Iphone crashed while Erasing contents and Settings

Hello, I tried to erase contents and settings from my iphone3. After the bar of progress was completed the apple with the spinning sun-thing appeared on the screen and has been there since yesterday no change. Can't turn it on or off and can't get the apple out of the screen. Any suggestion what I can do at this point to get my dear phone working again?
Thank you!
-YB

First, reset your phone:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you(hopefully) see the Apple logo, then release(ignore the slide to power off).
Then, see if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

Theres no issue with the mother board.  It's the activation lock look at the link I provided.
There is nothing you or Apple can do without the previous owners icloud information.
Like I already stated you have a paperweight.

  • HT201274 Erasing content and settings

I just upgraded my iPhone to iPhone 5 and let my relative use my former iPhone 4. I just want want to make sure if erasing contents and settings in the reset command is the right one if I intend to retain the apps and media content in the phone.

    1.  Your friend cannot use your apps as they will be tied to your AppleID.
    2.  Erasing contents and contents and settings wipes the whole phone.

  • Unable to activate after erasing content and settings

Get an Activation Error message after I erased content and settings on my iPhone 5

Connect your iphone to your computer and restore.

  • HT201274 I backed up my iPhone 4 last night, and started the erase contents and settings 4 hrs. ago. How long should it take to complete the erase? Will it automatically be restored?

I backed up my iPhone 4 last night on iCloud, and started the erase all content and settings a little over 4 hrs. ago. How long should I expect it to take to complete this process? Will it automatically do a restore on my phone? The reason I had to do this was because my iPhone 4 would not upgrade the latest IOS. Thanks for any information! Karnysue

Something has gone wrong. That should have happened almost instantly. Force the phone into recovery mode & restore it:

  • Erase Content and Settings Question

On an iPhone 4 running IOS 6 with over 13GB of data, when I do an "Erase All Content and Settings", it only takes a couple of minutes.  Is that right?  Shouldn't it take some time to zero out the drive?

Erasing everything is pretty fast but you can look if the your the capacity of your device is the same as the place left in settings>general>info

  • Erasing Content and Settings -- What happens to the saved apps in itunes?

    Hey all,
I've been thinking about avoiding to do a HUGE backup with my ipod touch 2nd gen 32GB to install iOS4 by erasing all the content and settings of my existing ipod. By HUGE, I mean, leaving your ipod to backup for 6 hours and it's less than 25% done. I tried a few times and gave up each time because it was taking ridiciously long. Anyways, not the issue I'm asking.
I was wondering if I erase all the content and settings from the ipod itself through Settings > General > Reset (or something like that), can I retrieve the applications saved on my computer?
Can i also retrieve my apps if I were to restore my ipod from itunes and set it as a new ipod?
I see my apps from itunes and I'm hoping they have the data saved from my last sync, but I'm worried if I start over with a 'new' ipod, they won't transfer over for whatever reason.
(...though judging by all the forum posts on how iOS4 is pure evil, waiting doesn't seem so bad..)
    Thanks in advance!

    Perfect!
    Thanks for the quick answer!
    Cheers.

  • Erasing content and settings

I just go my new iPad. I am giving my other one to a family member. Should I erase all content and settings on my older one, and will that effect my new iPad settings?

I would reset it. Then you don't have to worry about any crossover between apps an content.
erase all content and settings puts the iPad back to a 'out of box' state.

  • What will exactly happen if I restore or erase content and settings?

My iPad lis of 16 GB which now currently has 5 GB of "excess" .So if I want to erase all in the settings and content, after backing up from iCloud or iTunes would I be able to retain the app data and the content? Would it be safe! I've many photos.. 1.5 GBs of them and 1.3 GBs of app. That's all. 5GB " others ".

You will totally erase the device and return it to out of the box condition.
You will have to set it up all over again and you will have the opportunity to restore from a backup during the activation process.
If you backup and sync with iTunes, when you restore from the backup you will still have to sync with iTunes in order to restore your apps and other media. It should retain your app data and settings in the backup and that should be restored to the decie when you are all through with the process.
Make sure that you backup the and sync with iTunes first before you erase the device. You may want to transfer purchases as well.
    Transfer purchases.

Yes that is what I meant.... I just wanted to clean it up and start fresh... so if I do that my number will still be assigned... I will just have to add back on what I want from itunes?

    Hi DaVince Vince,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your iPhone. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear what issues you were having that led up to the attempted Erase All, and/or exactly what behavior you are seeing now (restarting, not responding at all, etc). If you are seeing an Apple Logo screen and your iPhone does not appear to be starting correctly, you may find the following articles helpful:
If your iOS device restarts, displays the Apple logo, or powers off while you're using it - Apple Support
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
    Regards,

I have been attempting to wipe/erase the iphone 4S I recently purchased...for the past 20 hours....I went to Reset in Settings and clicked on "Erase All Content and Settings"....At that point the phone the screen went dark except for a white circular symbol revolving - indicating something should be happening....
The instructions indicated that, depending on what needed to be erased, the process could take several hours. Even though the device had a Tom Tom application with all the maps of Europe etc (about 2GB) and there were several other apps on the device, it does not seem to me normal that the device would be still clearing into the next day - today!
    Can you please help!?

Something has gone wrong. Turn your phone off, then force it into recovery mode & restore it:
Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until your phone turns off, then release.

If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

I gave my ipad 2 to my brother last month. After that he erased all content and settings, sign in with his apple id. The next day until now, I found out that I can not udpate my apps both on my iPhone and iPad Air. I had create new apple id, change my password, delete the icloud acc. But still I can not update my apps. I have many of red notifications on iPhone and iPad Air. What should I do? Thank you in advance.

    1. It is never a good idea to include personal info like your email address or Apple ID in a post on an open forum.
    2. The email you received DOES NOT say your Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPad. The email informs you that your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad. Fortunately the iPad is yours. The message confirms that. If your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad that was not yours your would then know to change your password. Since the iPad is yours you do not need to change your password.
    Is your iPad working?
