinestapler on jul 2, 2007.
Like others before me have said, there is a conflict between logitech camera drivers and the iphone (when there are photos in the camera roll).
To solve the problem you MUST:
1.- Unistall the logitech camera from your system (using the uninstall option from logitech appl); restart your system.
2.- Connect your iphone (make sure you have some photos in the camera roll)
3.- Wait until the system recognize the camera on the iphone.
4.- Go to device manager and update the driver for the iphone camera; if you open "my computer" it will show a camera icon with the name "Apple iphone #5"
5.- DO NOT UNPLUG the iphone from your computer
6.- Re-install the logitech camera; it's better if you go to the logitech website and download the latest software, rather then using the one that came with your camera.
    You're DONE!
Now you can unplug your iphone, take as many pictures as you want and your system will not crash when you plug the iphone again to it.

  • Re: iPhone causes Windows XP to crash when connected

I too am having this issue, but do not have a logitech web cam installed.
Vista Ultimate and XP both die if I dock the iphone with pictures in it.

    docnzok,
This issue can occur because of a conflict with other devices drivers. Even if those devices are not currently installed. While the Logitech Webcam is one many users have reported, it and others are discussed in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306048
Even if you don't currently have a device attached, it may have drivers left behind.
Do you have a media card reader, for example to read the memory cards from a digital camera? Do you have a scanner attached?
If you remove the pictures you have taken on the iPhone, for example after emailing them to yourself, does the same issue occur?
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Starting Firefox in Private mode from the pinned ico in taskbar causes Windows Explorer to crash.

Starting Firefox in Private mode from the pinned icon in taskbar (right click, choose "New Private Window") causes Windows Explorer to crash almost everytime, but not always. Very odd.
Didn´t happen with previous versions of Firefox.
Firefox 22.0, Win 7 Ultimate with all updates applied.

    Hello Paul,
That's a very odd behavior indeed. All I can think of is that an add-on is confused and makes Firefox crash. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • IPhone causes Windows to crash immediately when Camera app is on...

I sync my iPhone with two computers: an iMac for music, videos & photos, and my Dell Inspiron D860 running Windows XP for my work e-mail, contacts, and calendar.
If I have taken a photo with the iPhone and either leave my iPhone in Camera mode, or have even left any photos in the "Camera Roll" album in the Photos app, then my Windows PC crashes immediately when I hook the camera up for a sync. As soon as the USB cable makes a connection, I get an instant blue screen: informing me of a BIOS memory error and a message saying that Windows is shutting down to prevent further damage. So, I disconnect the iPhone and reboot the computer.
However, if I delete any images in the Camera Roll album of Photos and make sure that the iPhone is not running Camera when I plug it in, I can sync between the iPhone and iTunes on Windows XP flawlessly.
The irony here is that I have left the sync Photos box unchecked in iTunes on the Dell running XP. So, technically, nothing in the Camera or Photos apps on my iPhone should even be communicating with software on the XP system.
Have other folks experienced this problem? If not, perhaps I'm doing something wrong and would appreciate any insights!!
    Thanks

    I finally nailed it.
i have a Acer Aspire notebook with orbicam and i had the latest driver from ACER but still had some problems on XP but deleted everything (Orbicam drivers and camera utility from Control Panel) also i verified that everything was gone in MY PC / Properties / Hardware / Device Manager / Imaging Devices (if not, uninstall the Orbicam from there.
then i restarted my computer and installed Logitech Quickcam utility version 10.5 from logitech site (from the Quickcam 4000) that i previously downloaded, everything went ok.. i restarted again my computer and my camera worked perfecty and also i was able to connect my iphone with photos in camera roll and XP detected it normally without any trouble. The only thing that came out after doing this is that my Orbicam appears in the SAFE DEVICE REMOVAL UTILITY right next to the other utility icons and the clock. i will try to solve this and post any coments.
I hope this info is useful for others like me with this issue.

  • Blu-ray creation causes windows blue screen crash

I am testing Premier Elements 7 for the creation of best quality DVD and Blu ray disks. Source is AVCHD 1920x1080i and I have managed to create a number of DVD's and one Bluray without problem. My latest trial creating a Bluray disk failed at about 98%, burn in progress with a Device Error message. This resulted in a blue screen windows crash. Far more worrying is if I re-insert that BD RE disk back into my PC to erase it and try again, it immediately prompts a Blue screen windows crash, so I guess the disk is ruined. I have previously used Premiere Pro, Ulead and more recently Cyberlink Power Director and Sony Vegas. The quality of the DVD footage produced by Premier is far superior and the Bluray output was also excellent. Cyberlink has proved to be a good package appart from the poor quality of re-rendered output. Sony Vegas Pro seems the only one to recognise raw AVCHD footage and opt not to recompress it!!! The Movie Studio version doesn't appear to do this, however, I have only had a limited go at the trials. I had narrowed my choice to upgrading to Adobe Premier, or the cheaper Elements 7 which suits my requirements for home movies, however, a major windows crash, which I tend never to get has got me running scared. Why o why is there not a burn to hard disk option for Bluray creation as for DVD? Has anyone experienced a similar problem - any ideas as to what I could try?

A BSOD situation normally indicates something is wrong systemicly with the computer. It can be either software (usually OS), or hardware related.
The first thing that I would do would be to gather all info on your system and list full OS, version, updates, etc., and all hardware specs. Something in those lists might provide a clue.
Next, I'd look carefully at Event Viewer, especially at the System and Applications tabs. Look for yellow warning messages at the time of the BSOD, and especially the red error messages. It might be easier to invoke a BSOD, so you will know the exact time and date of the crash. Study each yellow and each red message carefully. Many might not yield much useful info, but some might tell you a lot of about what is happening, and may even give you the cause. Please explore every link that is offered in each of these messages. They should take you to either the MS site, or to the site of a software, or hardware company. These will likely be where you'll gather the most important data.
Here's what to look for in Event Viewer:
Give us any details found there.
Also, see this LINK. The video is a bit long, but will furnish you with a lot of troubleshooting tips, and also tools from MS. Make notes of these tools and their use.
    Good luck,

  • Ipod causes windows XP to crash upon connecting to craddle

I have an ipod that crashes xp every time I connect it to the PC. I have reset the ipod, and have re-installed win xp. I never had this before I updated to new apple itunes. What is going on?

I've noticed that you've asked that question a lot.
that's not surprising, Novy. blue screens are one of my "advice fields." (by no means the most common problem i work on, though. you can check whether or not i'm telling the truth about that by simply clicking on my alias and looking through a random sample of about 100 of the different threads you find me involved in. truth is important.)
i ask about the numerical and text codes of BSODs because there are literally dozens of different blue screen messages that you can get on a Windows PC. see:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
... and by cross-referencing the error codes with other information (like the circumstances of the BSOD, event log records on the PC in question, and any information showing up in the Device Manager on the PC), we can get a heads-up on a possible cause.
for example (not suggesting that this is your problem, it's just an example of the cross-referencing in action), one of the first thing i check for if people are reporting an 0x00000050 PAGEFAULT_IN_NONPAGEDAREA when they either launch itunes, import a CD in itunes, or (of all things) plug in an ipod, is this particular problem:
Easy CD Creator 5.0 Does Not Function In Windows XP
because truth is important, here's a search on the 0x00000050 code delimited by my alias:
    b noir: 0x00000050
back to your startup blue screen:
The only error messages that I get is the one that asks you if you want to start up in safe mode or start up normally because the system unexpectedly shut down because of a power/software/hardware issue.
could you give us the precise text of that error message? (a search of the KB docs at MS on segments of the precise text can often pull up some information on an error message like that.)
    love, b

  • MSI Live Update Installation Causes Windows XP To CRASH!!

    I have a MSI K9VGM-V (MS-7253). Product specs are here: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K9VGM-V
I have attempted to obtain my updates for my drivers and utilities. MSI uses the Live Update to detect and suggest these for your system. However, I cannot get the software to install to my PC. I have tried to do in through the website AND by downloading it and running it off the hard drive. Each time it gets into the install process and during it - (Boom) - My PC Reboots. When Windows XP (Home Edition) boots up, it says "Windows has just recovered from a serious error." It goes through the reporting to Microsoft process and takes you to their website where it says "You have received a blue screen error. Unfortunatly we were unable to detect what caused this." Then goes on to suggest to restore your files or restore to an earlier state if your system has become unstable (blah blah). Now I really didn't ACTAULLY see a blue screen, the PC just rebooted. I am aware of the blue screen of death and all that. I understand the concept. But I don't know what could be wrong. My system is very basic with little upgrading from me. I have installed all the Windows Critical Updates, so I am now running Windows Service Pack 3. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I tell you that.
NOTE: And the following might not have anything to do with my problem but I noticed on MSI's web site, located at this URL: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=1&prod_no=260
they say give a warning about MSI Live Update when installing it to my PC/Board. Look under the MSI Live Update Utility at the "Notes." It says:
"For K9VGM-V (MS-7253) mainboard, please do not select the DMI optopn.
Now I don't know what DMI means except maybe "Definition Multimedia Interface." And I don't get the chance to select any option during the process. If I do, the process hasn't made it that far before my PC crashes, and re-boots. Please, anybody got anything on this? Thank you.

Thank you so much. I just want to say I really appreciate when people do take the time to post me in return. So I really mean it, Thank You.
A quick question. You see, I have been upgrading my computer. I installed a Belkin USB USB Card (high speed 2.0) cause I needed more USB ports. Then I checked for compatable RAM and upgraded my RAM from 512MB to 2Gigs. Everything alright.
Now, I have checked for processors that are compatable with my board K9VGM-V (MS-7253). And MSI's chart says mine is compatable with the AMD Athlon 2x 6000 (3.0Ghz) *IF* I use the 89 watt and not the 125 watt. Here is a good URL for the processor details I found:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Athlon%2064%20X2%206000+%20-%20ADA6000IAA6CZ%20(ADA6000CZBOX).html
Now do you have any tips and I will probably have to flash to BIOS for sure after this upgrade won't I?

  • Desktop software causes Windows 7 to crash

I have been using Desktop Software for ages now, very successfully on the Windows XP Pro platform.  I have now changed to Windows 7 Pro.  Although I have downloaded and installed the latest Desktop software build, which is supposed to be Windows 7-compatible, it is certainly not on my machine.
What happens is this:  When I first install the Desktop software, and start it, and use it to sync with Outlook, it works fine.  Eventually of course I shut down the computer at the end of the session.
The problem occurs when I next trry to boot up.  Every time I do this I get a blue screen crash long before any welcome screen appears.  The blue screen doesn't last long enough for me to read what it says but the effect is clear - no boot until a repair of some sort is done.  I have found that the only way to achieve a successful boot after this is to take the repair option and then the restore option to a time before installing the Blackberry Desktop software.
This has happened so many times now, with other software and hardware being installed at different times perfectly successfully.  Only Blackberry Desktiop software causes these crashes.  I have gone through this process at least a dozen times now, all with exactly the same effect.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

ive recently run into this problem as well with windows 7 on my gf's pc. both got 9700 bold's mine worked out fine with vista, but her comppy wont boot. bout as far as i can get from school is to walk her through booting into safe mode to uninstall the bb app til i can get home lol.. kinda screwwy that i cant really find much useful information about it in the past hour or so
about the only thing that has shown up was a 'problem signature 07' screen saying badpatch.. apparently no decent error code to lookup.. help!

  • Flash updates cause Windows 7 to crash

I generally leave my HP laptop in Hybernate mode over night. (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit)
I have noticed that every few weeks when I go to start up my laptop in the morning, I will see the black screen that says that Windows shut down abnormally and I am given the option to start in Safe Mode or Start Normally.  I always just start normally.  Then when windows starts up and I login I see a Flash Player update box telling me that there is an new version of Flash waiting to be installed.
Since I have see this same Flash message on several crashes over the past few months, I am almost certain that Flash has something to do with the problem.  I have seen this same scenario on another Windows 7 laptop (Windows 7 Home Edition 32 bit) as well.
    Both computers are running IE9.
Has anyone seen this before?  Any suggestions about what might be the cause of the problem?

  • ITUNES 11.3.1 CAUSES  WINDOWS 7 TO CRASH

After installing iTunes 11.3.1, my Windows 7 crashed at home and my office.
I had to reinstall iTunes 11.3.0. This solved the immediate problem.
Also, Safari was causing my work computer to crash, until I uninstalled it.
The question is...Are others experiencing the same problems? And is there a fix?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.
