IPhone connectivity to Car Stereo -- POSSIBLE SOLUTION

I stumbled across a possible solution to the iPhone not working with some car stereos. Granted, I have a cheap name brand stereo ,but it has the full ipod interface built-in. It's a Valor NVG-710W ($999 from frys).
My iPhone worked in my truck from day one, but after a week, i made some playlist changes, and it quit working. After a trip to the Apple Store, to no avail, I was determined to figure out what happened. Making sure it wasn't the radio itself, I tested my wife's iphone, and it worked. I started tweaking the settings and playlists.
What I found is this: the car stereo doesn't comprehend "Smart Playlists." Everytime I sync'd a Smart Playlist to the iPhone, the stereo would not connect to iPhone, but if I took the Smart playlist's off, it would connect immediately and start playing thru the stereo.
Hope this tidbit helps someone out.

That happens to me occasionally. Have you tried power cycling the iphone? that seems to fix it for me when it happens.

  • Iphone and my car stereo

I just bought an iphone 3G and want to know if I can connect my iphone to my car stereo system (08 Nissan Altima Coupe w/factory Bose sound system) so I can listen to my downloaded music. I believe my car is equipped for this but need to know what adaptor to buy. Any one with input would appreciated!

I don't know if the you haver the same radio as my 08 Maxima but if you go to your local Nissan dealer you can get the iPod interface installed. Interface System for iPod® is not available for HYBRID models or models with factory navigation system. Or your radio should have the AUX jack that is in between the "Clock" and the "Scan" button and should say "AUX IN" if you have that then all you need is a 3.5MM wire (3.5mm to 3.5mm cable) example

  • Connection to Car Stereo

I have an ipod connection into my car stereo in my Infiniti.  I was hoping to replace my ipod with my Blackberry Storm and be able to play it through my stereo system.  Is there a cable that will fit my car connection and the Storm?

First, I don't know what type of connection your car stereo has, but as for me, I am using a simple male 3.5mm to RCA jack cable (See link below) for my car and it works wonderfully.

  • IPhone 5 bluetooth connection to car stereo

Just upgraded from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5. My phone connects with Bluetooth fine with my Pioneer stereo in my car, but the song names and artists don't display on my car stereo and the remote for my car stereo now won't advance songs. Volume and source work fine on the remote. All this worked with my iPhone 4. Is there some sort of a bluetooth accessiblity issue that I can fix on my phone?

Same problem here - I got it to connect once but it barely worked so I disconnected and reattempted connection and fail after fail.

  • Connecting iphone 4S to car stereo problems

I have a new iPhone 4S and when I connect it to my car stereo via a Monster cable I can hear static.  My wife's older iPhone does not have this issue.  Her phone plays, just as my old iPhone 3, perfect music.  I have checked my connections with the new phone, but I still get background static.  Do I need to use a different cable with the new iPhone?

Just read all of the history on the issue.  I have already posted feedback to Apple to document the issue. Thanks. I will also try to use a different cable and see if that works.

  • IOS6 bluetooth connection with car stereo

With my iPhone 4S running iOS5, my after-market car stereo bluetooth was able to read my song name, artist name, ect. Now that I upgraded to iOS6 my Kenwood receiver cannot read this data while connected via bluetooth. Since the data can't be read, the steering wheel control to search/skip a song forward or back also no longer works. I tested the car stereo last night with an iOS5 phone and it worked correctly, so I know the problem is related to the bluetooth iOS6.

  • Issues with USB connection to car stereo

I just got an iPhone a few weeks ago, and generally it's great, but I have frequent issues when connecting it to my new Pioneer DEH-P3100UB car stereo. I think it may be kind of new in that it doesn't have a "special cable" for connecting to the iPhone, it just uses the typical USB sync cable.
When I see the problem, the stereo reports error 19, which the manual calls a communication failure, and suggests turning the car off and back on, unplugging and replugging the USB device, or switching to a different audio source and then back to USB.
Generally, none of these suggestions work, but power cycling my iPhone always does. This doesn't seem like it should be necessary. Has anyone else had problems like this? Is this a problem with the iPhone software that might be addressed in a future software update?
    Thanks!

    Hey jrbapple,
Keeping your iPhone updated is a good idea. If you iPhone isn't already updated to iPhone software 2.2.1, try updating it now.

Does the car stereo have the "Works With iPhone" logo?

  • Ipod classic won't connect to car stereo

I have a three year old iPod classic - and it no longer will connect to my car stereo - i drive a 2006 volvo xc-70. I plug it in - and it doesn't register or recognize that the iPod is even connected. the ipod stays charged, so i presume that the cable is still connected properly to the stereo - and it works when connected to other devices. is there new firmware or updates that are not compatible?

Ok, I'm not familiar with the model of head unit you refer to. Maybe it's simply not possible to connect this way.
Is it at all possible to contact the manufacturer and get there advice.
As I said, I've never come across a car head unit that connects an iPod via a usb connection. My Kenwood unit has a usb connection and will not recognize an iPod connected in this manner (using the iPod cable). The Kenwood needs the specific iPod multi pin connector.
Also, simply connecting via usb will probably not supply a charge to the iPod from the head unit.

PLEASE, EVERYONE, IF YOU HAVE ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM WITH YOUR ITOUCH USB MP3 COMPATIBLE CAR STEREO CONTROL FUNCTION, NOT CONNECTING:
Please take the time to send feedback. http://www.apple.com/support/feedback
Apple says that "feedback" is the channel of choice and the more they here from us, the more apt they will recognize and address the issue. feel free to plagiarize any of this document and post to get the word out.
    here is what we know...
I have the ipod touch 2nd gen, I updated the OS to 3.1.2. to use the bluetooth capability with headset. It will not work on my 2009 HHR SS usb port, but an ipod classic, and ipod nano do. (also went to chevy dealer and tested on 2010 equinox on show room floor) the power to ipod works but the stereo reports device connection failed.
I have discussed with apple at length (case number: 150238102) and read through the discussion posts regarding this issue. _*I have advised apple that the software 3.1.2 has a bug in the usb communication.*_ If it is USB 2 compatible stereo, then the software should be built to work with the stereo.
Not so much the responsibility of that of the MANY stereo manufacture(s) (who have complied to the USB 2 standards and Ipod control engineering specs.)

  • Ios 4 3gs Now will not play through my usb/ipod connection on car stereo

With new ios4 I cannot get my 3gs to play through my car stereo's ipod connection (usb)anymore. os3.1 or whatever the old os was worked fine. The car stereo controlled the tracks, artists, etc.. Now I plug the phone in and get a message saying it is not optimized to work with the stereo and may be subject to noise and interference, then the only option to click is "dismiss" and will not work. Any ideas? I tried the re sync and still will not work.

The method used to recognize the USB device has a clever bit of code in the firmware to improve the connect time once the initial handshake with the device has been established. So after the update to iOS4, the host device (Car Stereo) still thinks that it is connecting to the un-updated client device (iPhone prior to updating to iOS4) The updated client device (Your iPhone with iOS4), must fool the host device (Your car stereo), into believing that it is an entirely new device. This is done by connecting your iPhone to the stereo head USB port with the iPhone switched off completely. This is achieved by holding down the top power button on the iPhone until the red slide bar comes up and prompts you to shut the iPhone down. Do this and then with the car stereo switched on, plug the iPhone into the USB socket and wait till the iPhone starts of it's own accord. If it does not start, press the top power button on the phone until it starts. This will force the host device (Your car stereo) and the client device (Your iPhone) to re-negotiate the handshake between the devices and get you back to where you will once again be happy.
Now we can all stop beating up both the Car Stereo manufacturers and Apple and focus on being civil gentle folk that enjoy discussions about how clever we all are to be able to use amazing technology to get ourselves over-stressed and irritable.

  • How do I play my iphone through my car stereo

I want to play my Iphone 4S through my car Vauxhall Corsa stereo. There's no socket on the car stereo. Do I need to buy some hardware?

The aux input works great if you don't need to control the iPod from the radio, I connect it this way routinely and have a separate charger when needed. The OP, however does not have an aux port.
Using earbuds or headphones is illegal in most states and I know a few that have been ticketed for impaired/reckless driving. Get into an accident wearing them and you could open yourself up to lawsuits because its considered impaired hearing. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. You can't fight the impaired hearing thing, don't even think about it. Claim to be senile and they'll pull your license right there and you will be walking for awhile.
    Drive safe.

  • Playing my iPhone through the car stereo

I am looking for a new car stereo and the biggest feature I want is to be able to play music off of my iPhone on it. Almost every model I've looked at says it plays wma/mp3/aac. Most of my music files are mp3s, but the last few CDs I ripped in .m4a (Apple loseless). After researching it, I kind of have the impression that m4as are converted to aac, and will be played, but cannot for the life of me find a place that definitively says this. Can anyone help me out?

Not sure if this info is necessary, but some players connect to the iPhone through the headphone jack, some through USB, and most can do either.

  • After iOS5 update, iPod no longer connects to car stereo

    Hi,
my husband and I both have an iPod touch 4th generation.
We also have a Dodge Caravan with a car stereo, that lets up hook up the iPods and control them over the display. The cable does not charge the iPods, but we knew that.
I have updatedt my iPod a while ago and never encountered any problems with the car stereo.
My husband updated his iPod to iOS5 today, and the car stereo does not connect via the cable. On the iPods display it just says, an error has ocurred.
Would that be a hardware issue? The iPod is a month or two past warranty. We already tried restarting and resetting the iPod (not to factory settings).
Is there maybe a way, to return the iPod to iOS4?
    Thanks for any help

Sometimes, when you cannot "see" your ipod, it is because the drive that was assigned to the ipod, when you connected it, is already being used by the other devise. Your ipod is connected, but is "under" the other item, which means that you have to disconnect that item, so that you can "see" it. It will not be one of the drives that are normally associated with the computer like the C drive, or the ones assigned to your disc drives. It would be a drive that was assigned to an external devise, or another USB devise. This may or may not be your problem, but it is worth a shot.
