IPhone charging question...

My iPhone does not charge on my car unit. It plays the iPhone over the car speakers and uses bluetooth for the phone like it should. It will charge an iPod just fine, but not my iPhone. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem with car units?

Very common. Searching these forums will yield dozens of threads on this issue.
Most often this problem is found on German cars, the makers of which ignored Apple's advisory, out for over a year, that all charging was going to be done by USB and not Firewire going forward.

I do this all the time, so yes, you can.

  • IPhone charge question

I charge my phone all night till I wake up. I woke up this morning and used it formansec while it was charging then left it alone and when I unplugged the charger it said 98% but when it's plugged in it says 100%. Anyone know why ??!

First, your battery meter is not always 100% accurate. You can re-calibrate it by completely draining your battery until the phone shuts off, then charging to full.

  • IPhone Charger Lifetime

Is the lifetime of an iPhone charger extended by unplugging it from the AC power source except when it is actually charging the phone?
I leave mine plugged in continuously 24/7 even though my iPhone may be charging only 6 hours a day. I know that it uses power but only about $0.42 per year at average US rates. My question is "do I extend it's life by unplugging it or does the stress and surge of plugging and uplugging decreas the lifetime of the charger?
    Thank you community.

  • What happens if an iPhone charger receive a high voltage, would the iPhone get burnt or the charger?

What happens if an iPhone charger receive a high voltage, would the iPhone get burnt or the charger?

"If I charged my iPhone with a charger and the electric voltage was 260V"
Why would you do that?  The power adapter has protective circuits at both the input and output.  If you attached 260VAC to the input, it is likely to shut down, and can be reset by unplugging the power adapter, and plugging it into an AC outlet with the proper voltage.  I'm sure you have plenty of follow-on questions ("how about 400VAC, 2000VAC, a million billion trillion volts AC), and I won't entertain those.

  • Why does my 3rd gen ipad only charge with an iPhone charger and not the 10w charger it came with?

Im only asking this because it's annoying me , but my 3rd gem ipad will not charge with its 10w charger ? It will happily charge with my iPhone charger, and my iPhone will happily charge with the 10w charger but why won't the ipad charge with the charger it came with ? Any ideas ?

The cable for your 10W charger may be defective.

  • Understanding iPhone Charging and Power Adapters

I've been in a protracted discussion (now locked) regarding iPhone battery charging and whether it is harmful/helpful to use the iPad power adapter rather than the iPhone power adapter.
There are a lot of misconceptions related to iPhone charging and current ratings on the iPhone and iPad power adapters.  As an electrical engineer, I'd like to clear up some misconceptions.
Apple supplies a power adapter, not a "battery charger," with the iPhone and iPad.
The iPhone power adapter supplies a constant 5V at up to 1A (rated–independent tests have shown that it can supply almost 1.8A).
The iPad power adapter supplies a constant 5V at up to 2 or 2.1A (rated).
The iPhone's battery charging voltage and current are regulated within the phone.
The iPhone's battery is rated at 3.7V.  Charged with the raw 5V from the power adapter, it would be destroyed.  Fortunately, the internal regulation in the iPhone prevents that.
The maximum current that an iPhone will draw from a 5V power adapter is right around 1 amp.  It does not matter if the charger is capable of supplying more, that's the most that the iPhone will use.
Because of the internal charge regulation, the iPhone battery will not charge any faster on an iPad power adapter than on an iPhone power adapter.
Apple approves the use of the iPad power adapter with the iPhone. It is completely safe for that purpose and does not harm the phone or battery in any way.
A water analogy might make this much easier for people without electrical engineering background to understand.
Water pressure (psi) is analogous to voltage.
Water flow (gallons per minute) is equivalent to current flow (amps).
A faucet valve is analogous to the iPhones battery charging regulation circuitry.
A bucket's capacity (gallons) is analogous to a battery's capacity (amp-hours or AH).
Let's say you adjust the faucet to flow 1/10 of a gallon per hour.  The five gallon bucket will take 50 minutes to fill up.  Easy enough.  But then...
You need a lot more water flow for a new sprinkler system.
You need a lot more current for your new iPad.
Since the water pressure is constant at 80psi, the only way to get more flow use a bigger supply line.
Since the voltage is constant at 5V, the only way to get more current is to use a higher current power adapter.
After installing the new higher capacity water supply line, you go out to your faucet and adjust it to 1/10 of a gallon per hour.
After plugging in the higher capacity iPad adapter, you plug in your iPhone and its charging regulation circuitry adjusts the current flow to about an amp.
The bucket still takes just as long to fill up.
The battery still takes just as long to charge.
The faucet is not under additional strain since the pressure is still 80psi.
The iPhone's battery charging circuitry is not under additional strain since the supply voltage is still 5V.
I hope that I've clarified this for those who want to better understand the subject.

As far as the battery status, the tiny little icon in
the upper right corner of the screen is somewhat
helpful, but while it is connected it does not
actually indicate the level of the charge or that the
Iphone is charging. I was hoping to find a more
informative screen that would give better battery
details. When you first connect the iPhone sometimes
I get a large battery icon that shows the level
visually Is there a way to navigate to this screen?
    1. Press the top button to turn the display off if it's not off already.
    2. Connect to a power source.
    3. The screen should display a large battery meter in the middle of the screen that actually shows the state of charge, even if charging.
If you don't see this plugged into your Mac try the AC adapter that came with the phone. If you still don't see it take it to an Apple store.

  • HT1476 iPhone charges on dock connected to laptop but not dock connected to wall charger

I used to charge my iPhone at night connected to a wall charger.  Sometimes I would get an inverted yellow triangle with the message that the device di not support charging, but it would still charge. Now for some reason it gives the message and really won't charge.  I have bought a dock to see if it was the wall charger but although the dock works fine when connected by usb to the laptop, I still can't charge when connected to the wall charger.  It is an intermittent problem so I don't think it has anything to do with a dirty connector.

Just to let everyone know, I bought an apple plug and that has solved the problem.  Not only does it charge without query but it's twice as fast.

  • I mistake to using Iphone charger to recharge my Ipad and now the Ipad can't recharge thou.

I mistake to using Iphone charger to recharge my Ipad and now the Ipad can't recharge by the original charger. How can I do?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • HT1476 why wont my iphone charge from my new computer?

My iphone 4s will not charge from my new computer any ideas?

Fault with new computer's USB port - does it work with other devices? Have same problem on another computer?
Fault with cable - Tried another cable? Does cable work with other "idevices"?
Dirt in iPhone charging port - look and clean out gently with soft dry toothbrush or similar
Fault with iPhone - reset / restore
    Take your choice.

    Hi All, Wanted to share!
As some of you may know, we had a pretty scary incident recently. Attached are pictures of what remains of our 2007 Suburban. We are all okay but I wanted to warn everyone not to make the same mistake I did. This fire resulted from leaving an iPhone charger/docking station plugged into the car outlet. It overheated and started a fire, while parked in our garage. PLEASE unplug anything you have in your car outlets once you turn off your car!
We were VERY fortunate that we found the fire, at 11pm, before going to bed and before it spread to the house. None of our garage heat detectors or house fire alarms went off (another item to take care of on my “to do” list).  Feel free to pass this along to anyone you want. Better safe than sorry.
