IPhone chooses Bluetooth instead of handset

My iPhone is paired to the handsfree device in my car ('07 Altima Hybrid), but to no other device.
Sometimes when I am nowhere near my car, I try to place a call, and the iPhone automatically chooses Bluetooth instead of the iPhone handset. The call goes through, but I can't hear anything. I know I can select the iPhone handset by touching the corresponding button, but why should I have to do that in the first place?

I have to concur with Locondcoco. I don't think this issue is Bluetooth specific. I performed a iPhone "Restore" via iTunes this morning before I left for work (backup, restore, and sync < 45 min). iPhone was back to normal operation. I choose to reframed from using by bluetooth headset. I had bought a Apple iPod composite cable (usb sync cable with A/V terminals to plug to your TV and stuff) and have been using it for a few months now. I use it when I need to recharge, sync to my work laptop, and use on the hotel TVs (wherever).
I had taken some photos on the iPhone of notes I had written on a white board I wanted to email out and archive to the network share. After I sent the email and unplugged my iPhone from my laptop the iPhone started to act up again with the exact symptoms we have been discussing. Ironically enough 1.5 hours later, subscribed to this discussion, I got the email of your posts.
I tried to connect and disconnect the iPhone from the sync cable a few time. No success. I got home and plugged in and removed the iPhone earbud headset. Like you said, it took a few attempts but finally reset itself. "Restore" not required. One interesting observation I noticed that while it was acting up that everytime I plugged in the earbud headset it automatically start playing a song from my play list. I am making a note to self to keep the earbud headset handy until I understand what triggers this issue.
What gets me is that I have been using the sync cable and my bluetooth headset for months now (even before 1.1.4). I'm curious to know what happened this last weekends trip that all of a sudden triggered this issue. Thanks Locondcoco!

I have rebooted the iPhone; I have had it forget about the wireless earbuds, and repaired and reconnected; I have reset all network settings. Thx in advance.
PS: I understand that more recent versions of iOS have a way to choose where audio output goes (speaker, headphone jack, Bluetooth device). Does this older version of iOS? I could not find an option or setting.

I've noticed this lately as well, with my iPhone 4. I couldn't confidently pin it directly on any particular iOS update, but my iPhone used to automatically connect up via Bluetooth with my Prius's handsfree feature, and now it doesn't. I work with a CE-based device at my job, with Bluetooth capability, and I used to test out that feature by having it discover my iPhone. This no longer works either.
What I have found (not really a solution, but it does work and may be a clue for Apple) is that if I simply go to the Settings app then the General -> Bluetooth screen and let it sit there, it will pair right up with my car within a few seconds. Bluetooth is always on, and always says "Now Discoverable" at the bottom of the settings screen.

I would also like this issue addressed.
I am using a Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and when it is connected to my iPhone 4, email and text sounds are not audible through the phone. The phone just vibrates when a new text or email is received.
I don't really care if it plays through the headset, but it should at least play through the phone. I tested the headset from a BlackBerry and the alerts play fine.

Interrupted my Restore iPhone 4 on my new handset and now I can't do it?

I smashed my iPhone 4 a couple of weeks ago and got a brand new handset today in the Apple Store. The genius guy restored my contacts onto it so when i got home I connected it to iTunes, worked through the "get started" menu and opted for restore this iPhone from iCloud (instead of restore as a new phone). It was all going perfectly and the phone was 10mins off being fully restored until my laptop ran out of battery and switched itself off! Now when i connect the phone to iTunes there is no get started menu and the only option i have for restore is for factory settings!! Is there any way I can get back to restoring? I don't want to lose my messages/photos/notes/emails or music!!! please help

IPhone 5S Bluetooth call quality

Problem: Degraded iPhone sound quality over Bluetooth when making voice call, FaceTime video/audio calls and Siri requests.
I have been waiting for Apple to release a software update to fix this issue for some time. It appears to be a known issue however I have yet to see a response from Apple regarding the issue. Oddly, streaming music from my iPhone via Bluetooth delivers crystal clear sound. I suspect the iPhone uses a different Bluetooth profile for call streaming. Would someone be able to confirm this?
It is worth noting that I am having this issue with every one of my Bluetooth devices. I have a Bluetooth-enabled Sony HiFi, Sony Bluetooth earphones and a Pioneer car stereo system with Parrot Bluetooth.
Does anybody else have this issue? Would someone else with an iPhone 5S + Bluetooth devices be able to try and see if they share the exact same problem (that is degraded sound quality when making FaceTime video/audio calls and Siri requests over Blueooth)

The iPhone can only be discovered when you are in the Bluetooth menu at Settings > Bluetooth. You'll see under Devices it shows Now Discoverable.
If you are not at this menu, it is not discoverable anmd it will not show up on other devices.
Simply having BlueTooth on does not make it discoverable.

Problems with Bluetooth connections are generally traced back to the vehicle. If you search here in the forum you will find a number of posts with issues connecting with Honda vehicles. Try removing the phone from the vehicle's list of Bluetooth devices. Then try removing the vehicle from the iPhone's list of Bluetooth devices. Then place both devices back in discovery/pairing mode and try to connect them. You may need to take the device to the dealer to check for software updates.
Next, I understand it used to connect, however software updates for the iPhone will load the latest Bluetooth stack into the phone and vehicles do not always get updated as often. Macbook pro connects to iphone through bluetooth but can't access the internet

Hello, I have a macbook pro 10.6 and an iphone 3gs 4.3.3. I used to be able to connect the macbook to the iphone through bluetooth using personal hotspot and access the internet but one day it just stopped working. I have tried turning them off and on, disconnecting bluetooth etc but nothing has worked so far. I have tried connecting my iphone to my ipad2 through bluetooth, it works great. The iphone to the macbook through usb and it works great as well. I have tried connecting another iphone to my macbook through bluetooth and it doesn't work. The bluetooth on my macbook seems to be the problem
Well, to be more precise, the macbook sees the iphones, connects to them through bluetooth, the blue bar appears on the iphones screens but the computer wont access the internet.
Any idea?

I visited my brother-in-law yesterday and attempted to connect with his secure network. By sheer luck, he is using the exact same model LinkSys router. My iPhone connected first time--so the iPhone was eliminated as a source of the problem.
I didn't do a lot of troubleshooting at his house, but I did notice that his network was set for both dynamic DHCP and dynamic DNS. I know that either or both of Windstream (my ISP) and my broadband modem requires a pair of static DNS addresses.
Sure enough, delving real deep into Windstream's support site, I discovered a LinkSys router DNS help page, specifying how to set static DNS addresses in LinkSys routers. I then accessed my router, enterd the known static addresses, saved the router settings, then rebooted the iPhone and connected to the network.
