IPhone connects to WiFi but won't work.

Ever since I got my iPhone 4, it connects to the WiFi but it won't do things using WiFi so I usually end up using 3G. But this only happens at my house. I works perfectly on the bus and at school. Same thing happens to my sister's iPhone 4 and recently we had guests over and I connected one of them to the WiFi and she had the same problem (iPhone 4) My dad has an iPhone 5 and I'm pretty sure it works perfectly for him. Please help. I've tried everything. Forgetting the network, resetting my phone, restoring my phone. Any suggestions please?

Seems to be a problem with your WiFi router.
If your iPhone can not access the internet using WiFi, due to low signal strength, low internet speed, router overload, or perhaps a wrong router setting (child safety lock, firewall?), it automatically accesses the internet using 3G.
You just have to find the error...
Good luck ;-)

iPhone connects to wifi but MacBook doesn't pick up the signal

Okay, this morning it happened again. I unplugged my iphone, surfed some pages fine. Five minutes later I woke it up again, tried to go to the app store. Nothing.
Tried to surf some newspaper sites. Nothing. So I used an IP address rather than the www.blablabla.com address and it works.
Confirmed. Some sort of cirumstances let the DNS service crash. Only IP addresses work. After a reboot (that's the only chance) it works again.
Network reset, restore iOS, all other typical help steps, never cured it.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I get in now with the following procedures taken:
    1. Reset network as suggested in Apple app.
    2. In the wifi connection, instead click in the user name as shown in the screen, I click Others and re-type the user name as appeared before. In the security, instead of none, I click WEP. It will then prompt you to put in password. I then put in password as I know for that user name again.
    Then, it joined the wifi..
Hope this can help someone who get this problem.

  • My ipod touch says it is connected to wifi, but won't run anything that uses it like safari or itunes, and I don't know how to fix it

Can anyone help me? my  ipod touch says it is connected to wifi, but it won't run anything that uses wifi like safari or itunes, and I don't know how to fix it

You didn't indicate if it ever worked.  If it NEVER did, the problem could be caused by a firewall in the router.  For reasons that I do not understand, that will affect IOS (iPod/iPad) communication but will not affect computers or other devices.
You will need administrative access to the router.  If a firewall is present, turn it off and test the iPod again.  If it works, turn the firewall back on but weaken it a notch and test the iPod again.  Repeat as required.

  • One wifi spot my iPhone connects to wifi but not internet. All other devices connect to internet.

My iPhone connects to wifi just fine. When it does it connects to the internet just fine except in one location. My house. My MacBook Pro, my wife's iPhone and her iPad get on the internet there just fine. My Iphone's IP address it begins with a 10. At my house it occasionally will connect to the internet through wifi but I leave wifi off there because it is so intermitent.
    Any suggestions?
I have not seen this problem addressed.

  • My iphone connect to wifi, but it wont use it. How do i fix it?

My IPhone 4 connects to wifi, but it does not use it, it refers back to 3G.

Probably because there is no internet connection on the Wifi, because it will default to 3G if it can't get a connection.

  • My MacBook Pro will connect to WiFi but will not work in one location but will at others. I have the same issue with my IPhone 4S at the same location.

My MacBook Pro will connect to Wifi at one location (this is a secure location) but will not allow access to the internet.  I will put in the password but will not display page.  Other wifi capable devises do not have this issue but my Mac and my Iphone 4S will not work.  I have tried restarting the router.  All other wifi locations I have been to have not had this issue.  Any suggestions? I am realtively new to Apple products (less than a year) so any advise is greatly appreciated.

The other devices that are working got on with the same password.  It says it is connected.  Just nothing works on the internet.

  • Ipad tries to connect to wifi but won't .....

My husband was watching Netflix on our ipad and it suddenly a message came up "you have no internet connection". We have a router in our home (but no wireless plan) so we can only use our iapd where the is wifi. We tried resetting the router but husbands laptop works fine with wifi. When the ipad tries to connect and I watch the screen and it either will not recognize the router password or next to the WiFi will say "TRENDnet"(our router), then "Not Connected", "TRENDnet", "Not Connected", like it tries to connect and does for a second and then doesn't.  I suspect it is not the router because husband's laptop works fine.  Any help appreciated. Ipad is a version 1, regifted from Mom when she bought her new Mini. Thank You!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IMac connects to wifi, but won't open all websites

I can get email, but only loads certain websites.  Facebook and Google work, but not Amazon (and many more).  I get an error message in Safari "Safari can't open the page because the server stopped responding".  The iMac connected perfectly before, the only thing that has changed is that we were having people use our wifi (of which data is limited since we live in a rural area).  So, we added the security feature "Wireless Mac Authentication" to our router.  We have added the addresses of all of our devices and they all are working fine except for the iMac.  I have tried changing the DNS to the same that is on my Macbook pro, but it doesn't help.  Also, had a WEP for the router, but changed it to a WPA because I thought maybe that was the problem, but it did not help either.  Thanks for any help!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Iphone connect to wifi but DNS doesn't work

I have just changed my mobile phone from Android(Nexus S) to iPhone 4S. The user experiences of iphone 4S is great as expected. But, but recently I have met the "popular" problem of iPhone 4S. This happens to my new iphone 4S frequently and some time it happens to my iPad 2 as well.
The problem is that, sometime, even you see the iphone has been connected to the WiFi, you can't visit any website unless you type the IP address in the browser. Even you disconnect from the router and use 3G, you still have the problem. The only work around is to restart your iphone.
First I think it is due to the DNS service down from the router. But my other devices and computer have no problem. And  I also changed the DNS server address in the iphone and the problem still exists. Even I use VPN, iphone seems not being able to parse the URL to the ip address.
So, my conclusion is that, the DNS process of my iphone crashes. Maybe due to the compatibility of the router. But I think it is more or less the bug of the iphone.
And also, some reports from the internet shows that some user have the problem by installing certain app from app  store. So I think maybe it is due to some APIs related with network cause the process crash. It is also may be the scenario of mine because I just started to install a lot of applications on my iphone.
By the way, my iphone is not jail break. So I hope Apple could fix this problem officially as soon as possible. Will them?

Okay, this morning it happened again. I unplugged my iphone, surfed some pages fine. Five minutes later I woke it up again, tried to go to the app store. Nothing.
Tried to surf some newspaper sites. Nothing. So I used an IP address rather than the www.blablabla.com address and it works.
Confirmed. Some sort of cirumstances let the DNS service crash. Only IP addresses work. After a reboot (that's the only chance) it works again.
