IPhone could not update - error 1062

I tried to update to 1.1.4 and also to restore and both times it says it either could not be updated or could not be restored. Both times is says error 1062. I've read about 1064 but what is 1062 and how can I fix it so I can update/restore my phone?

Error -1602 means that the iPhone could not communicate correctly with iTunes. There is a Apple product at one end of the connection, and an Apple product at the other end. These are the only two parts that Apple can control, and even then iTunes is subject to the whims of other programs on your computer (especially antivirus programs). In between there is Windows itself, USB drivers, USB hardware, other USB devices sharing the bus, memory, CPU timing...none of which Apple can control.
If you have carefully followed all of the instructions in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306084, updated your USB drivers, made sure your USB ports are version 2, are not using an external USB hub and have no other USB devices connected then there is something about your computer that does not meet Microsoft and industry standards. This is beyond Apple's control to fix. If you take your phone to an Apple store they will update it for you. You can also try another computer.

iphone could not updated unknown error occurred(11) when restoring the iphone 3g. Please help.

When I search for the error code, everything leads to articles about the device being jailbroken, which would mean Apple doesn't support that device anymore. Can anyone confirm this?

  • The iphone could not restore error occoured (-1)

the iphone could not restore error occoured (-1) in iphone 3gs

This generally means a hardware failure.  You'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

  • IPhone will not update (error code 1) will not restore even in DFU mode (error code 1)

I bought the iPhone 4S from a friend, and I came to wiping it manually from the handset, no problems found however during the initial steps the iPhone was unable to validate on the apple servers (with the carrier stuck on searching). So, I plugged the phone into my trusty laptop installed Itunes fresh and proceeded to restore. The process gets to the later part of the validation and throws up an Error Code 1.
I'm aware (from searches across the internet) that error code 1 is typically found in phones with tampered hardware/software e.g. Jailbreak, unlock etc. My friend is not tech savvy and doesnt have a clue about these things so I'm sure the phone is 'as is'.
So i proceeded to troubleshoot the issue:
I edited my hosts file to point to the apple validation server (and checked it allowed connections to gs.apple.com within my browser - successful).
Now as the handset is stuck in recovery mode (with the usb and apple logo) I tried to restore via regular Recovery mode - no sucess (error 1)
Entered the phone into DFU mode (which, in essence ALL of google preaches is the way to restore regardless of issue) same error occurred.
So i looked into 3rd party applications that could force it to restore or perhaps allow a functional end product.
Redsnow (latest edition only provides restore for up to iOS 6.1.somethingorother) that produced a dead end.
Pangu restore facility (latest edition for iOS 7/some 8 models) hanged at the same place as the apple loader.
I've tried flushing my DNS cache, and verified the Date/time on my computer and router is correct.
I refuse to accept the phone is nonfunctional but am rapidly running out of ideas as how to
    a) restore it to the iOS it initially had
    b) update it forcefully and have iOS 8
    c) install a custom rom in the hope some fuctionality exists enough to restore it again.
Please inform me of any suggestions you might have,
    regards Jack.
PS. Further information; This has been attempted on 2 seperate windows workstations both running windows 8.1 up to date.
The USB cable is an unofficial one but has caused no issues in the past on another iphone that ive restored.

Do you have the latest version of iTunes? Did you check for anti-virus software? One of the sections talks about interference from anti-virus software and firewalls. Also, you should not have to make any changes to your Host file unless your computer has been used to jailbreak a phone. I worry because you were using a number of software applications that are designed for jailbreaking devices. Excerpt from this support document. i have an apple 3g, tried to upgrade it to a 4.2 version, (previously it was 4.1). it wasnt successful, the computer asked us to restore it to the version which was last operational, and while restoring an error message appeared "the iphone could not be restored, an unknown error occured

"This error is caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple."

  • HT201413 HELP!  I was updating my iphone 4S to the new IOS6 via itunes when in the in the middle of the process of actually updating the iphone OS, it suddenly returned an error - "The iPhone could not be updated.  An unknown error occurred (1602)"  PLEAS

    PLEASE HELP!!!
I am using an HP DV9 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium and the latest iTunes software.
I regularly synch my iphone 4S with my laptop & Outlook.
I recently got the message that an IOS6 upgrade is available & so I scheduled to apply the update.
Everything was running normally when, after the download of the update, backup of my iphone, & applying the update began when
suddenly, iTunes returned with an ERROR MESSAGE as follows:
The iPhone "Ramon's iPhone" could not be updated.  An unknown error occurred (1602)
Now, my iphone is stuck with the iTunes icon and the USB image with an arrow pointing to the iTunes
    icon.
    WHAT DO I DO NOW?????!!!!!
    Help PLEASE!!!!

I actually tried the steps below due to the error -5000 I had encountered during the previous tries updating my IOS to 5.1.1
"Perform a normal sync and check your iTunes to make sure everything was synced in the right places like the tabs at the top of your "summary" when you plug in your iPhone to iTunes.  If everything is there and all the right boxes are checked for the stuff you want to save, then put your phone into recovery mode by keeping it plugged into your computer with iTunes still up and running. Next you want hold down the power button AND the home key button (the big button on the bottom part of your screen) AT THE SAME TIME. Your phone will go thru 4 different screens before you
Can let them go.  U will see your normal power off slider screen, then a black screen, then a black screen with an apple logo, then finally a screen with the iTunes logo and a picture of a sync cable below it. Once you see this screen LET BOTH BUTTONS GO but not before you see this screen.  Your computer will tell you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode, say ok.  Then hit the restore button on your iTunes summary screen, it should then ask you if you want to restore from a backup and update, say yes.... And at the end of its restoring and uploading you should have iOS 5!!"
Then it proceeded to a reactivation process... =(

Thanks for the update and clarification. In researching the issue it seems that the 2003 error code may have something to do with the USB connection. I would use this section of one of the above articles:

If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you might not be able to update or restore.
To narrow down the issue, you can try different equipment:
Use the USB cable that came with your device, or a different Apple USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port directly on your computer. Don't plug it into your keyboard.
    Try a different computer.
Solve other issues with the USB connection, then with your security software.
If you still see the error message, check for hardware issues by following the next section.
