Iphone deleted all my contacts and when i plugged it in automatic backup ran and wiped all contacts

Hi All,
Yesterday I noticed that all my contacts were deleted from my iphone 3. I hadn't plugged it in to a computer, it had been on wi-fi earlier but I hadn't accessed itunes or anything. Everything else (text messages, music, apps) was fine. When I arrived home and plugged it into my computer to access the back-up, automatic back-up ran and backed-up my contact-less iphone. I tried restoring from back-up - no dice.
How can I access older back-ups with my contacts and restore them to my phone? Why were my contacts erased and how can I stop it from happening again?
Thanks for your help!

Several of my friends also had this problem recently. Wondering if you use LINE or FB often on your phone?

  • MY IPHONE DELETED ALL MY CONTACTS - AT THE STROKE OF NEW YEAR

    2012, end of the world?
Last night, New Year's eve, at midnight, my iPhone deleted ALL of my contacts. That was nearly 5000 contacts! I don't use MobileMe as far as I'm aware, and I don't want to sync to my computer lest it deletes all contacts from there too. How do I restore my contacts??!!

It will COMPLETELY restore everything to how it was the instant you backed up. However, you can back up your current state on your iPhone, restore from the previous backup, get the contacts, sync with iCloud, then restore from the latest backup to have your contacts AND diary entries.
This post shows that you are using iOS 4.3.3. To use iCloud requires that you upgrade to iOS 5.0.

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

  • My iphone text tone is not working when I plug in the earphone.

    Hi,
My iphone text tone is not working when I plug in the earphone.
My earphone is always plug into the iphone as I use it to answer calls. I notice that iphone does not alert me (sound) when there is a new messages. Instead the text sound is transfer to the earphone speaker.
As the earphone is plug into the iphone and I am not putting it on always, I need it to still hear the text tone whenever I received new messages.
Anyone pls help.. the problem still there even I updated..

I don't put the iphone in my front pocket. I put in my bag pack so vibration is not useful to me. Pls help
The iPhone is working exactly as it is designed.
    Your options are:
    1) Unplug the headset.
    2) Leave the headset plugged in and the earpiece in your ear at all times.
    3) Turn on vibrate and put the phone in your pocket.
    4) Leave feedback for Apple and hope they deem it worthy of their time to fix.

Check your System Profiler to see if your computer is recognizing them. You may need to reset the computers SMC.

  • Iphone deleted all phone numbers when synced with Exchange, Please Help!!

We recently received new Iphones for the Administrative staff and thought that like other Smartphones we've used in the past that syncing with Exchange would be a breeze. After doing a bit of research everything pointed towards it being a very simple process, this is the process I followed:
Open up Itunes with Iphone connected
Click your iPhone in the "Devices" section on the left
    Click the "Info" tab
In the Contacts section, check "Sync contacts with" and select "Outlook"
    Click "All Contacts"
Click the "Sync" button in iTunes lower-right corner
Click "Merge", so that your contacts on your iPhone are preserved
This seemed to work but there is one major problem, all of the contacts on the Iphone and the ones imported into Outlook no longer have any phone numbers associated to them. The contacts were all synced into Outlook/Exchange no problem with their respective emails but with no phone numbers at all. Unfortunately the computer which had the backup of this Iphone was recently decommissioned so I have no backup of the phone in its previous state.
Is there any way to recover the old phone numbers/contacts on the phone without having a backup of it in its previous state? I have tried the "Import Sim Contacts" button in the settings on the phone but it doesn't seem to actually do anything. There are over 100 contacts on this particular phone, some of which the phone numbers will be very difficult to retrieve again.
I have to say that I'm not very impressed that the most popular smartphone out there can't even sync with the largest email platform in the enterprise world properly. If anybody can help me retrieve those numbers some how I would be extremely appreciative.

Does the Iphone actually support 2-way sync with Outlook properly or will it erase all of the numbers on the phone every time?
If you are syncing directly with Outlook, there are options in iTunes to determine which set of contacts takes priority when duplicates are found.  Personally I do not use this.  I have my device set up to sync directly with the exchange server so all changes are made directly on the server.
Personally I would recommend against using Outlook as the intermediary.  You will get much more consistent and reliable results if the iPhone syncs directly with the exchange server and no worries if the end user has not synced the device in days/weeks/months.

  • ATT or iPhone deleted all Visual Voice messages!? Anyone else??

Has this happened to anyone yet??
I had 7 saved voicemail messages and received 2 new ones the other night. I had company over, so I waited until they left to check them. I noticed the Red Circle with the #2 was gone, but didn't think anything of it. When I went to my voicemail screen it prompted me to setup my voicemail!? I couldn't retrieve any messages until I did this (Yes, I already set this up 5 days earlier).
After redoing my voicemail greeting, non of my messages were there, neither the 7 saved nor the 2 new ones. I am not sure if this is a software glitch (Apple issue) or voicemail service (ATT issue).
I ran a couple tests to see what happens with voicemail when I want to delete. So, I used my other phone to add 3 new messages to my iPhone. After checking my messages with the new Visual Voicemail, I accessed my messages the old fashioned way (If you go to Keypad and press and hold the '1' key, you can go to the old voicemail system). All 3 messages were there.
I saved 2 of the messages and deleted 1. After returning to my iPhone Visual Voicemail the deleted voicemail was gone and the other 2 remained.
In the Visual Voicemail I deleted 1 of the remaining 2. The iPhone puts this deleted message into a deleted folder where it can be recovered. Before I cleared the deleted folder, I went back to the old voicemail and it was still there. So I went back to the iPhone deleted folder and pressed clear all. After this, the message was cleared from the old message system.
So either ATT wiped out all my messages as well as my Outgoing message or there might be a glitch in the Apple software that deleted everything on the iPhone, which in turn would delete everything from the old voicemail system.
I know this is long, and thankfully I didn't have anything that was critically important in the deleted messages, but if this happens to anyone else, it is best to report to Apple and ATT so this doesn't become a problem.
I sent an email to Apple with the suggestion of a box for saving messages to a folder that is separate from the voicemail service and can't be accidently deleted by ATT or the Apple Visual Voicemail.

PS I had a fully charged iPhone when this happened and I have never gone below %15 remaining charge. Also, I have never had to do a hard reset of the iPhone.

Page 30 of iPhone User Guide:
"Once you listen to a message, it is saved for 30
days from the time you listened to it."
    That is a good point.
However, if you are trying to let us know that this is why we lost our messages, you have forgotten that the iPhone has only been available for 18 days. We are still 12 days short of the auto 30 day deletion.
Others, including myself, have lost our entire voicemail account and have had to redo our message greeting.
The point is that there is a flaw and I don't want to lose anymore messages. I don't always have the time to input #'s, addresses, etc., so I save the message for later. If messages are going to be deleted without my doing, then I cannot trust ATT or Apple with this.
Apple at least has told me to alert them if this happens again. ATT denies anything on their end.

  • Iphone deleted all text messages on restart

    Hi all,
Yesterday my phone was hanging so I gave it a restart. Once it came back up it had deleted all of my messages. Is there any way to get these back without "restore"? I had an issue before where it would not back up, which was solved by removing and reinstalling iTunes. However, the backup was very old.
I have been told that the iphone puts all old messages in a database, even when they have been deleted. I backed up straight away.
Please please can someone help me restore the text messages, or at the very least, tell me how I can go about viewing them on my computer (csv for example).
Beer to who ever solves this!
    Thanks.

Your MacBook shoul NOT be too old to run Leopard. (10.5) Snow Leopard, maybe, but not Leopard.
When you go to the Genius Bar, MAKE SURE the genius knows you are NOT up to date with your  OS. If they try to update your phone, you could find yourself unable to sync at all...
That said, if you're nice to them, they might just give you a copy of Leopard so you can get current with iTunes and iOS. It's been known to happen.

  • Went to update my iphone. Restored it but now when i plug it into my pc to itunes the only option it gives is to restore my phone. It doesnt give an option to sync so dont know if i've lost all my app

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

  • My iPhone does not Sync or Charge when I plug it into my Mac

Until today it has been fine but when I connect my iPhone to my Mac nothing happens. No Sync, no opening of iTunes and no Charging. Has anyone had this happen to them and is there a solution.

    UPDATE:
Okay, I finally got a solution that worked. I downloaded the latest version of AppleJack (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667), a free utility that does a deep clean on your Mac, repairing preferences and the like, better than any other utility I've used.
You must use it in Single User UNIX mode, but this is no reason to fear it. Just hold down Command+S after the gong, when you reboot your computer. When you start seeing white text on a black background, you can let go. When the text stops scrolling, type this command at the prompt:
    applejack auto restart
    and hit the return key.
This tells AppleJack to run all it's routines automatically, and then reboot your Mac in OS X. It can take a little while to do it's repairs if you have a big drive. It took about 15 min. on my 500GB drive.
When it completed its tasks and rebooted, I plugged the iPhone into it's doc and it now works like a charm, syncing as we speak, and charging!
