IPhone deleting emails automatically

Hi there, apologies if this has been posted before but I have a slightly annoying problem with my 8gb iPhone. I can retrieve my emails fine using my POP account, though yesterday when I went to look at my emails, most of them had mysteriously vanished from my inbox. I have checked my purge settings which is at 200 recent messages so I am a bit lost really, if anyone can shed any light that woudl be brilliant thanks!

  • Deleting emails automatically when using a POP email

    Hi
Is there a way of deleting any emails automatically from my POP email when i've deleted them in mail on my iphone 4?
I have my email set up correctly with push switch to on and everything else seems to sync up fine, but when i log into my webmail account or Outlook on my laptop the emails that i've deleted on my iphone are still listed in the inbox as unread.
    Any ideas anyone?
    G

There are settings in your mail configuration to delete when ... One option is to say delete when removed from Inbox.
Thus when you delete it, then the NEXT check of mail it will let the server know to delete them.
Have to remember, POP was not designed for todays world of mobile devices and checking in multiple places. It was a basic protocol for people to check from one place.
Consider using IMAP if your service allows it.

  • Does the iphone remove emails automatically??

I've been looking at the iphone5 or 4s, but someone told me something alarming, and I wanted to check this officially first please.
I use my phone for business, so when I am on the move, I can check back at emails.  ie.  2-3 months ago, or evening just a month ago at times.
On my current non-Apple handset I can see emails as far back as I choose, because I have not deleted them.  This has only baout 300mb or storage but has a MicroSD 16gb card that does not use storage for emails.
Is it true that iPhone removes emails automitically, and if so how far back?  And is there a way to switch this function off please?
    Many thanks.

As with any other email client, there is a setting with a POP account for removing messages from the server after being downloaded. What the iPhone's Mail app doesn't include is a right away after being downloaded option.
All server stored mailboxes with an Exchange or IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server with each each email client used to access the account. There is no setting to automatically delete messages for an Exchange or IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail app except for the account's Trash mailbox which is the same with an email client on your computer.

  • Iphone deletes email by itself

I have an iphone 3G and access my imap email account. All has been fine until this morning when all of a sudden the iphone deleted all emails that have been read on either the phone or the mac. They remain however on the mac in the email account inbox shown as being read.
Cannot find any setting anywhere on the (phone) email account settings relating to this so would appreciate any ideas on what is going on and how to solve (revert) it.

Thanks KiltedTim but no, they are fresh messages. Just received and read then, wham, gone and by gone i mean, gone, no trace of them. Not in trash or deleted

  • IPhone deleting emails from folders

I've been having a problem with an iPhone 3GS deleting emails from folders.  This has only been happening for about 3 or 4 weeks but is a very critical issue.  I've lost several critical emails that are not recoverable!  It makes using the iPhone to view saved messages useless!  Maybe time for a droid?
The issue may have started when I upgraded to version 5.0.1  When you select a folder your see the email you want and then it just disappears.  It is deleted and not able to find it anywhere.  I'm using AT&T email which is Yahoo.  I log on to Yahoo email and the email has also been completely deleted.  I have been using the 3GS with Yahoo mail for over two years without any issue.  Something in IOS has changed that has added the new unwanted feature.  Apple needs to get it resolved!  Does anyone know when a fix is coming?

I've yet to hear of that issue specifically previous to this post. You might test it with another account just so you're not puting your real account in danger. It definiatly won't hurt to update. I would also turn on the "ask before deleting" option in the settings to see if that helps any.
    Keep us updated.

  • IPhone is deleting emails automatically

My iPhone is deleting my emails after a certain period of time. I move emails to a folder I have named 'To Keep' for a reason but they are still being deleted. They are on my email account on the computer but don't stay on my phone. Please help.

Go to Settings>Mail, Contact, Calendars. Select the account. Look at "Mail Days to Sync". What does it say?
Messages will be deleted from the phone, but left on the server after the specified time period to conserve space. You can set it to "No Limit" if you want.

  • IPhone deletes Emails from my mail server.

I have my Iphone 5 set to never remove emails from the server but my Iphone will pick up the email and delete them from the server. My sister is having the same problem. Any ideas?

Are you using a POP3 server? The server may not be honoring the do not delete request. POP3 is antiquated and should be avoided if at all possible.
IMAP and Exchange allow full synchronization between the server and all clients. If you delete a message using an IMAP client, it will be deleted from the server.

  • IPhone Deletes eMail message when moving to Draft Folder

    Hi, here's a nice bug.
I repled to a message, but it failed to send it so it wnet into the Outbox automatically. I came back later and decided to move it to the draft folder. "Poof", the message is instead deleted. Nice feature, Apple.
Anyone know where to submit bugs - is that the same place you submit suggestions 4 improvement?

I called apple about this bug a few weeks ago. It is an error with any POP email accounts. You cannot move emails between folders, they dissapear. They are working on the problem they told me.

  • IPhone deleting emails

When I delete an email on my iPhone 4, the email is also deleted from my server home page. When my wife checks her emails on her phone, as it updates, the message I deleted off my phone disappears off of hers.
Any way to just have the message deleted on my phone and not the account?
    Thx in advance.

When you use IMAP it's a normal behavior. You can configure the account as POP to download the Mail to your iPhone, and tell Mail not to delete the Mails from the server.

  • Yahoo Mail in Iphone sending emails automatically

Attached is the screen shot of my freinds email.
I am not sure what is going on. I changed a password a week ago in yahoo to stop this but seems like this is happening again. Is there any way I can stop this.

You may need to change your password again.

  • Deleted emails still on my server - where do they go?

Sorry if this is an old topic; I read a buttload of threads about deleting and still have barely scratched the surface but am too impatient to read any more, and still haven't found my exact issue.
When I manually delete an email (which moves it to my trash) and then I either manually delete it from the trash or select "Erase Deleted Messages" from the Mailbox menu, the email appears to be totally gone from Mail but it is still on my ISP's mail server. I know this because my account is merged with a web-based email account from the same company, and they tell me they use the same server and mailbox for both accounts. When I do the deletes described above in Mail and then log onto the web-based account that uses the same server, the email is still there. So how can the email be totally deleted from Mail and yet still be on the server? Is it hiding in the Library somewhere? Will it eventually be removed from the server at the time specified in my prefs' "mailbox behaviors" under "erase deleted messages when"? If I didn't happen to have this back door for noticing that emails are still on the server, how would I know if deleted messages were really removed from the server? And if it is eventually removed from the server, will it still be hiding somewhere on my hard disk?
In case it matters: I have not created any mailboxes of my own in Mail. As far as I can tell I do have anything going on "on my mac", if I understand that term correctly as it is used in Mail.
BTW if I delete emails automatically by checking the advanced prefs checkbox for "remove copy from server after receiving a message", that does remove them from the server, unlike the manual delete procedures I described above.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Mail 2.0,7
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I see the "Remove now" button next to that checkbox--exactly
what messages does that button remove? The current message?
All messages? Just the ones that don't have a blue dot next to them?
The Remove Now button removes ALL messages available at the incoming mail server for the account.
To remove an individual message from the server, select the button at the bottom of the mailboxes drawer which has a gear icon.
At the bottom of the menu window that appear, select Get Info.
Select the POP via the Account selection - the account will be already selected if you are accessing a single account with the Mail.app.
Under the Messages On Server tab at Show Messages, All messages on POP server should be selected.
The window below will reveal all messages currently available on the server. You can select an individual message or multiple messages and then the Remove From Server button.

    Vatlily,
    Try this:
    1. Select Mail>File>New Message.
    2. Select Mail>Window>Address Panel.
    3. Use (command+click) on the desired addressees in the Address Panel to create the list.
    4. Click "To:" on the top left of the Address Panel.
The group that you selected will be added to the "To" field in your New Message.

  • How can I delete a "e-mail" without the next email automatically opening?

I know with my iPhone 5 I can swipe to the left and delete a email in my inbox without the next unread email opening automatically. But with my iPad doing the same task I just mentioned doesn't work. It seems to still open up the next unread email if I delete or even if I delete it the edit way. In fact it seems like if I do it the edit way once I check off the circle to select what I want to delete it still previews or opens the message. Is their a way around it? I like to be able to just look at my 3 lines of text of the email and decide if I want to delete it without it opening and I like to be able to open a message that I want to open, but I don't want to have it open up the next email automatically because I may not want that next email to open.

Yeah!!  Edit to delete opens the email you want to delete before you can delete it!!  I don't want to open those creepy spam phishing emails!!  So now I just let them pile up and go onto my PC to delete them, where I have the option of not opening them first.  I came on here looking for an answer but I'm just finding snarky retorts with no answers!  :(

If you delete email on your desktop using iCloud, they will be automatically deleted on the iPhone and iPad.
