IPhone content deleting itself & sync issues

Hi everyone, new here, so hopefully I'll be able to get in everything that needs to be said to help solve the issue.
I've got a 64GB iPhone 4S that is completely up-to-date software-wise and has a good 30GB free. All content is added manually from iTunes to the iPhone (the appropriate box is ticked) and I have ticked the box in Preferences to ensure all devices don't sync upon being plugged in.
Now, here's the problem: when adding music to the phone, ripped from CD's or downloaded elsewhere in MP3 or M4A, the music will transfer over to the phone perfectly. However, the next time the phone is plugged in and I attempt to add new content, iTunes tells me that it is updating files and preparing to update, but it just hangs here. The songs are listed as on the phone, but are greyed out. So, when I unplug and refer back to the Music app on the phone, the songs just skip from one to the other, before eventually telling me that there is no content there whatsoever, despite iTunes telling me otherwise.
This is also the case with any video content, all videos are converted in the right format, but I can never get them to transfer over. iTunes tells me it is updating files and preparing to update, but once again iTunes just hangs and the files are there in iTunes but they're greyed out. I can't access or play them, only delete them within iTunes itself.
Am I doing something majorly wrong? This occurs every single time and a hard reset doesn't seem to have solved the issue.
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, I can never seem to find a definitive answer or the situation is different from my own.
Cheers!

I have the same problem and have noticed that if I just put in an appointment name and time it seems to sync from iPhone 3g to Exchange calendar, however, if I type in notes, it does not sync. Hope a solution or work around shows up soon.

  • IPhone, Google & iCloud contact syncing issues

    Hi everyone,
I'm having some issues getting my contacts synced correctly between my iPhone and Google account. I have searched a few forums looking for an answer for this particular problem and haven't found a solution yet so my apologies if I'm just missing something here.
I have always synced my contacts via my Gmail account. In my Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars section, I have iCloud set up and then Gmail set up through Exchange for Contacts ONLY. If I added a contact on my iPhone, it would always sync directly to my Gmail Contact Manager. I only noticed that there is an issue all of a sudden because I was given an iPad mini as a gift recently and noticed that not all of my contacts synced. I checked my Gmail Contact Manager this seems to be because any of the contacts I have added on my iPhone since probably last December are NOT listed. If I log into iCloud and check my contacts there, the only contact listed is me as I have always only had contacts listed which are from my Google account.
If I go into my Contacts app and hit Groups at the top left, all I see is Gmail/Exchange, Contacts (checked), Gmail/Exchange Global Address List (unchecked - if I try to click this no contacts appear at all), iCloud, All iCloud (checked). If I go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and scroll down to the Contacts section, the Default Account is listed as Gmail/Exchange. I have tried clicking "Import SIM Contacts" to no avail, changing the Default Account and clicking and unclicking Groups.
Where are the contacts I have added since December(ish) being stored? If they're not in my Google contacts nor in iCloud? How can I make them sync to my Google account again? Is there a way to "push"(?) everything to Google that I'm missing?
    Thank you all in advance!

Best way is to use a 3rd party app managing groups. Easy Group is a free one I have developped.
Launch it, all your groups will automatically appear
    Tap on "Edit"
Tap on red cross next to the groups you want to delete

  • IPhone Contacts Deleted when Syncing

Help!! My iPhone contacts were deleted when syncing. And only kept a few from my Address Book. Is there a way I can restore them? Please Help! Thanks.

Me too. Although I don't see what MobileMe has to do with it, I don't use it.

  • ITunes iPhone and Windows Vista - Syncing Issue

I was trying to upload 2 new albums I have and it seems it re-synced my whole music library to my iphone.
Is there a video or something I can watch that shows how to use iTunes correctly, and to sync new songs without having to re-sync the whole entire library to my iPhone.
    Thanks.
Black MacBook, 2.0GHz Core Duo, 1GB Ram, 80GB, Superdrive   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   8GB iPhone

There really isnt much to syncing music. I have read several posts of folks complaining that making a simple change to one song caused the entire library to resync.
Suggestion - turn off automatic syncing when you plug your iPhone. Then choose Sync only selected items, and then select all your music. Sync. Then make a change to one song and manually sync again. See if only that one song syncs.

  • IPhone 5S/iTunes (Win7) sync issue: this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPhone

I am trying to synch my iPhone 5S and iTunes for the first time since upgrading.  I get the following error message: The iPhone ... could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPhone.  To be clear, all I want to do is take the media on my Windows 7 PC and put on my iPhone.  When I authorize my PC, I receive a message that the PC is authorized (making 2 of 5 authorized computers).
All of the iTunes purchases were purchased under the same Apple ID, I've never had another Apple ID.  Some of the PC media is Amazon mp3 purchases, but this has never been a problem in the past.  I have the latest iTunes installed.
I tried to fix the problem doing the following:
    1.  Authorizing my computer, retrying to sync.
    2.  Logging into iTunes on my PC, then authorizing the PC, then syncing.
    3.  Not an Administrator account issue (my login is the Admin account)
    4.  I turned off user account controls in Win7
    5.  I removed the SC Info folder in iTunes
Very frustrating, I've been working on this issue for the past several days.  After purchasing a 5S, with a high end PC/Win7, and the latest version of iTunes, I shouldn't have to make such an effort to access my purchased content.  Please help.

I found the solution in another post.  By deleting all my apps, I was able to sync the phone.  I hope I don't have to delete all my apps every time I want to sync my phone, but at least now I am able to sync my phone.

  • Iphone 4 and itunes syncing issues

Not sure if this is an itunes issue or iphone4 + itunes issue
So got the new iphone4 and was able to activate, restore backup and sync additional song and videos. After the second or third sync, Itunes started to crash my windows xp when syncing started. I tried syncing with ipod and iphone 3g to see if it was an itunes issue, but they sync fine. Anyone experiencing this or have any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Same happening with me, though I can't find the source of what's causing mine to crash. I have not yet synced any music to my iPhone4 so it can't be that. I've deleted my Winnie-the-Pooh book (which i had read elsewhere to be the source) and any free apps that I thought might be the cause too but still, itunes crashes when it starts "backing up iphone".
    Can anyone help??
Have just turned my iPhone off and back on again, and deleted an app that I remembered didn't work 100% and now iTunes doesn't crash!

  • Why does my music from my iPhone 5 delete itself?

I have music on my iPhone (probably like ever other user out there) and when I play music, songs will be skipped, sometimes even three or four at a time, and they will magically be deleted from my phone. This has been happening all day today, ever since this recent iTunes update. I'm not sure if it is due to the iTunes update or if the music on my phone is faulty or what. I can play the music from my computer and it works just fine. I'm really getting tired of syncing my phone ever other hour because of this. I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of it unless this issue becomes resolved soon......

Nope. You can swipe to delete tracks on your iPhone and they won't be deleted from iTunes.
You can also just remove them from the playlist that you've selected in iTunes and sync the iPhone again.
Take a look at this Apple doc -> iOS: Syncing with iTunes

  • IPhone, iCal and Entourage sync issue

When syncing iPhone, my iCal is updated correctly, however the updates do not make it into Entourage. But when changes are made in Entourage, they make back it into iCal and iPhone
In iCal, the iPhone updates go into a calendar named "Calendar", the Entourage updates go into a calendar named "Entourage". These two calendars appear to be created as part of the sync process.
It appears when syncing, Entourage is only pulling up the "Entourage" calendar and ignoring the "Calendar" calendar, which contains my iPhone data. iPhone appears to pull in both calendar's data.
I've used the merge data selection when asked about syncing.
Any thoughts on how can I correct either Entourage or iCal to upload all calendars into Entourage?
    Thanks in advance.

I had just the same issue - sometime after installing iPhone OS 3.0 my Entourage Calendar in iCal stopped syncing, though the calendar in Entourage remained intact and continued to sync with the Exchange server. After going through all of the "sync services reset" protocols I could find, I finally got it to work by clearing the Entourage Calendar Cache. Before doing this, turn off "sync services" in Entourage preferences and make sure your Exchange calendar is synced with the exchange server because this will erase your local version of the Exchange calendar. Next, "control-click" on the calendar folder icon (this is the calendar icon with a green circle with a white check mark that appears when you expand the arrow to the left of your server account name at the top of the left column of a calendar window - above "Folders on My Computer"), select "Folder Properties" then "Empty" cache. After you do this, your calendar data will disappear and repopulate from the exchange server. This took a while for me. Once the data reappeared, it became apparent that there were some duplicated recurring events that were cluttering up the calendar even though not previously displayed. I fixed these, then turned "sync services" back on in Entourage preferences. The "Entourage" calendar in iCal repopulated after a few minutes and I was back in business. To clean things up, I also had to delete a couple of extra "Entourage" calendars in the iCal list that had no events. Don't know if this will work for your problem but it fixed mine. Good Luck.

  • IPhone Calendar Appointment time syncing issue

I have noticed lately that appointments I enter into my iCal on my Desktop when synced with my iPhone are showing up an hour later. For example: If I made an appointment from 9AM to 10AM it will (when synced) show up on my iPhone 10AM to 11AM. I am not sure if it has to do with the latest iPhone update (1.1.3) or with Leopard. Has anyone had this issue? Any thoughts on how to resolve it? Thanks.

One thing to check out is on your iphone go to settings > general > date and time.
In date and time, make sure your time zone is set correctly.
If the time zone is set correctly, turn time zone support off.
Then make sure your date and time is set correctly.
Power off the iphone by holding down the power button on the top of the iphone until you see the slide to power off.
Now power the iphone back on.
Connect the iphone to the computer and sync.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhone to Exchange calendar sync issues

OK, I have read through many posts on here, but have yet to find a post that describes my situation. If someone has seen this answered in other places, please let me know.
I currently have the following setup:
iPhone 2.2.1, using OTA sync with Exchange
    Entourage 2008 (not Outlook/Windows)
Exchange server 2007 (at work, I am not the guy who runs it)
My mail and contacts work fine.
CALENDAR issue for me is something I can't quite wrap my head around:
I get syncs fine for calendar when accepted through Entourage - but when they are updated by the original senders I get multiple entries for every event showing up on my phone (the old events aren't removed). In addition, my phone does not sync back to the Exchange server when I accept invitations, nor when I create entries in my calendar.
    Thoughts?

This problem is only something I've had problems with recently. Previously entries in the Calendar would sync OK regardless of where they were created or accepted. So appointments I logged on the road into the phone would work back into Exchange and onto Entourage.
Two things have changed. Our Exchange server was upgraded and how has Active Sync which means I now get push notifications which is great. I've also gone up to the 3.01 software on the iPhone.
Now, it seems I am ONLY getting push from Exchange to the iPhone. Calendar entries from Entourage appear on the phone.
Any calendar entries created on the phone or invites accepted on the phone stay on the phone. They are not synced back to Exchange and onto my Entourage calendar.
As someone who is office based for only a few days a month, effective Calendar sync is vital.
If the problem is with the OS update on the phone then this fix needs to be part of 3.02. If the problem lies with the Active Sync setup then I need some instructions to go back to our Sys Admins with.
    Thanks!

  • Bot App thru iTunes from iPhone, and deleted before sync. How to retrieve?

Is there any way I can use my bill from the store to retrieve my app that I just bought? I
erased it from my iPhone because I had it working, then app. (EyeTV)wouldn't connect, so I thought
I would delete, however I had forgotten to sync my phone to my Mac... Now, of course, the App isn't
in my apps on my Mac. I just got my email receipt last night.

As long as you are using the same iTunes Store account as you used when you originally bought the app, you can download it again for free. You have to click the "Buy" button and you will get a warning about your credit card being charged, but when you continue, you'll get an offer to download it again for free. This explains how that works: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • IPhone and Address Book sync issue

I have an iPhone 3G (bought 7/08). Been a Mac user 13 years. "Mail" email is syncing fine. Address Book and iCal not so much.
When I updgraded to 3.0 a few months ago, most of my iCal events became doubled - meaning each event was repeated. Anyone know why or how to fix it?
And the same with my Address Book. If I choose "All Contacts" from the "Groups" folder, I get double entries. If I choose "All from My Mac" from the "Groups" folder, I get single entries. And neither the new entries from my Mac (MacBook Pro) or the iPhone update on the other A glitch with 3.0? Like I said, "Mail" (my .me account), is fine, iCal is updating through the "cloud", but I get double entries from everything that was already in my Calender before the upgrade. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Since you are syncing contacts over the air with your MobileMe account and syncing contacts direct with the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process is the reason why your contacts are duplicated on your iPhone. Assuming you are syncing contacts with the Address Book on your Mac with your MobileMe online address book, any contact that you entered on your iPhone should be available with your MobileMe online address book.
Check your MobileMe online address book to confirm all contacts are available there.
If so, deselect sync contacts direct with the Address Book on your Mac under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select Apply.
On your iPhone, go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select your MobileMe account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. This will erase all contacts downloaded from your MobileMe online address book, but it won't delete contacts that were transferred direct from the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process.
Wait a minute or two for the online contacts to be deleted.
Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing. You will be provided a merge prompt, which you want to select.
    The duplicates will be eliminated.

  • IPhone/Mac/Mobile Me Sync issue - Contacts / Calendar

I seem to have lost all of my contacts and birthdays after syncing my iphone, mobileme and my mac. The only location which still has contacts is my iphone. Since contacts went missing, all of my birthday settings in my calendar are also gone...Any thoughts on what I need to do to restore my original calendar / contacts settings. This iPhone transition with mobile me has been somewhat complicated!

Prior to activating Mobileme you need to sync your iPhone to your computer to have all your contacts and birthdays on your computer. When you turn on Mobileme, you must sync the data to the cloud (Mobileme) from your computer first. Then when you turn on Mobileme syncing on the iPhone, it will pull your calendars and contacts from the cloud. Make sure you verify that the calendar is in the cloud before syncing the iPhone.
Do you have Mobileme syncing turned on on your iPhone? If not, you're in luck with the contacts. You can turn off Mobileme on the computer, and have the iPhone contacts sync to address book through iTunes. Make sure you have at least 1 contact in address book before syncing.
If Mobileme is on on your iPhone, I don't know a solution. One thing for future reference, once you get things restored, is to use the functionality built into iCal and address book to create backups of their data. That way, in case a problem like this arises again, you can revert to a backup and retrace the necessary syncing to Mobileme steps.

  • Iphone update 2.0 sync issue due to lack of permissions

I found this posting in the ipod section. After countless hours on the phone with appple tech support and a 2 hour visit to the "genius bar" (the "genius" suggested I should go ask the geek squad for help!)this fixed my problem!!! Apparently, there are some tracks in iTunes that prompt this error. Removing and replacing the traks in iTunes repairs the traks. Good Luck!
    Back Up Your Playlist Data
Open iTunes and choose the "Export Library" option from under the iTunes menu. Save this file to the desktop. This file represents all of your playlist data.
    Delete Your Library
Quit iTunes and open up your Music folder. Nvigate to your "iTunes Music" folder. Inside of that is a folder called "iTunes". Located inside of that is your iTunes library, it is comprised of two files:
    iTunes Library
    iTunes Library.xml
Move these files your desktop, they will no longer be read by iTunes.
Add Track Back to Your Library
Relaunch iTunes, all of your tracks and playlists will be missing. Drag your Music folder onto iTunes, iTunes will re-add all of your tracks.
    Import Your Playlist Data
Now that your tracks have returned, import your playlist data back. Choose the "Import" option from under the iTunes menu and choose the file your exported back in the first step. iTunes will load in your playlist data and re-link your tracks to your playlist.
After this final step, I can now synchronize my library to my iPod without issue.

Hi AJ, Well, at least you were able to solve the issue. I don't know either why you weren't able to Install the first time either. With restrictions on the computers, it is hard to tell. Glad that worked for you. Might be something for others to try when they have that problem.
    Thanks for posting your solution.
