Iphone deletes sent messages on my mac

Hi guys - I have searched on this subject but to no avail.
When I sync my iPhone with my mac, it deletes all my messages from my Sent Folder on both my Mac and .mac and only keeps the ones on my iPhone (approx 34 messages)
This means if I want to search for an old email that I have sent from my Mac - I cannot find it which could be disastrous!
Is there anyway that I can set it so it doesn't delete messages from my mac or do I just have to turn off syncing mail?

I am sure that your iPhone has absolutely nothing to do with this. Your iPhone and iTunes does not sync messages in Mail. All that is sync'd is simply the account information (name, type, password).
What is more likely happening, is that you have set Mail to not retain sent messages locally, and the server side with sent messages to be auto deleted once sent, or upon quitting Mail. Or you have set up IMAP like settings, in that a deletion on one client (either Mail or iPhone) deletes the message from the server
You only need to sync your Mail accounts one time, then you can turn it off. You would turn it back on, when you modify account settings in Mail, add a new account that you also want on your phone, and you simply don't want to double enter that information again on the iPhone.

And what email provider are you using?

  • Does "delete sent messages" in Mail refer to deleting on the server only?

I want to delete my sent messages from the server but not from the "sent" mailbox in Mail on my HD.  I am afraid to check the "delete sent messages" box in the mailbox behavior preferences because it does not specify whether they would be deleted just on the server, just on my HD, or on both.  Can somebody please clarify this for me?
    Thank you.

i don't know why you would want to do that, but people have their reasons. I do not believe you can delete an Email on one device and not let it syncronize. You know there are ways to hide an Email on your device, or just mark it as read, but it's not like Emails take up your hard storage or anything.

  • Multiple Sent Messages for my .Mac account

For some reason I have two sent message mailboxes for my .Mac account. One is under the Sent grouping, i.e.:
    Sent ->
    -- Account 1
    -- .Mac
    -- Account 3
And another one listed with my .Mac folders. Both have the same contents. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the second?
    Cheers!

    Hi MrWynnm, you're welcome.
I don't see anything strange there. If Store sent messages on the server is OFF, the mailbox you see within the standard Sent group should correspond to the local ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Sent Messages ([email protected]).mbox folder, whereas the folder you see within the .Mac account group should correspond to a (totally unrelated) mailbox stored on the server and cached locally in ~/Library/Mail/Mac-username/Sent Messages.imapmbox.
That explains why you see two mailboxes in Mail, BUT it doesn't explain why they both show the same contents. Try this:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Open Mail, delete the mailbox that appears under the .Mac account group... and let me know what happens...

  • How can I disable iMessage notifications on iPhone while using Messages beta on Mac?

Hi all! I'm very excited about the new Messages app on my Mac, which allows iMessage between Macs and i devices! Just downloaded it right now and it's excellent! However, I notice a possible flaw in which whenever I receive a message from someone, it will notify me on both my Mac AND my iPhone! As you might imagine, it's pretty annoying given iMessages are flying through on my Mac. I was wondering if anyone knows how to stop iPhone notifications when messaging on Mac. I hope this feature will be added in ASAP from Apple if it doesn't exist yet! Thanks in advance!

You would have to turn it off on the phone. Read receipts as referenced above is not related to your question at all.
I don't find it to be too irritating, but I don't message frequenly enough for it to get all that annoying.

  • Cannot delete sent messages

push delete button in sent messages but the messages will not delete

Hi Khawari, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Have you tried deleting them through your WebMail interface?
Is this a POP or IMAP account?
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Replacing Deleted 'Sent' Messages

I managed to delete all of my sent files. I have the Volume duped on another drive. I copied the dupe Sent File folder into the Sent folder of the afflicted Mail App but I can't get Mail to recognize the sent messages I replaced, I have restarted both the app and my Intel iMac w/ Leopard. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I dare not ask how you managed to delete all your Sent messages; the answer may be too painful to bear. In any case, try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file(s).
    3. Restart Mail, wait for it to import your existing messages, then see if the problem is resolved.

  • Is there a way to get my deleted sent messages bac...

I have deleted my sent txt messages and i need to get them back. does anyone know if it is possible to do this??

If you've previously 'syncd' messages with Ovi suite they may be in there. But any deleted from the phone after the last sync won't be of course.
You can check by just opening Ovi suite - don't attach the phone, in case you have auto-sync on!

  • I just deleted sent messages from mail, emptied the trash and now my iCloud storage is almost full. Is the mail client holding onto cached messages?

I was trying to open up some icloud storage by deleting a large chunk of emails and attachments from my sent folder. Those migrated tot he trash and I emptied the trash. Now I have a message telling my my iCloud storage is almost full. Is the mail holding on to cached emails and attachments or something? They don't show up in sent or trash. However if I do a search for the year 2012 (the year of emails I deleted) in the sent I can pull up this olds emails.

    Hi there Chris,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you saw an iCloud storage alert and tried to free up some space but you're still running into the issue. Take a look at the article linked below, it provides a lot of great information about iCloud storage and should help you free up iCloud storage space.

  • IPhone Deletes eMail message when moving to Draft Folder

    Hi, here's a nice bug.
I repled to a message, but it failed to send it so it wnet into the Outbox automatically. I came back later and decided to move it to the draft folder. "Poof", the message is instead deleted. Nice feature, Apple.
Anyone know where to submit bugs - is that the same place you submit suggestions 4 improvement?

I called apple about this bug a few weeks ago. It is an error with any POP email accounts. You cannot move emails between folders, they dissapear. They are working on the problem they told me.

  • HT3529 Is there any way to sync iMessages from an iPhone into the Messages on a Mac Book Pro?

Basically, for me to upgrade to an iPhone 5s, I'll have to trade in my iPhone 4s. The thing is, I'm pretty sentimental when it comes to certain text messages and I would really like to be able to save them all somewhere, somehow. Everything else is backed up to my laptop, so I'm not concerned about anything else on the phone; it's just not wanting to part with the text messages... It would be nice if there is a way to sync the rest of one's messages into the Messages app on the MacBook Pro. Is that possible?

If the photos were on the iphone when the last sync was performed, then you should be able to restore from backup.

  • How can I set up email so that if I delete a message on the iPhone it deletes it on my mac

How can I set up my email so that if I delete a message on my Mac it will also be deleted on my iPhone 6 and iPad

    Why would you want that?
Doing so would defeat the purpose of syncing the email account.
Simply move the message to a folder or leave it in the inbox.

  • Deleted Mail Messages reappearing in InBox

iCloud Mail is acting like a POP account.
If I delete a message on my Mac, it doesn't get deleted from the iPhone's InBox.
Plus, deleted messages eventually reappear on the Mac as if I never deleted them.
Even before iCloud, using MobileMe, deleting a message from either my Mac or my iPhone would not delete the message from the other device.

    double negative.

    Hello Joe.
What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
Certain messages keep re-appearing in my inBox, even when I delete them.
You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time), but you should remove them from the server first if they’re still there.
Mail is only receiving some of the email messages sent to me.
Do you have any custom rules? It looks like Mail is downloading all the messages, but your rules are processing them in an unexpected way...
Open the Account Info window by choosing Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailbox list in the main Mail window. Does Mail display there the messages that it doesn’t download? Do they appear as already downloaded or as not downloaded yet (dot column)?

  • Sent messages not saved in sent mailbox

Lately some iCloud sent messages are not saved in the sent mailbox.  this is an intermitant problem.  sometimes msgs go to the outbox even though mail is on line; when they are eventually sent sometimes they do not make it to the sent mailbox.  I call the recipient and the msg has actually been received.  The lost messages do not appear in iCloud.  Rebuild does not help.  any suggestions?

Tks for your answer. I have a .Mac account and in already try in Preferences-Accounts- and I only see three tabs: " Account Information ", " Mailboxes Behaivor " and " Advanced ". I don´t see the " Special Mailboxes " tab that you mention and I have also read about it. In Mailboxes Behaivor I can choose the option " Store sent messages on the server " and the Delete sent messages option is in " Never". If I choose not to Store sent messages on the server, nothing seems to happen. I hope you can help me with this information and I want to thank you again
