Iphone configuration utility-- possible to restrict which EAS options are available?

Hi all-- I'd like to be able to use the iPhone Config Utility (am on 3.4 currently) to create a profile that restricts the user to accessing only some sections of an Exchange account, like being able to see/use the account's Contacts but not the Mail/Calendars/Reminders, etc.  Anyone know if this is possible?  I currently do not see any way to do this.
If not, any suggestions on how to enable EAS access to just the Contacts in an Exchange account?  I can use CalDAV for Calendar info but CardDAV for access to Exchange Contacts is not supported... (reason for restricting this is I am trying to enable a user to have access to her boss' Calendar & Contacts but not Email...)
Many thx in advance for any insight,
Charlie

Ipcu .ipa installs were opened up for folks building internal business tools, hobbyists go want to put their code on their friends devices.... Etc...code that doesn't belong on the AppStore because a developer may not have wanted the code to be for public use. Of course when the kids found out you could do it they would do it too...which isn't good especially if paid apps are getting passed. Then they designed the app panick, which is what you saw when you tried to install .ipas without the proper execution authentication to stay resident on the springboard.
It's woould behoove you to take interest in Apple Configurator.
It brings the best of Xcode, ipcu And iTunes in one UI, basically you own little MDM tool. You can set it up to update firmware, sequentially name, install from backup, push .mobilcobfig (although you still need the local authority on the device to accept..standard security protocol and a good idea anyway, volume install apps after you have imported a key, deploy restrictions, but the best thing is using it with mountain lion server and pushing notifications, updates and policy or provisioning OTA just like the 'MDM companies' charge thousands of people millions of dollars every year.
Use this opportunity to deploy excellence to your customer. Give them a good user experience, address their issues, document the challenges they had and the solutions you provided them, and put your ios Deployment book somewhere people can read it, and when you get that job offer from some other company who wants organic MDM instead of getting ripped off by those other guys...your replacement will be able to read a little and pick up where you left off.

  • 802.1x WEP & iPhone Configuration Utility

    Hi All!!
I have just arrived back from our Easter vacation to find the school I work for has changed wireless from WPA-PSK to 802.1x WEP. It didn't take long for me to change my MacBook Pro over to the new settings, but we (our IT Guys and myself) are having great difficulties with the iPhone Configuration Utility and the resulting Profile file. A continuous error message of "Unable to join the network "School_Name"".
We have been using the same configurations for the iPhone in the Configuration Utility as we did for the MacBook Pro, but I keep having the feeling that we are missing something. I am a complete novice when it comes to this side of computing, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here are the preferences we have been using:
*_Network Prefs_* (Taken from MacBook Pro)
    Network Name: School's SSID
    Security: 802.1x WEP
    User Name: Domain Login Name
    Password: Domain Password
*_802.1x Prefs_* (Taken from MacBook Pro)
    User Name: Domain Login Name
    Password: Domain Password
    Wireless Network: School's SSID
    Authentication: TLS
    TLS Certificate: VALID
    *_iPhone Configuration Utility_*
We are little stuck as what to use for the Identifier under the General Tab in the iPhone Configuration Utility.
We have set the Security Type to WEP Enterprise with the EAP Type as TLS.
Under the Credentials Tab, we have generated a "School" certificate and a "User" certificate to be uploaded. These are the same type of certificates I have installed in my KeyChain on the MAcBook Pro.
The subsequent Profile which is generated is uploaded to the iPhone via email and is installed successfully. The profile shows that it is verified. But, no connection is made. The iPhone is not even showing up on the AIS Server log.
I hope that I have supplied enough information. If not, please ask for more.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rodger

    Update your iPhone Configuration Utility.
There is a new option under "Security Type" Called "WEP Enterprise" This is 802.1X WEP.

  • IPhone Configuration utility locked my phone now passcode doesn't work

Googled the heck out of this but haven't seen any posts even close to this problem.
I was testing the iPhone Configuration Utility, prior to deploying configurations to enterprise users. I modified the passcode settings to what i thought would be basic requirements.
I also created payloads for Restrictions, and Exchange ActiveSync, but haven't included in the post, since I am fairly certain they shouldn't have any impact to the issue.
Once I saved the profile, i deployed to my phone via email, and installed it on my device. It then locked, and will not accept the passcode that I was using before installing the "test" profile.
The only other screen that I made any change to, that refers to any sort of password/code, was in the General area:
I set a security password to control when the profile can be removed, but it is a password more than the simple four-digit that the phone appears to be looking for.
I can try 2 more times before the phone wipes, which isnt the end of the world thanks to iCloud, but I sure would like to know what happened....
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Kevin

Thanks Bonesaw, I did connect the phone to the host running ICPU, but it was still looking for some unknown passcode. I ended up putting the phone in DFU mode as suggested by Kilt, and restored the phone. This is the first I've used the iPCU, but I would have been willing to bet the authentication password for the profile wouldnt affect the device passcode. I must have done something else wrong, so I will try it again and see what happens. Thanks for responding!

  • Issue with iPhone configuration utility

I installed the iPhone configuration utility, create a camera restriction profile and loaded to the iPhone. Later on I restored my pc. This process deleted all my program files including the utility. I reinstalled the utility but now I cannot delete the profile. I know it is my fault because I lost the profile information but what can i do now? I tried an iPhone restore using iTunes but it restored all the settings including the profile. Looks like all I have left to do is erase all data and treat it as a brand new iPhone. Is this my only option?

the configuration utility doesn't allow you to select the iPCU cert which is kind of a self signed by the software. you could only select the cert that you imported.
upgraded to ipcu ver 2.2 today and it seems to fix the problem. will monitor it for several days and report back.

  • Multiple from e-mailaddresses /  one account / iphone configuration utility

I trie to configure my e-mail account on my iphone. This works fine, when there is one e-mailaddress per account. But when I want to configure it to have multiple from-e-mailaddresses aka aliases I can choose to sent my mail from, there I stuck.
What I tried till now but without any success is
    use the "name1 <[email protected]>, name2 <[email protected]>" syntax
leaf it blank and do it manually when the profile is installed, what works, but still just for one e-mailaddress
    who could help?

    thx for your answer
at the provider end every thing is configured the way it should
you know the way to configure other e-mail-addresses in iOS manually:      Preferences > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > yourMailAccount > yourMailAccount > E-Mail yourEMailAddress
There you can put in your aliases, which enables you to select, from which address you send your e-mail from
the same thing you can do in Apple Mail, with the "name1 [email protected], name2 [email protected]" syntax entered in the Email Address field in Account Information in the preferences
But what to do, if you want to configure your iPhone with the iphone configuration utility?
if you leaf the from-address blank, you can enter just one address, the above mentioned syntax, that works for Apple Mail, doesn't
And the question for the super hero out there: How to do this in addition with certificates?

  • Issue with iphone configuration utility: eap-tls certificate selection

    hello,
I am a new Apple user so if there's anything obvious, please bear with me. I also tried to search in the forum but didn't find any solution.
    here's my issue:
I use iphone configuration utility v2.1 for windows. I added 2 certificates(one user cert and one CA cert) under 'credentials'. then i configured one wifi network (eap-tls using the certificate i justed added). then i synced with my phone. everything worked fine so far. however, when I tried to connect to wifi, i got error and found out that iphone was using a certificate issued by IPCU CA instead of the certificate i uploaded.
this behavior could be corrected by manually change the certificate from wireless setting. however, this has to be done every time I try to connect to wireless network which is quite frustrated. a workaround is to email me the certificate and install it from iphone. but i can't install the CA certificate via this way.
i am wondering if anyone has similar issue and how to fix this.
    thanks,
    -ns

  • Cannot install configuration profiles using iphone configuration utility, why?

I have several working configuration profiles, which I can distribute both via email and a website.
I'd like to install the profiles through the iPhone Configuration Utility, but I am not able to do so. The devices show up just fine in the list. When I choose the Configuration Profile tab and clicking the install-button on a profile (which will install fine via Email or website) in the list, nothing happens. Regardless of the device beeing out of the box, or activated via iTunes. What am I missing?
I have tried this on several iPad and iPad 2 devices with the latest (4.3.3) firmware installed.

    Hi,
I have the same problem. After creating profile with only General tab being set up it is failing to install on my iPad.
    Profile installation failed
The profile could not be added to device
    Any suggestions?
I even erase all content and setting but that didn't help either.
The only alarming thing is that in my Certificate section I have red message:
"This certificate was signed by and untrusted issuer"
    Can that effect installation?
If that is the case how to fixed it?
P.S. iPad was purchased from Apple Store.
    Regards,

  • Apple Configurator vs. iPhone Configuration Utility

    Hi,
I've been using iPhone Configuration Utility to create and upload profiles for an iPhone 4S.  It hasn't been updated to support iOS 6, though the Windows equivalent has.  I'm assuming that the reason for this is that Apple Configurator now assumes all the same functions of iPhone Configuration Utility.  Can someone then confirm for me that, as far as creating profiles and uploading them to attached devices goes, Apple Configurator is just the same as iPhone Configuration Utility, only with support for the new features in iOS 6?

    Hi Todd,
sorry for not responding sooner.  I don't suppose you'd fancy walking me through the process of adding a new profile using Configurator?  Let's assume just one iPhone 4S with no profiles currently installed, with the aim being: to install a profile (previously prepared in Configurator) adding a new calendar syncing service; and to make no other changes whatsoever.
Also, would you be able to sum up the ramifications of using Supervised mode?  There are some Restrictions in Profiles that seem to only apply when supervision is turned on, but it seems Supervision does more than simply make them available.
    Thanking you in advance.

  • IPhone configuration utility for IOS 4

How can we use the new restrictions and features in IOS 4 to create iPhone XML profile ? Does iPhone configuration utility 2.2 can include new restrictions or is there a way do it by manually configuring the Apple.xml file?

I wonder about the same! Where is the Configuration Utility supporting all the promised new features like the Mobile Device Manamgent and Wireless App Distribution? And why is nobody else asking for these essential features for a real deep enterprise integration and lifecycle management?!?

  • Iphone configuration utility for Windows XP doesn't work.

Getting message when I try to launch Iphone Configuration utility on WIndows XP Sp3 machine - IPCU.exe Procedure entry point not found.
The procedure entry point sqllite23_clear_bindings could not be located in the dll library sqlite3.dll.
Say ok to that and get also a message that Iphone configuration utility failed to locate Apple Mobile device support . Please reinstall, you can download Iphone configuration utility from http://blah blah blah.
I already tried 3.4 and that didn't work. Back rev'd to 3.3 and same error. Running Itunes 10.5 and IOS 5.0 on phone. Any ideas?
Getting ready to deploy about 25 of these and using MS Exchange 2007 as email and active sync. I was hoping to use the utility to help roll out security settings and such.

we noticed the exact same thing. We used IPCU 3.4 and the new feature of setting WiFi proxy which we are very interested in. From Windows, after installing the profile, there was no proxy info on the device UI. From the Mac, the proxy info is there and can be seen from the device UI but it does not work. These proxy settings, even though we can see them through the device UI, do not "stick". They have no effect. HTTP traffic still does not go through the proxy.
Using the Mac is fine as long as we can make the proxy settings "stick", otherwise we have to ask our users again to do them manually. Has anybody found a workaround or something?

  • IPhone Configuration Utility: Email with alias(es)

    Hello everybody!
I have to add an email account to two iPhones and two iPads. The account includes many email aliases.
In the iPhone settings there is the possibility to add aliases to an account, but it is long-winded by adding so many aliases.
On my Mac I can add aliases by annexing the aliases after the main address in the address field in the preferences. (e.g. "[email protected], [email protected], [email protected])
So I tried to create a configuration Profile with all account informations in the iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU). This app is very comfortable for that tasks, but it seems there is no easy way to add an account with aliases! I didn't found a field for aliases in the email tab and the line of action like Mac's mail.app (main address and alias addresses in one text field separated by comma) doesn't work In addition I tried to write all addresses in the email address field separated by semicolon: failed
Note: If I added an Email account to my iDevice via iPCU I'm not able to adjust the email address field in the iOS ettings, so I can't add aliases. If I leave the Email address field in the iPCU in blank, my iDevice request me to enter the address, but  I can't add aliases, too (However adding aliases on iDevice that isn't my intention, but maybe it is an good hint for you)
    Thanks for you support!

I have exactly the same problem,  I bought temple run oz but it says not compatiable with my ipad 1G,  I used iphone configuration utility to install it and it works fine,  but now I cannot go back to itunes to sync,  it says sync completes but never really sync anything
    Anyway to help?

  • I need instructions on creating a configuration profile to turn off the Deleting Apps button on an iPad using the iPhone Configuration Utility, please.

I need instructions on creating a configuration profile to turn off the Deleting Apps button on an iPad using the iPhone Configuration Utility, please.

The deleting apps restriction is new in iOS 6 but is available only on supervised devices. You can supervise devices and create and install a configuration profile containing this restriction using Apple Configurator.

  • Iphone configuration utility database backup

    Hello,
We are using at work the iPhone configuration utility to provide configuration to the enterprise iPhone.
Currently, we need to move the utility to another computer.
How do we export the whole database ? I know I can export config one by one, but we need to export the whole content
(hundreds of them, so no way to go on exporting one by one)
    regards

I'm not really seeing how to export it.  Exporting the .mobileconfig file and then opening it in the iCU on another PC fails if the file is signed, all you can do is remove the signature which doesn't achieve the goal.  I won't be able to sign updates to the profile with the same signature so I won't be able to update the profile.
When I run Window > Certificates, I don't see a cert that I can export and then import to an instance of iCU installed on another machine.
Mind elaborating on "Just export it"?

  • Deploy Iphone configuration utility profiles

    Hi,
i am IT expert on large organization, i would like to deploy wireless and icloud profiles on ~3000 IOS devices.
i would like to deploy it encrypted (since the regular export is cleartext).
i read about SCEP , but i didn't find any step by step or similar article on how to do it.
is there anyone  did it ? or know how to run it?
and please - i can't spend $$$ on MDM solution such as Good , Zenprise or similar.
    thanks in advanced
    Buris.

I had the same problem as you. I've followed mgm612's suggestion and downloaded all versions of IPCU that I could find:
    3.1 : http://www.iphoneworld.ca/news/2010/11/29/download-iphone-configuration-utility- ipcu-3-1-mac-windows/
    3.2 : http://download.cnet.com/iPhone-Configuration-Utility-for-Windows/3640-20432_4-1 1666367.html
    3.3 : http://iphone-configuration-utility.soft32.com/
    3.4 : http://download.cnet.com/iPhone-Configuration-Utility-for-Windows/3000-20432_4-1 0969175.html
then uninstalled IPCU 3.5 and started to test with 3.1 and went up one version at a time until I reached version 3.4 which allowed me to uninstall the configuration profile from my device...
Don't know about you but I find that Apple pretty much dropped the ball with this and many other issues *such as recurrent Outlook event...) . Being unable to remove a configuration profile from your device because you've updated your software is absolutely ridiculous!
    Good luck to others!
